Good morning, I am having issues installing the new OTA update for Oxygen OS. I have tried re-flashing the full 2.0.2 zip to get rid of root and then flashing the OTA but I get an error about unexpected contents (see attached screenshot). Any ideas please?

Not sure. I know I had to fully recover with the ROM from this thread. I flashed it in TWRP.
After flashing, I allowed the device to reboot, did minimal setup, and connect to WiFi. Immediately, I got an update to 2.0.2. After update finished, I put the 2.1 OTA zip on my internal storage, rebooted in NOW STOCK recovery, and attempted to install the 2.1 OTA. It said "failed," but when I rebooted it automatically seemed to apply the update and I booted up into 2.1. I don't know if that is helpful, but it's what worked for me. BE AWARE: After doing all this, my bootloader became locked again. I had to boot into system, enable unlock, and re-fastboot oem unlock.
EDIT: for awareness

Thanks very much for your reply - I will give this a go tonight when I finish work. Is there a specific ROM you flashed out of the two in the above links? :good:
Best do the newest, but the full 2.1.0 ROM has already been posted here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62942838&postcount=68
Just tried the above method but unfortunately it failed for me, couldn't get passed 2.0.2 - downloading full zip now.
I have 2.0.1, do i have to update to 2.0.2 first and then to 2.1?
Has anyone had some success?
You can try the above method but it did not work for me, just dirty flash the full 2.1 zip that is now available.

No it is an issue with the current official version of TWRP. The device name was set to oneplus 2 instead of OnePlus 2. When installing the ota it is case sensitive. A new version is currently being worked on 2.8.7.1 which should resolve the issue.
For now it is best to just flash the full rom, It will install.
Thanks
Tried to download a full rom 2.1 and install via TWRP, but get the same message. Any tips where to download a full rom whos working, thanks.
Beta of TWRP 2.8.1 anywhere?

I used Google's batch file on windows to flash the stock 5.0, having unlocked the bootloader and also installed the chainfire root. Just wondering whether I'll get any fixes, or whether i'll have to always repeat this process, wiping out everything on the device in the process.
You may get prompted to download and install new updates when they arrive, but they will fail upon installation unless you're 100% stock.
there will be an OTA update notification if you have stock rom wether you have a sotck or a custom recovery. But if you download and install the OTA update having a custom recovery, the installation will fail and will show an installation or update error. You will be stucked in "no command" image. so better restore your stock recovery as well before downloading any OTA updates..

Does the Google image download page (https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images) get updated as Lollipop gets updated? Or am I going to have to do OTA updates?
hmm.. im not sure which comes first.. but, if you want to get OTA, you'll have to wait for your device to get its turn for the notification to appear. The effect will still be the same though if you flash that google image to your device.. And flashing that device, will save you time from waiting for your OTA to appear on your device.
Cheers! :good:

Well, I'm a bit confused. I'm on stock, but i need root, so i installed cfar, which I think included super su. when a new version of super su came out (i was alerted via google play), i needed to install the twrp recovery (which I didn't have installed at that point) to update it. So I guess I'm not stock any more, even though I've not actually put a non-stock image on. So even if the OTA update message popped up, I doubt it's safe to install it that way, even if it let me. I'm just not sure whether I need to a factory reset/wipe etc before updating, or if I can do a dirty update (the OTA is effectively a dirty update, isn't it?). And, like i said, i'm not sure whether that page gets updated with new images, or whether you're supposed to just put the initial one down and then do OTA updates (and only then root, change the recovery etc).
You have a stock rom but with a CUSTOM recovery. Yes, ota will prompt you to update, but DON'T. You should convert to stock recovery first. Because if you do, the update will push through, but once it asks you to boot to make the update in effect, you will have a NO COMMAND error - bootloop, and only fastboot and recovery (sort of dysfunctional). Just like most of the people here, including me. So make backup of your files first before doing the update. Cheers :good:

Hi, what i did was flashing the official factory image from google via fastboot/bootloader... Make a nandroid backup first though.. Because you'll need to clean flash (system partition/cache and data) to avoid future problems.
please educate me
A few weeks ago I rooted my N4 with CFAR (& of course had to wipe out everything). My understanding was that now that my bootloader is unlocked, I can sideload new images, thus sparing me a rewipe -- & in my ignorance, was anticipating that ChainFire would make 5.0.1 images in due course.
So, If I want to root subsequent 5.x.x releases, how would this work in real life??
Can i just restore stock recovery and then install the 5.0.1 ota update without losing everything?
Just got a notification for OTA to 5.0.1. Anyone know if this will break root? And if it will install with CWM custom recovery?

Android Central has the log change. It's bug fixes really.
Also, in this thread a user states that apparently only with the full 5.0.1 can you install it with CWM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/shi...p-nvidia-shield-tablet-ota-android-5-t2982677
You will lose root and CWM after the reboot but those took about 3 minutes to get back .. easy peasy. I'm now at 5.0.1 on my shield with root and CWM.
Cheers.
Hello aegern,
deletes the full update all the data? can you give me the recovery and root attach files?

So here's what I did:
Download the full OTA then reboot to CWM (assuming your rooted + recovery) and unmount system partition ( I believe all others were unmounted) and then delete system, data, cache partitions respectively. Then flash the OTA zip followed by latest supersu.
Just tested this method and I have a rooted 5.01 32GB LTE US model working flawlessly. Even managed to take out the top spot in Hwbot Prime for the Shield (woops to newb for links I see lol)

So, did it work for you? I've tried the file in both this link and the official update and get the same thing with both. I'm still on KK and I can't install either the 5.0 or the 5.01 updates. I get the same "this is an ardbeg" error with any update I try to flash, and I'm flashing the full files, not the incremental updates. In fact, I have two tablets (both lte) and I updated the first one to 5.0 a week ago, no problem, but the new one I just bought, I can't even though I'm using the same files (cwm and update). I'm stumped.
Bah. nm. I went back and reinstalled the recovery from here again, http://forum.xda-developers.com/shi.../recovery-cwm-recovery-nvidia-shield-t2848064. Flashed 5.01 just fine. Not sure where I got the other recovery.

Hi dgjenkins, sorry answer so late. So, answering you first, not, it did not work for me. I actually did give up, the bad was that I tried so many ways to do it that I freezed the tablet and did not start again. Well, looking out there, I found this amazing video who saved my tablet of bust it again the wall and start from the original firmware.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsMo1tPlIFU
I did intal the Minimal ADB and Fastboot
Copy the image files in to the Minimal ADB and Fasboot directory c:\Programs Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot
Ope Minimal ADB and Fastboot
-Type: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
-Type: fastboot flash boot boot.img
-Type: fastboot flash system system.img
-Type: fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
-Type: fastboot flash staging blob
-Type: fastboot flash dtb tegra124-tn8-p1761-1270-a04-e-battery.dtb
And done . I can now install the updates from the stock firmware. Maybe I will root it again once a stable way to root the shield tablet appear out there. :cyclops:
Happy Holidays and Thanks for the interest! :good:
Nvidia updates definitely trump Android ones. These days, Google is in the habit of pretending that a nexus 5 camera bug is worthy of a new Android version (that was KitKat) or that an update is a great place to break functionality (App Ops, also with KitKat). Anything that's not a minor version with updates you know you want... Avoid on a non Nexus unless you have a great reason for it.
Manufacturers besides Google, see, they do this thing I like to call quality control. They generally release an OS that is ready for the hardware and software*. Crazy, right?
* unless that hardware is, say, the pen

I'm failing now? I went from ZAD v.3 back to stock B29 (I have an unlocked bootloader). I do have the MiFavor recovery (not TWRP)
I got the notification there was an upgrade, it took 6 hours to download... but the update "failed". I tried applying the update via SD card, but I get about 32% in and says "Update failed"......It also lists "Status 8" and "system partition has unexpected contents".
Sounds like y'all are having a hell of a time between the slow OTA speeds and then getting it to actually flash.
So I think I'll hold off for now. Hopefully we can get some TWRP-flashable zips soon enough... I think DrakenFX is already busy with all that
You guys are making this way too complicated.
The full B29 firmware will flash just fine with twrp.
Only OTA *updates* require the stock recovery. The difference is the update patches existing files while the full firmware contains full partition images.
Be aware if you download the full b29 firmware from zte, it will also replace your recovery and bootloader. You won't be able to flash recovery from the bootloader/fastboot screen then. Also, it wipes all your data.
DrakenFX put out a modified version of the full firmware file which doesn't modify the bootloader. I believe it also leaves the recovery intact.
After flashing official A2017U B29 firmware from ZTE the signal network service is lost. I ignore this and continue to upgrade to Nougat successfully and I get lost signal. I notice that Dual Sim Setting is working. Does official firmware overwrite original chinese baseband/bootstack? Can someone please upload chinese baseband/bootstack A2017 please?

No more complicated than it's turned out to be....
I followed DrakenFX's guide to B29 stock... The Nougat OTA downloaded, in 6 hours, but failed. So, I tried the SD card method, and it also failed at 32%.
Not sure what else I can do? Just wait for DrakenFX to make ZAD v.4 is my plan for now since I already wasted about 11 hours trying to upgrade today, and another 3 restoring back 6.0.1 and all my apps.

No problem upgrading using the OTA on an sdcard here. Flashed the draken stock_system zip, then fastboot flashed the B29 stock recovery. Reboot to recovery (which is now stock) and update from sd card. If you've messed with other partitions, you may need to flash more B29 .img's.

When you install twrp, forget about updates. You need to flash full stock image using miflash application on Windows. I had the same problem, flashed stock images using miflash and update worked! I did not even lose my phone data.
Edit: Just boot into twrp to flash magisk. Don't flash twrp or system update will fill after downloading.
I was in the same situation (even if i've never flashed twrp).
Solved by flashing 17.10.30 Rom (after that I got the update)

If you have done multiple tweaks, I suppose that those were done to system directly. In such case you'll need to flash system partition as well. Both are included in full ROM, just extract them from archive http://en.miui.com/download-333.html.

From what I know, in order to get the ota your bootloader needs to be the stock one, but I could not find it outside of full kdz packages.
I have not rooted yet waiting for this specific update (given the security fixes).
I would suggest you to backup all of your apps and settings with an app like Titanium Backup, flash stock, install the ota, reinstall TWRP, root and magisk and then restore apps and settings from the backup

The way I had to update was to flash 21a and then take OTA's up to 21d because when I flashed 21c back to stock using TWRP and tried to update it gave me an error and then rebooted and said I can't update because I had rooted the device.

Here's the baseband version with RS98821c: MPSS.TH.2.0.c1.4-00047-M8996FAAAANAZM-1.88674.1.101802.1
The numbers are slightly different at the end compared to RS98821d , but I'm not sure what if anything might have changed.
maybe, for getting OTA should we just get unroot? How to do it properly?
If recovery is not the stock one, it will not be possible to install the OTA.
Alternatively you might need to wait for someone to make a flashable zip you could flash with TWRP, but given the fact development on this phone is not too active you might need to wait for a while before is available

I was also planning on flashing the complete 21c zip so that I could take the 21d OTA. Glad to know that might not work.
Anyone know if it would be possible to install just the stock 21c recovery image? It's my understanding that having a custom recovery installed is what makes the OTA installation fail. If TWRP is what's getting in the way of installing the OTA, wouldn't replacing TWRP with stock recovery solve the problem without touching the system? If anyone who knows more about this stuff than me could chime in, I'd appreciate it.

First I flashed the magisk uninstaller and rebooted back to recovery. Then I flashed the 21c COMPLETE ZIP and didn't flash magisk so it would replace TWRP with the stock recovery on reboot. Then I rebooted and when I tried to update it went to the stock and threw up an error then rebooted. Upon reboot it displayed a message saying that I couldn't update because my device had been rooted. So I rebooted back in to bootloader and flashed TWRP again. Then I flashed 21a COMPLETE ZIP and no magisk so that the stock recovery would replace TWRP. I rebooted and went through setup and took OTA updates until I was on 21d. Then rebooted back into bootloader and flashed TWRP. Then rooted and we've through setup. I tried every other way but this was the only way that worked for me. I hope it helps!
should be an easier way. Did u see some changes to the radio?
Some of you may remember that last year I had the misfortune of installing the Brightpoint ROM on my Unlocked G5, which completely messed the phone up by not allowing it to connect to AT&T's LTE. It was a process to re-flash the older ROMs/Bootloader and then rebuild it to a stable 21c. I had used it for a while like that, and the only problem I had was that when ending a voice call (HSPA) it would take a while to change back to LTE.
I ended up going with the S8 over the summer (Samsung discount + Note 2 trade in) which got it for $18/month. I've been using it ever since and the LTE to HSPA Voice to LTE change-off on the S8 is done within a second, unlike the G5.
My mom had been using an unlocked Samsung S5 for almost a year now, and it's constantly dropping calls, and this past week it froze on her and required a battery pull, so was thinking of having her try out my (unused) G5 to see if she liked it more. When I turned the G5 on today, I updated all the apps, and then installed the 21d OTA update. The hand-off from voice to LTE still is not as fast as my S8, but seems to be improved from the 21c firmware.
ROM Posted
Just to let you all know, I have posted the latest 21d stock ROM in my thread here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/development/stock-21c-roms-flashable-zips-imgs-t3679907
Hi. After 21d received my phone starts to rebbot when I try to play music on phone. No matter if this is stock player or google music. After self reboot music plays normally but if I click pause and wait until first stand by mode, the problem returns. Want to ask you guys to check if you have the same problem or I should download full version of 21d and check if the problem still exists. Thanks.
