Update to 5.1.1 on a rooted Nexus 7 - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have rooted my Nexus and it is running on 5.1.0. I would like to flash the 5.1.1 via an OTA which I have received on my device. When I try to install it, the device reboots and I get a "Installing software update" message followed by an error. I would like to know how to install this OTA update without wiping the device. A method is suggested in https://www.aaronhastings.me/updating-to-android-5-1-0-on-rooted-nexus-5/ I would like to know how to use it on Windows.

Works on windows, too. You need to install the usb drivers, the sdk and then you use that tutorial for updating to 5.1.1.

nexus 7 toolkit...update server cannot be locate

i know there's a thread dedicated to it but since i don't meet the post quota, i can't ask in that thread. :crying:
i can't seem to update through the built-in updater. since the author doesn't seem to want to update the latest version for download, the only option to get the latest version is through the built-in updater which can't seem to ever find a server for me.
i can't seem to get my nexus 7 4.1.2 to root. it goes through the motion but when it's done i'm still not root. i was rooted when it was 4.1.1. on system update to 4.1.2, it kept the bootloader unlocked. i don't want to 'reformat' my nexus 7 again using the unlock bootloader option. :silly:
i tried wug's rootkit but it couldn't even finish doing a backup.
Boot into a custom recovery and flash either SuperSU or Superuser. This is completely trivial and is why you shouldn't use toolkits.
crachel - thanks! all i did was download and installed 'voodoo ota rootkeeper v2.0.3' from google play store. it installed something called 'supersu' in my apps list. everything seems to be rooted now. :highfive:
i didn't install a 'custom recovery' or had to flash either 'SuperSU' or 'Superuser.'

[Q] Error While upgrading Nexus 4

Hello All,
I have got the OTA update for 5.1 1 month before, But I am not able to install it, everytime I download the 5.1 after the reboot it gives me error screen.
I have attached the error screen, please guide me how I can install the update.
you need to be 100% factory state in order to install the OTA, just download the image from google and flash via fastboot.

No OS Installed Message TWRP but still reboots to system

I just got a new Nexus 7 (2013). I did all the OTA updates until I got on the latest 5.1.1 (LMY48G). I was able to unlock bootloader using Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit. I then tried rooting using the same tool but the process would freeze once it reached the step of temporarily booting TWRP. The window timed out while waiting for device. The tablet did boot to TWRP recovery. However, when I went to reboot to system from TWRP, I got a message saying No OS installed. I was able to reboot back to system despite the message.
At this point, I used Wug's tool to Flash Stock + Unroot. I then tried using CF- Auto Root which worked fine with me. I was now rooted but when flashing to recovery, I got the dead android. I tried downloading TWRP app from Google Store to updated recovery through that method. I did get TWRP flashed but again I still have the No OS Installed message when going to reboot. Finally, I used use Wug's tool to delete TWRP and go back to stock recovery (dead android). Then I tried flashing TWRP through Wug's tool but ended up with same result of getting No OS installed.
Any ideas why I would be getting this message when I am able to reboot back to perfectly working system? Has anyone else experienced a similar problem and been able to get TWRP working correctly?

Flash back the corresponding "stock" recovery.
You must also have an unmodified system to apply the OTA successfully.

System update after root?

Dear, a system update has appeared today. However, after downloading, it fails. I think it's because of root. Has anyone experienced something like this or is there any solution to install this update (75MB)
