Closing this forum / Moving it to legacy section - Xperia Play General

As the title says, do you agree about getting rid of this forum ?
As it is became so old and Sony let it down.
Please vote

Despite me moving on to a nexus 5 2 years ago and soon to another undecided phone. I have never left this forum. I would love to say that it should stay as is but as I have been on this forum since the xperia plays release and seeing how this thread was active and vibrant, I have seen it fall into a forum is low activity. It's a shame but if and when it is moved to low activity forums section, I will still probably be hanging around. Guess. I'm stubborn that way!

I agree with ozzman.... I'd hate to see this forum moved to legacy devices section. I still have it set as a favorite in my XDA app and check it regularly. However, I could understand logic behind moving it if need be due to the low activity in the forum.

Well, still using Xperia Play and closing this forum would be hurtfull.
Sony dropped Xperia Play, and closing this forum would be the same.

This place needs a bit of organization.

Im considering getting a Tab next month when im due for a upgrade. I've been using the HD2 forum for about a year (under different account, got temp banned lol).
I noticed a massive difference in the 2 sections and that's organization. HD2 has its n00bs posting random crap in random sections (which are moved after report) but for the most part its kept really organized. Now I've come to this section and no offence but this place is a real mess which im a bit gutted about as I really want a Tab but its going to be hard calling this place my new home with the current state.
For example the dev section is just a mess, Random crap posted everywhere that has nothing to do with development and should belong in the general section or Q&A if this section had one. I know there isnt much dev going on for the tab but the dev section should ideally be kept solely for posting dev work/tutorials etc.
Is there any mods assigned to this forum and is there any plans to tidy it up a bit?
PS. Sorry if ive come across as a bit of an arse, that wasn't my intention, I just wanted to say that this place really needs organising a bit.
I disagree...usually the junk gets moved to an adequate place pretty quickly. As I'm looking at page 1 of the Dev section, there are 3 posts that seem to be misplaced...hardly chaos. All the rest are directly related to Development.

Android polution: We need a dedicated Android forum.

Hi guys,
This forum was originally set-up with Windows Mobile in mind. Last few months the forum gets flooded with a lot of questions about Android, which is still in an 'early' development phase. Some questions, about GPS, Wifi, SD-card not working, have been posted numerous times and this makes the forum messy.
Some while ago I have asked admins to have a look at a dedicated Android forum, but I never got a final answer about that. It seems that Android is getting more and more popular, and therefore I think its wise to have a dedicated place for Android. So I think we really need a dedicated Android forum with clear distinction between development and user threads.
I am not sure if I am the only one that thinks this way, if not lets mobilize ourselves and get some attention from the admins to get us a nice Android forum!
Give a reply with your opinion .
I hope you mean just another section inside this forum? However, I do agree 100%, it would be nice to have an android section for us to use and flood questions in there instead.
However, the current setup is designed to allow any OS questions. Not just Windows, so I can see both sides. One, if they leave it - it leaves it open to everyone. But if they don't add sections, it could get a little messy.
I think we have to adopt the same forum format of the HD2 in the near future, I agree 100% with you, and it would be very nice to have this right now...
It's only a thing to talk with the right people here in XDA to Achieve this.
I have also informend the mods some days ago. They are aware of it and think about a solution, one have stated.
I've submitted a request to the Admins for you guys
lets see if they create a new sub section or not

Holy Forum Reorganization, Batman!

Looks like a ton of threads just got moved to Q&A -- most of the threads in the last few days, in fact. Can a mod give some guidelines as to what should be in here vs there? I always thought of Q&A as someone having a specific "how do I" question. I see a number of threads that I would think qualify as general discussion moved, such as:
What twitter app do you use and why?
Anyone else bored with their evo now?
pocket BLU app- Controlling PS3 Blu-ray with an EVO
What is sprints stance on locking phones down?
It doesn't really matter, but it seems like there's a lot of overlap between the purpose of the two forums, and I don't know if it makes sense to be slapping people on the wrist this way. Plus the "moved:" headers make the "cleaned up" forum actually look pretty cluttered to my eyes. I didn't personally have any of my threads moved and I'm not all that concerned about it. I just wanted to ask about it as a regular reader and participant in both forums. Just my opinion, but maybe if this many people are having trouble figuring out which section they should post in, maybe that indicates there doesn't need to be a separate "Discussion" and "Q&A" section at all.

I think it's pretty straight forward - does your thread start with a question? It goes in Q&A.
I think most discussions pose a question as well. The examples I linked to were ones where yes, the subject ended in a question mark, but they seemed to me to be questions intended to prompt a discussion, not questions that have a straightforward answer.

correct if it a question please post it in q&a (one is asking a question and would like an answer)
on the OP question about the clutter look of "moved" being everywhere. i put a 2 day redirect on the threads i moved because i moved so many. just in the event an op or member shows up tomorrow going "wtf happened to my favorite thread". after 2 days the redirects will be gone. till then they will just drop down as other unmoved threads are posted in.
on another note. sometimes i over look question threads in the general section due to being busy with other projects or matters. when i feel froggy or get time i like to clean it up a bit (like today). i also move EVO 3D related threads over to the EVO 3D section to clean up a bit.
hope you guys understand im just trying to do some spring cleaning

Sorry but that's an awful response, and awfully wrong.
I had a thread moved from Development to Q&A because it had a question in it... unfortunately that question was: here is some app code that isn't working, anyone have feedback/input?
That's about as dev friendly as it gets. I am starting to really dislike the mods around here.

Actually, policy is, and has been for a long time, that ANY thread that is a question (even one pertaining specifically to development) belongs in Q&A. It has been discussed MANY times before now.the reality is, it is as simple as dirty said. If you were worried about not getting eyes on your problem, you could send out a few pm's.
Edit: btw, why are you so upset? Your thread wasn't deleted, it was just moved.

IMO..you ought to redirect some of that dislike towards so many jerkface or willfully ignorant members. The ratio of mods:members is laughable at best. These guys and gals have a big job to do and do it for free.
Most of the mods are pretty cool if you just talk to them.

Interesting. I will certainly respect the rules, It just seems to me that most Discussions would start with a question...and thus the Q and A forum will now become the default place to discuss things.
It just means that users will need to follow both forums.

THIS THREAD BELONGS IN Q&A.
I just notified a mod.

Incidentally, I meant no disrespect to the mods when I posted this. I don't think toast took any offense, but I certainly don't mean to criticize him or any other mod. toast is awesome.
I still do think the line between a Q&A and a discussion can be thin, and that some of the threads that were moved were closer to a discussion than a Q&A. But it doesn't really matter and I'm not losing any sleep over it tonight.

I'm not upset, so much as I am frustrated. Lately, the mods have been spending their time moving posts around and slapping people on the wrist for posting in the wrong area. Meanwhile, they continue to let thousands of "ZOMG! Here's a question that's answered in the sticky's" and "ZOMG! WTF is [Some Term A Google Search Would Answer]?" through every day.
The forum is quickly degrading into a wild wild west and when the Sheriff's DO show up, they chase down jaywalkers instead of bank robbers.
I used to subscribe to the RSS feeds because these forums produced the best content/discoveries/knowledge... now it just produces a jet stream of crap.
I get your frustrations, man, but what did you think was going to happen when 10's of thousands of new members (often people with little tech knowledge, who heard about xda on some gadget site) started showing up? These mods are buried under an avalanche of posts everyday. Toast doing a bit of cleanup to keep things organized on top of actually monitoring the comments for abuse, etc, deserves a round of applause; instead, he gets people *****ing at him because he didn't do it in a way that pleases them. Having things posted in the right section is ultimately just as important as reducing the number of redundant threads, if for no other reason than it will make things easier to search for in the first place and (tada!) reducing the number of redundant threads! Fix the problem, not the symptom.

[Q] What happened to the theme and apps forum???

I was wondering what happened in the themes and apps subforum for the hd2, I decided to come out of the hd2 android dev forum and swing by the themes and see if there was anything new for my hd2 and shortly after being there was wondering if I was in the right forum or if they just fired the moderator because almost all of the threads I opened had nothing but irrelevant and non theme/apps discussions, I know is not from a missing moderator, they have a lot in there plate with 100s of post and threads to watch over, there's a lot of threads that should be here instead of there. Apparently a lot of the new people can't navigate to the right forum before creating a new thread that clearly shouldn't be in a forum specifically for themes and apps.
I'm sorry and I don't mean to rant but please, this goes to the newer guys that feel unsure where they need to create the thread, when they are going to post something, if you write "sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong forum" 9 out of 10 times you are in the wrong forum, so please take the time to search and ask, or send a moderator a pm if you're unsure of where you need to be so we can all help in maintaining a cleaner, more organized forum/subforums and in the same process helping each other to find what we're looking for easier.
Thanks.....RoloRacer
i don't think you are alone in this regard; i quite agree.
so many of the app threads are "where can i find this app" or "please post" or "can someone port" it gets somewhat annoying. especially as someone who has a thread that is actually a theme (and if i do say, one of the few remaining built on the hd2 that is actually being updated.)
but overall i feel like the ingenuity of hd2 as a device separate from android is near an end. for example, there is nothing special about my theme being built on an hd2; rather it is built for hdmi phones. same i assume goes for most things.
also, the fantastic themers for WM HD2 have not migrated to android. some did, but i haven't seen releases. would be interesting if more would come over.
anyways...i too find most of those threads annoying and misplaced. but in the end, if they weren't there, i am not sure really what would take their place. there really just isn't much being made on hd2s and released here in addition to the main android threads.
cheers.

Some of the Note 4 moderators need to chill.

Please understand, this is not aimed at all moderators here... Just a couple that are taking the fun out it, or are just bored. You have the power, and most often are right! But I am seeing a few over using their powers here.
I see the Verizon note 4 forums dying very quickly. Someone starts a thread about getting a new Note 4 and it gets locked because it's irrelevant..? I see someone start a thread about sprint getting lollipop, showing its coming, and it gets locked because there is a dead lollipop thread from 2 months ago that already has mentioned. But the mod is wrong... The newest lollipop thread is about sprint getting it first in the states and obviously trying to get the Vzw Note forums going again. No harm in that at all.
I am seeing these type of actions a lot in this forum by mods.
Instead the mods allow threads that state goodbye Note 4 hello Nexus 6 and others that are negative and not useful to this forum.
Give it to me guys. I bet this thread gets locked and deleted immediately. I am sorry for this, I'm just upset at the over moderating...
Although sometimes I question, taking a step back and looking at the entire pictures does make some sense as to why they are doing this.
Watching many of the posts that have been coming through, end up getting garbled into nothing but arguing, off-topic or such. They have countlessly had to re-direct and delete topics/posts due to this. Doing so makes it hard to allow other posts that have similar topic meaning as another that they do not want to have to moderate yet again. Keeping the threads down to a more centralized, easier flow of topics is what they are more likely aiming for.
This is coming from a staff member of another forums, Good day to you.
Hi Leroy, My name is Josh.
I appreciate you voicing your concern publicly on the forums.
I closed your previous seemingly duplicate thread on this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...e-4-moderators-to-chill-t3057547#post59513029
To your post. I completely respect your opinion and I want to suggest that you get in touch with the moderators if you have concerns instead of opening a thread on it. My doors are always open. As i'm sure other mods are! Shoot me a pm! We're just here doing our best to help.
Gonna close the thread since it will probably turn into a flame war.
