It's so useless and overpriced. Just get a good quality windows tablet so you can have an actual full computer. Expand the storage, multi-task, install older REAL games from steam.

Personally, that's not why I use a table. And I have a laptop for full computer needs. Table suits my needs for what I use it to do. I'm wondering why they didn't offer a 128GB model.

Long as you know what I meant. I do a bit more than that, but to each their own. Use what suits you .
The money it costs to get one of these, you could get a nice-ish laptop... Seems like a waste of money in my opinion, but I understand people like to just pick up a thin, light tablet and lie in bed with it and watch things without worrying about the weight, fans, etc of a laptop. Hmmmm. Maybe you can pick up one for about $300 on ebay in a year or two...
32GB is not enough space.

It's a Google device so you are guaranteed by high development and in many custom roms split screen and background multitasking is implented.
Don't worry this device will be amazing.
Chromebook Pixel and Chromebook Pixel 2 are two very high end devices.
Now they finally made it to Android were there is not much high end tablets available.
This one will be a innovation and will start a new market where Android tablets can perform like an office laptop ( not pc gaming ofc ) while it still profits all the amazing android original tablet purposes
So, I paid almost that much for my Note 10.1 when released, but I don't think I'll go for another expensive Android tablet. The price is getting close to Surface Pro range.

Those are two different kinds of products though. Those who buy Pixel C are not the kind of people who would be interested to Surface Pro.
I bought the Note 10.1 too, *exactly* because I didn't want another laptop and the "desktop experience". If I want the desktop experience that is also very portable I buy an Ultrabook, it's cheaper than Surface pro and easier to use for "Desktop experience"...

What do you guys think? Will a 7' screen be enough? If I got one I would get wifi only so I can tether with my Epic. I wish it was SAMOLED.
Personally, I think a 7' screen is a bit overkill for a mobile device. That's just me though.
Sorry, couldn't resist.

Yeah, it doesn't seem like the tab has anything on the epic at all other than screen size. It seems like a very introductory product that won't be anywhere near the level of the iPad (as much as I hate to say it). I'm sure if we give it another year there will be one that's better than the iPad.
personally, i am a "pocket guy" when it comes to phones. i dont do clips. the Epic is about as big as I'd get and still be able to pocket the sucker.
i just dont get devices like the Tab or the dell streak or whatever hitting that 5-7 inch mark and still marketing it as mobile as a phone. i feel like they're trying to copy apple and invent a new product, the ipad was a risk but its paying off, i feel like these other companies would do better to directly copy the ipad and make an even larger device like 9-10 inches, a true tablet. i'm not digging the phone/tablet crossovers, to me its too big to be a phone and too small to be a tablet and get FULL web browsing capability.
just my .02
If the wifi-only version price really is $500 that'll torpedo it right there considering the base wifi-only iPad is the same price. I love my Epic, but if I had to choose between those 2 I'd get the iPad. Put the wifi-only version of the Galaxy tab at $350 and then it makes more sense IMO.

But you wouldn't have access to all the paid apps on the android market that you purchased if you chose the ipad.
And the modding possibilities!
The Tab also lasts longer than a epic..battery wise. Its a great home multitasking utility. I would def use it as a ereader/movie player as well as automating some tasks in my home.

Regardless, if that's what you're looking for, the iPad is MUCH better. I'm a huge fan of Android & I dislike Apple but the tab is really the iPad's little brother. It just doesn't compare.

That doesn't make any sense. The Galaxy Tab is nothing like the iPad. If you wanna compare things compare the iPad to every other tablet that came before it. Comparing the Galaxy Tab is like comparing it to the Blackberry Playbook.

actuallu thinking about it it would make one hell of an xbmc remote...
The Galaxy tab costs 600 dollars so no, it will probably fail.
Eh... if I were to get a tablet, it would probably be an iPad. I have android on my phone. I don't need a replicated device on a larger screen. I'd also have more games to play on the iPad which would be fun
So I told myself, "Self what I really want for this Christmas is an Android tablet".
Now I would like to know which Android tablet you people are planning to get by Christmas. I know tablets are gonna be the top thing to get then so I could see competition stepping up. I'm gonna want a wifi only one with the option to tether my Vibrant to it (yes Im planning to still have at least one of my Vibrants by then). I know the Ipad2 and the HP pad seem a lil ahead of the game compared to the Android tablets but I'm sticking to Android cuz I want to have the freedom to customize it like I did this Vibrant. Do not reply if your NOT getting an Android tablet please.
So which Android tablet are you getting and why?

Funny you ask, I've only ordered mine (a first for me and a new one too) from Ebay just a couple days before. Aaaaaand it's a ViewSonic G tablet.
Why you ask? Well for 3 main reasons; The 10.1 inch screen, the Unmatched Dev community it flashes (only 2nd to the 7" Galaxy tab) and the great price....Im getting this for as low as 250$ with a 16gb sd and a screen protector. Couldnt have asked for a better really.
Oh and did I mention the rush of a flashmania circling through my system since I received shipping details, CRAAAAZY
If I get one it's probably going to be the asus eepad or the acer iconia, just because they're the cheapest 10" honeycomb tablets. I'm still hoping for touchpads to come back in stock though........

Outside of watching video on Netflix in bed because I don't want to move my XB360 into the bedroom, I don't see a reason to even look at a tablet, TBH. They're overhyped devices that don't offer much more than Smartphones in a more restrictive form-factor. That's the only reason I'm thinking about it, and that's why the crappy 1st gen Samsung Tab would be more than good enough for me.

I love my A500, but I always thought it to be as mediocre as mediocre can get. This surprises me.
I guess I really couldn't care less where this tablet lies versus others with any awards or recognition per se.
I didn't get as good a price as most did especially over the Black Friday period but when I bought it a month ago, I didn't feel the need to go any further with what else was available on the market as the return period approached.
Regardless of the price, it has performed flawlessly so far and I'm happy with its features. That's a winner in my books!

what's considered non-mediocre to you? Ipad2 is the #1 selling tablet, yet its specs still come up short when compared to A500 (namely 512MB ram vs 1GB ram). Acer A500 has all the capabilities/features that other top selling tablets have if not more.
The full size USB port was a huge plus for me. I store most of my movies on my external drive. It essentially made my tablet 532gb
I didn't see other tablets with such high reviews, moderate price, and sufficient features to sway me otherwise.

I don't understand why people think less of this tablet compared to other "mainstream" tablets.
It rocks, It's Capable, Great screen (although slightly washed out compared to some i've seen, esp the iPad), AND it has a USB port.
With that said, It's heavy, Kinda ugly, thick, the build quality could be better, and the camera sucks. But i'm not complaining since it was so cheap, I can buy a new one next year with the savings over a xoom or GalaxyTab.
The I pad has never and will never sell on specs alone. They sell image and the Apple ecosystem Discussing specs and Apple is like discussing the new Toyota Camry with a sports car fan. It goes 0-60 in 6.something seconds, but nobody cares because it's a Camry. That's leaving out the whole OS requirements discussion.
FYI, I had the Transformer Prime in mind when I think non-mediocre.
I want to buy a Acer Iconia a500, I used one once that was bricked, I managed to fix it, there is even a guide I made of how to do it, however I didn't use the tablet when I fixed it, for that, I want to know how it performs and if it's good today.
Thanks for all.
That's a tough question to ask a year and almost 1/2 from the initial release. It is still a good device to own, BUT I personally would look at the alternatives in terms of purchasing it at this point.
There's no way I would go out and buy another Acer Iconia A500, is what I'm saying. There are several devices with more powerful processors and better screens out now that are selling for the same price as an Iconia A500 commercially. That being said, you'd have to be looking for something awfully specific to choose it over something "better" and the only thing that comes to mind that differentiates it from the others is a built in USB port.
I <3 the usb port. It's too bad the A510 and A700 don't have it. I agree with Neoprimal, though. If you want a tablet, I would look at something like the transformer infinity or if you feel like it, you could wait for the Nexus 10, but that might take a while...
Alright guys, then I will save money for better high-end tablet, but really I would like to wait little more till Windows 8 tablets go out, so I will test them and choose between Android or Windows 8 even though I cannot compare a full OS with Android but let's see...
My A500 is my work tablet. I use it for the databases I use on the job. I also use it to offload pictures from my camera between shoots. And, with the 64gb micro-sdxc card, I have a ton of movies, music, and TV shows stored. It's a solid, reliable, versatile tablet.
I also have a Nexus 7. The Tegra 3 system is fast and Jelly Bean is great... but it's more of a toy than a serious tablet.
The microsoft surface will be pretty interesting. Depending on the price tag, it has a lot of potential.

It comes down to price - I snagged my current 501 for one hundred dollars, so to me it was a great deal for even a year old tablet. I would say the a500 is probably good value at 250 US, but nothing more.

I also would look somewhere else. Personally I would go for the Nexus 7 at this point if I were in the market, precisely because its more of a toy. I used to use my tablet for work (the USB port and big screen are great and I've seriously dropped it a few times with minimal damage) however, now I've switched to using my phone for notes and todos and I have less need for these things. So I know what you mean about the A500 being good for work but I want a toy (development, screen size, nexus name)

About a year ago it was a great tablet, but there are so many more options out that are better for the price. cowboom has them for $200 used. I have one that i got from them almost 7 months ago and i love the damn thing. I love the fact that it has a full usb port so i can plug in my wireless mouse and keyboard. I love the fact the there is a flash for the main camera. And it looks pretty damn good.
There is also a good amount of development for it.

I bought the Dock of My Atrix (Including Moto Keyboard, Mouse, Multimedia, 18W Charger, and more Etc...) so I can plug USB HDD and other things I like to use plus I can use the BT devices for futures devices I buy.
Also I will wait a little longer, I'm not going to buy a Nexus 7, since in 2013 I'm going to university (College) and I would not like to use a laptop but who knows if I change my opinion...
(Off-Topic) Today I looked at my Join Date and I knew that I already can sell and buy things in the Marketplace ^^

Indeed. The ipad is a different tablet altogether, particularly if you are looking for a reliable, curated ecosystem. On the other hand, the Android tablets are great fun to play around and customize to your hearts content, as long as you are willing to read blogs/sites, make backups, etc. Personally, it's a hobby so I enjoy it. However for my parents, it's an iPad no question.

I bought one today for $125. Pretty good tablet, but I wouldn't spend more than what I did for it. Probably gonna load it up with games and books and give it to my son.
I adored my a500 last summer when I first got it, but I noticed it gets a bit wonky after about a year of use. I use mine daily. Reading, games, email, surfing, etc. Luckily I was able to exchange for a new one and that froze on startup screen after a month. It was "gently used" . I am wondering if I have bad tablet luck or the tab just konks out after a period of time for whatever reason.
I now have another "gently used" one while they are trying to fix my old one that froze on startup screen.
It seems to be working well.
I am considering the Nexus 7. I love the camera in my a500 and ability for SD card and installing my USB keyboard.
Guess I gotta make the good ol' pro's and con's list huh?

I use both my A500 and my Nexus 7 daily. The Iconia, I've had about a year and a half, and it's been trouble-free. No idea why you seem to be having a string of problems with them. The Nexus 7 is a look at what the next-gen Android tablets will be. They literally make the iPad look silly.
I bought a password locked A500 for $155 on Ebay. If you find something for that price go for it. A ten inch name brand tablet is a great steal for that price. Plus the development community is great, with Jellybean in the works. Plus it has over clocking, which this tablet already out performs my expectations especially being over a year old and running a Tegra 2. It's a solid tablet, I use it for typing my papers and doing my research at my university, and if you don't plan on doing anything ridiculously graphically intensive it will suit all your needs just fine.

Is it just me, or is the Xoom the best Android tablet STILL after 2 years? No other tablet from any other manufacturer (or offered by any carrier) offers the combination of LTE, external SD storage, quality screen, fast processor (once overclocked), and overall usability. I've seen the samsung tabs that are out, and none of the LTE ones are really an improvement over the xoom. They offer a dual core, 1 GB of RAM, same resolution screen, etc. I have no intention on replacing my Xoom unless something really groundbreaking comes out (1080p screen, LTE, external SD support, solid battery life). Thoughts?
I agree and I hate that the nexus series doesn't have place for external SD storage....wtf did they think??
Preach!
The XOOM has the worst display panel I've ever seen on a modern device. Colors are bleached they're so pale.

Seriously.
I don't get threads like this. Is the OP just trying to justify not upgrading his tablet or the fact that he has a relatively old device? Every 6 months we see new and better hardware. The Xoom is not the best, by any means. It is outdated.
That doesn't mean it doesn't still hold its purpose. It is holding up well, especially with custom rom support but compare it to the performance of a Nexus 7 or a Nexus 10 or even a Galaxy Nexus. Compare it to an S3. There are notable performance differences.
Honestly, the Xoom was a bit of a flop on launch; it was a rushed beta product. It shipped with beta software (lol Honeycomb), software that didn't even support the micro sd card (we had to wait until 3.2 for this I believe), its display is garbage, (it should have had the same display as the original Transformer tablet), and its prices were a joke ($600 with 2yr contract, $800 off contract). Eventually we got a $600 wifi version, though still overpriced IMO. And of course the marketing for the device was just plain bad; no surprise there though, Motorola device marketing is always poor.
With all that said, the Xoom has been a great device and I've used it endlessly over the past 1.5 years. But to try and say its still the best tablet on the market is just foolish. I might agree that its the best of the 2011 10" tablets that were released, but the Transformer had nearly identical specs with a better display and the advent of a keyboard dock, I'm just not sure how development over there has been.
Anyway, point is, the Xoom was and remains a great device. It has endured the test of time, in large thanks to developers like Team Eos. But it is by no means the best tablet on the market. That ship sailed quite some time ago.
There still isn't another Android tablet I'd rather have (well other than the Kindle Fire 8.9 HD because I like the interface for Amazon Instant Video.) I really don't care about all of this performance that people go gaga over because I don't use my XOOM for games. It does what I need it to snappily enough. The only thing I would even consider replacing this with is the Surface Pro.
If this tablet died today, I would be sorely tempted to get a used XOOM LTE before I priced out another Android tablet.
I don't mind that the screen is subpar, a 10" tablet is still small anyway.

Its still a good device... there are wayyyyyy better tablets out there but still. I'm keeping mine just to install in whatever car I buy in a few no that. It should do just fine!

Everything you say is true. I was not saying that it is the best tablet on the market spec wise, I just see no other tablet offered that has the Xoom's combination of features. Sure the Nexus 10 is great, but why can't I get one with external SD support and LTE? I use my Xoom primarily for work, so the LTE is a huge selling point (I do a lot of traveling). The only android tablet available right now that can match what the Xoom has to offer is the Samsung Galaxy 2 10.1, and it has the same Tegra 2, 1 GB of RAM, and a 1280x800 display. I did see that Verizon is launching the Note 10.1 which is rocking a quad core and 2 GB of RAM, but it still has a 1280x800 display. It'll probably look better than the Xoom's display, but my S3 (personal phone) has about the same resolution as the tabs I just mentioned (1280x720 vs 800) and that's a much smaller screen. I'm seriously hoping the Asus Transformer TF700KL becomes available here.
You are also absolutely right that Team EOS has been a huge part in keeping the Xoom alive. I convinced my coworker to get the Xoom when it first came out and it was incredibly disappointing. He gave it to me a year later, I installed some older ICS rom and it's performance was satisfactory at best. Since I installed Team Eos 3 stable bluild, my xoom has been an effin' peach!
External sdcards need to die. Internal storage and cloud storage is the future.
Seriously, I've had a 32GB sdcard in my Xoom for over a year and I don't think I've ever removed/swapped it out. I would be perfectly okay with a 64GB internal storage tablet (maybe we'll even see 128 GB in the future? doesn't the iPad come in a 128 GB variant?).
As for LTE, I'm willing to bet we'll at least see a 3G version of the Nexus 10 come out; we saw a 3G Nexus 7 not too long after release.

It doesn't need to die but, it will. Alot of potential money is being lost by manufacturers and mobile data carriers.
I have finally come to a situation that leads me needing more than my XOOM can offer. I downloaded SightSpace 3d and brought in a model of the Washington National Cathedral. It's not a complicated model but it crashed. It doesn't on my Galaxy Nexus. I still don't think I'm gonna get another Android tablet though.

Yes, but we're not in that future yet. Cloud services go down far too often these days. At this point, I can get SD cards for almost nothing and switch between movies faster than I can download them. I also am guaranteed a smoother viewing experience as my movies won't fall victim to network latency. It's a nice dream but I live in the present.

Most of the world considers a reliable power grid, flushing toilets and ready supply of food to be modern and civilized, so are you just trolling or ignorant?? Of course areas with a higher population will be taken care of first when it comes to technology. The county I live in is larger than the state of Maryland, yet Maryland holds at least five times the population. Who do you think is going to be higher up on the "todo" list?
How, is simple economics. If google/samsung is charging a extra $50 dollars for every 8 gigs of internal storage, they would lose money adding a ext. sd slot since you can pick up a 16 gig card for $10-$20, and a 64 gb for $50-$90 (sometimes less) Why pay them more money for something that you can get more of for less money.
Data mobile carriers can make money on us less "civilized" folk who don't have a abundance of free wifi spots in our area, so, if we aren't near a wifi spot to download from our cloud storage, we have to use mobile data or do without. Two of the big mobile carriers are no longer offering unlimited data, so you have to pay. Others are offering unlimited, but ppl that are using more are getting throttled whether the companies will admit it or not. I won't be surprised if premium data packages start coming out offering faster data speeds by putting those accounts on priority... for a price

Hey man, thats some adorable sarcasm. Look at you being all edgy. Man I wish I could be as cute and clever as you are.
Sorry but those places aren't the primary target for high end, high tech devices. By any means. OEMs should be pushing for more advanced tech, not less to accommodate people; this includes sd cards. Have you noticed that Apple hasn't included an sdcard slot for generations? Its no surprise that Google went this route. Its simpler manufacturing wise to not have the slot, helps encourage people to buy the devices with with more available internal storage (and thus have wider profit margins), and it compels people to take advantage of their streaming media market. All of these things help their bottom line.

Seriously, you took my "modern and civilized" comment a bit too literally, don't you think? We're talking about high end mobile devices in a giant nerd forum and you jump straight to HEY MAN RUNNING WATER AND STUFF.
The simple fact is, the cloud is big and getting bigger. Amazon, Apple, B&N and Google all have their hand in the cookie jar, It should be no surprise that they are pushing toward this. Remember that revamp they did last year with the Android market to the Google Play Store? Google Movies/TV. Watch some of their commercials for the tablets; "The Playground is Open." All from the cloud.
Sorry but the future is here and Google isn't going to hold the hands of people that are left behind, they're going to push forward like any smart company.

Apple is a nitch market, If you want to run iOS you need to have a Apple device, only available through Apple, so if they say it doesn't include a ext. sd slot, then it doesn't, if you don't like it, then you don't buy Apple. If you buy a Apple device with 16 gb then 6 months down the road want one with a 32 gb, then you have to buy a new device. Again proved my point.

That is not the reason Google didn't putting sd card in their tablet and phone, Paying MS for using fat32 isn't in google cards,
all other android tech company do for using sd card, Motorola and Google nexus is not paying Microsoft toll money...
That is pretty ridiculous. Your modern civilized world couldn't even support Netflix on Christmas Eve. Part of Amazon's cloud services went down and many things weren't available. During hurricane Sandy, many prominent things on the internet were down. Your wifi and high speed broadband mean nothing if network bridges go down. I've got FiOS and it's still slow at times because the server on the other end only has T1. The cloud is not reliable yet. Most of the mainlines of the internet aren't scalable enough to support everyone cloud streaming everything. Apple is a poor example you've picked. iCloud was a disaster. Apple AND Amazon had a security nightmare in the last year. I can find more examples of these forward reaching companies flaking out if you insist that this is the future. We just don't have the redundancy or the capacity to support a connected world yet. Even if Apple managed to get its stuff together, there are still players that it depends on not to flake out on them.
If this is the future, we're screwed because it is an unstable insecure mess in our little modern and civilized world.
Anyway... My XOOM is 100% able to play every movie I own from my SD cards ALL of the time. If I have power, I have everything I own. I am not at some provider's mercy for data or connectivity. Oh, and by the way I don't have to worry about network security because I don't have to be connected. Ever.
I live in the present. I don't embrace the cloud and keep it at arm's length after a friendly handshake. The XOOM's LTE radio lets me enjoy the best of both worlds. I look to the future but I also remember the past and remain cognizant of what's happening around me.
