Previous Android Versions - Xperia Z General

Hi folks
I have an Xperia Z2 and I am considering flashing it with a previous version of Android. At present it is running Lollipop. The original version for the Z2 was Kit-Kat afaik.
Is it safe to flash another version like Ice-Cream Sandwich ?

Well if it would be Xperia Z not xperia Z2 it would be safe :]
But you know, its Xperia Z forum, we had older version of Android, dunno if Z2 have ICS system that you can flash :]

Thank you Akinaro. :good:

You answered your own question already. Z2 was first released with KitKat 4.4.2 (I looked it up) so you can't downgrade to firmware that doesn't exist. Unless some crazy developer compiled custom old version of AOSP, but I highly doubt it!

[OFFICIAL] Ice Cream Sandwich beta ROM for unlocked 2011 Xperia smartphones

Official thread by Kalle: [ROM] Official Sony Xperia ICS Beta ROM for arc S, ray, neo V
As a follow-up to the previous alpha, Sony has released the official beta of the upcoming ICS update for 2011 Xperia models. Unfortunately, this beta is currently only available for Xperia arc S, Xperia neo V and Xperia ray and they must be already running the latest firmware (4.0.2.A.0.42).
What's new?
Updated UI – We hope you will be happy to see that we have added a number of UI elements from ICS, as well as some new UI features already introduced in the Xperia™ S we announced in January.
Lockscreen and Face Unlock – We have added a shortcut to the camera directly from the lockscreen. Also, when you’re listening to music you can control the music player without unlocking the phone by using the music control icons on the lockscreen. In the coming final ICS upgrade, we will also include the face unlock app from Google for all phones that has a front-facing camera. The Face Unlock feature uses the front-facing camera in combination with advanced object recognition algorithms to provide a new way to unlock the phone. However, since Face Unlock is a Google Mobile Services (GMS) app, it is not included in this ICS beta ROM.
Connectivity turned on – Since we published the ICS alpha ROM, the GSM modem and FM radio have passed the certification and type approval, and they are therefore turned on in this ICS beta release.
Updated email client – The UI has been updated, and simplified email management has been added.
Quick dial – We have added a quick and easy way for you to make phone calls. See how it works in the ICS beta ROM demo video.
Please note that the Google Mobile Services (GMS) apps (for example Gmail, Google Maps and Face Unlock), Bluetooth™ and Wi-Fi™ are not included in the beta release due to that they are still waiting for the certification and type approval to be finalised.
Let's hope someone who is skilled out there to make it available for arc users. Also, I thought we were going to get the UXP NXT interface, but it seems like we don't.
What do you guys think?
Is this ROM maybe http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJbDl8aikUk&feature=player_embedded
EDIT:Sorry, I didn't see this video in the link below
Woohoo ..! Can't wait to test
I wish i had the technical knowhow to port it to Arc =/
Making now
don't forget you can talk to us any time on gtalk and as always xbox live
Wow, we're getting almost all of the Xperia S features with the ICS update too!
Assuming it will work on stock kernel - can it be installed and a CWM backup made???
I have already restored my ARC S backup to an ARC without any issue (BOTH Locked bootloaders)
Just a thought
----Edit----
Just to be clear - Could someone with an UNlocked bootloader install the rom and then make a CWM backup of which can be restored in another phone (Locked bootloader)?
I am guessing the UNlocked bootloader is needed to get the rom installed because its not signed.
Can we flash this on original Xperia Arc? I am asking this because I know that roms for Arc are compatible with Arc S. I also know that Arc has different partition table, but maybe since I have a modded rom it has changed.
Someone uses it on an Arc, so yes

Curious... GSM is working, but does that only mean 2G networks?
EDIT: Never mind, didn't check the page 2 posts -_-;

Marshmallow test build

Sony has started rolling out Android 6.0 Marshmallow test build (almost a clean AOSP build) for the Xperia Z3 and the Z5 series. The rollout is limited for users who have participated in the Concept for Android program and is only available to select European countries.
See also the thread in de Z3 forum post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63381257&postcount=98
I've tried to flash the image to my Phone with the concept installer but it keeps rejecting it with the message "No device ID". I've also tried to flash the default image (5.1.1.) and this is working fine. So I think the program is checking your Device ID based on country...
Is it possible to extract the Android 6.0 Marshmallow from the Concept Installer and flash it with Xperifirm?
I dont find any information this 6.0 should work with z5 series
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
They only rolled out Android Concept for the Z3 series..
So I'm pretty sure the Z5 series won't just work with the installer
Which is too bad, and I've been tweeting Sony about supporting the Z5 Compact specifically! I really want to have a cleaner version of Android, and even better, 6.0!
I know reading txt might be hard for some because this is just for the z3 line and not the z5 line so before you start a topic i would recomment that you do some research before opening a topic.
Installing it on my Z5c now.. It works for me. (UK)

Ah, failed for me as well, took ages.
The Concept Installer shows a test build available, but is it the Marshmellow update? And yes, I did my research, but there's no official document the concept software doesn't work on the Z5 compact.
This is 5.1.1. dude.
Maybe it coming , but just not yet

with the same argumentation there is also no official document which says the concept doesn't work with iphone. [emoji19]
the concept test is official for z3 and z3 compact. why are you thinking it could work with any other smartphone?

Brilliant and so true haha
The Z5 is correctly detected by the applicication and also flashing the original software is working perfectly (tested) So for me there is no argumentation that the software shouldn't work with a (whitelisted) Z5 Compact.
Yes, only argumentation is that sony does not tell anywhere that it should work. My guess is that if it should work they would mention it.

Android 7.1.1 on Xperia Z

Just a few impressions of android 7.1.1 vs stock 5.1.1.
Its easy to find the instructions of how to install TWRP, root and rom so i will not repeat it.
I have to admit that i prefer Sony skin on my standard Xperia Z2 using latest 23.5.A.1.291, otherwise i am impressed with 7.1.1.
Very fluid action, I have installed Xperia keyboard just because I prefer it.
The phone will have to remain rooted which can cause issues so beware.
Had to downgrade from 10.7.A.228 to 222 to follow procedure but took less than 30 minutes once the downloads completed.
bootloader locked or unlocked?
Unlocked.

Z2a users needed for test

Hi Z2a users I see that Sony never released 23.5.A.1.291 for Z2a, but on the source of this compilation is possible to build the kernel for Z2a, so I think is possible for Z2a users install Existenz 5.6.5 with some modifications, so if you have a Z2a and you are interested, write on this thread
If somebody wants, I can share the info
I have a Xperia Z2a D6563 and I am currently using EliteKernel with the eXistenZ, when you install the ROM, and flash the Kernel, the camera breaks, but I created some kind of fix using the Cyberian Z2 camera mod (I used this because I am not a developer but I barely know some stuff) and at this moment I have everything working on the Z2a except the front camera, I didn't know how to fix that but if somebody wants to know how I installed and set all, you can ask for it and I will create a post, it really worths it.
Hey z2a user here how can i help?

ok thank you, first I need that you have UB (unlocked bootloader), because I will give you a custom kernel, the reason, Sony released source for 23.5.A.1.291 for Z2a but never released 23.5.A.1.291 for Z2a so as Z2 and Z2a are really similar in theory we can put the Z2 firmware on Z2a just changing the kernel, so if we archieve this the Z2a users could use Existenz 5.6.5. Please contact me on telegram @ShadowElite22

Well I have a problem, I lost all of my work (kernel and other stuff) because my PC first have a Windows 10 partition and the aubuntu partition, the windows 10 one was damaged and I must format my pc for fix it, I made a backup with Clonezilla of the Ubuntu partition (the one that have all of my work) but the backup wasn't done correctly, and I can't restore it (it seems that it have missing files) so I lost all of my works and I will to start again, the only good thing is that my kernel work is on github so the kernel isn't lost, but all of my other projects are lost, I will to start again this projects soon (first I need to pass some final exams of this semester of university) thanks for your wait I know that is a long wait.

SP kitkat xperia firmware

Hi, there are still people who are interested in KK xperia firmware for SP? A few months ago, I started developing firmware with all the chips of stock xperia 4.4, baced on last cm11 for LB by bagyusz, now it is not worse than xperia ovelay, there are even stamina and color themes in it, at the same time, most cyanogenmod chips are saved. I want to know your opinion, is it worth whether to continue updating it or the xperia KK is no longer interesting to anyone?
Firmware is here
now stock music beat also works
