I have only had the phone a few days and having installed about 10apps the performance of the phone has slowed a lot.i have task killer installed and making sure I'm shutting down most apps when not in use, But everything has slowed since I installed the last fm app
Is there a directory where temp files are stored?
Any help would be great!
Chances are pretty high that you have the same problem as I did, that one of the apps are slowing it down in some manner. You could also replace the TwLauncher (Samsungs ****ty home app) with something like Launcher Pro, which is my recommendation. Just doing that will garner you some performance help.
I already useG launcher pro, but I just restarted my phne and its sped up again.and my ram has increased also.I'm confused
Flash your phone with the modaco Rom and run the lag fix script. This is a temporary problem and a temporary fix. Samsung will fix it soon. They know about it but the phone was rushed out. Needs upgrading that's all. Mine runs very smoothly.

Doesn't look like an Android problem, but a phone specific so you need to rely on a fix from Samsung.
As mentioned above, nothing to do with Android ~ just bad coding on the part of software Apps installed.
What I have done and recommended to many is to get hold of the App 'SystemPanel'.
There are two versions available on The Market ~ SystemPanel Lite (Free) & SystemPanel App (Paid).
Try the Lite version first. It will firstly allow you to see exactly which application is hogging your system/taking memory/using battery performance/etc./etc.
It has detailed graphs/plots and about everything but the kitchen sink added to aid you in finding what is going on.
On top of that it also has the most detailed selection process of closing down Apps.
I purchased it almost immediately and know many others who have followed suit.
I don't get any further performance issues ~ period.
I have 150 apps, and yes there is slowness, i am also using minfreemanager on aggressive setting and this makes a HUGE difference.
Not sure what google can do about bad coding, is there a way to figure out which apps can cause slowness?

I read somewhere that the lag fix will recreate the problem of Android, which is low space to install apps!!
Is that right?

If you really want to find out what is slowing down your system then yes, use SystemPanel.
I can't remember what the difference is between the Lite & Full version.
All I know is I found it looked that good I get the Full version and have not looked back since.
The Lite version will give you some indication what the program does but please check what you get extra in the Full version.

Hi folks,
I'm a developer at Facebook on the Android team. First off, thanks for bringing this to our attention. We have identified the bug that is causing this battery drain and are working on a fix now. As soon as the patch is ready, we'll push out an update. Thanks for the quick feedback and for your patience as we get this fixed!
Thanks,

Ahh, good to know that official..
Good news. Looks like the fix is out version 1.3.1
I just downloaded it. Hopefully I'll have better battery life tomorrow.
Holy crap. Is that what is happening to my battery the last few days. ..
My battery had been exceptionally terrible the last 2 days as well
Noticed version 1.3.1 is out now
Update and save those batteries
I had backed up my last copy of FB. Now that the developers noticed the issue and released and update, so will I. Coo'
This may be an obvious answer, but how do we update the facebook app that's installed with the os?

New update is still sucking my battery. Anyone got a link to the old version?
Edit: nevermind, you can just uninstall the updates by doing it in the market.
I wonder why some people have this problem and others don't. My friends sees the problem on his Incredible, but I don't see any drain on my N1.

Do you have the widget on the home screen? Otherwise check about phone, battery info, what's been using the battery and if android os is real high, then Facebook is probably preventing the phone from sleeping.

I havent had any problems with the new update, but then again, my facebook 'sync' options have never been enabled. I think today facebook updated itself again
I don't do anything with Facebook, but I do have the updated app installed and logged in. About 30 friends, sync with contacts, and no battery drain at all. System panel shows only 5 seconds of CPU time used over the last 8 hours.
Well I skipped Facebook 1.3.0 and 1.3.1 because of the battery drain. Today installed 1.3.2 and in 53 minutes the Facebook app was good for 50 minutes of partial wake time.
(and this is with update notifications set to never, etc.)
Uninstalled....reverted back to 1.2 and now no more partial wake usage from the app!
Having installed 1.3.2 my partial wake time is only 14s since unplugged for Facebook. I've got it set to notify me for messages and friend requests, plus it syncs contacts already in the phone. That said never had issues on 1.3.1.
Does anyone has the version 1.2 apk saved somewhere ? I'm looking for it and I can't desinstall the updates unfortunately.
Thank you in advance!
Any hosting service would do the trick
I haven't had a single problem in a week out of Facebook, in fact only the first day of using 1.3.1.
I've recently bought an international galaxy note and I love it so far, except for the fact of the high ram usage. This was not a problem on my previous Samsung device, the Galaxy S2. Typically after pressing the "Clear Memory" key I get around 360 MB/800MB of RAM being used. However, as I open a few APPS, such as Facebook, double twist and internet browser it spikes up to around ~ 760 MB and my device gets EXTREMELY laggy. 3 open APPS shouldn't be a problem right? Even after I press the back button (not home) the device is still lagging. Is there a reason for this?
I am currently on:
Android 2.3.6
Baseband N7000XXLA4
Kernel version 2.6.35.7-N7000XXLA6-CL907341 [email protected]#2
Build number GINGERBREAD.XXLA6
***My device has the latest update and is not rooted.***
Thanks!
Suspending an app in RAM does not cause the device to lag. What causes ANY device to lag is when the app is running FULL throttle in the background.
Check to see which app is still running constantly in the background that's using most of the CPU power.

Setting > Running Applications. I have a lot of my recently opened apps "cached background process"
I let the OS handle to open apps, since if you close them, they open again if needed by the system. However, apps such as games I ensure I quit when I'm done.
Sometimes when the lag is excessive, I need to do a reboot and then the SGN works speedily again. I found after uninstalling an app called Swift Keyboard, the lag minimized. Shame, as it's a super keyboard replacement.

really now? I have swift key installed as well. I'll uninstall it and see if it helps, though it seems strange that would induce lag.

have you installed any other launchers. there is one called go launcher. this has got the running applications easily accessible. from here you can control the apps.

Well Swiftkey X is "unoptimized for tablets" so I downloaded the free tablet version and there was some minor improvements I think? But it might more of a placebo effect.

I would try the tw launcher. It made a fairly noticeable difference as far as lag goes.
I got tired of all this, I eventually decided to root and now I'm rocking a ics build rom.

Lag problem in system application
Hi, I am enjoying my Galaxy Note but I am facing lagging/jerking scrolling problem in Message, Contact and other system application but no problem with Internet or any third party application.
My Kernel is : 2.6.35.7 - N7000DDLB2.....after update (dont know what was original)
please suggest how to solve it.
There are lots of posts relating to laggy Notes.
Short of rooting the device, there is no solution other than to carefully check what you've installed on the phone, when you've exhausted that avenue then all you can do is to sit back, join the queue and wait for the ICS update...

It even had lag at the store : (
Hey y'all!
I just recently returned a HTC One X cuz i wasn't feelin' the ICS vibe, i NEED a Menu Button and thats THAT!
So here i'm thinking 'bout gettin' the GNote, cuz its STILL on Gbread (my fav Android Op System out of all of 'em to date) but then all i read is how bad the lag is (which as mentioned in title was evident even at the store) but can be fixed by rooting & flashing ICS ROM.
Soooooooo, IF i root (omg i hope its a lot easier than it used to be no tar, pit, odin files... is it? wait, don't tell me! i don't wanna know, YET...lol) will my GNote Menu Button still bring up a Menu or does it become useless in an ICS ROM?
Also, if i don't root and wait for Official ICS update, will Menu Button still be functional? I thought i read on 4 button phones u still can use the M Button, but now i can't find the article...
thanx y'all!!!
Ms D
Still [email protected] 5.0, hope camera and battery improves
Regarding the battery, there is something going on with kernel wakelock. It was held awake for 3.5 hours and lost 25% overnight. Could just be initial maintenance type OS stuff. Will check further if this issue continues. Battery life during actual use of the phone seems okay. Also, there may be an issue with calibration of % to actual life left. Will run it down all the way to see how it lasts on 1%.
The camera will be very difficult to improve. The lens is the lens and the sensor is the sensor. Software trickery can help with some things, but unlikely to improve much. That being said, the camera seems okay to me. Not the best I've seen, but have seen far worse. I'll have some comparisons up within the next few days.,

Yes, if you looked at the screenshot, the latest update makes the kernel April 25, 2015, but sadly its still 3.10.20 (which is probably the part you care about and not the date.)

I see the ROM date, not the kernel date in the screen shot. I'm looking for the kernel date specifically (need kernel newer than 16-APR) Though if 3.10.20, it's unlikely to have changed. Thanks.

Sad to hear that they're improving the main weakness of the phone? Or are you referring to the fact they might further mess up the quality with 'optimisations'?

Hi all!
I am a Samsung user genuinely. But since my last phone broke down, it broke my budget too.
Got Nova and here are some bugs.
1) Bluetooth speaker issue. the sound is way late than the video. (Edit: Fixed by going in developer options and changing "Bluetooth audio codec")
2) Camera is not having any kind of stabilization.
3) It hangs like hell and u r not left with any option. Not even restart.
4) Not the fastest 4gb ram phone.
5) The interface of the phone is laggy af ( can be fixed by installing 3rd party launchers).
6) Processor temps are never lower than 60 degree C. Idk if its fine or not but antutu temp sensor always shows it in red text.
These are the ones I could find... tell if u have any.. or at least have found fix for any of them.
BTW...
Today got an update of 288MB which is currently downloading. Hope it fixes some bugs.

Lol I kinda like mine, except for a few things I guess but I got it for a good deal, well I reckon anyway - $380 NZD.
What did you replace it with?
Hello! These issues, especially the Camera app being buggy, are common.
The performance issue, please go to settings > Battery > Battery Usage and see which apps are using a lot of background usage, then click on the app and there's written 'App Launch', click on that and toggle off the 'Manage Automatically' and also toggle off all of the toggled on things to prevent the app from consuming background usage.
On this device you can also disable/uninstall many apps that if u dont need, please do so, here are some list of apps you can disable which would improve performance:
1. Gmail (replace with another mail client like FairEmail)
2. Youtube (replace with another application like NewPipe)
3. You can also disable playstore and the main Google app.
4. You can also disable Google Play Services, this consumes a lot of background usage, more than HMS! You can replace playstore with F-Droid and you can get FOSS apps.
5. Replace Facebook with Frost for Facebook, or disable background access to it from the previous performance issue guide.
I am not getting performance issue on mine, so make sure u check which apps are using background/battery usage a lot so you'd find out.
