Nexuses 6P - 5X are out. What are your thoughts vs. N6? - Nexus 6 General

As we all know, the new Nexus is out, what are your thoughts about it? Who is moving from the Nexus 6? Who is staying, and why?

So.. Upgrade / Downgrade?

6P is nice, but the price is really too high in Italy. Starting from 699€, definitely keeping my N6

I'm probably pretty biased as I just purchased my Motorola Nexus 6 a few months ago and I absolutely love it but I can't really see myself upgrading to either of these phones. The lack of wireless charging, and ois seem like something of a downgrade. After having adjusted to the size of this phone I also can't see myself going back to a smaller screened device. I really do like the design of the newer phones and I think the feel in hand will be wonderful considering the 6P's metal construction but there's just not enough there to warrant an upgrade in my case. I may have been swayed if there was a microsd slot on the 6P but there isn't unfortunately. I've also come to really enjoy the convenience of wireless charging without a case so it would be tough for me to give that up.

5x over 6 is downgrade.
6p is a tiny upgrade just for photography

I'm going to stay as it is not offered through carriers. That's way to much for me to fork upfront on my current budget.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app

Doesn't seem like much of an upgrade really. In fact, other than the 810 it actually seems like a downgrade.

Downgrade imo...The Nexus 6 is ahead of it's time. 1 year later and it still is one of the best devices out. of course I just got mine so I might be a little biased.

Only thing I really want is the USB type C connector

Those complaining about the size of the N6 can shut up now and buy the 5xx.

Looking at the 6P vs 6, at the current price point of $370 vs $583 USD (in CA), I will:
- keep the extra $200 in my pocket
- give up 32-bits that no app uses
- get 15 minutes less of SOT, admittedly
- avoid the 810 mess (2.1 does seem to work, though it doesn't unleash the full power of what an octa core should do)
- charge wirelessly
- use my gazillion micro USB cables without a USB c adapter
- avoid a misplaced fingerprint sensor (hello, it should be on the front, Apple - for all its faults - does do human factors research)
- receive calls in areas where Moto radios work, but nothing else does.
Grumpy waiting for 820, I fully admit it.

I bought the nexus 6 about 4 days ago from amazon. Ive already fallen in love again with the Nexus Brand. My last phone was a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon. I still have verizon but am about to subscribe to Project Fi. The past few years ive been using locked-up phones, 2 of which had been unlocked by the folks on XDA (g2, g3). Coming from a Note 4 (which is a nice phone. but I miss custom roms and root) the nexus 6 is wonderful.
Im not salty about the new Nexus phones - I move between phones often lately and Ill probably end up with the Nexus 6p eventually. Ill happily use the Nexus 6 for a while until the price comes down.

Don't see where innovation is and don't see really any improvement over current nexus 6 that makes me wanna go out and buy either phone ...actually disappointed and hoped the rumor mill was wrong with these phones ....well there my ¢.3

The only thing new/better is the fingerprint scanner. Apple cheated Motorola out of the technology (go look it up if you don't believe it). N6 was suppose to have one but business got in the way.
Frankly, I would not downgrade to an LCD. Did so 2 times and always regretted it.

I think both are horrible really. They look ugly as hell and other than a slightly faster CPU its more of a down grade. No wireless charging and no OIS what is google thinking here Even the camera is pretty much the same as the Nexus 6.

Not sure how I feel about the location of the fingerprint scanner.
My hands are large, so using the scanner in the front with one hand isn't a problem, but no matter how I hold the phone, my index finger is always in the dimple on the back with the Motorola logo.

I got the Nexus 6 about 2 weeks ago from Amazon. I paid $289 shipped for the 32GB version. Brand new you can't beat that. I will keep The Nexus 6 for at least another year.

I'm holding out on the nexus this year .. I have my planned 2 year cycle anyways since i dont see a need to upgrade every year ..Nexus 4 > nexus 6 > and then next year ill get the new one.. I personally got deterred with the lack of wireless charging .. I use it on the daily and am invested in the technology.

My Motorola N6 is the only phone I've had that doesn't drop calls. I'm going to wait till Motorola comes out with a Qualcomm 820 and then I'm going to trade it in. My N6 keeps me happy every day so far so why I should I dump it for a one that has no better reception.

I'm staying with my N6, just purchased the N6 and I'm very happy with everything I've thrown at it.

That's why I like the location. Always felt awkward when trying to unlock my phone one handed with it down there.

If the rumours are true, will be getting the next Nexus phone?

For those that might not know the rumours, it has been said that the next Nexus phones (yes 2) will be an LG 5.2" 808 soc, and a Huawei 5.7" 810 soc this coming fall. Will you be "upgrading" to one of these if the rumours hold true?
I'm seriously considering keeping my N6 for another 1 1/2 years. I don't see anything compelling with those 2 offerings. And for now I can't see myself using a smaller phone. To me, the N6 has enough horsepower to keep me happy for a while. Then again, I said I wasn't going to get an N6. But my N5 crapped out, so at least I had an excuse.

I doubt the 810 will be used for the Nexus 6 (2015) with its heat and throttling problems, i guess and hope they will go for its successor. That said i`am super happy with my N6 and i have no idea if i will even upgrade unless there is a major update hardware wise. Aah well, we`ll see i gues.
Nexus 6 is just holding me over for the next huawei device.
Huawei nexus or new ascend mate 7
And probably a lg g4 at some point after the hype.

I would like a fingerprint sensor and if there is a Nexus on Verizon with a fingerprint sensor, I am getting it.
I'll be keeping mine until the 2016 Nexus line up, however, I'll buy my g/f one of the new Nexus phones later this year (she has a Nexus 5)!

do what i do and take the selfish route, give her your n6 and buy one of the new ones for yourself lol, my gf isn't a techy like me but she is happy for me when I get a new toy.
if the rumors are true, the i wont be getting another nexus phone, but rather something else with at least 6 inch screen. why would i want to reduce my real-estate after having this huge screen?
People missing big pic painted by Google this last 6 months. 2 phones??? Maybe only one nexus like always but because of Project FI I would guess Google is going to sell about 5 different phone by this time next year. You have to have something for everyone.
If Motorola makes one 99% chanse I buy (and there has been small amount of talk Motorola is talking to Google) LG maybe Huawei maybe Samsung not even (don't like Apple don't need I wish I was an iPhone phone)
The Nexus 5 refresh from LG doesn't really interest me as much as the refreshed Nexus 6 from Huawei. The Snapdragon 810 is cause for some concern along with the smaller display. I have no complaints with the Nexus 6 screen size but I am fairly sure Huawei will use a higher quality diplay with better brightness and color saturation by comparison.
I'm perfectly happy with my nexus 6. I'll be keeping it no matter what comes out next. I definitely wouldn't settle for a smaller phone.

If there is a finger print sensor and USB c I may take the plunge. If not I'd keep the nexus 6. I would be on the nexus 5 now if I could get LTE functioning properly on AT&t
Would ARA phones be out around the release times of the Nexus phones?
Man I had my Nexus 4 for about 2yrs then I upgrade to this whale of a phone and I can't be any happier with it. With the N6 I feel like I finally have a phone that fits perfect in my big hands, lol
Sent from my Nexus 6
I might, but then again I just bought a S6, lol. I would be more inclined if the rumored fingerprint scanner is there. Its such a nice security feature (encrypt with long password, fingerprint for phone access, again for access to certain apps) that is still easy to use.

Sure, Ill try them both out.
I rather have a 6 inch screen. 5.2 is too small. 5.7 is OK if there are no alternatives...
Would we expect to see a new Nexus 6" er for several more years?
Might spring for the 5.7" option if it also includes at least a 128GB storage option and/or external SD card. The fingerprint scanner would be great as well, but not a deal-breaker if not included.

Fingerprint scanners are perfectly useless for anyone who actually uses their hands for anything besides wanking, because your fingers won't scan the same one day to the next.

Nexus 6P vs. Moto X Pure

The price is only about $100 more given you keep storage options about the same.
The only downside I see to the Nexus 6P is no SD slot and it costs more. I originally wanted the Moto X since it was affordable, has SD storage and was 5.7inches. The Nexus seems to be a better option with the only downside being no SD storage and it's a bit more expensive, although in my opinion AMOLED is a better screen choice than LCD so the Nexus has that going for it too, and a bigger battery....... Here is what I "think" I know after watching the event.
Nexus 6P
Pros:
USB-C
Larger battery 3450mah vs 3000 mah on the X
Faster software updates
Marshmallow preinstalled
AMOLED screen
Cons:
A little more expensive
no SD card slot.
Moto X Pure(Style)
Pros:
Cheaper
SD Card Slot
Cons:
LCD screen as opposed to AMOLED
Smaller battery 3000mah vs 3450mah
micro USB vs USB-C
Is anyone else struggling with this?
I was struggling until about 3 minutes ago when I ordered a 128GB graphite 6P. I'm honestly still not convinced I actually need to upgrade from my current Nexus 6. Heck I was even going to hold out hope that there might be a DROID with a fat battery and unlockable bootloaders. I love Motorola and their signal is amazing and I'm hoping this is comparable. This will be my 3rd Nexus and my current one is my 4th Motorola. Neither have done me wrong so far. I wish it had a wireless charger but I guess turbo charging is making that obsolete and I have to accept it. Ultimately I said screw it and ordered one. But I used the amex just in case lol.

From my experience, only amoleds used on samsung flagships are the best. When other manufacturers use amoled, samsung never gives them the top of the line amoled, that's why I believe is best for other manufacturers to go with lcd. Hopefully this amoled is power efficient and has good colors/angels etc.

I think the nexus 5x would be a better comparison.
Big con for the Moto X Pure(Style), for me is they do not sell it in Canada.
I was on the fence between Moto X Pure, iPhone 6s Plus and Nexus 6p.
Moto X Pure lacks accessories. Almost nothing projected from major case manufacturers.
iPhone 6s Plus on IOS9 has no jailbreak, which means no tethering for me since I have Verizon Unlimited.
Nexus 6p like the iPhone gets dinged for no removable storage, but offer 128GB, which I can live with.
I bought a graphite Nexus 6p.

No fingerprint scanner on the motox right?
I already own a 64gb, black leather, red accented Moto X Pure, so I'm now debating on selling it and buying the Nexus 6P. Biggest reason why, development on XDA. I'm worried the 6p will over shadow the MXP and fewer developers will put time into releasing roms/mods for the MXP.
I'd love to hear feedback from those that do create roms and extra features for devices. I have no other complaints for the MXP, just fear of its support dying very early.

I am saying there is lots of hype for development on nexus devices, but since nexus 4, there hasn't been much going on. The days when Paranoid Android team was developing and Moles was with them used to be great. From what I recall a few other teams developed last year, but they didn't bring nothing new.

My pure is going back to Motorola. Plenty of complaints to read on their forums. OPO until my big P comes in.
I like the XPE but in returning mine as well. The only minus to the 6P is the sd slot and some of the moto features but I gain amoled (which is important to me coming from a note 3), bigger battery, fingerprint scanner and notification led! Also price wise isn't much difference when configured similarly. My XPE with 32gb and wood back was $503 shipped. The 64gb 6P was $583, what I get for the price difference is worth it in my book.
The XPE is a good phone but it's just not the phone for me. As someone else said, the development for the 6p will be huge in comparison to the Motorola. Spigen isn't making any cases for the XPE and neither are many accessory makers. I think the 6P will get all the love I'd hoped the Motorola would get so back it goes!
Avoid Moto, their customer service sucks, it's awful experience dealing with them..

Who's returning the Pure for the 6P/5X?

I'm torn right now. I want a bigger battery and the camera on the 6P seems better. But I really like Moto Display and Moto assist.
Mine is going back.
Development is going to be far superior on the Nexus. This is huge just by itself.
Amoled screen
Finger print is nice with lastpass and bank apps
Only $50 more with the play credit
Fast updates which with Leno gutting Moto no telling what will come
I'm not happy with the performance or the battery life on the Pure
Nexus has a larger battery and is tweaked for M
Camera is reported to be better on the Nexus than the pure
Better performance on the GPU and heat issues are a non factor
https://www.androidpit.com/snapdragon-810-vs-808-is-8-cores-really-better-than-6
So for $50 why exactly am I going to settle for the Pure? I won't.
I think if the Pure had come out a few months ago things might be a little different. They waited too long and the Nexus is just a better device. Add to that the shipping issues and pushing people's 14 days into the nexus announcement and well you get what you get. I'm glad mine took so long to ship now. I'm not getting stuck holding this turkey when everyone in 3 months is still asking where their Roms and updates are.
Going back, either getting a Nexus 6 64GB for $340 plus tax and saving $155 (32gb, wood back, sd card...all three total $495 plus tax) or spending an extra $5 for a 32 GB Nexus 6P
also lucked out that my phone shipped on the 15th so today is day 14
That's what she said.
I am struggling to see how to justify the extra $100 dollars for the 6p when the xpe beats it in several different areas. And people really shouldn't talk crap about the camera on the 6p because its also speculative at this point. But we already know the camera on the xpe is getting stellar reviews.
Sent from my XT1575 using XDA Free mobile app
Only why I'm even considering the nexus 6P is because of the amoled and battery size. Other than dont care for the other features including the fingerprint. Definitely like the looks of the moto x better. Still deciding. Hmmm
Keeping my Mxp. That phone is ugly with the camera hump. I don't really care about the fingerprint scanner. Camera on my Mxp is good enough for my needs. The form factor on the Mxp is great, it is the perfect size. The Nexus 6P looks as big as the Nexus 6. Coming from a Nexus 6, I don't want a form factor like that anymore. With the sd card slot, I haven't streamed any media or music on the Mxp and that saves on a lot of data. Battery life is ok, but with the quick charger it is a non-issue.
Anybody know how much the uk 6p will retail for? I'm going to return mine when it eventually arrives
Just found out that CA residents have up to 30 days for return! Not that I want to... I like the look and my design of the MXPE, but the battery is disappointing somehow... still deciding.

If the nexus 6P ends up being sold at best buy then my decision changes again lol.
I was considering the pure but I see there is no roms yet. Seems a bit behind compared to the new moto g. The 6p will probably be my next device IF I can finance it through T-Mobile.
my 30 day return period is up like Oct 25 from Amazon... and I'm hearing the nexus phones aren't even shipping until November? yeah, i think I'll hang on to this bad boy for a bit, and wait to read reviews on the 6p with that steamy hot 810 in it, and who knows about huwai build quality or who's screen they use... if it's not samsung amoled, or its like previous gen samsung amoled like Motorola used to get, then no thanks, I'd rather have this LCD.
if i end up wanting it, I'll just get it and either sell the moto or hang on to it who knows.

Already pre-ordered 6P. Some of Moto's features that set the XPE apart are now coming to both Nexuses (quick camera access, wake up when picking it up). I can't even get 3 hours SOT with the XPE. :-/ I'm also thinking of N and O releases. My X1 just got 5.1. And the nexus will have ROM support long after that. Sorry Moto, I'm outta here.

I don't trust the Huawei brand, and since the NX5 is limited to 32gb, I'm keeping the MXP. Sure, it won't have the development that nexus devices do, but I'm confident we'll see enough to keep me happy.
I'm keeping my Moto X, looks better, does everything I want, cheaper... If I change my mind down the road we will see but they packed almsot the same stuff in a larger form factor. Who knows how it will preform either. Also if you watch the 5X hands on from android athority it sure looked like it was having mis touch issues like the G4 has... I really hope it was because he missed the screen looking through his camera cuz that is what led me to ditch the G4 and if it moved to the nexus device... watch out! At least patches will be quicker.
6P:
Pros over the X:
-Finger print reader
-USB Type C
-All metal design
-Faster
-maybe a better camera (wait for reviews)
-Quick updates from google for years to come
-Better development
-Battery is bigger and already has android M
-AMOLED (bright, battery saving
Cons:
-Larger
-huge bezels
-All metal design (yes I added it also as a con because it could get very hot and get scratches/dings easy)
-Weird black bump thing
-Unproven manufacturer
-Cost a bit more (not too bad)
-AMOLED (BURN INNNNNNNSSSSSSSS)
-No wireless charging
Moto X:
Pros:
-Cheaper
-More customization from Moto maker
-Possible faster charger
-LCD (yes I like LCD over AMOBURNIN )
-Gestures to launch camera and flashlight already have me hooked
-Simmer bezels
-Already in my hand no waiting
-Proven front facing speakers that work well
-some water proofing
Cons:
-No wireless charging
-No fingerprint reader
-LCD has horrible blacks, even compared to the G4 :-/
That's all I have. I would like to reserve full judgement until I see this thing in real life and maybe I will jump, but for now I'm happy
Now that I have my pure in I can say 100% it's going back. My opo is better and I'd keep it over the pure. I can't get over how bad battery life is using chrome or maps. The build quality also feels cheap and I see lots of micro lag that I didn't see as much even in the opo. I'm very disappointed in the pure.
Going back to Motorola and waiting on the nexus p.

Will you be buying the new pixel phones based on the leaked specs and price?

I know many people are disappointed with the rumours until now.
But I'm curious how many of you are still buying regardless.
If the price is true, $650 for the smaller and lowest specs, this will be the first Google phone I'll not buy.
I will probably buy the XL. I am going to try out Project Fi, and I am going to assume that the Pixels will support Fi.
There is really no other phone that interests me. Been down the Galaxy road, had a Note, Nokia, Moto, etc. But one phone I have, strangely, never used was HTC. Going to jump in, try Fi, and if it works for my area, I'll dump Big Red and get my family onto Nexus/Pixel phones.
I'm not a spec whore, so based on what I've seen so far, I'm in.
And get rid of this freaking iPhone I have now.

I've got a Nexus 6 at the moment. I had been waiting to get a Nexus 2016.
Unfortunately I think the price of this is going to rule it out for me.
Buying a Pixel XL no matter what, as long as the 128Gb version is less than $900.

The phone specs aren't worth $900 or even $800.
the price is damn high , maybe will consider buy a boom 7
They lost me at 5.5" screen and dropping the front facing stereo speakers.
I never let price decide anything for me but the above 2 just killed it completely for me no matter how cheap or expensive the device may or may not be.
Id be happier with another 6P likely lol

I was almost leaning towards the Pixel XL when the rumor was still ~$600, because I actually would have liked something closer to a phablet. That, and the fact that AT&T is supposedly going to offer it on the Next program, made it attractive. At closer $800-$900, though, they can keep it.
I'm still somewhat interested in the Pixel, as it would make a nice upgrade to my M8, but at the rumored price I'm going to be taking a wait and see attitude. I did pay nearly that for my M8 two years ago, which would mean my phone bill wouldn't move too much. However, it's not the sure thing it would have been at a more reasonable price.
Based on specs so far I like it. But if it's the same price as a note 7 or iPhone 7 then I will probably pass.
If pixel xl 128 gb is for $650 - $750 yes then y not as per the leaks pixel xl will be 5.5 qhd screen snapdragon 821 and 4gb ram with ip53 Yes not bad i think so there should be only 64 and 128gb who buys a 32gb phone these days.

To clarify, I voted based on reading the thread title, which includes the words "based on leaked specs and price." After looking at the actual poll, it only asks "will you buy the Pixel?" I voted no based on what I thought this was asking, but yes, I am buying a pixel, just not based on the leaked specs and price.
6gigs of RAM would have helped, given the pricing. I'm really hoping their implementation of VR is going to completely nail it and take it to a whole new level. Hoping they give you their Daydream VR headgear as part of buying a PixelXL...can't wait any longer for the 4th!
It needs to be 128 snapdragon 821, better image stabilizer, and on T-Mobile carrier so I can just jump to it. I have jump 1.0
To date the largest top and bottom bezels are on phones that have front facing speakers like the HTC phones and the 6p.....but the pixels phone bezels in the latest leaked images look like the bezels are even larger than those phones and they don't even have front facing speakers. Doesn't make sense. Not to mention...not having ffs is a major loss.
I also dont think the camera will be much better than the 6p...... especially if they don't add OIS. Top tier phones nowadays need to also have optical zoom like the iPhone 7.
Additionally the 4 gigs of ram is an improvement but with the same size battery as the 6p....even though the screen is slightly smaller....it may not have better battery life than the 6p.

Yeah, the more that leaks, the more it feels like Google is going to try the equivalent of selling a Chevy at Cadillac prices.

Yeah how exactly is it that asus stuffs an 821 in the zenfone 3 deluxe which is already out and google who is launching later only runs the 820?
And not that i honestly care about 4 or 6g of ram but for what they are going to expect people to pay it ought to be 6.

V20 has a removable battery and sd card slot plus a bigger screen which is all good.
What is bad is LG is notorious for locking the bootloaders depending on which model you get and development will almost surely be better on the pixel.

Anybody have experience with the 6p and moto X Pure

My note 7 is recalled onece again so I'm looking for an interim replacement that won't break the bank in the interim until the next note comes out.
With that being said. I'm familiar with the Hardware differences between the 2, and some of the software tweaks. I can get a New 64gig MXP for 360.00 or I'm looking for a 64 gig 6p around 450-500 for a new one. Used around about 50-75.00 less. With that being said, this device will get passed along to a family member. So any advice would be appreciated. From what I read the mxp will get nougat some time this year and probably will be the last one for it.
Thanks in advance.

That's a tough call. Despite the greater specs on the 6p, I really can't tell a performance difference, but that might change as software gets more demanding. The 6p's camera is way better. Most would agree the Motorola's look and feel is better on the outside and the slightly smaller size is more comfortable to hold.

Hi have had both, had to return my x pure twice for screen defeats.
But as it relates to both, the pure feels much better in the hand, the performance difference is somewhat noticeable, but not night and day between it and the 6p.
The pure has sd card storage
Plus moto display, is the single best feature on any phone imo, you don't realize how great it is until you are not using it
Good camera, comparable to most top flight camera in good lighting, a joke of a camera in poor lighting.
6p
Pros
Finger print scanner
AMOLED screen
Faster updates.
Better camera.
Cons
Too big, other manufacturers manage to put a similar screen in a smaller body.
No sd card
Build on Janerd's response:
Moto X Pros:
Way smaller in hand
Screen is way brighter
Screen is much more visible with polarized sunglasses
Speakers are richer
Moto actions
Better camera app (way more one-hand-able based off of the UI)
Cons:
Even though they both have the same amount of ram, the Moto dumps its cache way more frequently. Chrome tabs reloaded ALL THE TIME.
It's noticeably slower than the SD 810.
In my eyes, if the X had been released with the SD810, or even the SD805, it would have been near flawless.

You can check Amazon warehouse deals for both those phones, I picked up my nexus 6p 64gb for 340 back in July. I have had both and that SD 808 is a weak spot on the mxpe. Still a good value though. I'll be sticking with my nexus 6p for the time being.

Had x style three times. Great phone. But different between x pure is void guarantee after unlock bootloader. Anyway speed, smooth, energomy, speakers is fantastic. I change it for Nexus second time because i love Nexus and outstanding xda community
