Someone Smart Please help

First if you understand all the Hardware and specs and are taking the time to answer thank you.
The Note 5 is coming with the same chip as the GS6 did. So isn't the Note just basically a GS6 XL with spen? Or is there other differences that are supposedly made to make Note 5 a even better device. I read where the Note 5 set new records on the benchmark, and I know benchmarks don't mean much, but same chip, same version of Android, how is it supposedly most powerful phone out?

Maybe they write optimized code and run it only on note 5 so it will seem faster.. Apple seems to be doing this for years and releasing new phones with 'S' [emoji13]

The s-devices from Apple always have faster hardware running the same software. To the OP: the note 5 isn't going to be the top performer.

The note 5? Should be the same as the s6 as it's running the same soc and same nand.

Note series was always around the SPen , it's the only one in market that have a powerful real function-able input tool like the SPen.
My guess is Samsung will target the Note series lovers with the Premium materials - leather feel before now glass - and using the new successful SOC and Camera sensors used in S6 and S6 Egde . The Exynos this year was the best and S6 & S6 Edge was the fastest ever due to the new Exynos , Imagine boosting this processor to higher frequency with extra 1GB of RAM
Due to the design , we all say that it's just a big S6 with SPen so Samsung for sure and as always will add a new way to use the SPen and Note Features.
As a user for Note 2 , Note 3 and Note 4 for sure i will miss the Memory card option. Smallest internal memory size shall be 64GB since there is no option for SD Cards. although i am not that interested in the Note 5.
Although the amazing hardware Samsung uses in their Flagships , the device will always feel slow !! and this drive me crazy,
3GB or 4GB of RAM and the free are only lessa than 700MB !!! so the device sometimes feels lagy and this isn't acceptable , comparing to LG , LG does a great job optimizing it's software so the device always feels great in daily usage.

I had S6 Edge. Loved it. That thing was snappy as hell. For some reason it lagged bad on Internet. No idea if that was a RAM issue or something else. I loved the phone but having grown accustomed to bigger screens, and having eyesore that has progressively worsened, I felt like I was always straining to read anything. So I bought LG G4 and I know the Sammy guys in here will call me stupid, but it is overall the BEST phone I've ever had. It's not as snappy as the Edge was in transitions, but it's not leggy either. On the Internet it is always responsive & fast. It's big enough, the display is beautiful. The leather backs are cool. I love it. I wish lg would bring a Note type device to Verizon, but they won't.
I'm going back to Note 5. But to me Note has always one upped the Galaxy of the same year. The Note 3 upped the gs4, the Note 4 destroyed the gs5...now they just are making a bigger Galaxy not a better one. I was expecting the 7422. Unless they announce something tomorrow that differs from gs6 besides cosmetic, I'm going to look at the Moto X, maybe stick with G4. I hate Apple and this screams Apple. The Note series has never been the IPhone S series.
I'm sure some guys are going to tell me I'm stupid and why, thank you in advance for that, but that's the way it all looks to me.

- Every Oneplus phone is a good choice.
- Stay away from Samsung if you want good development.
- Motorola has some nice phones with good development.

Thoughts on the v10?

G4 seems pretty popular, but I don't know if it competes with the V10 performance wise. My first android phone was a second hand LG P350 which worked fine, and still does, only the battery is dead.
So thumbs up for LGs.
As a plus, the G4 and V10 have removable batteries and sd card slots, if you're into those sorts of things.
Another option would be Nexus phones. This will also give you the latest android version ahead of everybody else.
The downside is no removable battery and no sd card slot.
There's also a phone from Huawei, the Mate 8 or S I think, which is said to mop the floor with the S6 Edge+, performance wise.

How about Note3 vs V10 vs s6 edge? Can't decide...64gb SD card and extra battery are nice....dev would mabey be better for note5/s6 though. Ugh.

No it wouldn't. Thanks to the Exynos chip, developers are turning away from devices that have it. I've been on the S6 forum some time ago and I only saw touchwiz based roms mostly.
I don't recommend devices with Exynos chips because Samsung doesn't release sources very often (if at all) and that's a big problem for development.
And developers don't want to put up with all the hassle.

Nexus 6 (not P) is still a good buy. In fact, a 64GB model is what I'm shooting for in about a month. 128GB is too pricey, I don't want a fingerprint scanner, and I have no problem trading larger camera pixels for optical image stabilization. Oh, and don't forget that the 6 doesn't have the Snapdragon 810 inside.

I made an decision myself a few months ago. I chose the GS6 and returned it and kept my Galaxy S4. I chose to wait out for the Galaxy S7 and other flagships to be released. But, if you really want a superb phone right now, read below!
First in short:
1. Galaxy S6-series/Note5: Most reliable Android phone on all grounds. Most reliable camera for a 2015 smartphone and has a long-lasting battery. Weekly updates from Samsung which improves the phone are also there! No SD-card expansion here!
2. Moto X Play: Reliable AFFORDABLE!! Android phone that does not crash just like an Galaxy S6. It has a much lesser camera, yet still better than our Galaxy S4. It offers an SD-card expansion slot, AMOLED-LIKE display with brightness rivaling the mighty Galaxy S6-series. Battery-life is this device' top point. It easily outclasses every other modern flagship smartphone.
3. LG G4: Reliable Android phone. Not a reliable camera as the Galaxy S6 (bad dynamic range, bad OIS in certain situations, slow auto exposure-adjusting and many more) BUT when it does work, it produces amazing results in specific situations. Offers mediocre battery-life. Expect yourself to become a wall-hugger, although not as much a wallhugger as people with an iPhone 6(s). It DOES offer SD-card expansion AND a user-replaceable battery!
In details:
Personally, for a reliable phone, I'd pick the Galaxy S6-series flagship model. It's simply the best all-rounder with strong points at every aspect. The Galaxy S6 is imho very cheap for an flagship and is just plain awesome.
If you are on a budget, I recommend the Motorola Moto Play. It's truly a flagship killer, except for it's camera. It's camera is vastly better than what we have on our Galaxy S4, but it does not get close to what an S6 can produce. That said, the camera is very usable! The Moto Play has a truly astounding 5.5" IPS display, about as ridicilously bright as an Galaxy S6 can get and has a ridicilously high contrast ratio (very AMOLED-like!!!). It's killer point isn't it's display though, neither it's speed (keeps up with an Galaxy S6). It has INSANE battery-life! It smokes all Android flagships and Apple's iPhone 6S aswell when it gets down to battery life! Truly, the Moto Play is my top choice for EVERYONE that is on a budget, or is looking for an insanely fast and RELIABLE phone that has mindboggling battery-life. On a side-note, the Moto Play also offers MICRO SD-CARD EXPANSION.
The LG G4 isn't a great choice anymore. It has a lackluster display due to a very low ,maximum brightness, feels sturdy yet cheap. Camera is amazing in specific situations while in other specific situations, it performs worse than even our Galaxy S4 (microphone when outdoors, video in 1080p, the LG G4 is terribly oversharpened while our S4 makes it look smooth like you'd expect). BUT, it does offer user-replaceable battery and a micro sd-card slot! In my opinion, I never swap batteries and only use an SD-card slot.
For both the latest Galaxy S series flagship and the Moto Play you do not need custom roms for stability and reliablity. For the Moto Play you might want custom roms for extra features that the Galaxy already offers out of the box. The LG G4 is a mixed bag here. It's a playfull device, not as feature-proof as the Galaxy S6 is but there ARE custom roms availible for it!
I could give you way more input than this since I research smartphones for my own business regarding what device suits specific people the best.

Sisters getting the v10, thoughts? Are the v10 and g4 basically the same minus the 4gb ram, build quality and 2nd screen? Very in depth thanks....2015 not a good year for flasgships.... In a perfect world every model would have, at least, an option for removable battery and expandable storage. And I read the s7 might not have either but who knows.....mabey I should wait until next year. Just want the next upgrade to feel like my last upgrade from an evo3d to the s4 ha.

The V10 is a nice upgrade to the LG G4. But, if the camera is important to you then it's good to know that the V10 has the same issue's as the LG G4 BUT, the V10 can record video with manual settings! If you want to feel the massive upgrade, then wait it out. I myself owned an Galaxy S6 and returned it. My little brother and my father both still own their Galaxy S6. I am running Albe's Note 5 custom ROM and when I compare my S4 to their Galaxy S6, it really does not differ all that much. Multitasking on my S4 is the same as on the S6, app-opening speed of small apps differ only by a millisecond. Switching between apps is obviously lagfree and ridicilously fast on the S6 and not on our glitchy Note 5 custom rom-running S4. The S6 did give me a few WOW-reactions, which were:
- Battery life, ~8 SOT daily. I am a chat-aholic and thus I use WhatsApp & snapchat a lot. On my S4 on kitkat, I achieved on average around 6.5 SOT, while my S4 achieves only ~3.5 SOT on the Note 5 rom.
- Display: MUCH brighter and MORE visible display! The S6 is pretty much perfect to use at ~30% brightness outdoors. My S4 would need to be at ~75% brightness to match the same out-door visibility that the S6 offers.
- Speakers: Very rich, deep bass and insane low frequency response while maintaining a very surround-like sound. Also, incredibly loud!
- Camera: It never stops surprising me how ridiculously good the camera on the S6 is. Samsung favors on the S6 to have no noise at all costs. Resulting in ALWAYS having a perfect picture to post on the internet!
- Fast: It never slowed down nor hang in the ~4 months my little brother had his S6.
ONE BAD THING THOUGH! Agressive RAM-management!
So, why did I return my S6 and went back to my S4? The S6' camera was only notably better than my S4' camera at low-light. Sure, my S4 camera is laggy, low-framerate, but I can deal with that. Back when the S6 launched, my S4 was still on KitKat and was pulling daily ~6.5 SOT on around 30% brightness with mixed usage. The S6 barely outperformed my S4 back then. I got a few audio-enhancements for my S4 which resulted in the S6 being only a little bit louder than my S4 was with more surround sound and LESS bass, yes less!!! (Speaker amp at 55, viper4android and Music Eq, all working together :3 ). My S4 multitasked better than my new S6 and my S4 basically offered all the same functionality as the S6 does. Remember, this was with my S4 on KitKat!
Now, you must be having a tough time deciding what to buy... It really depends on what specific part of a phone is the most important to you.
Balanced best phone: Galaxy S6-series/iPhone 6s PLUS (only PLUS model!!!)
Battery best phone: Motorola Moto Play
Specific situations (camera) best phone: LG V10
I guess that's my list right now. All phones that have mediocre battery-life are phones I do not take as an option. A smartphone can only stay smart if it can survive a full day with normal use only. Otherwise it wouldn't be smart heh

Personally i'm going for Nexus phones all the way from now on. It may not offer all the features that the LG UI or Touchwiz do but i'm tired of waiting for updates, custom aosp roms not working properly due to the lack of drivers released by OEM's, tired of LAG and stuttering throughout the phone...
Nexus phones solve all of that.

Yes, they do that. But the same stability is also given by the latest Touchwiz and by Motorola's Moto mid-range and higher series phones. Especially the Galaxy S6 series and the Moto Play are terrifyingly amazing. No need for custom ROMS, no lag, no hiccups or stuttering, insanely fast and excel in batterylife which is exactly the part where the latest Nexus phones are terrible at. The Nexus 5X barely outperforming the batterylife of an Galaxy S4 shows how lackluster it's batterylife is. The Nexus 6P has average batterylife. Expect 1 SOT more on the 6P than you'd get on a stock Galaxy S4.
If you want a stable, reliable phone that does well at every aspect of being a smartphone, then the Galaxy S6 series and the Moto Play are the best option here. They update their phones fast, with the S6 having weekly system updates and the Moto Play a little less frequently but still gets the big software updates pretty fast. I owned an Galaxy Nexus and a Nexus 4 myself. In the end, I keep returning to the more feature-rich touchwiz on my S4. The Moto Play has near-stock android, but once again it's feature packed

Sorry but there are plenty of videos on youtube that show the Note 5 STILL lags, nowhere near as much as before but it's still there. Also i don't want to have to deal with crap like Knox voiding my warranty and ram management issues. Also i really like the smoothness and customization of AOSP based roms and AOSP roms will never run perfect on Samsung phones. + The S6 battery is complete crap.
I will agree that the Moto Play is a very good phone though, especially if you're into hardware customization and the price is quite good too.

Well guess I'll wait for the 820 chipset and see how it goes haha.......?

Yes. I'd also wait for the next generation phones. Right now there are far to many to choose from.

I do not own an Note 5. The only devices I own is an Galaxy S6 and an Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. Both do not lag. They DO lag when you enable power saving though. Both have very agressive RAM management issue's. I recommend you not to believe stories about bad batterylife of the Galaxy S6 as Samsung pushes (at least here, in Holland) weekly updates. Their last update was once again for batterylife. This time, it was specifically for battery-standby. And it really did pay-off since my standby times have much improved. If you do not have hazardous applications installed on your Galaxy S6 such as applications that promise to be an RAM-cleaner or a battery-saver, then you should be seeing SOT's of 6.5 hours or more a day on auto-brightness. When I just bought my S6, mine had insane batterylife. My father's S6 had terrible batterylife. I was pulling 8 SOT a day while my father only got at most 2.5 SOT a day. Back then he had stupid Google Play services drain it's battery. Right now, he too gets insane SOT since a month or two ago.
AOSP rom's on an Exynos device? Why'd you even expect that? It's common sense to not expect AOSP or CM for an Exynos device. IF it does happen (like the just released CM for the S6), then it will provide you great RAM management, terrible batterylife and a terrible camera-experience. The S6 as of now is the perfect device for the average joe AND for the average joe that likes productivity. Do not get the S6 if you are a flash-aholic and bound to use AOSP because you think Google is God.
Moto Play is bad at gaming, but does the rest very well. The only phone that is the best balanced is as far as I know, the Galaxy S6-series. It isn't the best at every aspect, but it's always one of the best at everything it does, and that's what makes that device special and is why I recommend the S6 now unlike a few months ago

I'm confused whether it's ram or processor or nothing can make fast my device.
I use 300 apps in my asus laser. And average running apps would be fifteen to twenty. All these might not actually use at a time. But they are staying in recent apps even i quit using them. Don't say my top uninstall useless apps.
Prob is apps taking more than 4 to 5 seconds time to open. Im seriously looking out for which does not take time after i tap on the app. This is my only requirement. Multitasking. Help?

Move to N5X

I thought I'd post a thread for my fellow S6 users planning to move to the N5X.
I had the S6 with me since the launch day itself. I was hoping that due the popularity of the S lineup there could be CM support just like S3 had.
After almost 9 months of waiting I finally gave up.
Yes there is CM for S6 but it is no where near stability. Without a maintainer there wont be any. Samsung will never release sources for exynos.
These facts however cold they maybe are straight forward facts. The CM source we have has a lot of work to be done, and I am not talking about 2 or 3 lines of code. Hals need to be written from scratch and tested. I believe in open source mindset. If I have paid almost 800 usd for a piece of hardware I should have the right to put whatever software I want.
So finally I moved to the 5X.
1) The build does not feel cheap, its lighter than the s6 yet sturdy and does not feel fragile.
2) The power button is not as tactile as the one on the S6.
3) Display is really good. 1080 is enough and I have to try really hard to see the difference between fhd and qhd. This is my first IPS LCD phone all others have been amoleds and I am pleased to say that the display on N5X is really subtle on the eyes.
4) Camera is very good, almost close to the s6. The cam app is not that great but I am using manual camera so it dont matter.
5) BATTERY LIFE! N5X only loses 1% charge over night. Doze is just amazing. I am almost getting 6 to 6.5 hrs of SOT over a 1.5 to 2 days of usage. I'm pretty sure I can push it to 8hrs of SOT.
6) Fingerprint scanner is faster than the S6. and the positioning is more natural.
7) The front speaker is really good. I can hold the phone without worrying about blocking the speaker.
8) Fast charging is pretty much the same as S6.
9) Earpiece quality and clarity are 2x better than the one on S6 imo.
10) The phone does not throttle or heat up even on heavy use. SD 808 is just working fine.
So if you are planning to move on to 5X or 6P, I would say go for it.
P.S. I am not here to badmouth our beloved S6. I love the phone, but the software just doesn't live up. Stock android is 100% better than touchwiz when user experience is concerned.

Are your comparisons based on the s6 on lollipop or marshmallow? Cos a lot of the things have improved a hell of a lot on marshmallow for s6 and that's just beta and not final version. The 6p yes, 5x nahh

No front physical home button, no care.
I had a N4 and N7 (2012 & 2013). Meh.

Wider, taller and thicker. The 2 extra mm in width is especially noticeable in the hand--at least it was when I held it. The S6 is pretty much the limit for me in terms of size. But the worst thing about the NX5 is onboard memory. 32g max. That is the ultimate deal breaker. I keep a lot of music on my phone and like to store locally whatever movies I buy from the Play store or videos I watch from Amazon Prime so I don't need a connection to watch. Plus, it drains far less battery than streaming. A 10-episode series on Prime is like 11g by itself. Come on, get with the times and at least provide the option of 64g model.

I wish we had codeworkx working on S6. Samsung is being a real pain in the a s s. I do understand that their code has some really vital info that could help it's competitors but they can at least provide the basic documentation for the exynos soc.

That makes no business sense. Probably fewer than a few percent of users want to flash custom ROMs, and encouraging them to do so by releasing full sources only increases costly warranty claims. They've totally snubbed the development community, so it's time for us to either be content with TW or move on, IMO.

You guys over exagerate quite alot..stock rom especially with marshmallow is fast and smooth...im getting between 5.30-6 hours sot...
Nexus 5x is a inferior product compared to the s6...even the nexus 6p is not on par with the s6...the only one which is going to be worth getting in my opinion is the upcoming s7..and im going to get the s7 exynos variant not the snapdragon one.. simply because it will be faster.

I never said that S6 was a slow phone. It's about what's opensource and what's not. Touchwiz on the S6 is the best I've seen on a samsung device. But the way samsung heavily modifies aosp and does not tell us is very unfair. Look at sony, they got their custom timescape UI, but still they support AOSP and provide the right sources.

not happening in 3-4months,i think we can expect first stable build(with few bugs) in late 2016
the devs are doing it for fun,they can stop developing whenever they feel like and like OP said no "maintainer" so we cant expect a totally stable build
i wish samsung makes marshmallow tw as good as stock

by 3-4 months google will announce Android N release. Then there will be another reason to wait for samsung to release some source.

If you want development, the S6 shouldn't even be in contention. We buy the S6 for premium build and the built in tech like fprint scanner, IR Blaster, Heart Rate Monitor and crazy gorgeous screen.
Even with that ****ty CM, half the tech built in will not work properly so why buy the S6 hoping for CM?

To the OP, any issues with the reported lag on the 5x? I'm looking elsewhere from my s6 because even on that "premium" phone, I get lag opening hangouts and even at times typing. I never had any problems on my previous original nexus 5.

I'm really stuck in this same move myself. I bought a s6 when my nexus 5died because it was the best hardware around. Little did I know that the monster of a processor would be gimped by poor ram management. I bought a 5x during the holidays and I really enjoy the stock Android and solid battery life.
Then they came out with the marshmallow beta and fixed most of my reservations - ran management, keyboard killing, fingerprint sensor speed, and standby drain. The mm build is competitive in enjoyment, at least until the next nexus comes out.

Hardcore nexus and flashaholic user here since g1days. S6 is my first samsung. I had nexus 4, nexus 5, OPO, Nexus 6 most recently. 6 was nice but too bulky.
I'm really enjoying the stock samsung experience. Getting 4.5 hours SOT. Fast charge is super nice and I love spay and ir blaster remote. I run action launcher. I'm officially a reformed flashaholic.

I'm flasholic since i9000/9003. Last hardware running on cm was klte. Really like the layer theme and so on but after using new tw on s6, my bad behaviour gone slowly. And after trying beta 6.0 tw I send the resignation letter to bug hunter division. I guess I already too old for bug fighting.

I have a s6 and just bought a nexus 6 , thats a great phone and cheaper than the 5x , keeping both , as they both have thier plus and minus , use my s6 with the gear vr and that is cool to watch movies , so plan to keep the s6 after the s7 is out for the vr side.

Moto X Style/Pure vs Galaxy Note 5

Anybody had the chance to test both or probably own both? What would you recommend? I have the option to get Note 5 for just 50 EUR more than Moto so I can't decide. This is what I was able to gather
Camera: better on Note 5
Battery: better on Note 5
Display/colors: better on Note 5
Updates: better on Moto
System: better on Moto (pure android)

It depends on the time you will keep the phone with you... Apps/android get heavier and heavier with time, and add that to an already heavy interface that is touchwiz, for me that takes a good year of life a phone may have. I'm personally not a fan of touchwiz, or of all that bloatware samsung throws at a phone to start with, but i gotta say i was kinda seduced by note 5. The phone is gorgeous, AMOLED is awesome (even though it burns with time, another thing that adds to the decrease of the phone's life), the battery seems fine, there was some power tests with it and it held up quite well... but i still went for the x style 'cause of the clean, top notch system. Also battery life isn't that much of a big deal, 'cause turbopower charges really fast.

The Note 5 is has an Exynos SoC, so you're pretty much guaranteed dismal development on it. I just glanced at the Note 5 xda page and it looks like it is just some stock mods. That would be fine on the Moto X. I'm actually just running rooted stock on it now, but on the Note...Touchwiz [involuntary shudder].
I've heard Touchwiz is getting better, but I'm not so sure Touchwiz is getting better. I just think Samsung is cranking out some awesome silicon that is actually capable of dragging that boat anchor.
You better believe Samsung has already moved on to the next big thing. Supporting last years' flagships is not high on their priority list. My other phone is a Galaxy S3, a 2012 flagship. It hadn't seen an update since it got kitkat in late 2013. In mid 2015 they actually pushed another OTA, but it was just another kitkat version that was supposed to patch stagefright vulnerabilities. Hilariously enough it only patched about 2 of the 6 or so CVE's.
On the other hand that phone is actually running rock solid CM 12.1 based custom roms. It also has some pretty promising early CM 13 based builds, but it has a Qualcomm snapdragon SoC (its the i747 not the i9300). It is kind of a sad state of affairs, but we really rely on the dev community to keep our older devices patched and up to date more than at least some manufacturers.
TLDR - Samsung makes great hardware, but they can keep their Exynos, their Knox, and their Touchwiz. I know of no reason why the Superbrick treason should ever be forgot. Give me Qualcomm, a close to AOSP experience, and a microSD slot please.

Im simply tired of touchwiz and samsung not sharing any documentation of its exynos soc other than that s6 is a very nice designed device but the htc10 just seems to manifest my dreams.
bootloader can be unlocked
sd 820, 4gigs ram and sure it will be the first sd820 device running cyanogenmod soon.
only thing i will miss is the amoled screen thanks to samsung for locking bootloader of sd820 s7. i knew this would happen long before the bootloader rumors came out. they simply dont want people to make any custom modding on that soc so they dont loose exynos customers.

i wait 2 model cycles/years, so Galaxy S8 or HTC 11. If I had to get a new phone today, I'd get a S7. HTC 10 looks great, but I'd rather have a LED screen.

I am still waiting, I want an amoled screen, large internal storage (128GB), IR Blaster, good camera. No phone except the S6 fulfills these needs. I also would like a durable phone (plastic) removable battery and waterproof and dual good speakers but these are secondary needs. I also prefer touchwiz

ZUK Z2 Pro. Main reason is the big battery, (probably) CM OS out of the box, and the fact that I can sell my S6 and pay only a tiny bit more to get the Z2 Pro.

had n4, n5, used n6p... nothing from those manufacturers mentioned comes close in terms of stability, customizability, integration with google. They do have some features I'd like to see in pure android natively, but those can be achieved with root (and since it's not voiding warranty there is no argument for me not to do it). Camera was an issue... till n6p, definitely not an issue anymore.

I'm staying with S6 until S8/S9. I happen to like modern Touchwiz so as long as Samsung keeps producing arguably the best hardware around I'll stick with them.

Top smartphones at the moment (in my opinion!):
1st: Galaxy S7 (edge)
2nd: HTC10
3rd: Nexus 6P
Next phone I will maybe get will be pretty sure the Nexus 2016 (6 variant), if its a flop the Galaxy S8.
But I have to say with Samsungs new Good Lock UI I dont miss Android Vanilla that much anymore. Its pretty okay and in many ways even better than Android Vanilla.

The S6 is perfect with the exception of battery life. Here's hoping they reintroduce IR and perhaps bump the battery beyond 3000mah. Also, USB C is needs be there in the next galaxy.
