I am not sure why no one is talking about it. but the update that was being tested is now being released to everyone. I think I have better wifi and blue tooth then before then update.

Awesome, thanks. Once someone captures the OTA, or once Verizon releases the full firmware, I'll create new versions of my custom system.imgs based on it. Can you confirm that the stagefright vulnerabilities have been patched using this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zimperium.stagefrightdetector?
keeps failing to update. 3rd try.
This was not stagefright. I am not patched per this app.

if theres anything i can do to help i have the update downloaded atm and waiting on my turbo, West coast (Washington) 23.21.44

So should we upgrade? I'm not rooted, but I would like to. Also I'm on 5.1

If you really want to root, I'd wait. Potentially there is a bootloader unlock coming which may provide it for 5.1. If you upgrade, who knows what happens.
No one knows when though. UItimately, if root is important to you, not updating is always the best decision.
My WiFi speed is the same it has always been and it's still vulnerable to stagefright.
Ok it doesn't seem like a very important update so I'll just hold off. Are you referring to the rootnija's work on unlocking it?
When you put your phone on a wireless charger, a full-screen dialog no longer pops up to tell you that it's wireless charging (at least, while playing a video in the YouTube app).
It is stagefright patch at 30 mb but it still left 1 vulnerability. I hate vzw. I use zimperium detector

It could be that for some reason you never got the OTA that came out immediately after the initial lollipop release. But yeah, 23.11.39 is old news. 23.21.44 appears to be the number for the most recent update.
it shows as it's applied?

the update says .44 but the cache file is 39, and is also 30 mb approx... am i missing something? also if applied, can't i mofo it?

I'm running a custom rom, SlideMeRoot, with the first Mytouch Slide update applied.
Or SlideMeRoot is a version of the stock rom?
Then:
Firmware: 2.1-update1
Software number: 1.27.531.1

They are trying to give you the OTA. Don't take it if you like your root.

Slidemeroot uses is older than ota, they are sending you the rom that cr modded(1.3.x). Upgrade to cr for new radio and it will go away.
Edit: read rest of your post,it may be a small hotfix, probably not 2.2 .Maybe 2.1.1

I got my phone today, had to change delivery date because I wasn't home on the 12th. There was a system update that improves call quality or something. So, big question. I haven't been able to receive the update. Tried searching both when my bootloader was locked running Amazon bloat OS, and unlocked running almost-stock OS.
I imagine it's going to trickle out over time. Previous OTA's have done that. Also, I went ahead and signed up for Motorola's feedback program. I was a soak on tester on two previous phones and hopefully I'll get chosen on this one. Being on the odd roms doesn't matter according to the Motorola engineer I talked to. He said they also push the soaks out to the Consumer Cellular, Straight Talk, etc specific roms just like they do for all Moto roms since they need to be tested like any other rom. A buddy of mine actually got a Consumer Cellular soak rom on his AT&T phone while soak testing.

Thanks for the responses. I haven't done anything to my phone yet....wanted to be certain of some things first lol. Honestly, the amazon ads aren't bothering me like I thought they would. It's a great phone. I'm liking it. But I've had my nexus 5 for a long time, so almost anything is better haha. The quick charge 3.0 is awesome. I am just wondering if the Amazon bloat or ads do hinder the battery life?

Have you been on the Motorola forums? There's a big thread over there the mods are working on about that. Motorola says they're supposed to work and Verizon says the G4 isn't approved yet. Confirmed:

- Unable to downgrade to APGC...
Result...
No root & stuck with API4... (Not bricked)
so... in other words... IF you want root... stay with APGC and simply wait for an API4 ROM... (with APGC bootloader)

The API4 update is available to V1 phones. I took it, knowing I'd be getting a new phone in a couple of days.
As I understand it, they'll make you take it one way or the other.
i can confirm do not update your v2 note 7 to the new firmware. you cannot downgrade and they have blocked the sprint userdebug firmware from even flashing.
if you want to keep root. don't do it.
wht are the chances that the update comes straight from the box..

as long as the phones don't come preinstalled then it's fine.
Well... I just updated to API4 intentionally, to try out the new update on my v1 device. I gotta say it's much more snappier now and lag is completely gone after it fully boots everything. But it's still not worth losing root over. So I'm either gonna get a refund or buy the international version, better yet might just say goodbye to sammy all together.
I don't know why anyone is still surprised about non-Nexus devices being locked down. Sure, a device might get root access, but it's the OEMs job to fix it in future builds because it's an exploit that needs to be fixed.

Hey there, everybody. I'm currently running a manually odexed version of the stock N900VVRUEOF1 firmware, with bootloader unlock, TWRP 2.8.7.0, and am both rooted and running Xposed framework...
Out of nowhere, I see a long-forgotten icon, in my notification tray. It's saying there's a software update available! I wanted to make sure this wasn't some fluke (or to make sure I wasn't dreaming), so I checked out Verizon's update list.
https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/software-updates/
Lo, and behold! There's an actual, honest-to-goddess update! (Listed as: LRX21V.N900VVRSEPL1)
However, there is little to no information on what it is or does, apart from the ever-vague "latest security updates"...
Fearing a potential planned obsolescence (like the Note 7) or it wrecking my custom root/recovery/bootloader status, I haven't installed it.
I could try to unpack it all and go digging through it, but that takes way more time or energy than I can currently devote to this sort of thing...
Does anybody know what is involved with this update or have any other information as-to what it includes?

That's about all I could find as well. :-/
In an effort to get a better idea of what has changed, would you have happened to have installed this? If so, would you say that there's any noticeable difference in performance or features, apart from the obvious potential app updates?
I'm all for the performance fixes and whatnot, but I really don't wanna lose root. Does this patch over current root methods, bump the Lollipop build up to 5.1 (sdk21), or anything like that? These are the kinds of things that a number of folks (myself included) are curious about. If you have updated, any insight you might provide would be very valuable!
Thanks for your time!

Im running Stock VRUEOF1 with TWRP and rooted.
Any suggestions?
My GF and I both have the Note 3. Mine is rooted and her's is stock, so I told her to go ahead and install it. Yeah, it's just a security update. I decided to update mine and it fails with the 402 error. Likely because I'm rooted. I need to look into deleting the update and blocking OTA.

Thanks for the heads-up. This is the sort of thing I was worried about. Firstly, whether being rooted would mess with the update (perhaps it's just a partial update...?) and secondly, that I'd be able to keep root.
Assuming that your GF is okay with you borrowing her phone (which IS a rather large assumption, for nearly anybody), would you mind trying to see if current rooting methods still work for the new update?

I'm sorry to hear about having to do the full backup and restore... According to what yourself and xm41907 have posted, it apparently checks for full stock. Not sure how you managed to get as far as you did, but at least we know that this update doesn't play nice with rooted phones.
Performance/security improvements are great and all, but there are plenty of Xposed mods and manual tweaks to take care of that-- as long as there's still root.
If there's anybody who doesn't care whether they have root or not, I'd love to hear if current rooting methods still work after the new update, or if this update patches over or current for exploits.
Disclaimer: If you update, you do so at your own risk. However, we'd love to hear more about the details and any root-related insight.
Thanks, everybody!

I can ask if she is ok attempting root. I've been out of it since the Verizon Note 3 first got root capability. This brought me back to it seeing the bootloader can be unlocked and roms put on. I'm jazzed to try AryaMod !
I'm worried about what specifically it means by "Security Updates". I'm still on the OLD unlimited data plan. Because of this, I have to use FoxFi to tether as Verizon doesn't allow it. I'm worried this update may block it.
Can anyone confirm FoxFi still bypasses Verizon's tethering check post update? My Note 3 is totally stock, not rooted, and updated to the last patch(before this one).

Thanks everyone for your continued feedback about this update. I am still clinging on to my Note 3. This is most certainly my last subsidized phone on VZW with my UDP.

Only thing is it seems my battery life has become worse.

Update for everybody with the Note 3 I don't know if it's coincidence or not after updating but when I'm in the YouTube app and have my charger connected to my phone it will say dock is connected really quick and then disappear it will probably do this two or three times a day just wanted to throw this out there and let people know that there might be a bug in the update I will check my USB port and see if it's clean and not damaged

Thanks everyone for your continued feedback about this update. I am still clinging on to my Note 3. This is most certainly my last subsidized phone on VZW with my UDP.
In any event, I was just as shocked as you guys to see the system update notification. I went straight to Tibackup and froze the "System updates" app, which has tamed the notifications.

Hey Speed_Phreak - thanks for your post, I think I'm on the right track but still having some trouble. After freezing "Security Policy Updates.apk," "Samsung Updates.apk," and performing a restart, the OTA "security update" notification persists. How did you access "system update.apk?"

Freeze "System update".. in titanium backup.
Received this update today
yep 9.6.13 went public
Any changelog available ?
Also got it. But mine is 100MB bigger. How can I install it now the most easy way? My A2 is unlocked and rooted with Magisk. Only modifications are AdAway App hostfile and IOS Emoji Module in Magisk. I couldn't get it updated when the first Sept update hit.
Well, I got a big problem here. I received the update and downloaded the 442.1 mb update. But after downloading it shows 'installation failed'. I haven't rooted or unlocked my bootloader. Any ideas?

About the size... maybe a cumulative update with the previous one ?
Probably the same reason why it was not possible to apply the previous update : I think a rooted A2 will not be able to get OTA update.
For me, it's the main reason why I don't want to root it

If it is the same device, why are the update package sizes different? That's kinda odd.

Depends most likely from which version you are upgrading. Some are on August, some are on the previous September version
Got it! Must have been some minor bugs on the first and second try.

We already have a thread about the september update https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2/help/september-update-t3838695

I would guess they pulled the update because of "green picture" bug with HDR . I got the first September update and had that bug. Made quick test on new September update and can't reproduce it.
I have updated it for about 2 hours. It seems the battery life is much better now. At least it didn't drop in the last 2 hours. I'll check it again later.

You can by following instructions here, it worked for me
https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/blob/master/docs/tips.md
This will only work if you didn't make any modifications to /system, even mounting it writable will make it fail
I think adaway won't cause issues but only if you enabled the option "Systemless hosts" in Magisk settings
If it fails, get system.img from the august patch, flash it to your active slot and try again

Baseband version of mine is also 660_GEN_PACK-1.164129.0.164270.1. It seems that the battery drain comes again. After idle for 1 hours, it dropped 2%. But it seems not as fast as before.
