If 6p camera = 12mp, will you still buy?? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I will be extremely disappointed if huawei uses the same camera that's in the mate s, especially when the huawei 7 has a 21mp currently.I don't care if the phone ends up costing only $500. I currently have a note 5 and the camera is amazing.

So more MP means better picture quality to you? I would prefer 5MP over 21MP if the Sensor handles it right.

Note 5 camera could be better in low light with neon, mixed light condition. The detail loss somewhere contrast are too strong!

MP count doesn't
equate to picture quality, but it does impact some odd the Dunne details especially when you blow the picture up. I have an A7r & A7rII so I'm very familiar with the dos and don'ts of photography.

Right now the note 5 arguably has the best camera of any smart phone including the 6s.. Bottom line the nexus phones have always had crappy cameras including the nexus 6 which had an 13mp camera. The new nexus should at least match current technology which is a 16mp with f1.9 or a 21mp f2.0.. Having a 12mp is going backwards and it's probably that crappy camera in the already released, old huawei mate s

Don't care thaaat much about how many MP's a camera got. I'll go for quality instead of highest MP any day.

I like a good camera but its low on the 6P spec list for my usage.

On one hand I'd like to see a perfect sensor for 4k video (that should be 12MP no a 4:3 sensor), if possible 4k HDR video, but that should require too much power for a 21MP sensor.. on the other hand the 21MP should give more detail in good light conditions.. so all we want is the best camera on a phone to date (hardware and software wise

wish it would come with the g4 camera. omg that is the best phone camera i have ever seen. too bad i liked nothing else on the g4 lol

I take a lot of pictures of my kids, I can't always carry my high end cameras. I need something of quality

12MP is fine as long as the post processing is done correctly.

It all depends on how they process the images, I dunt expect it to be on par with my DSLR but it will certainly be better than my Nexus 6 is now.

I got mixed feelings about the nexus phone this year. May be because I no longer have crazy desire to flash new roms. Mostly try to stay as stock as possible. Even batteries have got bigger, so I find no need for custom kernels either. Camera will not be top of the line, screen I am not sure what quality it has... also when I see that Huawei is the one making the phone, I freak out. We got Google which is best information collection source for U.S and Huawei which serves Chinese government. 2 red flags

Using a 19 or 21mp camera won't necessarily improve your pictures.. by your logic, the iPhone 6S's 12mp/f2.2 camera is last generation too.. yet it consistently takes some of the best pics around

Good luck taking best quality pictures with a 12mp camera without OIS buddy.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A

I mentioned nothing about having OIS

not having OIS really makes me consider walking away... I'm going to order a 64gb as soon as they go on sale tomorrow, but I'm sure they won't ship them until October which gives me time to cancel.... I can move pass the 12mp and lack of wireless charging, but really no OIS...

same thing, i'll pre-order it tomorrow and wait for the camera's feedback of the Z5P

The notes camera

I just bought a new camera to tote around mainly for my wife. I thought it was a pretty good camera, it's a fuji 14mp point and shoot. I've had one in the past which was pretty good.
Anyway, my point being my freaking camera on my note takes much better pictures than this camera does. I would think a dedicated camera would be the winner but Samsung did a good job here.
I've seen threads past complaining about the notes camera but mine takes great pics. Needless to sat wife still asks for the phone to take pics. That was a waste of money
From the big ole Note
Try comparing the two in conditions with poor lighting, particularly in any scenario that would require a flash or longer exposure.
When it comes to camera's, opposed to what alot of people think, the amount of megapixels you have isn't important at all. What's more important is the lens, and how big it is. The lighting, shutter time etc..
Just like knightnz said, the fuji would probably come out on top in "harder" to capture pictures.
Still I have to agree, the Note takes amazing pictures.
Yea I haven't tried the note much in low light or night pics so I'll have to check it out. I understand and have always read mp mean nothing so what is the point of these higher mp counts? I mean they are coming out with a friggin 41mp camera soon on a phone at that! Why the need for high mp if they don't affect quality?

It is just for marketing purpose.

It's not like the phone takes a 2GB 41 mp jpeg lol. It's a new type of technology that combines pixles in such a way that it creates a 5-8mp file with lossless 4x zoom and greatly reduced noise.
The *real* breakthrough is the size of the lense and the amount of light it lets in. I've seen some sample pictures and it has a mean DOF effect and almost no noise.
Back to the point. The notes camera is great and it is better than a few point and shoots that my friends have, I just wish there was image stabilisation but that's just software right?

Well, the best image stabilisation is actually hardware. It is a prism that moves based on a gyroscope to compensate for all camera movements. Effectively it keeps the physical focus point where it was and moves it slowly to where it now is, avoiding the quick shake caused by your movements. Software can only compensate slightly by moving the physical focus around in a similar way in a larger recorded image.
The best I have ever had is in my Sony HandyCam. It was the bees knees when I bought it many years ago. Full 1080p video with a superb and huge Carl Zeiss lens. Dark shots were great and better than most other cameras, and it even does a fair IR night mode. The videos are very stable as long as you do not do any large swings. The 10x optical zoom is also fantastic.
Now my Note stands in, but it will never replace the HC because of the poorer dark videos, lack of zoom, and the complete lack of stabilisation. Having said that, it is used a hell of a lot more as a camera and video cam, because it is always with me!

Is there anyway we can shut camera click sound ?
The camera is good enough.
But when you see your note camera taking better pictures than stand alone point and shoot snapper, you know you have crap point and shoot camera or the person taking photographs is not taking pictures properly.
Under good light conditions, these modern snappers will match the P&S sensor quality if you know what you are doing. Picture quality varies greatly by simple choice of settings by the person taking pictures on Note. Leave it at auto and you will not get the best results in tricky conditions. You also need steady hands to get good snaps from Note camera.
But overall, its good enough to be good casual snapper.
But if you start comparing Note against even older good compact cameras like Panasonic ZS7 (which is now outdated), its not even close. These point and shoot cameras will outperform Note under any condition. Leave alone more expensive and also cameras with newer better sensors available today.
The good thing about Note camera is that it takes more than decent pictures with relatively accurate colour reproduction unlike some other phone cameras.

There is a rather crappy digital zoom that happens when you press the volume button and swipe your finger across the slider that appears.. like here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7abTRUO4WQ
(ignore the girl lol)
In other areas: I realise now that the stabilisation is hardware but you'd be SO suprised at how much software effects the video quality. I have 2 examples.
My old HD2 on windows mobile or android had TERRIBLE low light quality, frame rate dropped down to 9/10 fps, image noise was just unacceptable. -->
Updated to windows phone 7, and low light was quality is insane now. did not drop a single frame. The quality even went up to full 720p (which was not possible before)
I've even made some short movies with it because the low light was so good.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZP68dAtn14 and the non "8mm style" shots in here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JQVeeZL4aQ
(sorry not trying to drop videos here but just so you get my point)
Second example is my transformer prime. Same thing. On Honeycomb terrible fps in low light and a whole heap of noise ---> ICS update and the camera was a different beast.
My point is, software is very important in mobile cameras. Once we get ICS, we can start complaining or praising properly

LG G3 vs Sony Xperia Z2 Camera

I am interested in both these phones and am having trouble deciding due to the various camera reviews.
I am specifically interested in how each camera handles moving objects like kids or pets running as this is what I take most pics of.
Please post any samples here. Thanks kindly.
Edit - please don't post any YouTube links. I have watched every video comparing the two. Real world results are much better for everyone here.

I didn't have the Z2, but I had the Z1 and it was by far the worst camera I had used on any phone. All the pics had a huge amount of noise and tended to look painted. When the Kit Kat update came and there was no improvement I moved on from the Z1. Seeing as the Z1 and Z2 have the same camera I imagine it's the same situation with the Z2.
The G3 camera is at the opposite end of the spectrum and delivers the best still shots I have seen on a phone, certainly comparable to a dedicated camera. Absolutely no regrets moving on from the Z1 or M8 to this phone.

z2 camera
I have to say I have a z2 and it is by far the BEST camera I have ever used in a smart phone. -MOD EDIT- and no swearing please. It has been rated the best camera on the market over the I phone. And where the person said the pictures looked painted it's because the pictures are really that clear. They are so crystal clear that they don't look real. I had an s4 which was a 13 mp camera which was very good but this z2 in auto mode which is only 8mp and it takes beautiful pictures. And yes the comparison where it won was compared in 8mp mode so the playing field was even. You can shoot in 15.5 and 20.7 mp modes and it shoots amazing motion pictures. I take lots of pictures of my dogs playing and running and jumping and there is no noise and blows away the htc one m8 and the galaxy s5.I don't think the g3 could possibly take better pictures. I haven't used one because it's not available but trust me sony makes absolutely amazing phone cameras. They probably made the ones on the g3 and s5.but the z2s is a higher megapixel. And it's on a Sony product.
I hope the Z2 is way better than Z1, because Z1 is just an ok cam.

Actually I said the Z1 was the worst phone camera I had used as it had a lot of artifacting and noise. I can imagine there might have been some improvement with the Z2. Heck I was taking better pictures with the M8 than with my Z1.
This is not my opinion alone, take a look at some of the earlier posts in the Z1 picture thread.
In any event the G3 has a really good camera that I enjoy. YMMV.
I'm in the same boat. I'm choosing between the G3 and Z2, and camera is the most important thing for me since I take a lot of pics of my 3 kids, so particularly picture of moving object.
I did a lot of reading on G3 vs. Z2 and their camera. This one seems to have the most details:
http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/C...one-5s-LG-G2-Sony-Xperia-Z2-HTC-One-M8_id3728
In this review G3 did very well, best in 2 of the 3 main categories (detail and indoor), and best in 3 of the 4 minor categories (Panorama, HDR, and night). However it didn't talk much about picture of moving objects. I'd appreciate input on specifically this.

Any smartphone is going to struggle when taking shots of moving objects. That's simply due to the size of the sensor and how fast the lens operates.
A good test is to get someone to stand still in front of the lens and take a shot whilst they are waving back at you.
A decent digital camera with a good fast lens will keep both the person and their waving hand clear and sharp.
A blur free shot will require a fast shutter, something a smartphone struggles to achieve in anything other than bright and clear lighting.

No problem.
To part answer your request, the Sony Z2 has a slightly larger sensor at 1/2.3" over the LG G3 1/3".
So, based on sensor size alone the Z2 wins this.
However, sensor size alone won't guarantee a better shot and this is where LG needs to up its stakes.
Will it do it..... Well I currently have a Z2 which is miles better than the Z1 I previously had.
Unfortunately, even with it's larger sensor it fails to capture a steady and clear blur free shot. A moving hand is just a blur.
Sorry I do not have any shots at hand to show this. For shots of say my grandchildren running around as if they are all driving formula one cars I always go straight to one of my fast digital cameras. Not even a dedicated small compact digital camera will take a blur free shot.
I'll be getting a UK LG G3 in the next couple of weeks and it will be a great phone.
I'll use it for many tasks including photos but I won't expect it to capture any blur free shots.
But to sum up your question...... Of the two my money would go to the G3. It may not be able to achieve what you are asking but what with OIS hardware and that Laser focus they will help photos to be much clearer where lighting is not ideal.
for me, with moving objects most of the times i don't go the picture route. i go to camera, scroll down that button on upper right to switch to video mode.
The only phone that can take less blurry pics is m7 and m8, that was the point. Shutter speed is a bit higher. I have tried all the ones in my signature at the same target, my kids ☺

I'm sorry but the Xperia Z2 appears to be far superior to the G3 in everything but focus time or when the LED is used.
Since 4.4.2 and the latest camera app, the Sony is finally taking the photos it was always meant to. Even auto mode is now good, which is saying something.
But there's obviously more to the G3 than just the camera.
I have never used a z2 but z1 compact was absolutely awful. Even with the lack of mega pixels i am very impressed with the g3 camera i am going to do a lumia 1020 vs g3 thread tomorrow. I think you will be suprised how good the g3 camera is.

What do you guys think of the camera on the DT2? Low light? Video? Attached are some photos I took in low light with flash .. It seems to perform really good.

According to Dxomark it was rated as the third best camera. It got the same exact rating as the Nexus 6p.
http://www.dxomark.com/Mobiles/Moto...Motorola-Droid-Turbo-2-Ranking-Into-the-top-3
Only bested by the s6 and Z5.
This is seriously a killer phone when u put everything together....
I'm coming from the note 5 and the camera is just as good on the turbo 2. I took Halloween shots and they turned out great. Much improved from the original turbo.

Same here. Coming from a gs6 (same camera as note 5) and the results are negligible to my eyes.
I always wonder about reviewers noting this extreme differences between iPhones and Samsungs vs any other phone.
Camera is a DEFINITE improvement over the orignal Turbo. that my basis of comparison.
Crisper
MUCH FASTER
low light still not amazing, but its a phone camerea, cant expect DLSR performance.
Flash is maybe a bit worse, havent tested quite as much
havent done any video recording or used front camera yet.
I don't take that many pictures, but the camera is definitely better than the turbo 1 was.
I like the camera on my note 5 more, but this one seems fine too.

i think the reason for this is that the Moto cam has been so sub par for so long (saying this as a Moto user) that the quality camera had been really between Sammy and iPhone when it came to large consumer purchase models so its where comparisons would start
I think the camera is good. I just don't care for the software. I'm coming from a note 5 from T-Mobile. I don't like I just can't touch to focus then hit the camera button to take a shot. I always have to drag that yellow circle around to focus my shot. Seems annoying to me. Also I really miss the 1080p 60fps video from the note 5. That made all your videos buttery smooth.
Try camera zoom fx, a better Camera, or camera fv-5. I know they have touch to focus.

Is the camera this bad?

I've heard too many negative reviews about the camera and that it can be a deal breaker..so which camera is better iphone 6's camera or the axon 7's camera?
Bought the phone because previous one was stolen few days before I went traveling in China. Been more than happy with the pictures it takes. Panorama is cool too. It struggled with low light, but it improving noticably with every update.
Uploaded a few pics from a national park in China for you. You be the judge. All pics were made with auto mode.

I have to say though. The iPhone costs $300 more. If you care so much go for the Galaxy S7 for camera (and Android)
Actually not that bad
I remember hearing tons of negative reviews on the camera and being worried that it wasn't going to be that good but after using the phone for about a week I can honestly say the camera is pretty good. It does struggle a bit in low light, though but that's simply because of the amount of megapixels. In my opinion, some reviewers are just a bit picky

I'm coming from a Nexus 6P and the Axon 7 camera just doesn't compare, especially in low light. The 6P had a great camera. That being said, since B27 came out things have improved noticeably and while the camera still isn't ad good as the 6P, it's more usable now and does produce decent enough shots in low and pretty good ones in good light.
Sent from my ZTE A2017U using Tapatalk
Low light scenes are very challenging for the camera. ZTE really need to improve the HDR processing, where it can't touch 2015's Nexus phones and where it trails the much cheaper Honor 7.
There's not much sun where I am and I'm really noticing the difference.
You can certainly get better-looking results by playing with white balance in manual mode but that won't help you if you want to snap a darker foreground without blowing out all the background detail - a trick the Nexus phones' HDR+ excels at. I know they are deadly slow but I'd be happy to put up with much longer exposure times if it meant better pictures.
Could you please provide some selfie snaps as I'm kindda of a selfie guy?
Also I currently have the iPhone 5 so if the axon's camera is worse than the iphone 5 I might go with the oneplus 3 even though I hate its 1080p screen

Camera in low light sucks

This camera is just so bad in low light. Any fixes? I upgraded from a M8 but damn the camera is so far behind.
Bad how? I think it's good, if you hold it steady. It doesn't have OIS which is a shame, but the sensor seems particularly good and it has a wide aperture lens.

Every review mentioned low light performance as one of the only 'Cons.'

Yes, there is a fix.
Turn lights on, or pick a well lit scenario.
Jokes aside, it's just how this camera is. The sensor is bad in low light situations, as I guess it enjoys turning the ISO way high, and while a lower ISO would probably give you better pics, it would turn out blurred because the sensor is not mechanically stabilized.
It's not too bad, but shooting in auto mode tends to bump up the iso, which results in a noisy photo. I usually switch to manual mode, keep the iso around 400 and adjust shutter time according to the situation. It's maximum 1/3 of a second, so you shouldn't have too much trouble holding it still for that long.
Photos come out more detailed and sharper that way. Much better than in auto mode.
Also coming from the m8.. camera quality and detail really suck in comparison. Especially detail.
Considering this is the same camera as the Galaxy s7... Motorola could have done a lot more with the firmware.

Ok, now I agree...
I'm actually very upset at how bad the camera sucks, it's quite upsetting. After reading about what sensor it has, it's actually quite shocking how really bad this phone's camera is.
I was getting better pictures on my Oneplus One that was over three years old when the Moto G5 Plus came out, there simply is no reasonable excuse for performance this poor.
I think I'll want to never buy another Moto/Lenovo product again, unless they do something to remedy this situation.

If you root your phone and enable camera 2 api you will see drastic improvement.. But currently if you root you will loose access of Stock OTA..

They wont, you have a mid range phone that is only going to get one major update, lets be honest if you wanted better you should have bought another flagship.

The M8 had a sensor with large pixels and a low pixel count specifically to perform better in low light.
It's a shame that no one buys products and reviews them for the community, so they can make an informed decision on the pros and cons of a particular product before spending a bunch of money on them...
Well, my experience has been totally opposite, this thing has probably the best low light camera along with top dogs like s7/8 u11, pixel.
although it requires moded libs for it.
My experience is that the low light on mine is comparable to my m8 the color is poor but after color correction they come out decent.

You're joking, right? Swapping in hacked libs that make your phone take crappy 2MP photos in exchange for "software enhanced" photos is not putting it on par with the S6/7 lol

No i'm not talking about 2mp photos but full 12mp.
Ofc it's not going to give you 100% same results cuz there are still some hardware is lacking like OIS. but you haven't paid 100% same price either.
so you gotta consider that too .
I think it's something to do with the image processing. The Snapdragon 625 has pretty decent low light image processing but I don't think it's as good compared to something like the sd 820, 821 or even 835.
