How long do you think we will need to wait?
Next year probably knowing Samsung. They support their flagships for about 6 months before they're completely forgotten about.
They're still rolling out 5.0 to some of their devices. The problem with Samsung is just last year they released 56 different mobile/tablet devices - How do you continue support for all of those?
It's the one thing I love about Apple - One device for the whole world, one device to update, nice and simple!
Agreed, and I am aware of their track record. I have seen a new urgency to get updates done quickly however, and given this will be their newest device I am hoping the ups are will drop quickly.
after the s7 comes out prob
I'm developing game for google daydream(their new vr platform) and zte axon 7 seems to be the cheapest android phone that is daydream ready. The problem is that in order to work daydream needs android N. Do you know what are their plans for releasing update on their phones/how fast they did it before?
At a rough guess I'd say that it will be some time after Google eventually release it. I also vaguely remember something somewhere about Daydream not being part of the initial release of Nougat but coming shortly after although a quick search has thrown up nothing.
I'm betting first quarter of 2017. I'd be shocked if it was before the new year.
Everything I've read is pointing to this year for the update they are selling it as "the first daydream phone" and I've read multiple places that they want to get it updated asap.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Every manufacturer says they want to update ASAP but all of them take longer than they claim.
Imagine if they "rushed" it out full of bugs and things breaking. As much as we depend on these things for life itself, I am happy if they take their time, do it right the first time, then release it! I work in IT and I know from first hand experience over 22 years that you're much better off doing it right the first time then to have to go back and hopefully fix the errors!
Apparently ZTE is part of the group of oems that have early access to the source of this new Android release. As they actively market this phone as "daydream" ready I'd assume they want it to work.
heck until today we had no idea when android would be released (supposedly mid to late August).
I think it will be before November when Daydream will come.
It's really close to daydream release date, are there any news about the android 7.0/7.1 update now?

Do you think Motorola will really pump out the update so quickly now that Lenovo owns them instead of Google?

If Lenovo is smart, it will happen on this time frame. After all, this was one of the selling points of this phone and brand. I can understand their stance on quarterly security updates vice monthly, so I don't think it is indication of any delay to be expected. Having recently acquired the Moto line, failure to meet this expectation would be bad for business. My only hope is that the level of quality fit future phones remains intact. I have had the bad luck of being burned by both a laptop and windows tablet by them. Both had mobos that quit within a few months of the year warranty being up.
It shouldn't take more than 2 months after the release for nexus which means in november ; marshmallow was released fir nexus devices in october and our moto recieved it in december! Actually I believe that it shoudn't take more than a month ! I mean the job is pretty easy for lenovo! No modding no UI changes..... It's pretty much stock android All it takes is a clean build ! It isn't that different from making an update for nexus devices!
First off let me say I Do Not intend for this to be another whine thread....
Just wanted to reach out and see if anyone has had any signs of an update. I recall from one of the previous now closed threads started one user mentioned the 5th as being a possible date. Though seemingly arbitrary date the 5th is here.
People chime in if you get the notification!
Nothing for me yet.
It probably won't come out until the new Google phones do. I know it's difficult for flashaholics, but be patient.
Now I'm waiting for the September security update for Marshmallow, maybe it will be late too. They seem to be in a huge work.
This thread is the best sign.

That's what intended mine to be, but it went south so fast! Lol no sign for me yet, I'm hoping maybe by tonight. It's REALLY behind said release date. Staying optimistic!
This is the only sign from Google I have seen.
Absolutely notting here. Not even the sept security update.
There will be a September in 2017,too
If I'm remembering the same post, a user speculated that the update would be tied to the September monthly security update. That seemed like pure speculation. I hope the updates are posted soon but I don't think today will be the day, since it is already the afternoon and a business holiday. Hope I'm wrong!
Hope it's soon.

Maybe tomorrow then, I forgot it was a holiday. What gets me is how they got everyone all riled up that it was gonna be in August, and it's gonna be out at the same time haha
Yeah Im ready for the official build too, this NPD90G preview wants me to want more, or at least some minor fixes.
No updates.............there will be speculations.
No speculations.....probably updates.
From what I've heard Qualcomm needs to do some driver upgrades for full Android N Support. If that is the case, it would explain why Google hasn't released the update yet, they simply can't until Qualcomm delivers. I can imagine Qualcomm has their hands full at the moment with all the smartphone companies out their requesting driver updates to support Android N as well.
I don't have any references for this, as I read it in a post somewhere but don't remember where. Don't take my word for it. But of course it would be interesting if someone could confirm or deny this.
I don't expect the update any time soon, but at least the latest beta runs very smoothly on my device. Can't complain at the moment.
Thats what has confused me DP5 runs well so id have thought it was near release quality but I guess not with the update taking so long. As far as qualcomm surely google should be the highest priority for drivers/updates given that they build the entire base that all other android phones base off? So an N driver for a specific SoC should work for all devices using that SoC?
I'm pretty satisfied with the Uber N ROM as is.
What @onemandivision said is correct, driver updates are critical. It's not just the kernel and the android base.
I'm a little confused by the delay though since it is already clear that phones on chips older than snapdragon 800/801 won't get nougat (ie 65-70% of all android phones according to some surveys), so there should be very few drivers to update/fine tune? Am I wrong?

september update , my s7 edge still has the july update , samsung are dam slow pushing updates , my nexus 6 has the latest dev update but hope oneday soon the real 7.0 comes out.
New Marshmallow Image up... (MOB31E)
The last update for PLK-L01 is B380 with security patches dated back to 1 August 2016. (I received the OTA in September/October)
It's February 2017 now.
Can we do something to urge Honor to be clear about their support plan?
Because it would be a shame that this device had no support after only one year of his life. ( 1 year !!! )
I'm not even talking about EMUI 5 because at this point there's very little hope but I will be very disappointed if there won't be any further updates. For sure I'll think twice before buying/recommending Huawei phones.
Sorry but I had to vent a bit.

I totally agree with you. It would be especially a shame because Honor promised a 2 year Update guarantee.
I don't think we can do anything about this situation the only answer we would get would be a "We are always trying our best" and so on.
Actually....Seem official that won't be any Nougat release (due to hw compatibility).... at the same time it's possible a porting of emui 5 features (split screen and other stuff) to an update for the divices that can't support Android 7 as H7.
This should include also fresh security patch, but I don't think we'll see this famous update before the summer.
All this is what I could understand, in totally unofficial way from the leaking of Honor support...
So let's hope.... something will arrive, but naturally to upgrade H7 and all the devices still young but that can't support Nougat; it isn't exactly at the top of the list for Honor now...
Anyway yes, H7 isn't a lucky smartphone; it have good hw; it run smooth and fast, and could deserve more....
....After all, I came from a Nexus 5; so I was use to have always fresh sw; and to have it before any other ......To tell the truth I don't care so much anymore, untill my H7 is running well (as now), software upgrade won't be a crazy pb.

Well i'm not even mad for not getting Android 7 and i am okay with that. But it would be nice if we could get some features from EMUI 5 at least. Let's see what the future brings us.
not officially at least: support should be granted for another 6 months, but don't expect much more than a few fixes and a security patch.... my guess is: tiny update with January security patch in the next few weeks, then a final small farewell update in summer.
further software development is out of the question IMHO. huawei just don't seem to learn from their past mistakes...

I Agree, could be a way...
...In all this, i think that is more bad luck with the last Nougat API not supported than any laziness or few interess in the developing...
But I agree another time that if Huawei/Honor want to fight with the top brands, they have to start to better follow their devices, or at least to have a clear policy on releasing update; without confusion or heavy bugs over major release.

People buying Huawei are the ones not learning LOL
But the problem AFAIK is that Honor 7 soc won't support Vulcan, which is required to get a official nougat build from a manufactorer accepted by google.
I have UL00 model and I'm using stable B386 from 01/12/2017. Security patch from 01/01/2017.
I'm just saying this version might come to other models too.
If you want to get security updates, get an iPhone.
Android is a totally insecure system due to the way Google had signed the manufacturers up. It always gets security updates several months later, and after a year and half you can throw your phone away or remain with your insecure system.
android N is nothing diff to android 6

I beg to differ... samsung s4 (2013) is on jan 2017 security patch, and even the cheap xiaomi mi2 (2012) has the same january 2017 update... personal experience.
so you don't need to have an iphone to get a decently long lasting software support.
among the top producers, it's just huawei that keeps disappointing its customers. and the joke is on us, since we still fall for it...

Thanks for the feedback, but you are just confirming the TOTAL mess android is.
My Samsung s3 had very bad support. It took months for security fixes to land after being released by Google.
And even worse for my Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1 tablet. After 12 months no support anymore. And for security updates it was a 6 months wait at best.
My HTC phone was very bad also. 6 months at best for security updates and no support anymore after 18 months.
So, as you say sometimes you can get lucky with some devices BUT YOU WILL NEVER KNOW IN ADVANCE if your phone will be supported correctly or not.
I'm currently still on Android because I like the OS, but as it is such an unsecure unsupported platform I think I'll jump ship to iPhone next.

it sure is impossible to foresee for how long a smartphone will be supported, but huawei has given us plenty of reasons in the last years to at least doubt their policy.
p6, p7 were a real shame, especially being the latter a bit pricey for a huawei; p8, mateS and h7 are the latest victims. and these are just the ones I personally know about. only h6 has had a fairly good support, especially for the price.
now I'm not saying samsung is perfect, they are far from it... (and I don't want to take into account tablets because it's true, android pretty much sucks when it comes to tablets and updates... :/ ) but since you came up with the s3 model, well that was a very hardware limited model... one of the last pre-JB models, with 1gb of ram only... especially with KK all the 1gb models became obsolete... but if you take the lg g1 that was commercialised only 4-5 months later with 2gb, it lived long enough to be updated from ICS to JB and finally to KK.
LG G2-G3-G4 are all receiving small updates from time to time, even if they are mainly only security fixes, but honestly it's the same thing happening with iphones, old models don't get the new features, just small fixes.
same with S4-S5-S6; not sure about M7, but I can guarantee for M8 and M9. Xiaomi still updates a lot of models from 2012-2013.
final words: among the big ballers, there's just one brand that keeps fooling its customers, and that's huawei/honor.
h7/p8/mateS are all 2015 devices... 2015... and h7's support has been dead for 7 months already... it's a shame!
Honor 7 will never updated to android 7.0, mb will coming some minor updates from vendors, mb..Last hope is only developers) imho
yes, they have abandoned us. From now never buy honor product.

Honor/Huawei
I had HTC phones in the past, then LG G2 and then changed to H7. I was very satisfied with it, because of smooth running, but when they announced that it wont get new update to nougat I was very dissappointed. Because it was clear then that there will be no updates, at least not any big updates. Its not old phone with good HW. And because of that I decided for iphone. No complaint till now, I have it for 6 months.
Answer AFAIK is nope, since Huawei/Honor only deliver one major update, and they did it "recently" (2016-09 according to their site) on Western Europe (PLK-L01) (probably the last wave who recieved it) with Android Marshmallow. But, the 5 and 6X recieved it.
