Galaxy Grand Prime- Is It Safe To Downgrade From Lolipop To KitKat? - Galaxy Grand Prime Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It is okay to downgrade?
Does anyone knows if something could go wrong if I downgrade from lollipop to kit kat?

I'm trying to downgrade to kitkat but doesn't work for sm-g530h :'( :'( :'(

Go here and make sure your flashing the correct firmware for your varient >> http://samsung-firmware.org/model/SM-G530H/
Note: the country code is very important also for correct firmware.
Also: maybe some varients cannot be reverted because of write protected files that once on a newer version, the older cannot over write a later version..I'm new to Samsung, but some Moto devices are this way..maybe research this..

Is Odin3 failing to flash (or) is the device bootlooping..or both.?
Have you tried a "system erase" via recovery, starting anew, clean OS before flashing.?
sent by my: SM-G531M-88 Grand Prime (or)
my: SM-N910C Note 4 (Lollipop 5.1.1)

I just did it today...
... and if you're careful with the baseband model #, and country code, you should be fine. Here's how I did it:
1- go to Sammobile and search for SM-G530H under the firmwares page, and download the firmware for your country region, and watch the PDA and CSC codes, you need to download the ones for your baseband model;
2- Once the firmware is downloaded, make sure you have Odin and Samsung drivers installed in your PC;
3- Open Odin, load the firmware under AP/PDA option. Start your phone in download mode, plug it and once it's recognized, start the flashing procedure;
4- The phone will start, and once the Samsung bootloop screen shows, it will hang/freeze in that screen. That's because Lollipop is still the main system, and Kitkat is trying to update "in" it. So, open your phone and take the battery out, this will turn it off;
5- Place the battery back in, and restart the phone in recovery mode. Wipe cache partition, then wipe the system to factory default. Then restart the phone;
6- It will now boot up Kitkat. It may take sometime, as it is setting up the apps.

Gonna try it now, thanks!

it is safe

Yeah, its safe, I already did it :3

its works... and now i will again upgrade lollipop.. so if im going to setting>about device>system update and this is upgrade lolipop?? plzz tell m
PHP:

Consider this 1. Choose the right baseband to your device 2.after flashing via odin go to stock recovery by pressing vol up power button and home then choose wipe dalvic cache then wipe phone data after that reboot then it should boot normaly with kitkat installed ☺ thats what ido ive no problem encountered when downgrading

these three buttons together press 5-10 sec (vol(-) button , home button, power button), then a windows open, select the download mode by pressing vol+ button, then from odin flash rom

Flashing on this rom OK G530HXXU2BOH5_G530HSER2BOH5_SER_5.0.zip
but when i select G530HXXU1ANI8_SER1ANI8_Russia_4.4.4_Repair_Firmware this to downgrade .. i got aboot fused error

im getting same type of error too. any alternative method?

I am also trying to downgrade with z3x but fail. try all methods

I maybe a years late or so but I am pretty much sure you can't downgrade from 5.0.2 to 4.4.4. I think the 5.0 bootloader won't allow to downgrade to 4.4.4.
Obviously I maybe wrong since I didn't tried it myself. I only heard it from others. And even if you are able to flash it it will probably go hard brick or something. Do at your own risk.

Fixed - I9505 - kernel is not seandroid enforcing - Reboot & Hangs ! Easy !

S4 I9505
Problem:
Start up screen top left corner shows:
kernel is not seandroid enforcing
Hangs up or Reboots.
I updated my S4 to Version: I9505XXUEMKE
Then I used Odin to Flash a Root with Stock recovery & SU, something went WRONG!
Knox is now 0x1, which should not have happened, but what can I say.
BaM, I got the Reboots & Hang ups.
But, I still could get into Recovery & Download Mode!
SO HERE IS THE FIX:
1. Download, Odin 3 - THx 2 - daerragh
--- I used Ver.: Odin 3.07
2. Download, http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/2/
--- Register
--- And download your Firmware, if you know which you had before it crashed choose that one otherwise Upgrade to latest.
--- For me it was the latest version - I9505XXUEMKE ---- THx 2 -- Repulsa for the tip.
3. Start Odin 3.07 --- [Should it "FAIL" Read note at the Bottom #6].
--- Make sure - Auto Reboot & F. Reset Time are checked - Nothing else.
--- Click on PDA choose your Firmware file in my case "I9505XXUEMKE"
--- this can take a minute or two, WAIT, the PDA will check mark itself.
4. To start Turn off your phone completely ! Now hold following buttons to get into Download Mode,
--- Volume Down
--- Home
--- and last Power
--- S4 will enter into DL Mode
Seeing you have already tried to root you phone, you should have you Samsung USB drivers.
5. Press Start
--- This will take time, after it Reboot itself,
--- remove the USB Cabel & wait
--- at least 5 minutes don't remember how long, I came back after 5 Minutes and it was done,
---------- so then if everything went well for you, have fun :good: .
6. FAIL
--- Should it Fail while uploading to your phone,
--- A. Remove Battery
--- B. Remove USB cabel
--- C. Restart.
--- Should it Fail again (which happend to me), then Do A. B. C. again.
--- and this time Touch your screen about every minute.
I Know that sounds weird, but it worked for me maybe something to do with "Stand by? no clue".
If this has help you in anyway please hit that :good: Thanks Bottun
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE for anything happening to your phone as a result of you flashing this Rom.

Hi guys
A friend and I tried to update my rooted Samsung S4 i9505 to the official kitkat version. Had the unofficial one before. Unfortunatly we didn't turn on the usb debugging and there wasn't enough space on my memory card. After removing the data from the sd card it still didn't work (usb debuging?). My friend then tried to install a custom rom of some sort (I'm the noob here. He has some skills). No whenever I try to start my cell up the message KERNAL IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING pops up in the top left corner. Can I turn on the usb debugging from the pc? What should I do?
Thanks

I think I know what you did. You try to flash an older stock firmware on to your device. Pick a newer firmware because downgrading is not possible.

Hi, I had my S4 with stock rom 4.3 with adam kernel and philz touch recovery, tried to install via odin the stock rom 4.4.2 TTT but because of a CPU problem the usb connection was interrupted while installing. Now I'm stuck at download mode.

Odin was interrupted at the bootloader update (sboot.bin). You need the "factory ROM" to flash it, however I am not aware if anything for 4.2.2 would be available for now.

Well it doesn't work, when I turn on the phone a black screen with a cellphone, a warning sign and a monitor appears and a text says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
With this screen I can only go into download mode but when I try recovery mode it just puts the screen black and back to the same text and pictures.
Another thing that worries me it's that I can't turn the phone off with the button, only if I pull the battery out.
This can be recovered I had same prblm some months ago bt I just flashed stock firmware nd it was fixed u may try flashing stock rom again

Try some other firmware of you own region ......... 4.3 or 4.4 whichever u have for your region .......I think then u will nt get same error

Obviously not. simple flash of ROM is not sorting out the corrupted bootloader problem.

considering your situation, I doubt if it will work. you have to pick from two scenarios:
a) your download mode shows warranty void, knox void, custom: then you have to go to step 2 below.
b) your download mode shows all statuses samsung or official or 0x0 - then go to 1
1. Call samsung service center, they shall sort it out under the warranty.
2. More complicated, if you do not want to pay for repairs.
DELETED, procedure was for I9505 ONLY
you have to follow the procedure form this link instead.
Good luck.

You will need the PC with not faulty CPU, first.
Then, you have to use the PIT from here
Of course, you will need the Qualcomm drivers as well, from here or this one
Then, you have to follow the relatively simple procedure described here
That shall fix the corrupted bootloader, and I hope that you will not see the described there errors which would point to the hardware problem.
Good luck.

Warning!
He said he is in trouble with a I9500 device, so the Qualcomm drivers will not help....much.
Just an observation, you said you have no recovery right? So have you tried just flashing the tar of PhilZ recovery using Odin to get it back?
At least then you'll have a recovery again and can move forward with a custom ROM install

[Q] Soft brick at&t note 3?

Hi
I have AT&T Note 3 , sim unlock from carrier, successful kingo root 0x0 Knox (startup splash screen says Custom Unlock)
So, I was hopped up on percocets because of my recent surgery and i decided i was in conscious enough mind to tackle getting AWS unlock. I wasn't.
I was reading about chainfire regionaway app, so i went to the app store and downloaded the first chainfire app that popped up - 3D. so now i am stuck in the note 3 splash screen. yes i know i should have read it more carefully, etc. but i just wasn't all there at the time. Please help me save this $500 brick!
I've been reading these methods:
http://www.droidviews.com/how-to-unbrick-att-galaxy-note-3-sm-n900a/
i can get the phone recognized in ODIN, but the secure check fail: cache occurs
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2567133
i can't download any of these files...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507403
tried this but didn't work.
i'm really not making any headway... any help would be much appreciated.
side note:
can i send this in for warranty? Since AT&T just release the kitkat update can i claim that i tried to update and it failed?
current binary: samsung official
system status: custom (not official)
Knox lock 0x0
Knox warranty void 0x0
EDIT: After doing the ODIN fail - it is stuck in ODIN mode and says "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recory mode in Kies & try again."
Can not enter download mode. But still connects in ODIN
thanks!
Yes you can return. Best bet as Knox counter is still 0.
If you try other methods and they don't work, you may tripe Knox.
Even you connect to your pc is the phone on download mode?

when i connect to PC it recognizes in ODIN but KIES does not recognize it.
It won't go into reboot mode (vol up + power + home)
it only boots into ODIN mood

Lol?
What are you trying to do here? Flashing anything?
Is it 4.3 or 4.4 os?
Never run kies side by side Odin add the last one hates the first. Kies is useless.
Kill it and restart your pc. Don't run kies services when using Odin.
I think you should download your firmware from sammobile.com and flash it.
Take battery out and then try download mode again. After killing kies you should be able to use Odin to flash.

Where does it say? Kies? Again kies is useless. I don't think it supports note 3.

This means you are trying to flash a version older than what is currently installed. Try the next higher revision, or find one that doesn't include a bootloader.

how can there be a newer version, it was never updated to kitkat?
sammobile only lists that version and i'm quite certain it was 4.3
so if i don't flash the bootloader, what do i flash?

Hi mate,
if you are stuck, maybe you can try this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701062
it's a way to unbrick your software.
and update to kitkat.
maybe your problem is the firmware in the sammobile were before the firmware you have install on your device via OTA update.
Yours firmware came throw out via OTA update and with some reason you can't see any latest firmware USA N900A in sammobile.
try the method in the link and reply if you have been successful.

will this trip knox?
Ok i did this method

i re-downloaded all the files because the files i had just wouldn't work in ODIN or anything. so based your advice i just downloaded new files.
ODIN flash was successful
then i did the rest of the steps successfully! and i am back!

[SM-P905] Upgrade to 4.4.2 P905XXUAOB1 Mar/1/2015, can be downgraded and rooted

** DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT A DEVELOPER. I DO THIS AS A HOBBY AND SHARE MY FINDINGS IN CASE SOMEONE ELSE FINDS THEM USEFUL. **
** THIS WORKED ON MY DEVICE BUT IT MAY NOT WORK ON YOURS. APPLY AT YOUR OWN RISK **
Background
AS of March 27, 2015, the most recent firmware for Note Pro 12.2 international version is the Russian P905XXUAOB1 (with CSC905SERAOB1 and Modem905XXUANA7), Since it doesn't seem that any country is in a hurry to push a lollipop update into this device, I made these files to update the tablet to the latest available firmware. The procedure is designed to achieve two thing: 1- by leaving the bootloader untouched, it is reversible to your current version, if you have the firmware corresponding to your current version at your disposal, 2- it gives you root.
This procedure should not in theory wipe your data but DO MAKE A BACKUP, in case.
And no, it doesn't trip the knox.
Upgrade Procedure
All files that you need are available at the link further down. The are zipped but you should unzip them before using them.
1- Backup everything you have on your tablet
2- Reboot the tablet to the "Download Mode" (by pressing down vol + home key when the device is rebooting, right before you see the first splash logo, then push Up Vol to continue).
3- Run PC Odin v3.09 and load these files (remember to unzip the files after downloading) :
BL: leave empty
AP: AP.tar.md5
CP: CP.tar.md5
CSC: CSC.tar.md5
Leave everything else unchanged and Start.
4- Let the tablet reboot. It will first go to recovery to complete the upgrade and then reboots and initializes your apps.
Note 1: This process should not erase your data but I suggest you do a factory reset yourself (provided you have saved you data somewhere)
Note 2: After the upgrade is complete, the tablet may run slow and get hot for about 20 min because all the apps are trying to get set up and catalog your system. However, if after 30 minutes is is still slow and hot, first try to wipe the data for Google Plus App. If that doesn't work you may want to disable Google Plus, or as a last resort do a factory reset.
Note 3: If you end up doing a factory reset, the tablet will start up in Russian. You can change the language to English at the very first step of the initial set up. After that, go to settings and change the keyboard and input language to English. Then everything will be OK.
Note 4: If you try this out and don't like it, download your old firmware (must match or be newer than what you had before) and flash your tablet back to how it was (you have to do a factory reset after the downgrading).
Root Procedure
If you need to root the tablet, do the following after you finish the upgrade procedure:
1- Install towelroot v3 on your tablet, but don't run it. The app is inside a zip file at the download site and you should unzip it with the password 12345
This is done because some systems flag this app as a virus when it clearly is not. There are two versions there in the zip file. Either one should work just fine.
2- Install SuperSU, but don't run it.
3- Reboot to download mode.
4- Run PC Odin and load ANC3_Kernel.tar.md5 in AP field and start.
5- Let the system reboot. You may get some force closings after the reboot but ignore them.
6- Run the towelroot app and make it rain!
7- Reboot to download mode.
8- Run PC Odin and load AOB1_Kernel.tar.md5 in AP field and start.
9- Let the system reboot.
10- Run the SuperSU app and let it update the binaries the "normal" way.
11- Allow it to disable knox for you.
12- If SuperSU freezes up for more than 5 minutes reboot your tablet and run it again. Everything will be fine.
13- Your tablet is rooted now.

Yes. Make sure a matching nh3 firmware is available from sammobile.com if you think you may want to go back to your existing rom at some point.
successfully updated & rooted a p905 with your instructions,
thanks for your help.
Any idea if I can flash this rom into a P905M? Thanks in advance

No, because 905M has different cellular and LTE bands and the modem is different. If you still feel adventurous and want to try it, exclude the CP tar file when you are flashing. Make sure you have your current firmware available to restore in case you soft-brick your tablet.

Thanks a lot for your reply.
I really wish to change, I mean, since Samsung stuck us on 4.2.2 so far.. I just wish, at least to get a minimal improvement.
If I get to merge things to have a P905 rom working on my P905M it would be an achievement in direction to break the P905M rom prison.
It worked!
Now I have the latest firmware into my P905M.
Thanks!

Thank you so much! I've been worried about rooting without tripping knox and this worked perfectly.
One question... If I didn't want to upgrade, could I have just flashed the two firm ware to root?
One of the clearest rooting guides I've used.
Thanks,

No because the second firmware in step 8 should match the existing kernel on your device.

After, and if, aboot and boot are flashed, the rest should get flashed with no issues.
99% of the time this kind failure is either due to a bad USB cable or unnecessary physical movement of the device (which affects the connection) during the flashing process.
So my suggestion is:
1- Make sure you have the latest Samsung drivers installed.
2- Find the best quality cable you have and use that.
3- If the problem persists download another firmware (maybe from another region) and try flashing that.
Hope this helps.

The firmware you are trying to flash is a LEAK. Follow this steps:
1. Download the latest firmware android 4.4.2 Russia (SER): HERE and unzip it.
2. Boot your device in DOWNLOAD MODE and flash the firmware via ODIN (unticking Auto-reboot option). Take out the battery when you see PASS in green (like in the pic attached).
3. Put in the battery again and boot in Recovery Mode - Wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition.
4. Select option: Reboot system now.
5. It should boot android 4.4.2 normally.

took another cable and did regular upgrade with latest 5.0.1 for Russia, Odin stopped again, then i took the cable out and put it back. Odin was still working and everything was fine, still downloading smth in the phone, phone had text - "renewing 291 programs" and when counter reached 291, phone just rebooted with the old UI . Now i have old system back and Recovery is working. Should i follow your procedure to downgrade, cause i still dont like Lollipop?
