Hi all,
1st post in this forum, I have a samsung s3 and am forever flashing custom roms, have a chance of getting
a nexus 4 cheap-ish and will have to get rid of my s3 to pay for it. But have a couple of questions.
1 - Will i notice a big difference in speed, battery use and camera?
2. Is it easy to root and install custom roms?
I quite often flash cm/aosp roms on my s3, and although they have come a long way, still have the odd problem because of
samsung closed sources, have flashed ported kitkat 4.4 roms and they are a big improvement but still???
At the moment running Liquidsmooth aosp and its then best ive tried but still get the odd stutter on my 1gb ram based S3.
So anybody got any advice should i go for it?
cheers

You can get the N5 for around 200 bucks on ebay. I'm using both(N4 and N5) and I can totally recommend the N5 for Android enthusiastics. But the N4 is fine too.
I would go for the n5 for just a bit more money.
Hi, which rom is the best for performance on the Note 3?

It depends on individual usage. Im currently inter-swtiching on Stock S5 port ROM by Jamal and g00h. The ROM is fast and stable.

Do you want TouchWiz based and have all Samsung features? Do you want AOSP based like CM etc?
If you want to game etc, then look at changing kernels and tweaking you can read about kernel tweaking HERE - No one can tell you which is the best for "performance" as no one has any idea what you use your device for..

I honestly really don't mind either having samsung stock or cm, just one that will give best performance, but yeah I have been through like 10 different custom roms and each one has their issues, like nfc issue, battery issue, etc.
Also how do people get 50,000+ on antutu with the same n9005 device?
S5 port by gooh and C-Rom are my personal preference.

Antutu (version 5 is reporting incorrectly so people who think they are getting 50-60K actually are not.. lol) means nothing, don't even bother. - In regards to ROM battery isn't the ROM itself really, it'st the kernel. Use a custom kernel and have a look at how to tweak it for better battery performance.

Thanks! Yeah I'm currently on Jamal's S5 port for Note 3 and I was on Lean Kernel and experienced a bit of battery drain, but on Ultimate Kernel V72 I get better performance and better battery life!
Lean Kernel Battery after 12hrs major usage: 35%
Ultimate Kernel V72 after 12hrs major usage: 60%

Yeah, I'm currently on Jamal's S5 port! It is amazing. I'm not on C-rom cause it hasn't been updated in a while (meaning minor bugs and performance fixes are still present).
tweaked rom
i find the tweaked rom by gooh most interesting with performance and my second option is echoe rom
I've had an S3 for about 1.5 years now, and an S2 before that. I was really contemplating getting something other than a Samsung now, but nothing really sparks my interest for the price. I have CM12 installed on my S3 right now and it works pretty good.
I was wondering for those of you who upgraded from an S3, is the experience pretty much the same, or is the device much faster? Lag wise on a custom ROM? I know that CM12 on the S5 right now has problems with MMS, and low volume on video recording, which will hopefully be fixed soon...
What I want to know is: for those of you who upgraded from an S3, how would you compare it? Is it worth the upgrade (using a custom ROM, not TouchWiz), and if so, why? I'm worried that I'll get an S5, install CM12, and it'll be exactly the same (obviously there's minor differences between all Samsung devices, but still). I was hoping it would have less lag and just be snappier all around. That, plus the bigger battery, bigger screen, and better camera.
Thanks!
I did this update to S5 some month ago.
1 week ago I flashed my S5 and its awesome!
Fast, mostly stable and the upgrade, so I think, is it worth it.
It's a better phone man.
My battery works like 2 Days on RR

I recently bought a 900T (T-Mobile S5) and I have used the S3 a lot at work so here's my experience: the device runs much faster, the screen is bigger, more detailed (1080p vs S3's 720p) and looks greater. Camera is a definite upgrade, quality is superb. Other areas feel the same. Battery life depends but I feel like the S3's endurance lasts longer.
Thanks for the input guys. Master619 are you running a custom ROM on your S5?

No I'm on stock 5.0 (G900TUVU1DOB1) and not rooted (pretty much vanilla).
// Edit: note that I'm using some background utilities (screen on by proximity, swipe for home button,...) so they can affect battery life as well.
Hello all. I've recently acquired an i9506 and would like to run an OS that's completely stable and offers the ultra power saving setting. I was reading in the 9506 dev forum and there seems to be a lot of argument in threads about supposedly stable ROMs with people claiming they're not.
I think what I've understood is I need to flash the official Lollipop first, then go to a port of the s5 rom, is that right?
If anyone's been through the process recently and is prepared to share the knowledge from what looks like hours of reading I'd be grateful of a how-to.
Many thanks,
Alex
I'm in the same boat, this is for my gf's I9506. Tried that S6 port which has a lot of instabilities and battery drains pretty quickly. I'm trying temasek's CM12.1 next as I trust him from my old I9300. Hoping for less bugs and better battery life!
