How many Android versions later? - OnePlus 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How many "major" android version updates is OnePlus 2 going to get, officially, from OnePlus?
Will it get Android N?
[I read that OnePlus One struggled to even get a stable Lollipop 5.1 build, for a long time!
But, anyway, atleast it is one of the officially supported devices of CyanogenMod and the others.]
I've ordered my OnePlus 2, but this is the only thing that's worrying me.

Are we getting Android 5.0? Rumors, links, etc..

After only a day from the official presentation from Google, there are already rumors tnat note 2 will get the Android 5.0, or so called Android L.
This is the first link i came across that it has info about that:

Please comment and share thoughts about the update.

I think we will get cm, aokp based roms but i really doubt about official samsung update. You should trust samsung with this
For me no doubt, that we will get it cause N2 is so popular even after nearly 2 years and Samsung will produce and sell this device surely one more year :good:
I really doubt of an official samsung update.... but let's hope....
Honestly I'd prefere a kernel update on the kitkat release.... and some open sourcing of the exynos ****.... :crying::crying:
Suppose we could hope? Even for KK 4.4.2 or 4.4.3 ota soon?
No we won't get it. It's not the matter of popularity of the device or anything. It's that each manufacturer must provide at least 18 months of support or 3 major updates. We got ourselves 4.1.2, 4.3 and 4.4.2. So yeah, the support for the device is over. Samsung has stop support for S3, so it's our turn now

4.4.4 seems to be arriving on numerous tablets and phones. Great for some.

we are lucky enough to get kitkat.
I am pessimistic about Samsung coding and releasing another update for such an old phone. Even though its pretty powerful and popular .

Yeah I'm sure that we'll get it via Omni, CM, aosp roms, but I'll miss the tw.

i apologize if i'm off topic
i have htc desire HD and with the help and roms of this site i like my phone again
I found Note II in a special price (the 4G edition) and i wanna ask if it is the right decision to purchase it or to go for the samsung S4
I know the differences between this two phones. I just don't want to buy a phone near its end of life
Thank you
Kostas
My S4 i9506 still didnt get KK and you here asking for android L? You should be grateful that samsung remembered it has a device called note 2
Samsung? forget it...
CM or aosp worth looking forward to
I wonder when CM AOSP or OMNI release come since 4.4 I am using mostly aosp based roms . and they are taking one more step ahead every day. I didnt miss tw
Well landing of 4.4 has been a major achievement post all the rubble created.
5.0 will definitely not be delivered to Note 2.
How else will you be motivated to buy those expensive plastic devices

Not before it's official release which will be in a few months (hopefully).
Having 4.4.2 kernel sources may allow future 5.x AOSP builds for N710x

First things first it is android M
And why worry about future android versions the phone is now 2 months old?
OnePlus is a very young company and I expect they would like to have their customers to buy another phone that is made by them.
And the fact that you paid half the price of a similar spec phone it is the least of my worries.
I have owned a lot of smartphones and my opinion is if i get two years of official support from OnePlus I would be very happy.

I don't think that OnePlus has made any commitment regarding either of its devices.

End of the road for us

hi
see below link one plus has discountinued the X
sad news we are dead end of the road for US :crying::crying::crying:
link : http://www.fonearena.com/blog/18830...now-focus-on-true-flagship-line-only-ceo.html
We'll still get N and I may end up picking up a Nexus down the road anyway. End of the road for OnePlus but most definitely not for us
I'm getting another year out of this at least
Great phone though. I have a few tricks up my sleeve still
That means NO Android M OxygenOS 3.0
So that also means OPX get no Android M OxygenOS 3.0 ? OnePlus One allready got Marshmellow for testers sound Kind of UNFAIR.
Anyway Installed Resurrection Remix 5.7.0 Android 6.0.1
If this Happends that 5.1.1 is the Last Update Unfair Support for the Onyx.
Thanks #OnePlus
No..

No... They are going to provide support for at-least two year after product launch ...so will be getting MM for sure (don't know when ) and may be "N"...for Oxygen OS
Hopefully :/ , i can't wait for OxygenOS i think we will get Android N soon and when not Official by OP than by CyanogenMod 14 or AOSP based Roms
it just means there will be no Oneplus X2. that is all. it does not affect oneplus X in anyway.
I wonder if the opened kernel sources would give a boost to oneplus X custom ROM development as well?
It means no mid spec device in the same form factor. It doesn't mean there'll be no high spec device in the same form factor.
However, having used a OnePlus One for a few days, and having had the OnePlus X for about a week now, I'll be in absolutely no rush to buy another one of their devices. There are far better Chinese options these days.

You really believe this? Maybe the phone will get 2 or 3 more security updates, but that's all... it's dead in OnePlus' eyes, only the community will keep this phone alive.

Future updates for Nexus 6P

I am thinking of buying the nexus 6p in the upcoming flipkart sale. If I remember correctly, it was released with Android M. Now it has got N. Google has promised 2 new versions to each phone. So will the 6p get Android O whenever it releases?
I know Pixels are around the corner but I am quite sure that I won't be able to afford it right now.

Here is the EOL of the Nexus products.
https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/4457705#nexus_devices
Looks like "September 2017" for the 6P. But there will be lots of custom ROMs after the EOL. I love my Nexus and will not be upgrading to a new phone for years.
Yes we should get Android O if that is your question.

That is what I love and hate about Android phones. It's almost as if Google is bullying you into buying a new phone every 2 years. The hardware is more than capable of running newer Android versions unless future releases are 10 years ahead of the hardware, which I doubt will ever be the case in our lifetime. Google should really think about those of us who don't wanna buy a new phone every 2 years. I'm generally speaking from those people who do not root to get custom builds.

Android O

So the previews are out for official devices..
And I hate to be that guy, but... We have the same SoC as the Pixel. Can it be ported without the source code?
If I'm being a derp, feel free to close/delete the thread.
I wanna know too.
Probably it can't! Having the same soc doesn't mean nothing, many devices had nexus 6p soc (SD 810) but none of them had the previews ported to them, there is no sources to build it.
And believe me, there's nothing interesting on the O preview for now, is far away from being stable.
No.
Even if it were possible, it would be reference only (not stable) considering its base is a developer preview (not even beta) you'd be best watching a YouTube video....
https://youtu.be/soeiJsnSzu0
But i highly doubt it is achievable and most certainly not worth any time or effort if it is.....
Just wait and buy the new Pixel (or whatever it may be called) then you'll have O most probably.....
Or buy a pixel & flash the available image......But even then i wouldn't use it as a daily....

i see it this way: same stuff ,different name
I believe the developer builds are available to OEMs. Oneplus could make those beta builds but I wouldn't hold my breath. You'll just have to wait 3 years like the rest of us.

No,it's not possible.
OnePlus was pretty quick to put nougat and 7.1 on the 3T. Since they seem to have dropped the older phones, mostly the ones that dont support dash charge, they could have more manpower to put O on the 3T and the upcoming OnePlus 4/5. I'm optimistic about them updating although nougat hardly added anything i really care about. It appears O doesn't add much either. So even if they didn't do it in a swift manner, who cares.
When for 1+3T
dont spect anything before september for one plus 3/3t

The OP2 doesn't even have Nougat so I wouldn't be surprised if the OP3/T never gets O. It'll probably be on the OP5 in January 2018 at the earliest.
