To start, I'm definitely satisfied with my 64gb, black leather and red accent MXP. My biggest concern right now is the announcement of the Nexus 6P. Modders/developers, will this effect the potential of future development for the MXP? I'm with Verizon, so my choices on rootable/unlocked devices is very limited. Anyone else concerned and debating on selling/returning MXP? Also, with Android M announced, this will now show how truthful Motorola was on updating MXP.
I am happy with Moto. Nexus 6p is not much better oh and more expensive.

I haven't even seen my custom MXP yet and I'm debating returning it. My MXP has been at my house since September 18, but I'm at college and won't be able to retrieve it until October 10. I only have a few days left whether to tell my Mom to return it or not (Motorola only allows returns within 14 days of delivery).
The Nexus 6P definitely looks like the better overall phone spec-wise. But the differences are marginal.
The upsides to the MXP that make this a very hard decision are the customization, so I like the design much better (doesn't look like an iPhone), and the Motorola apps that the phone comes with (I kinda like the fact that it's not 100% stock android, but close). I'll also be able to have it in my possession much earlier (Nexus 6P doesn't look like it's shipping until November).
The only reasons I'd go for the Nexus 6P is the bigger battery and the better dev support.
Very hard decision to make here. Motorola's customization should not be overlooked here, while I think that the Nexus 6P's marginally better specs could be.

I know the two devices are so very similar with a $100 price difference. Just hoping modders will stick with developing for the MXP, biggest reasons for getting the MXP, was for near stock OS and development here at XDA.
Also, who should I donate to for development of CM for MXP? (I know it's probably a huge list of users, I do like compensating those for their time and efforts)
The only person I've seen doing anything with the MXP recently is Harsh. That is great but the odds of people suddenly grabbing this device for development, with its fairly obvious and well reported shortcomings is pretty low IMO. Especially with the nexus already announced and shipping in 30 days.
I bought my MXP on the third and still don't have the stupid thing. Sorry but that is pretty pathetic on Moto's part.
Add to all this Leno gutting Moto right before launch and the odds of updates being speedy being diminished greatly makes the MXP the riskier device.
I don't need the finger print scanner but its nice to have. I normally don't lock my phone but I would with the scanner and for last pass and bank stuff its really nice to not have to tap in my log pass word. Add to that Amoled is better and a better chipset that won't struggle when the gpu runs and bigger battery make the $100 a no brainer. My pure is most likely going back assuming it even gets here.

I wouldn't return it, 6P is much more expensive per storage option and really you'd only be adding a fingerprint scanner, besides that its just a small step up. Also you probably wouldn't see it until years end since on the reddit threadspeoples delivery dates are now at mid-late november and that was hours ago.
The dang device has been out for 3 weeks! The developers that have the brand new device have had it for 3 weeks, and most wouldn't not buy another device after they just bought a $400 phone for a downgrade in specs! //rant

Valid point... Maybe with the 2 devices being so similar, developing for each might not be too different either and possibly porting 6p mods to MXP might be an option.
I'm having a little buyers regret as of today, but I'm not sure if it's worth the $100 more and I've grown to quite like the Moto sensor features and their "always listening" feature.... I use it much more than I thought I would.
I'm sitting here looking at a brand new OnePlus2 that I got yesterday - I received my invite and had to try it. I'm thinking I could sell that and get the 6P (with a little more $$ thrown in) and see what I think of it?
It's a never ending game.... In a couple months, a new Flagship will be out and I'll wish I had that too... I have to stop somewhere and pause for a while.

I have a OnePlus 2 invite as well. I was thinking about trying out lol, mainly because of the fingerprint and Snap 810. I already ordered the Nexus 64GB Aluminum and I will be sending this Moto back.

The OP2 sounds pretty weak (speaker) compared to the MXP. It even sounds pretty weak compared to a Galaxy S6/S6 Edge/iPhone..... Also, during the initial setup my battery went from 93% to 52% in just a 35-40 minute period. This included downloading and applying the 2.1 Oxygen update and several apps from the app store and restarting after the update. My M9 had a Snapdragon 810 and it was snappier than the OP2, IMO, and sounded a lot better too.
I did like the off-screen buttons and the home button/fingerprint scanner.
I think that's what I'll do.... Sell it for as close to the $400 I paid (after shipping) for it and put that back for a N6P.
The biggest complaint I have about the MXP is I can't find a screen protector to fit it!

Interesting... Thanks for the response. I recommend the 6P pre-order, this phone looks like it will be a winner. Huawei makes pretty nice phones, I'm glad they teamed up with Google. I was thinking about getting the OPT still but trying out HydrogenOS, I'm hearing good things about it and of course you always have CM.
You don't have cm with OnePlus 2... They ended their relationship a long time ago, hence why they had to go to Oxygen.

The oneplus one was great. I had an invite for the 2 but I passed on it for the Pure. Now my pure is going back as its not living up to expectations and I have the BIg P on pre order.
Its like $50 more for the nexus. Lots of little things make that worth it, biggest of all is the development on the nexus will be much better.
For me switching to the Nexus will only cost me about $5 more or $55 more if I do a 64GB since I spent $475 on the Moto with 32GB and wood cover and $20 on a memory card I probably don't need but bought simply because I could lol. So take away the memory card and the upgrade is only $25 but I get a better battery, fingerprint reader, instant updates, at least 2 years of updates, maybe better camera, AMOLED displace, notification light, etc....seems like a good deal at least for me.

I'm basically in the same situation. 64gb with leather and have a 64gb SanDisk UHS 3 card. If I bought the 64gb 6p I would save money. I might just keep MXP so I don't have to deal with selling it.

Just to update you on something, OT here...
I boxed up my MXP this morning and have been using the OP2 all day... I've got about 10 hours of up-time with about 1:20 SOT and I'm at 77% on my battery. To be honest, this feels just about like the MXP... And I'm hoping this gets better after a few days of use (set up like a new ROM last night before bed).
I've had wifi on all day, took more calls than usual (4 calls), listened to music through my speaker (still sounds weak) and played 3 songs though my bluetooth speaker, just to test it out........Plus all the normal texting, email, weather, app updates, ect...
So the battery seems to be better after initial setup, which I'm extremely glad!
Now, if I can just make it with this super weak speaker for 5 weeks until my N6P arrives, that's gonna be the hardest!

So I ended up passing. I ordered the product and I saw the processing time may take 5-10 days. Who know, maybe we'll get lucky and the 6P ships early (fingers crossed) . I've been using my OPO and It's still smooth as day one, so I will hold on to it and use it as my backup phone. I will probably use the OPT money for a smartwatch, the Samsung Gear S2 comes out tomorrow.

Sounds like a good plan! I never had the OPO, but it seems to still have a pretty strong following.
FWIW: I was told there was a 5-10 processing period too, ordered it Thursday evening.....Tried to cancel it a couple hours later and was told "it's already been processed and cannot be cancelled now".... It arrived Monday morning. So I think the 5-10 day is a CYA thing they use, which isn't a bad thing, I guess?
I did the Smartwatch thing earlier this year (Moto360 than a Sony SW3)... Loved it at first, but it only lasted about a month. I didn't like the bluetooth drain on the battery..... My OCD already watches my phone battery too much, with the extra drain and now another device to watch the battery on, I didn't get anything done!

Been thinking about getting the new Nexus 6P yesterday had the money in my pocket and walked out without it..

I actually feel that it is a step backwards. Yeah sure, its a "64bit" and can fix up the disk encryption performance problems, but overall, the SD810 is actually WEAKER than the 805. I *certainly* wouldn't spend any money to switch over, especially going from a premium brand like Motorola (and yes, it is still a premium brand) to a bottom rung like Huawei.
Now if everybody had gotten their a**es in gear and made this an SD820, then I would really be in a situation of regretting having purchased the 805 and not just holding onto the 8260A for a few more months. I will not buy a new phone every year -- 2 year min lifespan for me.
Just wondering, where did you go to look at one in person? I'm not really looking for a new phone, but I'd like to go take a look at both of the new phones just to see what they're like.

The 6P looks like a really nice phone, but there are 5 things stopping me from buying one:
- Smaller screen (I'm the type of guy that could carry a 7 inch tablet as a phone and not whine)
- Snapdragon 810 (pure trash)
- Made by Huawei (never heard of them before)
- My Nexus 6 gets the best reception of any phone I've ever owned and I don't want to lose that
- I just bought a Nexus 6 in June and another July (went swimming with my first one :crying: ) and can't justify spending another $650 on the 6P
I'll wait for the 2016, or possibly even the 2017 Nexus phones.
I find my nexus 6 a little too wide so was considering the new one because its slightly narrower it was a tad difficult to hold properly because the only one carphone warehouse had was attached to the security tag/cord which was attached to the back of it...
Struggling to justify the cost to drop a few mm in width...
if you are into phonography, the 6p camera is much better.

What's wrong with the 810, i have an m9 and an lg g flex 2. I play hours of 3d games like contest of champions, clash and psx emulator, and It doesnt either explode or cause third degree burns. It gets pretty much as hot as my nexus 6 which is 805.
I'm hoping Best Buy has them at some point to go look at them. The Nexus 6 is great, but it's nice to see what is replacing it.

Everything I've read says it throttles very aggressively, sometimes for no obvious reason, causing lag and other performance issues. I've seen other people say it overheats just browsing the web. Of course these are just random people on the internet and you can't believe what they say.
I played with an M9 at the Verizon store the other day when I was helping my friend pick out a new phone and it got very hot very fast and began to stutter and lag. Granted it was plugged in and was running whatever demo stuff they load onto it, so that could have been the cause.
My Nexus 6 never gets hot, or even warm, with my use. I'm sure the 6P would be fine with stock Android and no bloat, but I still don't want an 810 powered device.

Have you even read actual xda forums for the m9? There's about a billion roms and the ones who post about throttling are usually non-owners like you that believe these things even when they don't actually own the phone. Everybody has the right to choose, but I feel bad for you for making decisions based on awful information.

I don't own an M9, so why would I read the M9 forums? The 810 isn't the only reason I'm not buying one. The main reasons are:
- I've bought 2 Nexus 6's this year so another new phone is not in my budget
- I've never heard of Hauwei so I'm a little reluctant to drop $500+ on a phone from a company I've never heard of before
Just because you have never heard of them ..... They are the 4th largest phone manufacturer in the world ahead of lg etc
Most have never heard of companies like xiaomi or one plus
Either ....
Doesn't mean they don't make quality tech

Times have changed. Huawei and other chinese makers are anything but noname companies. However,I wouldnt buy a Nexus 6p. The design is just horrible.
I think the 6p is better than the Nexus 6 in any way imaginable. Its a total upgrade across the board and according to all the reviews pouring in, the S810 performs wonderfully on the new nexus.

Been a flash addict for years now, and have always loved Nexus line of phones. This last year I got the LG V10 (preordered) instead of the 6P.
I am still using my V10 and have very few real complaints with it. But I miss being able to root
I see the deal on Beat Buy for a refurb 32G 6P ~$315 and want to pull the trigger.
Would you guys pull the trigger on this phone, having used it the last X amount of months already? I want to have a phone I can enjoy, flash anything on, and still at the end of the day enjoy as much as my V10

Most definitely. I love stock Android and the fact that I'm already using Android n and will have the final official version months before. Overall I like Samsung hardware/design but their downfall is 5+ month wait for updates and the fact that touchwiz starts to lag. That in my opinion is unacceptable. I also love the stereo speakers and the big screen. Overall it's the perfect package at least for me

Definitely. One detraction: thermal throttling SUCKS on there 6p. Until you root and change there thermal settings, gaming is crap. Otherwise, love it!

I'll be honest with you, and I doubt many people would feel the same way I do, but I recently bought a 6p (simply because of the ridiculous price I managed to snag it at) which I use as a travel phone and something to store my offline Spotify playlists on.
My main phone is an S7 Edge, begrudgingly bought as the Note 5 wasn't released in the UK and I had previously used a Note 4.
After playing around with the 6p, I find myself gravitating towards it.
It's a fantastic phone, don't get me wrong- it's huge, but it's freakin' incredible.
I'm genuinely considering swapping my sim over to my 6p and leaving the S7 Edge on the side.
The only thing that keeps me with the S7 is the camera, however, I can't fault the 6p.
It's a great phone.
I'd highly recommend it.
Oh also, I'm running the Android N Dev preview.
It's FANTASTIC.

As someone who has bought and sold over half a dozen phones in 2 years, I dumped my Note 4 for the 6P and haven't looked back. I've had it for about a year now, and I have no desire to get anything else. The others all left me wanting in some way, but I'm thoroughly impressed with the 6P. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat if I had to, it's definitely worth the price.

Bought mine late (a few months ago) after my LG G4 died twice (boot loop error and wifi issues, and my wife's G4 is doing the same now). I wouldn't think a phone that has been out this long would still be on top, but this thing is great. I have no issue with the camera (yes, its slow in HDR, but it has to process the image), the fingerprint sensor is a must-have (my first phone with one), and the size is perfect. Its big, but not too big. Screen is awesome too. My only issue is with the bluetooth, and its just minor stuff, but I'm not a heavy BT user to begin with. Battery is amazing so far as well. I will not go back to LG for quite some time. I loved my G3, but the G4 was total garbage. The camera was good, but waaaaaay overprocessed by their software.
The 6P is a total winner
I got mine as a gift (yeah I know) in July. I love this phone. Yeah, granted gameplay isn't the greatest for me. For graphic intense games stutter quite a bit and battery life isn't the greatest (I think this phone might be defective), but vanilla Android has been the way to go for me. The HTC 10 would've been my next choice though. So in short, yes I would definitely buy this phone.

My wife gifted me a 6P at Xmas last year to replace my aging HTC M7. I have to say this is the best phone I've had. However I would not purchase one tomorrow, it is far to close to the release of a new set of Nexus devices to even consider purchasing this phone right now. I would personally wait and do one of two things.
1. When the new Nexus comes out and if money isn't an issue I'd go ahead and pickup whatever replaces the 6p.
2. When the new Nexus comes out and if I wanted bang for buck I'd buy a heavily discounted 6p.

It's the best phone I've ever had. the battery life is awesome for me (5-6h SoT), fast charge, great camera, great screen size, fast fingerprint scanner, I couldn't go back to a phone without front facing speakers. Yes I would buy this phone again tomorrow

I was about to post a disappointed with 6p post in general but I'll start here instead. I LOVE Android and the phones and want to love the 6p but I just cannot keep it as my primary.
What I love:
Screen is beautiful
Battery life and charging speed are great
Speakers are really nice
Phenomenal cameras
Why I can't keep using it:
Phone conversation quality is just above terrible with headphones. I have constant complaints over the quality on the other end when I use any headphones, doesn't matter brand, style, etc. Would LOVE any fixes people have found.
The 810 is a horrible processor. I cannot believe how hot this phone has to get to just run average games. I live between the iOS and Android world, l just enjoy seeing what they both have to offer. My nearly 2yr old 6+ crushes the 6p in gaming, any game, any tweak, doesn't matter they just run better. On top of that using the thermal tweak to reduce, it doesn't get rid of, the gaming lag turns the phone into lump of hot coal. I can't comfortably take a call if I've been playing a game.
Ambient display, I've had to turn it off because no matter how I positioned my phone it would turn on in my pocket and I'd have a long typed up message of garble or something else very random on screen.
I so badly want to love this phone, it's a great size, I love Google integration, I love Android, I just can't use it as a daily driver.

It's a great phone with a gorgeous screen and big display But..... The 810 Is horrible and throttles heavily, the build quality isn't great and the videos are horrible without OIS. I wouldn't buy it again at this point in time, I'd wait for the Note 7 or the next Nexus.

I'm currently using the OP2 and was Planning to Upgrade to the Pixel.
But at that price point and with those huge bezels it is not a valid option anymore.
The OP2 is okay atm, but for my usage the battery life is horrible.
So i was thinking about buying the 6P or the OP3.
The OP3 has obviously better Specs but after owning the OP2 and seeing how they handle "Old" devices i dont know if i want to still support them.
So at the current price point is the 6P still a good device to buy?
Or do you guys have any other Suggestions in the price range 300-800€?

Yes yes and yes. I bought one for 340 euros few days ago. Nice screen good camera stereo speakers and a nice metallic build for this price is a no-brainer. I won't even mention you can get many Pixel candies running on the 6P plus custom ROMs availability and all the goodness you can find here in XDA.
I recently switched back from a Huawei Mate 8( Screen cracked) and couldnt be happier. Especially if you were interested in the Pixel. You can turn your nexus devices and many more into a pixel outside of camera.
I got a 128gb for around 400 graphite color. Phone is still a beast. Sounds weird but I have to get use to 4hrs of sot again.
It will hold its value a couple more months. Plently of phones releasing next few months also.
I already have a 32go 6P, and I am on the fence to get myself a 128go for travels when I cannot count on the cloud for backups. I use the camera a lot every day, and I guess traveling abroad more frequently makes this purchase adequate. I don't see any reason why I should buy a Pixel XL as the price of the 6P was already high last year. And I already have a oneplus 3 with the SD820 & uefs 2.0. Ok it is noticeable, fast and all but the 810 chip isn't that bad as it has been described. I remember reading from Anandtech that it was the best implementation of this chipset, and it is true. Yeah it has turned hot, at times of heavy usage, lot of photography editing and pictures taking, but that's expected. So... I'd still recommend one, at least, one gets a wonderful 5.7 inches wide screen plus two front facing speakers and soon the same features thanks to the XDA community.

Normal day would get me through a work day easily.
I am a heavy media/web user. On my off days easily 7am till 10pm(typically when I'm sitting still) without a charge.
My work days are what I test. Unplug at 6am stream music/podcast/YouTube from 9-6 off and on using bluetooth. Lots of regular everyday browsing and 1-2hrs of talk time. Normally last %15 around 6pm. Haven't died on me yet while out and about but I adjust my usage naturally.
My usage is heavier at moment, renovating a house so I'm non stop browsing looking for ideals and deals. Birthdays, trip upcoming and holidays so every things ramped up. Nothing beats the mate 8 but I get home with more battery than my wife's note 5 and she's on wifi while out.
As of now im at %54 with 2 hrs of sot. Phones been off charger since 5am.
I forgot about these damn speakers. I always forget to charge my lg headset and was doomed with previous phone. I put the 6p in a metal bowl and speakers are loud and clear with music.

It's a fantastic phone. Only one I've liked better is Note 7, and you can't go that route. The camera is really, really good, I think it lacks credit there because of previous Nexus phones. The rest is crazy ROM selection, mods that will bring you Pixel goodness at less price and nougat. What's not to like?

Yes it is. My old G3 died late last month and I replaced it with a 128GB P6. I couldn't be happier with it; and given the crazy price points on the Pixel, I'm glad the G3 died when it did.

Battery on my Release Day N6 is dying. Only charges on the Turbo Charge and drains way to fast.
I can move on and the Pixel XL looks like my best option, (I'm not in love wit the Pixel) because the Moto Z Force will never have root and that's a great phone.

My buddy does phone repair and has the heat gun, tools etc and I can swap batteries with another N6 I have that the screen is shattered on. But It'd be a week before I can get to his house :/

Oneplus is pretty fast on updating their software. I mean at the end of the day, Its kinda ridiculous to spend $650 and up for a smartphone nowadays.
Oh and I still have my nexus 6 as my back up, the phone is still getting the job done for my usage.

OnePlus is not an option on Verizon
Nexus 6 batteries are between $12 & $20 on Amazon. That's pretty cheap. I think it's worth the trouble. There's some YouTube videos on changing that battery and it doesn't look too difficult. Plus you have an extra Nexus 6 to practice on if I'm reading the OP correctly.

I still love my shamu 64GB I plan on changing my battery whenever it stops holding a charge. All rechargeable batteries have a finite number of times they can be charged before they start acting the way yours is now. Once your battery is replaced with a quality replacement you'll likely be good for a couple of years and shamu is still an awesome device in my opinion. I'm a little apprehensive about changing my own Nexus 6 battery but when the time comes I'm gonna give it a try. Let us know how it goes.
@HipKat don't go for Nexus 5x or 6p as both suffers from some hardware related bootloop issue. Just go to their respective forums and anyone can have a look at the Q&A section. Not worth the trouble as the phone is bound to randomly die at some point.
If those are your only option and you won't change carrier to get a OnePlus 3T, then I would go for one of the Pixels as they at least has good custom ROM support. If you don't care about custom ROM support then it's up to your preference.

Believe me, custom development is a HUGE factor and I wouldn't go for an old phone.
@bigbaluka I watched a few vids and it seems decent. Like I posted, my buddy has all the tools. We work for Dish Network and he's one of the guys that does screen repair and battery replacement for iPhone and Samsung devices. (Don'tr ask me WHY Dish is doing this....)

I'm not sure I'd replace the 6 for a 6p or a 5X. I got a 5X and it was more for the size, but I can't say it overperforms the 6 plus there are the potential bootloop issues. The Pixel is OK, but you'll be paying up big time and esp if you are not really keen about it, it's a decent chunk of money to drop down. Sounds like you like your 6, I'd just try and replace the battery since it sounds like that's the only issue. It were different if it was a broken screen or something else, but battery I'd just do that.

Yeah, agreed. I did 2 things, found a different USB cable, which looks like it solved the charging problem and switched to Dark Rom which seems to have amazing battery life. I think it'll still drain faster until I get the battery switched, so I must have had a few problems going on; bad cable, deteriorating ROM and battery that doesn't hold a charge like It used to
While my N6 isn't quick as old as yours, I have definitely noticed a lag of late. Taking pictures especially.
And while it might be nowhere near the same class as the N6, I think the Moto G5 Plus might be a good replacement. Sure, the screen size is considerably smaller, it lacks dual front-facing speakers, NFC, etc. but that price! I like the design, and as the kernel source code has already been released, my hope is that the dev community will build some nice roms for this little guy.
We'll see what Motorola does with the true Moto X replacement (not the "Is it a Moto X or is it a Moto E" we are seeing). But that Moto G5 Plus price is hard to ignore.
I just think the Pixel is too expensive. They might solve all of the issues with the release of the Pixel 2, but who wants to spend $1k on a phone?

Lag when starting the camera is a feature of Android from around KitKat or so. The ram that the camera needs is made available for other use, and then the camera has to wait for it to be released.
It makes other apps faster, but the start of the camera significantly shower. You may agree or disagree with that trade-off, but as far as I know, it's the same on all recent phones. Though of course, it matters less if the phone has a lot of ram.
From what I read, the Moto G5 plus has hardware that is approximately as powerful as the N6. So the only way it can have less lag is if its rom is better optimized - and while that may be the case for the stock roms, the N6 has a large community of devs that provide greatly optimized roms.
@runekock - my lag isn't so much when starting the camera as it is when taking a picture. Even with HDR+ turned off, it takes 4-5 seconds for the picture to take. I've had this same experience on stock, and now on PureNexus, which I flashed about five days ago.

There is no lag when using a custom kernel. Try using a kernel different from stock.

Few weeks ago I wasn't able to turn on wifi any more. After factory reset and cache wipe I got it to turn on few times then it died again. I'm suspecting a hw problem. Now that Dark Rom is available for our phone, I might try my luck with that, but I'm not very optimistic.
I really liked this phone a lot. Now I have the option of getting new motherboard for 50€ or new phone (looking at iPhone 6s Plus or 7 Plus cause of that mega battery and brightness, but that price tho.. Was also looking at Pixel but I read it has too many problems + warranty outside my country).
Is Nexus 6 worth fixing (for 50€ + risk of messing something up during repair)?
For 50€ i would take the risk.
Used Nexus 6s still went for over US$100 last time I looked at ebay. If fixing one is $20, that seems a decent investment to me. My battery is about worn out so I will be doing just that soon.
If there are ever charging issues or USB cords falling out, check for lint in the USB port. My first N6 had that issue.
I started having charging issues with my 2 year old shamu a few months ago, getting a new oem charger fixed the problem for me and it's still going strong. I've got a 5x as well, but it doesn't get used much, shamu is a better device.
gonna add my own experience to the mix hoping it would be helpful to some, My N6's battery also started showing signs of a problem few month back after maybe more than a year of usage and it got worse over time. the problem is i cannot get my hand on a new battery anytime soon and i cannot use my N6 as a daily driver as it just dies randomly so i thought i go for the Galaxy S7 since the price was dropped prior to S8 launch and i did, but oh my, going from a heavily developed phone like N6 to S7 is really boring and no fun, might have just got an iphone and it would be just as dull.
so, if you gonna give up your N6 i suggest replace it with another nexus/pixel phone. but if you gonna keep it as a second phone (for whatever reason) then its up to you and your desires and needs, and ofc you cannot forget about the price tag.
Im really thinking about the Essental, its pretty much down to this or G Pixel 2 XL, , but the price point and features of the essential are way better, it looks better too, specwise they are very similiar.
I love Project Fi though , i pay only what use , so if my plan is $60 bucks but i only use $20, i pay $20, thats the thing about the Pixel, but at over a $1000 bucks it looks like the Essential with $60/ unlimited by Sprint is a better deal
Anyone else coming from 6P, ive been a Nitrogen rom guy since day one , i love the 6 p , but once you get the battery bug "25%" , the hardware fails quivkly and its time to move on , this is my second 6P ,
Also switching betweeen Sprint/tmobile/uscellular is really cool, however the best service abd what im on 99% of the time is Sprint anyway, its looking like the Essential is tge one

Well camera is better in 6P and Pixel 2. More features in these phones, there are really no special things at all in essential. Don't get me wrong, i like that. Software is not mature enough, but the Oreo-beta seems Essential are going the right way. Lineage 14.1 is availible and its great. Lineage 15 on the way too. The size of the phone, and the overall quality of it is the best i've ever had! It's a great phone for the price and if price matters, this is a great alternative to pixel 2.
Get the essential phone. No regrats, YOLO swagin here on Oreo and magisk.

I upgraded from the original ones one lineage and this phone is very similar in terms of software but very different, upgraded hardware.
Do you want something that already looks dated (pixel 2 or xl2) or do you want that flashy iPhone X look and save $500+ cash?
It's no brainer when you think about how fash technologies advance. Not worth the price and on top of that the stupid little issues they are having.

I moved from 6P to Essentials over a week ago originally due to the battery bug problem. I was tired of carrying around a battery pack and random phone shutdown at 35% battery. Disclosure, I'm not a techy or an enthusiast so my feedback from just a regular user's perspective. Overall, I'm very happy with the quality and price I paid ($450). I was looking at Pixel 2xl, LG V30 but the design/build with the attractive price point of Essential sealed the deal. The camera is pretty decent. I have no complaints about it. I sideloaded Google camera app and used both Essential and Google apps. I don't find much difference between the two. The pictures from Google app seem to be brighter but Essential app seem quicker to me. Battery is excellent but that's sort of a low bar coming from 6P with battery issue. Software-wise, I'm ok with not being on Oreo it didn't impact my daily use much and overall the softwares on the phones are ok. I think to me this is the best-looking android phones I have ever seen. The build with premium materials and the design look great and feel great in your hands. With the hardware spec not much different from Pixel 2 or LG V30 and the right pricing, I'm willing to compromise somewhat and I was extremely happy with it. Hope this helps.

Same here. Came from a 6P. Did not get the first Pixel because the screen was 5.5 and that was too small for me. Got one of the first essential phones that came out. Had some bugs and they fixed it. Looked into the Pixel XL. Like the larger screen but the price is absurd when you get basically the same with the Essential. Running Oreo beta. No other kids, root or such. Phone works well for me. Camera is adequate for my needs.
Also came from 6P & I freaking love the Essential phone. The build quality is phenomenal and I can get by with the camera. Google didn't do it right to many issues with pixel 2. Go with Essential you won't regret it.
Came from a 6p as my battery was dying at 40% and I bought my phone from best buy instead of google so google could care less that their phone failed me. got the $160 deal on the phone from sprint and liking it so far way better battery camera is decent with the google app and is pretty snappy. the bugs can be annoying but i think it will be good once oreo is out of beta I Hope. really just happy I don't have to carry around my batter pack anymore.

I came from a 6P to and Essential PH-1.
I sent mine back but I was in the first wave of phones with the high price and all the issues.
I have a LG G6 but I'd trade the LG G6 to get a PH-1 again since most of the issues are resolved and accessories are available.
Also at $500 it's the phone bargain of the year.
The feel and form factor are great.
The Quality feels every bit as good as the iPhone X.
Also the XL is bigger and doesn't feel as good. YMMV
Also the XL costs almost double.
Unless the camera is your thing go for the PH-1.
I went 6p to Axon7(great device by the way) to Essential. All were good upgrades over the other. My Essential camera is just as good and really has taken some better pics than either of the devices before it using Gcam. Only thing I miss is the accessories as I'm a case and protector whore.

Two 6P's and a Moto X developer phone also. Essential phone is now my daily driver with absolutely no regrets. I'm using Verizon's networkdue to location. Only reasons not to get this would be if you have to have Fi, or have to have headsets. Super quality build, camera on 6P is slightly better, screen is worse on the 6P. For size, imagine that just the screen on the 6P is the size of the whole phone. Battery is so much better. Underwhelmed by the overpriced new Pixels.
Sprint has you sign up never telling you they dont have the goddamn device in stock, they wait til you order it , then send an email that says were sorry its back ordered tough **** asshole , wont have any til christmas, but we are still charging you fees and the overnight shipping and anything else, thats piss poor
I canceled and gave my opinion of the way Sprint is f ucking people , they never mention anywhere that they dont have the phone instock and encourage you to use overnight shipping if you do it before 2 pm for $10 bucks, once you sign up, they send an email and blame the manufacturers of not having enough devices, if this was a first run fone id say ok , this fone came out in august, uts your fwult Sprint and lying to public is bull****
i have some experience of what you have so let me give my 2 cents.
i came from HTC M9 and Moto X Pure on Sprint. i still have my SERO-P Plan but instead i dont lease phones (because they make me switch my plan). I bought the Essential phone in the end of Oct. at best buy and im quite happy with it compared to the other two. At first, i had to return it because it would not activate on sprint and we couldnt figure out why. so i returned it and got another one. the other one turns out though was slippery like glass and overheated so i returned it... then after reading the XDA forums i noticed there is a heavier weight on the new ones so we weighed it before i took it. the new one is actually much more grippy than the last even with dry hands.
what i love about it:
first... the battery life. easily the best in battery life. i get 5 to 6 hours on a normal day of on screen time
fast android updates. the newest updates you have to take out your sprint sim, put a gsm sim and from there it will take the updates

internet speed is pretty good too, thought gigabit speed is a hard time of getting actual confirmation from them. ive received on a few occasions 70+ mbps in my small town where ive gotten 30 last time with m9 and x pure.
the look is amazing and pure android is the icing on the cake.
bad things are:
camera is been improved since ive gotten it but still needs work. the issue ive experienced is the graininess.
sometimes i miss calls and texts (not sure if its sprint or the phone itself) but what i noticed is its pretty good compared to the m9 as far as bars go. the x pure was better in signal but it never got the speeds i got from this phone.
usb-c dongle but there is a 3.5mm mod coming for the phone soon from what i heard
response could be improved a bit
overall i will say go for it. despite the negative review... i still give it a 4.5 out of 5 because its andy rubin who knows how to tweak android anyway he feels like it and so far they did alot of improvement with just software updates. do a speed test with your 6p and essential and see for yourself. post a video if you can
Well im still up in the air , im not gonna use Sprint , i dont like being lied to, you dont start a relationship with a lie it never ends well, that being said, i dig the Essential and it is unkocked, just wish Fi would accept it, im also looking at the Pixel 2 XL and the Razer , seen another flagship killer called the Blackview S8 and id jusmp for a samsung S8+ , if the bl.was unlocked , i wont ever buy a locked boot loader unless it can be unlocked , thanks for the review that was what i wanted
I came for the 6P as well and I have no regrets. I do miss the camera on the 6P but I tend to still carry it around for the camera and mess with the os with new roms.
With the gcam port the essential takes some good shots.

@gman2pi or anyone on Verizon's network. how is the data speed and connectivity? My 6P has been having the shutdown issue at 50% and i missed emergency calls text today.
Was so frustrated that I ordered a battery tried to replace it and broke the damn phone and need one ASAP.
My concern has been the thread with the connectivity issues that the phone is having and slow data speeds.

I've had no issues and get the same bar strength and performance as my 6P in my usual locations. I only use phone, text, and primarily e-mail and some downloads on their network. I don't stream much on cellular and don't use Verizon visual voicemail or their other "special features" so can't comment on that.

Now I'm kind of salty because i got an email from best buy where i could have gotten one with the camera for $500 and i did not pull the trigger.
Came from og pixel, earpiece speaker blew, then went back to my nexus 6.. then this.. battery life is insane..on verizon signal seems great though i have missed some calls.. not sure why.. but great build quality.. no regrets

Currently have a 6P that I replaced the battery on. I am ordering the pixel 2 xl. It's a lot more money, but the video stabilization is so bad on the essential I couldn't buy it.
