How much is my cracked screen s6 edge plus worth? - Galaxy S6 Edge+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My s6 edge plus cracked because I dropped it from my kitchen and now I wanna sell it . How much is the fair price for such condition? If I keep and use it, will it crack further down the road (assuming i won't drop it again). Attached are photos of the phone. It's T Mobile by the way.

You could just replace the screen yourself.

Search on ebay for your model number. Then, near the bottom of the left pane check the "Sold items" option. Scan the results for phones with cracked/broken screen. That will tell you what it's worth.

[Q] Which replacement screen/digitizer/housing??

I'm reposting this as a question, so that it gets bumped back to the front page (was sitting on page 6 after just over 1 complete day), and to hopefully get more views and some help. Thanks.
*************
So last week, I accidentally dropped my naked note 3 about 1.5 feet to a concrete sidewalk. Very little visible damage on the outside, but sadly, over the span of about 24hrs, the screen slowly faded to black (starting from the bottom left, where the most ammount of damage is visible, across the screen in a circular pattern), and now the screen appears to be completely dead. During the time in which the screen went black, the digitizer still worked, as I could still get the phone to register spen clicks on even the black areas of the screen (i.e. i could still get air command to pop up). There is also zero damage to the glass itself. No scratches, skuffs, or marks of any type. Looks brand new. And I've already tried getting the warranty to cover this. Its not.
So I'm currently in the market for a replacement screen/digitizer/housing assembly, should the repair centre quote me more than $275 + taxes to fix.
I'm going with a complete housing, because while I'm sure its simply the LCD screen portion that's no longer working, those in themselves cost upwards of $250. And it would require me to seperate the glass from the housing/digitizer, and then reseal them with the new one. I figured it would be much more cost effective to simply buy the whole package pre-assembled for $25 more.
Problem is, you can get different housing part numbers depending on which version of the phone you have (verizon, at&t). So my question is this:
Will it matter if I purchase the cheapest version? As an example, the AT&T black housing is 275, but the Verizon Black housing is 289. The last thing i want to do is fork over the money and find I ordered the wrong part.
I'm from Canada, and sadly our carriers are never recognized in these bloody situations. I'm with Bell, and I'm 'fairly' certain its identical to AT&T, but I wanted peoples opinions from here, as you are by far the most knowledgable about parts/hardware etc.
I'm SO choked at myself for being careless. My phone seemed to be flawless, and didn't exhibit any of the faults other people complained about (screen discoloration, all the functions like multi-window, one-handed operation, etc. not working). And now I've gone and forced open heart surgery on the thing.
I was looking here for the part:
http://www.etradesupply.com/samsung.html
As you can see, they have multiple models listed, and I just need to know if I'm selecting the right one.
(I also think that AT&T is my best choice, because after opening up the phone down to the motherboard and other parts, AT&T is printed all over the place. But I could be reading more into that than I should).

[Q] Badly scratched screen

Hey all,
So I've learned the hard way that gorilla glass is not very good at resisting scratches. My new note 4 has some pretty long scratch marks along the screen and my phone has always been in my empty pocket.
Anyway, the screen protector finally arrived and this may go some way to hide the visible scratches, however based on the galaxy note 3, can the glass on these phones be replaced? And would Samsung charge the earth for such a thing to be done?
Regards
Yeah it is possible. I have done it for the note 3. Here is a video explaining the process: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HwrSdrySqec. It is very important if you try to replace just the glass to take your time as to not break the screen. Good luck.
If you take it to Samsung they replace the entire display and will probably cost around $300.

I don't know which carrier you are using, but if you have the insurance, I would simply use it, typically its $50 bucks or so, atleast in my experience. I fully intend to use it myself if anything happens, even so far as loosing warranty support on the device for playing with it, i'd run over it with a car and get a refurb before anything.

Want to buy have hesitations because of cracking , help !

I could swear i picked the right forum (Questions & Answers) , seems i didn't , someone delete this thread . i will repost !
Help me out here bro's .. for a whole week i have watched hundreds of reviews and drop tests etc , i like the S7 Edge but i am terrified of that glass screen on the front side cracking by itself without drops acording to many people on the web, i normally use cases on all my phones but with this model i'm afraid that its edge will be easy to crack if dropped in a certain position with a case , it is not a cheap phone and if i pay this much i want to be sure that is a bit tough and won't have to be in service centers a hundred times , what are your experiences with it , i am stressing between S7 Edge and the HTC 10 full metal body and its resistance Thanks.
I had same hesitations as you have even with a spigen tough armor case. I have broken a S6 edge plus in past and vowed not to buy a edge phone. Stayed long time with My Note4, the longest phone i have ever kept for 2 years.
S7 Edge is fragile. and if u are not careful yes you will break the screen if u have fumbling hands like me. I have bought a Otterbox Defender case for my s7 edge. it looks bigger, feels heavy, touch might not be as smooth as one without a case
The best reason for otterbox defender was built in screen protector, its not glass mind you but work fine. I dropped my phone from around 4ft height but not even a single scratch on the case or phone...
That is the only case i use most of the time , although i have 4 more like Spigen Tough Armor, and the Original flip cover, but im not a fan of flipcovers, not my taste. I also have Samsung Accidental Warranty replacment for screen 1 time if i break it
The warranty plus the otterbox for me was the only combo that makes me feel safe.
Many would disagree and say they think its best not to use screen protector and have the best of edge screen. But a little compromise makes me feel comfortable to throw around my phone on table , in car , on bed etc without worrying that i might break it.
So in the end other cases can give u Semi type protection. but be careful as if it falls on floor u will surely damage the phone... I have no regrets . amazing phone , killer camera and screen on time. i get around 6 to 7 hours screen on time mostly
Dropped my phone multiple times from different heights. Thank God UAG saves my phone.

So far not even a scratch on my s7 edge. Even after like 2-3 drops maybe. It is a really durable phone. Everything is nice and solid. Best phone I had so far. Even Note 4 had a unbreakable glass, as well as Galaxy S6. But S7 Edge has the best glass out of them all.
i have been using a Spigen Crystal Shell on my S7 edge since day 1. Brilliant protection. Haven't dropped the phone thankfully yet but the crystal shell has these air cushion bumps that are pronounced on all 4 corners.
i have mine in a vrsdesign case, got it from amazon for under £10, and with my job im constantly climbing in /out on top and under machines, and mines hasnt broke i think theyre more durable than people think, just look after it properly, too many people are careless with devices these days

It wasn't deleted. it was moved to the Q&A forum, where it should have been posted

I'll close it, and leave this one open. But I will also move this one to Q&A.
As for the screen glass, it doesn't crack on it's own. It never has, and never will.
If you worry about that, you may as well not buy any phone in case it smashes.
I've never had a screen protector or case on any of my flagship smartphones, for the last 10 years or so, and never had a smashed screen.
I've even dropped my S7E a few times onto concrete, and barely left a mark.
Mine broke on its own. but don't worry, its only $260 to replace it by samsuck and it will no longer be water resistant.
On it's own?
Sorry but I just can't see how that would ever happen with Gorilla Glass 4.
My S7 Edge Lens cover broke on its own. And the display cracked on the edge recently. Still working perfectly as the shattered pieces are held together by the ScreenGuard - Best ScreenGuard by GadgetzShield.
They don't break in their own unless you put pressure on the screens or your phone is faulty and overheating. Does mine a few times with a Spigen case and it's all good. Maybe there are imperfections in the glass as edge screens are not perfectly flat and hard to make. Each one is unique.

Yes. The Display edge cracked on fall. The camera lens cover is fragile.
It is doubtful that you need another person telling you that the phone is worthwhile, but I'm going to anyway
As mentioned previously, Gorilla Glass 4 is very durable. NO phone is meant to be dropped without consequence, save for maybe the "Active" series. That said, I just received my Spigen Neo Hybrid Crystal case, and I threw on a Skinomi tech skin (for cases, not full coverage).
I too watched a ton of videos, looked at a lot of case reviews, etc. Many of which showed shattered backs, cracks, etc. I'm extremely careful with my devices because I believe in only buying them once. I'm not careless enough to drop my phone from 20 feet, or something ridiculous like that. If you are a normal person, who takes care of their electronics, the demise of this phone need not be feared.
I have a s7 edge and my only concern is that at some point Samsung will decide that it will not update the software any more or bring software features which will come to the newer devices. The hardware is great. The update policy is bad and it makes you feel like you have an old device even if the hardware is perfectly fine.

Can just the front glass be replaced on an S8+?

Please see the attached photo.
I have asked various local places for repair costs for it.
They are telling me they would need to replace the body, front panel and back panel, costing £230-£260 total.
Are they correct?

If u have broken the front glass, it means you need the OLED replacement. Only the front panel. should be changed.
However, £250 seems reasonable, as for my S8 they asked for 85 omr. (i.e. £200).
Take my advise its not worth replacing with that much cost. Your screen seems fine with just minor crack. Just put a SOFT protection screen (NOT the tempered one). After few days you will just start to ignore the crack. I have managed to use my S8 with broken screen for over a year now.

Unfortunately, it's more than just a crack. There's a small hole where some of the glass has fallen out.

That's the thing with OLED display, its a curse.
See mine, i have it just below Bixby button.
Just try a Soft TPU screen film for few days and see if you get used to it, just as I did. You can get a good one for 5-10$ on Amazon.
guys i used a full screen temp glass and loca glue on mine cracked
came out all right and strengthens the broken section

How I destroyed my S10+ after 3 weeks of use.

So, here we go, this happened last night and this whole day was a mess, I never felt so bad in years, this got to me heavily, so here goes.
I got the S10+ 128 GB 3 weeks ago, on Nov. 15 to be more exact.
Put a case on it (a cheap one for the time being as I was very low on money at the time).
No screen protection aside from the one which came with the phone.
Last night was the first time I ever dropped it, it was about a half a meter drop as I dropped it from my waist level on a stair. Phone cracked in the right upper corner but it's a very very small crack, and the phone went completly dark, aside from one centimeter of the upper part of the phone.
The strange reason is that sometimes, the always on display background pops up with the proper time and date. But most of the times, when I press the power buton, there's just a flash and that's it. I got Samsung Care, phew, so it will cost me about 60-70 bucks to fix it. Still, look at this, is the screen completly gone? Maybe just a sensor that would be easily replaced (I don't mind the crack in the screen that much).
I'll attach some photos and a short clip about the flash down below.
What do you guys think? Thanks in advance for reading this much and have a wonderful day!

That's really unfortunate especially since you've had it less than a month. What suprises me is even with Samsung Care you'll still have to shell out $60 - $70. How much did the Samsung Care addon cost? With the prices of top drawer devices these days I'm really careful since repairs aren't cheap not to mention the down time.

The Samsung Care+ addon is 8 dollars a month, and I get two yearly replacements no matter what it is, for 65 dollars each. I'm very surprised too because anywhere I looked, it was for free. But it seems to be different in Romania

I dropped mine last week, on a parking lot. Screen got punctured exactly at the same place as yours, and the screen is "dead" but for some reason always on display kinda works and shows the charging status.
I have no insurance, not sure what will I do now. Phone was 399€ and the cheapest repair quote has been 309€. Might attempt the repair myself, but the original screen is not cheap..
Sorry to hear this.
Have a case ready before you use the phone.
Good protection doesn't cost a lot; you can get a Bolt case for around $20.
It's saved my Note 10+ many times in the last year. A half dozen or so drops on concrete usually from about 3 feet.
Actually on my second case although the first one looks new I noticed some shininess on the one corner that indicates possible fatigue in the urethane. Better safe than sorry, 10+'s wuv to corner hit when dropped. I never use this phone without a case; this case makes it easier to hold and use.
Hopefully and probably it's just the display that got nailed.

I've always had a case, if the phone drops screen facing down and the surface is hard and uneven the case won't do anything. And tempered glass screen protectors don't work well with curved screens. I still had the original plastic protector, and it got punctured with the impact. So yeah, always be careful

That sucks, sorry to hear about it.
Only so much you can do. That was a hard impact. Definitely can happen.
The most you can do is have a case with slightly raised guards on all sides preferably with higher ones on the top/bottom. Using the included belt clip adds another layer of protection to the Bolt though I rarely use it. It's well protected like that though.
The factory protector/case saved my screen from a piece of rough angle aluminum. It marred the protector but didn't penetrate it. That was a drop of about 3 feet (it corner hit before face planting on the angle) otherwise the outcome wouldn't have been as good. That was the 2nd day I had the phone... of course.
I was sweating bullets until the day I removed the screen protector and realized it had done its job.
I now wear only military BDU's with button cargo side pockets. These work well with the pocket unbuttoned to hold the phone except when taking them off... always something.
