Check again if the MHL is using 11 pins micro USB.
Note 4 only use 11 pins MHL.
And if your TV supports MHL natively then you don't need power cable.

Microusb to usb adapter

My usb port in my tab is messed up and ive found out theres microusb to usb adapters i ordered one but it doesnt fit correctly into the microusb part of my tab so i'm wondering if any of you have a microusb to usb adapter that works for this tab if so can you let me know.
I don't have such an adapter but i think this won't work, because the micro usb port has no sb host capability. It's only there to connect the tab to a pc.

I have a micro usb to usb adapter and it does not recognize my usb drive when I connect it. I have also tried using the factory micro usb to usb cord and attached a female to female usb adapter to the end and then connected my usb drive to the end of that and the tablet still doesn't recognize it either.
As i said before, this won't work, because the micro usb of tha a500 does not support usb host functionallity.

Actually what you said was "I think think this won't work". I said it won't.
Thanks for helping me out.

[Q] HDMI cable issues with s4

I recently bought 2 of this cable:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...0-20&m1k=vb_ac
which has an MHL connector for the phone on one end and an HDMI and usb connection for power on the other.
I have a rooted S4 (no custom roms, stock except for rooting) on verizon. I'm on 4.2.2
With both cables I cannot get the device to work. THere's no charging (using the standard samsung charger brick) and no video. I've tried both cables on multiple HDTVs (mine at home are 7 years old so I thought maybe a newer TV, but I Tried one at work as well). I tried rebooting the phone but that didn't work. Is there anything I need to do with the phone. THe reviews make it sound like the cable is plug and play.
Any thoughts?
Hello,
Seems that Galaxy S4 HDMI out works only with original Samsung MHL adapter

It's because you are rooted.
I unrooted and it still didn't work. I bit the bullet and ordered the samsung adapter for 30 bucks.

Simultaneous use of OTG and mhl

Greetings,
How can I get simultaneous use of OTG and mhl to work on my S5? SM-G900I
Thanks!
I have the Samsung Smart Dock, which provides that and works with the Note 4 (and some earlier Notes and Galaxy S). The water resistant port cover stops me from trying it with the S5 though, and I don't want to take that off right now. Unfortunately it's not easy to get an extension cable to try it either, due to the custom pin layout used for MHL on the S3 onwards.
@arghness thanks for the input - I found conflicting feedback saying it doesn't work with the S5. what is the model number for the smart dock you have? I'd really appreciate if you could give it a go
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-Smart-Multimedia-Active/dp/B009QW3TBK#Ask
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/EDD-S20JWEGSTA
Samsung Smart Dock EDD-S20JWE, EDD-S20KWK, EDD-S20JWEGSTA, EDD-S20EWEG, EDD-S20EWE,
There are quite a few model number associated with this dock
Compatible with the Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S4, and Galaxy Mega (Not compatible with Galaxy Note 3 or Galaxy S 5)
Ah, okay. There are definitely posts (and videos) of it working with a Note 4 and I've actually had mine working with a Note 3.
On my S5, I can't even get the dock far enough in to the port for charging, due to the port protecting flap. Even without that, it might be an issue because the port is recessed in to the body so that the flap is flush with the outside of the case.
I still get the feeling that all the support is still there, if we could get a working extension cable. There's this: http://www.usbfirewire.com/Parts/rr-mhl-ext-xxg.html but I've heard that it doesn't even work properly with Note 2 (from an XDA post).
You're probably out of luck, sorry. I was hoping to be able to get it working as well.
hmm..okay, i've bought the smart dock, will give it a go when it arrives

It looks like the S5 does not support simultaneous use of OTG and MHL as samsung implemented a 5-pin mini usb connector. Unlike the S 3/4 and note 2/3/4 where 11-pins mini usb connector enable simultaneous use of OTG and MHL. I don't understand why Samsung downgraded the S5.

I don't think it is possible
More info here:
http://www.galaxymhl.com/
Samsung probably downgrade S5 to a standard 5-pin micro usb connector to ensure broad compatibility with mhl adapater - this also prevented simultaneous use of OTG and mhl since in a 5 pins usb connector the same signalling wires are use for both mhl and usb-otg.
the S5 implement micro usb 3.0, I'm wondering if there is any adapter out there that can convert this into a 11-pin micro usb 2.0 connector??

That post doesn't say that MHL/OTG isn't possible with the S5, it doesn't mention the S5 at all. The pages I've seen seem to indicate that it's still 11 pin:
https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=s5+11+pin&oq=s5+11+pin
And other pages indicate that it can do MHL and have power, but that power is optional, unlike the S3:
http://blog.clove.co.uk/2014/02/05/mhl-adapter-samsung-galaxy-need/
They don't say whether OTG can be done concurrently, though, but I don't see why not.
I have a "11pin mhl v1.0 to hdmi adapter cable" that works fine with mirroring my S5 (SM-G900I lollipop) to an HDMI Display (Monitor or TV). The cable doesn't have usb input to test otg at the same time though. This cable also charges my S5 while mirroring.
I am interested in using my S5 as a desktop pc so would like to know if any one has had success with mirroring thier S5 on a TV/Monitor and using a Mouse & Keyboard at the same time!!!
TIA
any updates? Have someone found an adapter that does mhl and otg at the same time.... I have tried one adapter that does not work and asks several sellers on ebay about other adapters and all said either they don't know or it does not work simultaneously....
No adapter but you can use samsung sidesync between phone and pc.
sidesync? I want to convert my phone into a desktop/tv box and I don't want to use bluetooth
sidesync converts your phone in to an android pc using your pc's monitor, mouse, keyboard through usb cable or wifi. Your phone will display on the monitor like screen mirroring and you use your pc's mouse and keyboard to navigate and type.
sidesync wont work with tv because you need to install sidesync on pc.
ah ok thx interesting but it defeats the purpose of autonomy

Usb-C adapter won't enable Dex Mode

Hi all, I've tested an usb-c adapter, to get Dex mode without pay 140€ in my country. But with this adapter I can't trigger Dex mode on setting, I can only get screen mirror, even with the charger.
Is there a trick to bypass, this kind of detection?
I think, like Galaxy s8 there is something that trigger this feature when Dex/Compatible adapters, are connected.
you will need USB-C to HDMI+2 USB3.0 with Power delivery port... without power delivery port it will just mirror your phone.. if you have one.. connect power to the adapter.. that should in theory trigger the dex mode

On the last image, near the ethernet port there is the usb-c port to charge my device, i've used my original charger, s8 charger and macbook charger (the usb-c one), but nothing, also i can't see the option to change mirror to dex in settings...
Same thing here!
I believed that my Hub doens't support quick charge or something similar, just normal "slow" charge even when it's connected to original charger, and for this it does not trigger the dex mode only mirror.
I got a USB-C hub CB-C55 from AUKEY and was not happy trying to have DeX =(
Maybe it's because it does not have fast charge
Let me try using a most powerful charger...
No. Nothing happened. =/
Samsung DeX with S8/S9/Note8 only works with a DeX Station.
Only the Note9 works with a normal USB-C to HDMI cable
My S9+ does it just fine with one of the dex capable USB c hubs.
Is there any Type C to HDMI Hub apart from Official Dex Pad which anyone found working for Dex mode?
Please suggest so that it will be really helpful to others before buying.
Thank you.

Hi Mate, can you share the model of dex-mode compatible hub?
Thanks
This one:
Splaks USB C Hub 7 Port.

Look for something called "Melopow M002" on ebay. Cheap usb-c hub that will enable DeX mode, at least works for my S8+.

Or go to AliExpress and search for " usb-c hub switch dex"
Many options there...

I've bought this one:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/USB...ngle-To-HDMI-4K-with-RJ45-PD/32903071866.html
and it does not work too (S9+). I've tried different chargers and two different displays.
Just gonna use a HDMI hub
You could install android 9 and it will work with standard usb c - HDMI cable I do this all the time and works great!

I've tried three different unpowered cables and they only mirror the phone. Seems it still does not trigger Dex unless it's a powered hub.
It worked in the leaked early beta but not with the two latest official builds (CRLI and CRLO).
Linux on Galaxy beta does not work as intended either on S9+. Can download Ubuntu but throws errors after unpacking.

So what you are saying is after you update your S9 Plus to latest official Pie build, DeX mode isn't working with non official convertors, such as type-c to hdmi adapter ?

Does Oneplus 8 have the v4l2 linux subsystem that supports OTG web cams?
Software support is finicky between manufacturers (some just didn't implement it)
Can anyone test their Oneplus 8 pros with an OTG webcam?
You can use this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shenyaocn.android.usbcamera
Yea the OnePlus does support usb-c to hdmi
Also the usb-c to display port cables.
Audio works.
Display link hubs will also work.

I don't use webcams. Don't have one. I wouldn't have thought so, would require a functional driver..
