Possible to get iphone Live Photo capabilities? - Galaxy S6 Edge+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm in love with the Live Photo on the new iPhone 6s I've tried everything to copy the betta fish gif with no luck. Do you think we could ever duplicate this iphone feature? Love love love my S6 Edge + but man it would be nice I must say
Thanks!

What would you be using it for? a Background image (as there is live wallpapers already) or a little clip you can add and share with folks?

Yes, I have used live wallpapers but I'm looking for a video picture app like that of the new iPhone 6s plus. I want the fluidity of a live video pic nothing I have found measures up. I think it's so cool

The only thing I can think of is something like Vine (due to its short video clip nature)
If your looking for something to behave like the iPhones 'live' pictures you might be best off posting in the Themes and Apps section to see if there are others who want the same, enough people and it might get a Dev to look into it

Thanks, I'll give that a try!

Nexus runing iPhone OS

Made my Nexus run iPhone OS last night.... Sweet
Interesting...
You are kidding me, right?
Or you just have a screenshot on there.
...not! Where is the instruction, more sreenshots, downloadlinks???
However: It looks interesting but i dont think so, that you've manged it "last night".
I can tell by the pixels.
Come on guys.. you really believe someone ported an OS to a new platform 'last night' expecially when that OS has no source code available and is only available for a very specific hardware configuration - even writing and integrating the drivers woud be a nightmare.
I could just about believe someone porting WinMo and that would be a major undertaking (unless one of the HTC phones has sufficiently similar hardware).
Far easier to photoshop a picture of an iphone on top of an N1.
Look, I ran 1.6 on mine, lol, definitely a screenshot.
Why would I care or for the fact even want the iPhone OS running on my Android phone. The reason I got an Android is that I wanted an Android. Blah.
If you wanted an iPhone then go get one.
Got some newbies and some senior members here hahahaha
this is not iphone OS its a FAKE!!!, more than likely it is an app like on the windows mobile forum, for an iphone look, so hate people trying to BS everyone!!

Y u would even want to tarnish the phone by faking that is beyond me.
The picture doesn't even look photoshopped. It looks paintshopped! For anyone that's convinced this is real please take a look at the screen edges. The iPhone screen is smaller and this guy can't figure out how to stretch the image to the fit the bezel. Also his hand has no pixelation but the screen does? Funny funny... so funny. If you really are that lazy maybe you should get an iPhone.

It's called a joke, get with the program.
I would have believed you if you said..."N900.."
There is actually a paid application in market that sort of fakes iPhone with wallpaper....that picture is just a loaded screen-shot of that app.

Even if this were true, which is obviously isn't, why the hell would you do this?
Grats, you just lost multitasking? Enjoy doing 1 thing at a time while the rest of us do 5 (or 30).
And am I the only one that thinks this, but the iPhone OS is extremely ugly??? That home screen makes me throw up. A live wallpaper that I can choose, one that moves and responds to touch, or a boring black background with nasty icons?
Whether or not this is fake, the very existence of this thread thread enrages me.
If you're going to fake it at least change the network to one that's supported.

My Galaxy S Review

Hi guys, In just finished my Galaxy S review and would appreciate any constructive feedback
http://hemorrdroids.net/?p=528
It might also be useful for anyone trying to decide on buying one.
Thanks.
A comparison between the SGS and the Nexus with GPS test would be usefull.
Good, well writen review. I noticed the same thing, when I handed my phone to others, they always comment on how light it is. After unlocking, they are dazzled by the screen quality. The majority of my officemates use smartphones and know what OS, specs of their phones; Blackberry, Android, Symbian (Nokia) and iPhones and they comment on how nice the Galaxy S is. I have disabled TouchWiz for obvious reasons.
nice review, thx!
i will receive mine tomorrow. i feel like a little child on the day before christmas
I disagree with your interpretation of the camera test. The galaxy shots are much better. They show much better dynamic range. Look how the n1 clips the sky all over the place. Its almost hard to look at. The shadows are also very very dark and lack very much detail. Then look at the galaxy shot. The sky is clipped, but much less so. There is still detail in the clouds. In the shadows, there is also far more detail than in the nexus. The second photographs may not be as extreme but they certainly show the galaxy dealing much better with the high dinamic range situation. I would say the galaxy completely trounces the n1 in those two test shots.
edit: I think you are confusing global contrast with detail.
GPs test please
PS. I really enjoyed your review. It seems like a review from a real person not someone paid to do it or etc. man that phone takes great vids!
Also, canyon play with the camera setting & retry the pic test?
@snowboard
What's screen clipping: is it like tearing on monitors?
I spy a BBQ ! Om nom nom !
Seriously, nice review. Just ordered two SGS's

Also, it's a bit strange you didn't even try touchwiz.. I tried launcher pro, but the look and feel of touchwiz is much more consistent with the rest of the native apps. The speed of touchwiz (specially after nolag fix) is very good, no difference with launcher pro.
What i also like is the samsung market where you get, otherwise paid, apps for free. Like Vlingo Voice Command, Asphalt 5 and some other stuff..

Yeah, when I got it I was thinking more as a user and not a reviewer. I should have tried TouchWiz for a day to be able to give my own opinion on it, then switch to a different launcher so I can compare the two.

Someone else suggested maybe I had a finger smudge on the lens when I took the SGS picture.
Have you looked at the folder full of pictures and videos? The link is nearer the end of the camera bit.

You need to fix lous in this sentence. Nice review.
Although I don’t think it’s lous enough for me to take a shower and listen to it still, if I’m sat at my computer, I could have the SGS on the desk next to me a clearly hear the podcast player.

The white balance of the n1 is a little cool and the white balance of the sgs is a little warm. The white balance is a personal preference. The n1 has a higher contrast curve and really poor dynamic range. The increased contrast is pribably what makes you like the photo more. The problem comes why you want detail in light and dark places. You can't do it. You can't reduce contrast in software in any helpful kind of way. The sgs has a rather flat contrast curve which can be increased using software or even another camera program to suit your tastes. It also will work in more diverse situations.

Nexus-S blows away iPhone4

I bought the Nexus-S on Thursday it is my 3rd Android device, first was the MyTouch3G, and the EVO. I did have a iPhone3G back in the day.
My siblings were over for a Christmas party last night, and my brother and sister both own the iPhopne4, and boy does that OS look and feel dated.
I keep reading how awesome the iPhone 4 is, supposed to be the #1 best smartphone on the market ? I will agree, the look and design of the phone itself is very nice, and feels very solid well put together. But the OS just seems so 3 years ago, with just a screen full of app icons, and no notifications, no widgets, and a small 3.5" just not doing it for me. I think my Nexus-S is a much better product, the live wallpapers might be a gimmick, but I love my starfield one, looks very StarTrek cool. Plus the Super AMOLED screen is so much nicer than the retina display.
I am not bashing Apple, I would possibly buy an iPhone 5, if they make a larger screen, and must add in widgets and a notification system.
One last beef, is the middle thumb button on the iPhone, oh my God, that has to go. I think I would throw the phone against the wall if that's the only button to press. Where is the menu button, and back button ? Just having a home button would be annoying.

To each, his own my good man, but I am definitely with you there... Like looking back (to five days ago) I don't know what I was thinking haha. iPhone 4 is terrible, I don't ever want to buy another Apple phone, but I somehow always do... Hopefully I'll break the tradition in '11.
The OS may feel "dated" but it is much more polished than Android is.
And that's coming from an iPhone user for the past 2+ years who just made the switch to Android with Nexus S.
Welcome to android. All that was true even a year ago with the nexus one. Android OS is just so much more interesting and useful and functional than iOS. It's not even close.
But apple OS does look more polished for some things. To me personally I don't see a huge difference though.

Well, this isn't my first Android device. I was an early adopter with the G1 when it first came out, but ditched it after 6 months or so.
That said, the major area where iOS beats Android is the lack of pop up menus. The flow in iOS is very nice and intuitive. Keyboard is also better plus things like copy and paste, scrolling in the browser etc. App quality and selection is still superior on iOS.
Give Android one, at best two more years, and Apple will piss into its pants.
Thought the same thing ... screen looks tiny and. Os feels out dated... and I have a vibrant..
I do agree the iphones features are very well put together and polished but. It gets boring it super difficult to customize.. also sucks how every single app has to have a back button.. also u can only have 3g only on att Wich sucks cuz att sucks! Just to put it plain and simple the iphone is well made but its boring ... alot of. More fun with android especially playing with ur home screen
The only thing i miss is the ability to take a screenshot w/o a 3rd party app. haha
There are two things iphone/ipod/ipad never has:
ogg vorbis support (much better fidelity than mp3)
adobe flash
The screen on NS is simply the best
color: NS>MT4>nexus one
contrast: NS>nexus one (both have unlimited contrast)>MT4
I also found antenna jack uncovered on NS, so you can plug external antenna when driving to get much more constant reception.
In addition, micro/miniUSB data/charging jack is much more common on smartphones now.
Im just glad people are starting to notice how Android is ahead of iOS even at its early stages..oh BTW I LOVE NEXUS S! Coming from N1

Could you provide more details on that? Where's this uncovered antenna jack at?
Are you talking about the little micro-connector to the right of the batter, near the lower volume rocker, when the battery cover is removed? What kind of external antenna are you using?
My brother a big tech geek like myself, makes this comment on my Nexus-S, he says, "yeah your phone looks pretty, the weather widget w/clock, and live starfield wallpaper, and fancy Super AMOLED screen are great and all, but I like the iPhone for it's simplicity, I like to turn the phone on, see my app I want, and click it and go to it. I am not going to stare at some pretty home screen all day, that doesn't matter to me. I just want my apps, and get to them right away."

I would agree with you prior to the Nexus S....but this new Google phone is every bit as good and polished as the iphone 4 IMO.
Some general questions about ios vs android?
1)We are all saying that android is open source and ios is not...why then all the great hackers like Musclenerd, Saurik and Geohot are interested more in iphone?....which hach scene is larger?
2)Why android manufactors dont build a direct iphone killer device which also has the same top build quality and design with iphone?
3)Ok i dont like ios cause of its simplicity...but generally it is a lot user friendly.... android as rubin said is getting day by day better in tha area....but when you touch even the old iphone 3gs the smoothness of scrolling is sth unmatched by any high end android device i have used in 2010....like galaxy s with lagfix or Desire HD.....i mean the response and smooth scrolling is amazing. It feels so natural.
iPhone is cool too, unlike Nexus S, people actually put their thought in to it. Of course pure google with android is better then ios
iPhone4 owner who just bought a Nexus S here.
I am more productive on the iPhone.
Can't search through my Exchange mailbox (email app) on the Nexus? WHAT?
Can't subscribe to more than one folder in the email app?
(FYI: email app needed to connect via activesync to my corp mail server - K9 doesn't work either. GMail app is great...but since I have to use 2 different email apps, that means no unified inbox).
The Android facebook app is absolute *crap* (can't even tag people in photos, lame).
Evernote/Mint/etc look much better on the iPhone.
iPhone's battery life is SO much better than the Nexus S (anandtech's review showed you can browse the web for *twice* as long on the iPhone)
AT&Ts 3G is much better...
The iPhone's notification (screen on + pop-up) works great for me... can't even get Tasker to turn on the screen when a notification is received with Gingerbread.
There are obviously things I love about Android.. but I don't know which one I'll keep at this point.

I disagree with most of your reasoning and anandtech's review was biased, just another iPhone fan boy reviewing an Android phone? c'mon now.... Esp the battery life he claims it identical to Nexus One? He must have a defect because the battery life is a HUGE improvement and there are many forums to prove this. And speaking of notification, Android BROUGHT notification to the game. There's more than just a pop up screen that we could use. I understand maybe for the Nexus S yea it doesnt have LED but I actually think No Led is clean and unique.

[The Official AND ONLY] 'I Just Got My Phone' and 'Users Initial Reviews' Thread!!

Ok its getting close to the 30th so this thread is to stop EVERYONE and their dog opening new threads shouting about how much they love their new phone.
If you feel the need to tell everyone that your new phone just arrived or that you just went to pick yours up then you can post in here.
You can also post your initial thoughts and reviews if you wish and I will link to them in this 1st post if you let me know.
Hopefully this thread will stop thousands of similar threads being started on and around the 30th.
It should also stop users starting several similar new threads saying they have just picked up the SGS3 and asking if anyone wants anything tested/reviewed. Instead, EVERYONE can just post their questions in here and they will be answered (maybe) by people who have the phone in their hand.
If ANY threads with the above subject are started they will be closed without warning.
Personally im picking up my white S3 Sim Free from my local CarPhoneWareHouse on Wednesday and should have the SGS3 ToolKit up and running for it soon after .
EDIT: 30/05/2012 Picked my shiny new Galaxy S3 up from my Orange shop today.

Pebble blue or marble white?
Pick mine up tomorrow from Samsung Stratford UK. Cannot wait!
I ordered the sleek looking white version.
I look forward to seeing the pictures.
i wonder how the phone is in person? the one x didn't impress like how i saw it in pictures.. LOL.. i was disappointed! wasn't really bad but i thought it'd look nicer , it must be the matte finish or probably the color of the phone, i saw the white one.. htc should've gone with a glossy or metallic look of the plastic... would look better imo..

It would be awesome if people mentioned which color they have. Just being curious about the availability of the pebble blue.
White, using it for past 4 days loving it. Rooted, CMW already. tested some ROMs on it. Working great. Have wifi bug either from importing legacy software of LG O3D or new dont know yet. After a night sleep in morning the phone doesn't recognize any wifi hotspots, have to toggle off/on again.

Can you do another video of the buddy photo tag feature in camera? can it detect faces properly?
Also, have you tried using the Allshare Play feature. Details on the setup can be found in allshareplay (dot) com

Just opened up my brand new marble whiteo) SGS3. It feels really fast, faster actually than it did at the store, and definitely faster than my old SGS2. The display is really amazing, even though I do notice the sparser grid of the subpixels when looking at black text on a red background(engadget homepage). It does however look much better than the Super Amoled Plus display of the SGS2.
The camera is really fast, but the transparent UI that we saw on the review models isn't there(don't really like the grey good for nothing bars, but it could be a setting I've missed). The pics are crisp and clean, but don't expect any miracles from it, as low-light performance isn't the best, but good enough.
The video pop-up feature is also really cool. Gonna post more first impressions soon!
Oh, and the SGS3 is really really comfortable to use! Feels right at home in my hand.
EDIT: Just tried out the sound quality, and boy is it an upgrade from the SGS2. Much better now! Hopefully we'll se an awesome review again by supercurio once he gets his hands on it.
Browser is blazing fast. Installing apps is blazing fast. The GPS is insanely fast, got a lock in 2 seconds inside my house(google maps) first time I tried it! Everything is just working fluidly, but when enabling the power saving mode, the fluidity goes down the toilet.
Everything, but the pentile screen(notice it when I surf the web on my couch) has been amazing thus far!
EDIT2: Woops, got the colors mixed up..
@Toss3, It's "marble white" and "pebble blue". oh btw I hate you (joke)
So the first one that posts a picture of his Pebble Blue GSIII wins

this is because you set your cam to do 8mp shots, and the 8mp resolution has a 4:3 aspect ratio. choose one of the wide resolutions, like 6.5w, this will have a 16:9 aspect ratio and give you the transparent effect on the buttons.

iPhone 5s to Xperia Z3

Greetings..
I have just switched from a iPhone 5s to the Xperia Z3. Having been an iPhone user since the 3Gs, you can imagine that I might find using this new phoen a little strange..
I just wondered what the general view was and how many iPhone users have converted to Android?
I must admit, I really like what this phone has to offer but do miss things like FaceTime and iMessage.. is there no way iMessage can be introduced as an Android app?
Not a real question or anything just generally wanted to know what you guys thought...

Hi and welcome to the world of Android. I personally made the jump years ago and never looked back. Granted there are some things that might need some time to get used to.
Your question related to facetime or imessage implies that you are from USA. In Europe that wasn't so big deal because everybody here uses whatsapp, no matter which operating system they are using. Google does have hangouts which is basically google's response imessage and while it is possible to get it on IOS also I doubt that many will use it. And because apple wants to keep everything closed there will never be imessage for Android. I suggest try using WhatsApp, that's a really good multiplatform alternative.

Hey
Thanks for the quick reply. No I am from the UK, but my entire family and friends circle are iPhone users, this is why the facetime and iMessage were important.
not to worry I am using Telegram at the mo, I already have WhatsApp but started using telegram as can use it via the PC and Mac too.
Thanks again for the feedback

Welcome to the new world, hopefully you can guide your friends and family to see the light; that there are alternatives and even WP8 phones are worth a try.
iMessage is proprietary software of Apple so, unlike Blackberry, which has launched an Android app for its service you won't see iMessage on the Play store till hell freezes over. Also, facetime is just video calling, right? Well you can use skype and lots of other alternatives but I understand the advantages of having one service everything and everyone.
Hangouts is cross platform and is basically imessage and facetime all in one app. Get your iPhone friends to install hangouts.
Sent from my Sony Xperia Z3 Compact D5803
Hangouts is awesome, with a plugin for it on Chrome PC version I can get calls and see SMSs directly on my laptop. Just make sure you add your cellphone number to Google Voice.
Just my 2cents:
My first Android phone was the Samsung Infuse (dumb down version of the Galaxy). It was quite big and back then, when Jobs was still around, the size was mocked. My first iPhone was the iPhone 5 and I really enjoyed the free texts and facetime feature. The downside was the lack of customization like Quick Settings/Notifications like Android. But my GPS and app integration was better in iOS compared to Android, even for Google Maps (I don't know why, I just like the iOS version better).
I just go the Sony Xperia Z3 as well and man it is gigantic compared to my iPhone 5. Unlike the iPhone, I can only fit it into my pocket and nothing else along with it. It feels weird. I'm going to be selling mine on Swappa. Apple made a mistake IMO. The iPhone 6 should have been similar in dimension to the iPhone 5 and they should have let the iPhone 6 Plus satisfy demands for a larger phone. However, I do like how Android has evolved. It makes iOS look stale in comparison.
Unless you're a really heavy texter or make frequent use of facetime, I think you'll enjoy it, unless like me, you don't like the dimensions.

Perhaps but I thought it looked too thick. It's a give and take world. Just when I think Apple is going to catch up to Android with software, they blow it on the hardware side with the iPhone 6.

Z3 Compact is only 1mm thicker than a iPhone 5s. I'd be surprised if you could tell the difference. I too think the iPhone 5s was one of the best phones Apple has ever designed.

You're correct. The other reason why I chose the Z3 over the Z3C was the Z3 was aesthetically pleasing. The Z3C looks like a miniature brick but the Z3 looks refined and beautiful.

Great decision mate. You will love the fact you paid less than the equivalent iDevice but for a handset that can do more. Apple no longer holds a monopoly on good looks and I think they failed in design when it came to the current crop of devices this year. The Z3 is a strikingly better looking and feeling device IMO. It will be the small things that will add up but also make a huge difference on their own. The permanent back button is a good example instead of reaching for the top for many functions n the iphone. Better notifications, discreet notifications, actionable ones, all clear or single clear. A brighter display and a darker one at night. You'll love the battery life, a staple for most Android devices for a long time. Better sharing capabilities and more intuitive share options from all apps. More power using many apps for e.g. on dropbox to create, edit and upload and change files on the fly. Unlocked NFC usability, true bluetooth sharing, waterproofing, hardware camera button, EXCELLENT digital image stabilisation, two hour app refund window no questions asked, etc etc etc. Better audio in some respects too!
