I'm not really too sure what engadget is trying to get across. The only thing I saw was the microscopic shot comparison as having any validity. But even then, if you need to 10x magnify a screen to see the difference, is it really worth it?
Then, they go and show pictures of the Super AMOLED display, which people are going to be seeing on an LCD!
So I took it upon myself to write up an article on my group blog, *visually* showing what the difference truly is.

Let me know what you guys think. I'm currently getting all of the features into a Galaxy S review.
Nice analogies man hahaha. Good read
The Galaxy S camera isn't "Back-side illuminated" - you should correct your comparison table.
You really need to get your eyes checked if you need to be closer than 30 cm to see the pixels of the pentile screen. The only thing better about the Super Amoled screen is the blacklevels - that's it(besides size that is). The colors are off, the whites are pretty dim, the shadow detail is usually colored(due to the pixel structure) and you can clearly see color-banding which you cannot on the IPS display of the iPhone.
The Galaxy S is a better phone imho, but when it comes to the display the iPhone 4 has the SGS beaten.
EDIT: The SGS has a a Li-Ion battery not Li-Pol.
Anyone speak Italian?! If so look at this: youtube.com/watch?v=NMsl7ceJuK4
Hey guys, thanks for the input. Does anyone have a link to the camera sensor? I had asked a Samsung Representative if they used a back-side illuminated cmos sensor and they replied in the affirmative.
Also, on this page: http://galaxys.samsungmobile.com/specification/spec.html?ver=low
They list the battery type at 1500 mAh li-pol.
I do agree the interpolated nature of the display has color banding issues, however, pixel density is a bit over rated. If you are critical of the SGS display at 30cm, I wonder how you've managed to cope with every computer monitor available today at 60cm. Even a 20" screen at 1080p is 111PPI, FAR lower than the SGS even with accounting for PenTile Matrix.
And if you can only list black levels as superior to LCD, maybe you need to play more fast paced video games. Response rate is critical. Between black levels and response rate, these are attributes that LCD will never be able to attain.
About color accuracy, I guess it's a toss up. Muddy blacks or color banding. Providing the amount of gradiation isn't intense, it's (almost) a non-issue. Shadowing (like you said) in media is a worry. But for most applications, you generally don't see long sprawling gradients.
And, I suppose pixel density is also subjective. I'd prefer to have true black and an immediate response rate. Also, while I can see the tiny little dots of pixels on my SGS at 30cm, they blend it very nice. Much nicer than my desktop monitor.
superb article. hilarious and
Agreed, I had a blast reading the article.
It's a perfect to explain the difference to the technically challenged people that thinks Iphone4 is the holly grail.
now, the next best way to show technically challenged people is by having another one of these cool comparison but using an Iphone4 instead.
HTC Desire vs. Galaxy S
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpP5QljEqow
assuming some one manages to run Quake 2 on an Iphone4 LOL
btw in the chart near the end, you listed the gyro as Captivate model only, but its on all us models as far as I'm aware
Yea, I have to update the info since the NYC event. Also Samsung used lower numbers for response rate and contrast ratio, so I have to change my dollars/cents thing.
They lowered it exactly by half on each. So instead of 100,000:1 CR, they said 50,000:1. And instead of Response rate at 1 micro second they said 10 microseconds. Which is an order of magnitude different, but still very very nice.
Basically the the money will be chopped in half. Either way, I double checked with a Samsung rep and when I fix those things up, the chart will be accurate.
Images missing.
Thanks. Great article.
Can't see the images though.

But to me.. its a GOOD THING ... iPhone 4 uses Single LED flash... This type of flash doesnt even have enough power to make a difference in your picture quality.. its more like a BULL**** feature to trick noobs to buy it.
You need at least a Dual LED/Xenon Flash...

Your kidding right? I've compared my phone to my mates iPhone 4 and the SGS is clearly superior. It has far better color and webpages are easily readable without zooming in whereas on the iPhone, it's a different story.
Obviously, we compared the two phones at full brightness. He has also returned his new iPhone and continues to use his 3g instead which aesthetically, looks better than the iPhone 4.

I just flat out disagree with this testing procedure. It's borderline retarded IMHO.
[*]Firstly, especially with the webpages with reading (the thing you brought up half a line prior, though albeit in a different paragraph) reading demands low brightness.
[*]Secondly, read the posts here, everyone is turning the brightness to "0%", low, and even download an app that brings that "0%" down to true 0% rather than the 8% that it actually uses. People are doing this because it's easier on the eyes, saves battery and a multitude of other reasons.
[*]Thirdly, this screen is plenty bright without full brightness. Even in direct sunlight you don't need this at full brightness, the screen is that good (again, love it)
Really, in summary, the way you should test both devices is the real-world usage scenario. Anything else and all you are doing is showing off it's potential, not it's practical use. Again, I think I've posted here or another thread or both how much I was against the Engadget test, particularly because they lead with the macro lens shots. To me, that was sensationalist, they were trying to either get "oohs and ahhs" or make Apple look as good as possible. Either way, that's journalism at its worst and not even something I want to read in a blog I visit. However, to do something like turn brightness up all the way is just a tiny bit better...unless this is actually how you or your friend would use the device regularly. Again, I believe that each device can even, have an independent setting, one at 0% and one at 100% if that's how the user would typically use the device. To get back to my Engadget point, that's why it's important to give as many views and settings as possible. Compare them all, find out where one's strengths lie because you have such a wide audience. However, I'm not sure how many people use a macro lens to view their device on a daily basis, so leading with that is just retarded. Do I think it's completely irrelevant? Maybe not as perhaps there are some people who wouldn't get the detail needed because they have near super-human perfect vision where they can detect all these things that are too minor to even be called subtleties.
I have to say that in terms for average daily use, there isn't any real practical difference between the two phones at face value. I have a SGS, my wife has the iPhone 4 btw. But that being said, after spending any length of time with the iPhone 4, you will notice a difference once you go back to the SGS. If may not be initially obvious, but your eyes will be able to discern the difference.
If you're using the phone to read mucho text, I'm sorry, there is no way the SGS can trump the iPhone 4. The iPhone 4 retina display is a beautiful one and I guarantee that if you use both for decent amount of time with an unbiased mind, you WILL notice the difference in terms of text definition and clarity.
However, when it comes to motion and movies, the SGS takes a dump all over the iphone. The iPhone, whilst still great to watch movies on, can't compare to the far superior contrast, colours, and vibrancy of the SGS AMOLED screen. When you have motion on screen and you're not squinting at text, the high pixel density, to me, almost doesn't even factor into the equation anymore.
So there's my two cents. I wouldn't trade my SGS for her iPhone 4 at all, however, I would probably sing a different tune if I did a lot of e-reading or web browsing on my phone. After using the iPhone to browse text for even a few minutes, I hated going back and doing the same on my SGS. Anyway, to say one display is practically (not technically) superior to the other only depends on the purpose of which you'll be using it for. Both are great and I don't see why people have to argue the point that one has to be better than the other.
hmm... i like reading my webpages at full brighness
i hate dim LCD or any kind of screens

Agree completely. My uses is what got me into the device. However, a guy come on here saying he was going to use this like an e-reader (novels) first and foremost, webpage viewer in the house on wifi quite a bit, with the tiniest bit of PMP qualities. He was asking something specifically about what apps to get IIRC, I told him to buy a Kindle, iPad or iPhone 4 (I think I rated the iPhone 4 above the iPad because of the portability that he desired, but can't quite remember). If I wasn't into A/V (plus an Android fan) I might not have this device.

That's cool, to each their own. I can see webpages being a bit more brightness required than e-ink, but as I said just in my opinion, this device is just flat out bright. But I think it's both of our opposite tastes here that made Samsung put in an independent (I think that's how it works rather than in aggregate with, though perhaps there is some mix...don't really care as I leave both all the way down) brightness control into the web browser. So you won't have to adjust your brightness up when going to the web and if I happened to be walking around on a sunny day I wouldn't have to adjust it downwards.

Is this true? Can some people on 2.3.4 post some photos?
My wife thinks the photos are better.

I hope it is. My sis's Inspire, even though it has an 8 mp, still far out-performs my Atrix, above what just three more mp's should get. Even my Torch took better pictures. But, hey, I got a dual core. I can deal with it.

In 2.2.2 you can zoom with volume buttons, so that isn't anything new. What I noticed in 2.3.4 is that you can move the focus box...so you basically get manual focus!
Looking at pictures is subjective. We need real data to show that pictures are better, if in fact they are. Everyone naturally just expects them to be better cos' they went to 2.3.4 (asian beta), so natural tendency is to "believe" they are better just because.

Exactly.............you need identical comparisons with both firmwares. That means exact same camera position, lighting, subject, etc. Taking many photos really doesn't mean ****, as does what we perceive as a better or worse photo. I would trust a professional photographers eyes with this, but the rest of us just look for what "we" perceive ourselves to "look" better.

Not really if you are looking for accurate reproduction of colours, etc.
Why would we have any posts about cameras being better otherwise? You either want a camera which takes pictures which are accurate, or you don't need to post that your phone takes crap pictures, cos' nobody gives a crap then.

When two phones are compared and the camera is compared - they take photos of the same thing. By us looking at the comparisons we generally make our own decision about which colours we think look better.
Why are any photos posted in single phone reviews? Yes they comment on colour reproduction and such but ultimately its so people can see how the photos look; not to compare it with a DSLR. I want to see how the photos look.
Apparently the benchmark scores are low but I see most people that are replying with the 2.3.4 just installed say the phone feels faster either way.
Anyways, what point are you trying to make? I want to see photos posted with 2.3.4. There are many topics for other phones where people post photos from their phone, so whats the big deal if I want to see photos from 2.3.4 since its SUPPOSED to be better now?
If somone takes a photo of a red ball at noon in their house with a 100 watt light bult on the ceiling as their only source of light, I think we will be able to tell if the photos look bad or not.
Point is that its not hard to look at a photo and tell if it doesnt look good. Please just leave this thread alone if you're not going to contribute and you're going to just be negative about it.
So far two people have said its better, now I give more of a crap about seeing some photos because of those replies.

My point is that people jump on this "what is better/worse" bandwagon on a beta build which isn't even for the US, (where almost everyone is who is flashing the HTKW 2.3.4), and try to compare before and after.
Everyone expects it to be better, and so you all perceive everything you see as better. If you want to compare, stop saying "pictures look better now" and post real comparisons.
Yeah, sure, I can take 2 pictures with the same phone, (and a 100 watt bulb and red ball), one in the morning, one at night, and with different firmwares. Because the one at night looks better with the newer firmware, does that mean the phone is taking better pictures? No, it doesn't!
I am not being negative, and no I won't leave a thread where what I consider my valuable contribution is asking for proof of pictures being better. I simply want more than people saying pictures "look" better.
If you can't provide some form of proof, and can't/don't want to argue why real comparisons are required, then why don't you leave this thread, as it seems your contribution is nothing more than a 100 watt lightbulb and red ball!

Why are you saying I am contribution a red ball and such? ... I am ASKING FOR PHOTOS in this thread, I am not really contributing anything untill people actually post photos - then I am contributing a source of photos for other people that want to view them.

why dont we have people take a picture of something then post it (on froyo) then take the same picture (on gb). good plan? xD isnt that the point of this thread? im too lazy to go back to gb or i would, i took two random pictures and they turned out "okay" but that was with flash, flash seems to work alittle better as in it doesnt falsh at the wrong times now. i dont see why the quality would be any better since this is a beta not even for our phones. they also said there is a performance boost and other stuff but none of that is in this version, i cant even zoom in with the camera without getting fc. id hold on a bit before comparing.

Hi guys and gals,
got my Xperia Z today and am really disappointed with the display viewing angles. Just wanted to share a few shots with you for comparison.
(Don't hate me for the iDevice, it's a business phone, didn't have a choice  )
The bad thing is: you really notice the color distortion at normal use. While looking up front, everything's fine. But tilt in any direction and you immediately see the problem. Didn't expect the 4x display to be so much better, minus the resolution. Maybe I just have caught a "bad" Xperia, but... meh. Guess I will return it and wait for the X-Phone or so.
I read on a german site that users are reporting a great variety in display quality, this is really a bummer on a flagship smartphone.

pint

to be fair, not every one has the same expectations and preferences so if you really want good viewing angles this is not the phone for you or if you feel you miss out when other phones have better viewing angles, this is not the phone for you. in the end of the day Sony could have prevented this by using a better panel.

Such as DDR2 Ram on the HTC one instead of DDR3. Not to mention low GL bench scores and the the camera not necessarily living up to the hype.

Nobody looks on their smartphone in the exact same angle 99% of the time. Do you hold your smartphone straight before your eyes when you look at it? Because that's the only angle the colors are shown correct. The slightest tilt will result in distortion and this ist f*ing annoying.

Why would I care what kind of screen Sony uses on the XPZ, I just want an AWESOME screen. This is cleary not awesome.
Don't forget it's a 600€-phone, you should expect a high-end-display on this one.

The camera's great, I just had not-ideal settings. But given I wanted to show the color distortion, I guess the problem is pretty obvious. What do you want to see?

Nobody looks on their smartphone in the exact same angle 99% of the time. Do you hold your smartphone straight before your eyes when you look at it? Because that's the only angle the colors are shown correct. The slightest tilt will result in distortion and this ist f*ing annoying.

Not true, sorry.
Here are my shots of Z in the store:

The fourth photo shows the phone at an angle (even this is unnatural though) and everything looks great.
Mind it's a shop where strong lights reflect on the Z's surface.

Compare the icon colours of picture 2+3 to the colors on picture 1. Obvious.
Since there are no colours on picture 4, take a look at the software button bar and compare the lightness to that on on picture 1. Pretty much different, I don't think it looks too great.
edit: also compare the software button bar on pic 2+3 to pic 1, it's almost as "nice" as the display on my Archos A70.
Wow XZ screen looks really wonderful at first pic, which the same viewing angle I use 99% of the time

For those of you that now have this phone, what are your thoughts? I'm liking this phone more and more but do I need it, well, not really. I'm perfectly happy with my Nexus 4 running PA but there's something about this that has me wanting it. I think part of it is the fact that it's kind of the underdog. It will be exciting to see what the dev's come up with, ROM wise. Anyway, my brain is just spinning as usual, haha.

I'm coming from a sony X10 but the oppo find 5 is working good, I had no dead pixels everything worked out of the box.
I have some problems with contact syncing and gmail updates. Photographs are beautiful, but HDR is not really good on dark spots. (lots of noise because of ISO value's)
I did not wanted the nexus 4 because of the glass back. But I think I would also be happy with the nexus 4. But it is overpriced in the Netherlands, my oppo is cheaper then the nexus 4.
It is super fast compared to my X10. No idea how fast the nexus 4 is.
I think you can better donate some money to charity instead of buying yet another high-end phone
nice
previous phone: HTC Sensation
+ Display: WOW! youtube trailer in HD and people start peeping their eyes out!
+ Sound: I never heard a phone playing it sounds like this
+ Speed: I changed the default (ugly) launcher to APEX, this give's the phone a better feel
+ Camera: Although my previous phone was already 2 year old hence i cannot compare it to recent in-phone-camera's it looks great
+ Desgin: It is sharp but not too sharp edged, it's light and thin. the phone is big in size but because its slim dimensions you will not notice it in your jeans (unless you wear skinny jeans i guess, but who does that )
- Temperature when under load, i feel the device is getting pretty warm, your hands start being sweatty.
- Stock UI
Display
Simply Amazing. Bright & Crisp.
However, the screen responsiveness to your touch isn't very good. I find myself having to tap many things twice or three times to get it registered.Battery
Terrible. It seems to be draining even while sleeping.
My usual morning routine, I unplugged the phone from the charger. It's charged to 100% over night. I do a few light tasks like replying to text messages, flipping through Flipboard, see one 30 sec YouTube video, brightness setting at 50%.
After 20 minutes of usage, my battery gotten down from 100% to 78%.Speaker
Nice and loud. Best, I have ever heard. But, when you lay it on its back, the speaker will be completely muffled.Camera
Sucks. 13MP only in spirit. Colors are over saturated. And, the balance isn't there. Lots of graininess in images, even in ample light. Also, don't use the LED flash. Your pictures will be almost all blown white. Absolutely no setting like macro, scene mode, white balance, panaroma, etc.. Just point and shoot and hope for the best...and often times, it isn't.
My 8MP Nexus and 5MP iPad Mini can take picture and video much better.Stock Launcher
The widgets are fugly. Period.Build Quality
Strong like my unibody Macbook Pro. However, the power and volume rockers shifts around. The micro USB port is weak. I feel like I'm gonna break that port anytime soon.Software
Random reboots at least twice or three times a day. No idea why. I feel like I'm using Windows 95 all over again. Oh, and Gmail doesn't open up. Yeah, seriously, Gmail DOES NOT work on this phone. I have to use the other mail app instead. Latest firmware & Gmail update.
Software is actually 4.1, not 4.2. Coming from Nexus 4, that was a let down. I miss the swype style keyboard on 4.2.ROM
Currently, as of late March, no ROMsSide Note
USB wall charger & headphones look EXACTLY like the ones for iPhones. Apple will be calling them soon, if not already.
Conclusion
Beauty & the Beast.......okay, maybe just the Beauty and not much else.
Interesting perspective, thanks for sharing. Hopefully a lot of these things can be fixed with future updates. What's the deal with the Gmail not working and is this something that OPPO is aware of?
I really am happy with the phone. Looks great and stands out in the crowd. Screen is fabulous. It's a new kid on the block, so there are a few things that are not quite there yet. But it seems Oppo are really working hard to make a proper go at this. So far weekly updates and regular fixes. I attached a simple benchmark to give you an idea of the spec. I'm sure there are better performers out there, but it seems to hold it's own!
It seems that my take is a lot different than other peoples on the board, or maybe I got really lucky and got the perfect unit, My Droid DNA is in my drawer and my Oppo Find 5 is sitting on my coffee table right now. All I have to say is wow I am really quite surprised with the device, and I have a Droid DNA now, and my previous device was HTC One X International Version. So I have saw some very nice displays lately, and the Oppo Find 5 is right up there with the best of them, it handles its own. The only fault was that I got my Oppo Find 5 with 1 stuck pixel, you don't even notice it only if you look for it when it’s on the black part while its booting up, once the screen comes on you can’t even see it.
+ Display is really NICE! 1 pixel stuck, on par with Droid DNA SLCD3 and just as bright so you don't have to turn it up that far and waste battery.
+ Build Quality I can’t say enough about this, this thing feels like I could Drop it off the roof and it would last.
+ The All black front display looks so good just as nice or better than the One X, and it has that nice curve in the glass that makes it nice to use.
+ I haven't tried the stock ear buds, but with my Sony ear buds, this thing sounds great, no distortion at all, with bass high, all amps sound good.
+ The stock speaker is also a pleasant surprise, it sounds really good at high volume levels also, when set right, no distortion and it gets loud
+ I stuck with the default launcher to give it a try and it is pretty smooth, has a really nice settings layout. I may switch, it reminds me of MIUI
+ The camera is just as good as my HTC DNA, I don't remember which review said it was about like about like an 8MP LG, It shots fine pictures.
+ The white matte finish does not leave any fingerprints and the screen must have that stuff to keep fingerprints off it also, it barley gets fingerprints
+ I have ran plenty of benchmarks and my unit did not get hot at all as someone said, maybe I wasn't holding it where it was getting hot at on their device?
+ The complete design is what really shines on this phone on the outside, it looks so sleek, and I have already caught people glancing and looking at it, and I have only owned it for one day, if that says anything at all?
+ or - Don't know enough about battery life yet but so far mine seems to be holding up better today, now that it is on its second charge, With a full HD Display you have got to know how to manage your battery, turn things off that you are not using at the time, it worked on my One X and that thing was a nightmare. On my One X I also disabled all my apps that I didn't ever use. At least until we get Roms that will take out all the bloat junk. Today my battery is doing really well almost 2 hours screen time and 76% left.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-- I would have to say that the launcher would have been better stock, but I like trying new things out. I really hope Paranoid Android comes to this phone that will be my rom of choice. I already know CM and MIUI are coming soon.
-- The Ugly widgets, Oppo have so many better widgets on their other phones (Oppo Finder, Oppo Way, Oppo 3?) all those widgets look better IMO. I wish I could replace them somehow by switching APKs; maybe someone knows how and could let me know?
-- Contrast I like the over saturated look we have a developer that is working on a kernel or app to set your display just how you like it, at least I think so anyway?- hopefully we can get this fixed soon I know it’s being worked on by paperweistage and his kernel hopefully he gets it figures out, but if you want to help he is looking for some help in his kernel thread, He is looking for JDI Display white-sheets. So help out if you can
And support our developer, that’s how we eventually get more custom Kernel Roms and Apps. Donate to them a couple dollars for a cold one or a coffee.
-- or + It is a little bit on the heavy side but look how it’s made! Some could call this a negative but I left it neutral because it is well balanced and with a full metal frame inside around it, I don't really mind it weighing 20 extra grams, at least hopefully my phone won’t shatter into a thousand pieces if it falls on the ground.
Add more later after I use it awhile longer.
Stock Find 5 Score
[/IMG]
BELOW MY DROID DNA with a custom kernel, once we get a custom kernel for the Find 5, I think it will do better than the DNA I couldn't get the scores I'm getting with the Find 5 with my DNA when it was stock maybe 18900 or 19500.

drvsbsm, awesome review! I was checking the OPPO forums earlier and was really getting mixed thoughts on the phone. I know this phone is new and things are just getting started and I think that is some of what's driving me to it. I remember when the Nokia N9 came out with it's Hartmann/Meego OS, I fell in love with that thing and it was pretty much a dead platform when released. It looks like OPPO is keeping up with bug fixes and putting out updates so that's a good sign. Most of all though, I think the thing is SEXY, a beautiful device.
I'm guessing the vendor on Amazon is the place to get it from, the one located in HK?
Thanks again guys!

+1...... The good think is that the almost everything can be repaired (soft related )
Video camera isn't that very good.
Video is okay if the subject stands still. However, when subject runs or any fast moments, then video gets blurry or ghosting.
For example, here's a video of my daughter at her Taekwondo practice. Notice how she gets blurry when she starts running?

Hopefully this will be addressed as OPPO is releasing an update within a few days for camera related issues.
I have a question about the screen durability. I read somewhere, maybe GSMArena, that the screen rippled very easily and was a bit flexible. That sounds very concerning. I've also heard a few things about poor touchscreen response. This may also be hardware only problem that can't be fixed with any updates.
A lot of these smaller phone makers can just buy off the shelf parts (figuratively) and bulid their own phone. They don't need to develop their own hardware components, just how everything fits together and the overall design. The camera is an Exmor RS from Sony, and the screen is probably a 1080p panel from Sharp. Of course the processor is Qualcomm.
The biggest problem these small relatively no name companies face is the software. It's the brains that makes the smartphone smart, and having a small and inexperienced team, especially while trying to make your own skin, can lead to many shortcomings, from bugs to performance issues to compatibility to poor hardware utilization and battery life. A lot of this stuff even the big boys have trouble with and they have far bigger teams with far more experience. Oppo should go the route that BLU is taking in the future. BLU has a really horrible skin, allegedly, and unstable and buggy phones, but they are supposedly putting stock Android on their new Life series line of phones.
From what I've gathered, the screen is made by JDI?

The screen is from JDI. seems pretty sturdy to me. They seem to be keeping on top of things. But they have a very good reputation in the high end Av community. It's also not their 1st phone. Just their first soiree in the international market.
I have had my Find 5 for more than a week now sans screen protector. Unfortunately, there are lots of micro scratches already. And, I'm very conscious about where I put and use my phone.
Same practice, my Nexus 4 fair much better even after six months of usage.
All in all, have screen protector or don't have too long of finger nails.

Most company would release software when it's ready and in decent condition for general public consumption... Not beta....or alpha in this case.
Check the camera... Aside from poor image quality.... Do see any basic features like:
Macro
White Balance
Scene Mode
As a matter of fact, on Oppo forums, lots of threads and discussion on how poor the pictures and video are turning out... Oppo just ignore them...basically, saying "DEAL WITH IT!"
Instead, they spent their finite limited development resources in adding useless Panorama feature. When is the last time you took a panorama picture, aside from just wanting to see how it works?
I took a panorama earlier at dinner actually. I did the update out of the box and didn't know it added that so that's cool lol.

You may very well get something up before the professional reviews come out!
First "real world" experiences are being posted by a user from Paris who was able to grab one at Colette. As I am still a new user, I can't post the link.
Googling "OnePlus X Review" will however do the trick (first hit on oneplus.net).

Hey, i'm the 20th person who bought it! I was in Paris on monday at Colette !
My review will be short because i'm not that good in english (sorry for that btw).
I really like the phone. It's actually the best design i have ever seen. Looks so premium!
The screen is the only bad point. Whites are kinda yellow and it's blue when you look from the sides.
The camera is really great, better than my z3c.
Battery is good without being amazing. (4h sot)
Only 39k antutu and it's kinda laggy with one game i tried (Minipix). But other games work fine
The phone is really smooth to use
Hey guys, I received my OP X yesterday and I'm actually really satisfated thats celarly the best phone I never had, No lag, Nice 4g, charging actually fast, and ... So beatiful. I recommend it to anyone who wants to get a cheap and powerful device

That's right. But i'm not a professional photographer, i use Auto on both phones. I know some people who can do great things with their z3c thanks to some custom settings
Awesome phone, the new Nexus killer!
Initial impressions
The phone is great until now
Build is simply amazing even if u don't consider the price. The screen too is brilliant, it's a bit over saturated but colours pop and blacks are stunning thanks to the amoled panel. The camera is quick, focus is fast, shots taken in good lighting are great but OK with low lighting. Similar for the front camera. The performance is great. Smooth and fast. Battery life has been good till now. Audio from the downward facing speaker is good imo.
Let's see how it goes
got mine on 7th in india.
battery 6/5
camera 5/5 - need to retest low light performance with the latest 17 mb OTA but without it night shots were average.
screen 6/5
feel4/5 its slippery plastic cover is a must
look 5/5
apps 5/5 no bloatware
cons
camera app needs to give more granular control
permissions control doesnt give the option of hiding device id etc.
fab device overall.
Got mine today. My last device was a sony z3c and ofc this one has some pros and cons facing the previous I had. The OPX has indeed a very good build quality, feels great in the hand. Size is perfect imo. Has no bloatware at all, comparing to the sony that has nothing but bloatware. Talking about this, I missed a gallery app, this phone does not come with an app to show the photos or videos in your device, what in my opinion is a must have, specially in a near stock android rom. Camera is good, fast and precise. Love the gestures features. Sound is loud enough and clear, in the speaker and in calls. It loses to the z3c in battery life once it has a smaller battery and a bigger screen, and once that z3c is one of the most battery friendly devices i knew. In the OPX I miss a fingerprint scanner, fast battery charging and the oxygen OS has a lot of room for improvements.

No not yet. In a Q&A session today one of the OP staff said they are planning to implement that in a near future.
I bought my X last Saturday at the London pop-up event. Thankfully I got a VIP invite so queuing wasn't an issue (more than 50m long when I left). A free phone cover (only the plastic ones, no wood (which seem to be plastic with a very thin layer of wood on both sides), no sandstone), a T-shirt, another invite and a notebook (paper ) were in the stylish bag besides the phone.
Much has been said before about the build quality which I can only confirm. It's very slippery though so the transparent phone cover from the box does a good job without disturbing the good looks too much. Don't peel the screen protector off together with the 'Never Settle' sticker!
The screen is good indeed but I would think the one of my OPO isn't worse or rather better, sharper. Thanks to the three LEDs per pixel (is it Pentile? Don't know!) the display is very slightly grainy but you have to look very closely. The screen of my HTC One M7 is definitely sharper though.
All phones are quick when new and this one wasn't an exception. Compared to the Exodus ROM I'm running on the OPO everything seems to be a bit choppy, animations are not as smooth. Turning forced GPU rendering on didn't make a difference. The first OTA update helped a bit but not by a huge margin. So far I haven't noticed any changes after the 2nd OTA update which came yesterday in the morning.
After now full four days I still like the phone for its size, everything works without a problem, no crashes, no freezing, Wifi and BT (tested only with a Braven 625s speaker) work without a glitch and so does Wifi Direct (tested with my Samsung 300NX camera). Charging takes about 2hrs, no QuickCharge here, but that also doesn't work on my OPO despite using an array of QuickCharge enabled chargers (all by Aukey). I seem to get a better phone signal compared to the OPO, Wifi also seems to be a bit stronger. Battery life is good, just about enough for one day with my usage (which at the moment means about 7 hours a day without phone signal (work in a basement) which no doubt reduces the battery life), definitely less than with the OPO but that's not really surprising. I've only tested the camera a few times, in those cases the focus was extremely fast and reliable, the picture quality - watched on the phone and zoomed in to the maximum - isn't DSLR like but still ok for Instagram, Facebook and for watching photos on the phone. No issues with the flash, I can turn it on and off and also the Auto mode works fine.
I'm still a bit torn between the OPO and the X, the latter being the nicer looking one and easier to handle, one-handed in almost all situations. The OPO's screen size is of course better suited to browsing and watching Youtube videos, on the other hand the phone can't be comfortably used one-handed most of the time and it's really big in my Jeans pocket. My OPO with Exodus seems to run a bit smoother, but when I once installed Oxygen on it it was absolutely awfully slow and choppy, so this is maybe rather software-related than down to the hardware.
I'm open for questions but I'm not going to drop the phone to test the durability of the glass panes and I'm also not going to run any battery drain tests. It's really, really strange what sort of people are trolling about in the official OP forums, 50% braindeads I would reckon :cyclops:
