Please take the time to read this and report back as this is an issue not many people talk about this. It is very hard to come by information on the web about this but the issue is real.
I'm still on the Xperia Z, will be upgrading to the Z5 in January.
Xperia Z and Z3 have issues regarding priority mode, where SMS makes no sound in priority mode allowing for star marked contacts interruptions - and if stock texting app is set to priority notifications all incoming texts makes a sound. Clearly, this is not the intended behavior.

Wasn't priority on 5.0 and Google then scrapped it off on 5.1 because it was poo
No priority mode that I can see but Silent mode allows exceptions for events/calls/messages from anyone/favourite contacts/contacts. Is that what Priority Mode offered?

Yeah, Silent mode (hit volume down until you get there) shows a circle with a line through it for silent mode but shows a star if you have exceptions configured:
However, receiving a text from a Favourite Contact only vibrates - no sound. Notification light also flashes.
Texts from non-favourites only flash the notification LED.

I have noticed this . . .
When you turn on silent mode, if you look, you will see the volume slider is greyed out, but you can see the circle showing where the volume was previously.
To enable sound in silent mode for exceptions you have to put the phone on loud, and get rid of the slider, then switch to silent mode.
You will see the greyed out circle is still at the top, and yes, I can confirm that my Z5 will vibrate and sound the message tone when I set it that way.
If you have you your phone on vibrate, then switch to silent mode (allowing exceptions) you will see the greyed out circle on the volume slider is all the way down, and so, when you get a priority message, the phone will only vibrate.
So to summarise :
Before you enable silent mode with exceptions, set the ring volume you want for your exceptions first, and wait till the volume slider goes off, or press back, or home or whatever, THEN switch to silent mode, and allow exceptions.
I really wish Sony would allow the volume slider to be moved in silent mode as it does affect the exception notifications.
If I remember on 5.0.2 when it was called Priority, you could actually do it and move the volume for priority notifications. For some reason they changed it from 5.1.1

A friend of mine is having the same problem on Xperia Z2 on 5.1.1 that he activated that star by mistake now there is no way to get rid of it?

How do I even change profiles on a original P3470? I havn't found anywhere to change the tone-volume.
And, is it possible to get a keyboard like this: (from cruise)
I'll rather have this, cuz my P3470 qwerty-keyboard doesn't have a question mark! The cruize-qwerty seems to have more buttons when pressing shift.
And one more thing, in the quick-start menu, the one on the home-screen where you can have shortcuts to apps, why cant i have shortcuts to a contact, if i want to call that contact much, this would be very time saving.
I would also like to have some hints about a working reg-editor... cant get resco to work, and not PHM.

ALL, but the contacts on shortcuts-menu, SOLVED!
For adding contacts in the home screen you have to press the icon of the person (the pic with the little head and shoulders) and then press on one of the squares with the plus sign in it. Easy as pie! for removing contacts press on the square with the "x" in a circle and then tap on the square with the contact you want to remove.

Tone Volume Adjust
To adjust tone volume, U can just use 'volume button' on the left side. Push either of them => two vertical bars appear on screen. <note this have to do when you not on call>
- Left vertical bar on screen for key-tone, music...and others.
- Right vertical bar for Ring tone

When I get a new SMS, the phone beeps, and the phone unlocks. Why? Who in the name of someone thought that was a good idea?

the phone unlocks sofar that you can reply. so if you get a call when phone is locked screen goes on and you can react... but when you hang up the phone is locked again

Yes, calls are OK. But when i get a SMS, i want it so that the phone is locked until I press the power-button. It is often I cannot read the SMS when I recieve it. But when I get a sms my phone is living in my pocket, because it ulocks.
Just been thinking - is it possible to get the alerts/reminders/notifications that appear in the bottom bar when you hit the relevant icon in the upper bar, automatically ?
Its another bit of slightly-round-the-houses desing that means you have to hit the the icon to see what's going on. be very handy if this was possible via registry change.
any thoughts ?
Hear hear, tapping those notification icons at the top defeats the whole point of having a notification.
I really like that too. Don't like the actual system. I prefer the style of the old devices.
When an alarm is ringing, I grab the phone and before I can press the 'dismiss' or 'snooze' the dialog hides and I need to press 3 or more times to get it back.Its annoying

You can disable Touch3D
Search the forums for largetitlebar - then install it and disable large title bar - you will go back to the old setting
meaning u will lose previously installed colored title bars, etc?
But i'm willing to try it cause it is indeed annoying to click 3 times and than shutting it down.

isn't that a standard option? goto settings\personal\sounds and change the settings for reminders to show notifications

Hear hear, when holding the phone on the hand, for me that have a small hand, it's difficult to reach with the thumb finger the top bar!! I have to slide a bit the phone on my hand to reach the top bar with only one hand.
That's probably the main reason to get that notifications display on the bottom bar, to do every steps easily only with one hand

Does not work for 'New Text Message'
Hi, newbie here.
I am trying to get the Touch HD to come out of stand-by when a new text message arrives.
In my case, because I am deaf, I cannot hear any notifications. So i am reliant on the display lighting up (and vibration). I never had this problem with any of my previous devices.
However I do a lot of driving, and I have the phone on the windscreen, which makes the vibrate function ineffective. So, if anyone can assist in making text messages lighting up, I'd be really grateful.
Current settings as follows:
Play sound - yes (waitingtone - purely because it's the loudest tone I can hear)
Display message on screen - yes
Flash light for - 5 minutes (where does this happen?)
Vibrate - yes (better than my hearing anyway!)

There is a small flash light at the power button. I've set it up to flash forever in case of a missed call or a new sms. So, I don't have to turn on the screen to get this information.

Isn't there a setting in Tweak HD to wake up the device when a text arrives?
post removed... too slow!
In the menu Settings>Sound>System>Notification Sound there is no siIlent setting. So, I can't turn off sound when dialing an USSD code. If I move notification slider to the left I lose message sound. System sound slider in Soud Profiles settings is off.
Where do I turn this off?

It's all off. USSD codes-short codes for checking balance, activating carrier services etc. E.g. *123#.
There is no "silent setting" on this screen.

There is no silent option in notification sound as this is the global notification setting.
That sound option where you are talking about in the screenshot listens to the notification sound slider.
You don't mean dial pad sounds when pressing a number?
Or do you mean the response you get from the operator after dialing the code?

What he meant was the sound you get when there's a response for USSD code that you run.
For example, when you check balance / account status using eg. *126#, there will be a notification sound played (in my case, the default sound, Life is Good) when you receive the response from the carrier company.
I read somewhere, that it affects only D802 with HK rom. Can anyone else confirm?

If I'm not wrong notification volume slider is for messages and all other notifications too (viber, whatsapp...), so it's not good idea to turn it off. I meant sound after dialing a ussd code can't be turned off.

I have found a workaround solution. Just copy attached file (1 sec of mp3 silence) to sd card/media/audio/notifications and it will be available for selection in settings - sound - system - notification sound.

There was no ussd sounds when i was on stock lollipop on VS980 4G but after i installed the NDM 5.5 custom rom.....i get sounds after dialing ussd codes
How do i turn this off.

I have a note 3 running stock 5.0. Is there any way to put phone into vibrate mode without entering the pin in the lock screen? Before the on-off menu after a long press on button gave you sound options on the bottom so you could quickly go to silent or vibrate without opening to the home screen.

Half the screen is black. Picture come out properly but viewfinder is obscured.

It is not nice imo. When an impromptu meeting occurs I need to go to vibrate mode quickly. Before I could do it from power menu or by holding the volume button down.. Now I need to enter a pin. It is very inconvenient.
The opaque white notifications covering the status bar also suck.

Well I found a way for fellow gear owners. You install wearable widgets in gear from Samsung store then install a widget called Silent Mode Widget on your note 3 and add it to wearable widgets. The silent mode widget will then function from your gear watch. While the phone is locked and in your pocket you can set vibration mode or silent mode or normal mode right from your watch! Never even have to touch phone let alone unlock with pin.
I just recently got 5.1 on my XT1060. I want to set priority mode so that it behaves similarly to the old silent mode on prior Android versions. For example, when I'm sleeping, I want to set up priority mode so that I ONLY get alarms (no sound or vibrate for calls, messages, reminders, other app notifications, etc.).
Anyway, I have configured the following settings:
When calls and notifications arrive -> Allow only priority interruptions
Priority interruptions:
Events and reminders -> ***OFF***
Calls -> OFF
Messages -> OFF
My problem is that, even though "Events and reminders" is set to OFF, I STILL get a notification sound and vibration for reminders set within Google Now. However, this DOESN'T happen for reminders attached to notes within Google Keep. I haven't yet tested all the other possibilities with Calendar events and reminders.
In the "App notifications" settings for the "Google App", Priority is OFF.
What is the expected behavior?
This seems like a bug to me.
As an additional comment, it seems like it would be useful to have customizable presets for the Interruptions settings. Depending on the situation, I may want to configure interruption settings differently. For example, sleep vs. in-a-meeting vs. driving vs. in-a-movie-theater, etc. Rather than having a single "Priority" mode, there could be a drop-down where you select from an arbitrary number of customized presets.
Finally, how do the per-app notification priority settings interact with the Interruptions settings? For example, what is supposed to happen if I turn on Priority in the per-app notifications settings for Hangouts, but have Messages OFF in the Interruptions settings. What happens when I get an SMS?
Good day, it seems you're in stock 5.1. I'm running CM 12.1 20150916 nightly and its been great.
About the presets you mention CM has something called Profiles (see screenshots) and you can enable them from quick settings if you add Profiles as a tile.

Thanks. I have no plans to flash a custom ROM. I just want to understand what the expected behavior is and whether or not this is a bug.
