Audio *glitch* when rotating phone? - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had a few people, in another thread, ask me if I had this "glitch"; where when you rotate the phone (the screen rotates) while listening to music or watching a video, it drops out for just a fraction of a second. Mine does do this.
I use PowerAmp as my main music player and Shuttle for my 2nd and they both do it. Youtube and FB video's also do this, and probably more that I haven't tried.
I'm not too worried about it, since I figure it will be fixed in a future update or in a custom ROM... Plus, I don't usually rotate my phone while listening to music. It's either beside me in my car, on my desk or in my pocket.
Anyone else experiencing this?

Which way are you rotating? Vertical, counterclockwise turn. Mine fine. Vertical, clockwise turn, I get a blip. Landscape to portrait, same thing. This is an intended behavior according to Matt in the Moto forums.
Moto X Pure Edition (Verizon)

Landscape to portrait, or vice-versa

This isn't a moto x problem. Its a lollipop issue. Had it one my one plus one and still have it on my nexus 6.

Isn't this due to the Stereo swapping sides? I have a windows tablet with stereo speakers that does this, though it is very quick and painless

Guess I was spoiled by my last 3 HTC devices (M7, M8 and M9) that never did this, no matter how much you twisted and turned them. The last two, M8 and M9 were running Lollipop too.

That's because of HTC sense. The issue is noticed when running near stock or stock android.

The M8 was running very close to stock GPe, Skydragon's GPe ROM, but probably still had some HTC magic, or drivers, in there somewhere.

You got it. Let me be a little more clear lol. It would be noticed on phones like nexus devices, one plus one (running oxygen), and moto devices. At least I'm speaking from my experiences with those devices and lollipop. This isn't just a moto pure issue I can guarantee that.

What if the HTC devices don't rotate the stereo sounds? Like...upper speaker is always Left/Right, and vise-versa.

My M7 never made sounds and it certainly did not swap channels. Through Sense, GPe, and now CyanogenMod. It has never swapped channels. The top has always been the left and bottom has been the right. I just tested it with a clip on youtube.
Unless something is wrong with my phone? Although there is a audio dropout happening, I appreciate the phone realizing the audio and video will not match unless it swaps the channels. Rather have the slight channel drop then no swap, though a nice subtle faded swap would be nice.

I think i'd probably swap my Nexus One for one of THESE!
P
I might want to, but probably only for the Sense UI. Which is going to end up in a firmware. Which then I will revert back to the stock or a CM...
Damn buying a product and then literally a day later (for me) a more interesting version coming out...
Beautiful Phone! But what is the difference other than the optical stick and Sense to slow it down?
Eh, I don't see anything special.
Sense UI - Personally, I'm not a fan. All Sense UI means is having to wait MUCH longer for Android updates; MONTHS longer such as past phones have had to wait. If you want Sense, someone will copy it to the N1 within a few days anyway. Why is Sense UI stock a plus? More like a downside really.
N1 looks better than the Desire imo. N1 has style. Desire is a rectangular brick.
No DivX/Xvid support? Bleh. That was also something I was hoping would happen (so that we could get it hacked onto the N1 .
The only positive I see is the hard buttons, since soft buttons on the N1 are kind of wonky. The optical trackpad is also > trackball, but then you miss out on the glowing notifications (which will eventually be hacked to be all sorts of awesome). 64 MB more ram is nice too.
Not impressed.
hmmm didn't know it had more RAM (576MB)
Hope the FM radio code can be run on the N1
Pretty phones as usual! Can't wait for the HTC Sense UI to be ripped!
The Bravo also has HD video recording.
Anyone know if this is a hardware or software feature of the Bravo?
Could this be ported to the Nexus also?

yes i am looking forward to the FM radio being ported over to N1..
I really hope that it is possible!
Why would they ugly up the bottom and combine two butons on one side but not the other side? There's no symmatry, also, jay leno called he wants his chin back.
I would like to know about the hd video recording too
Cyanogen said he was salivating over this one compared to the N1; I asked him why on Twitter, no response. It's the same phone, except it has Sense and a new button. What's the big deal?

There was a response. Two of them actually:
http://twitter.com/cyanogen/status/9145769367
@Tampsh capacitive buttons and sdcard slot being blocked by the battery.

I like the capacity buttons actually, plus I prefer the stock android to the sense interface.
I don't think the HTC Bravo/Desire has the noise cancellation feature.
Correct, the Desire doesn't have the noise cancellation, Sense UI also means months between updates when the Nexus will get theres first since it's Google's phone. Also that horrible chin is back, even though the touch buttons are weird on the Nexus One you get used to them and prefer them more then the hardware. Also the Sense UI slows down your phone and the HD playback is the software not hardware so Nexus will also get that. Trackball color notfication > optical ball.
And most importantly..THE NEXUS ONE IS GOOGLE'S PHONE, not some random phone by HTC which won't be as popular as the Nexus or be supported as long as the Nexus.

Incorrect.
A) Google is not marketing / advertising the Nexus One... AT ALL, because they're afraid to step on manufacturer's toes. So the Nexus One will never ever reach popularity.
B) The Desire will be released in Europe AND Asia, which has a hell of a lot more potential customers than the US.
I wish A) wasn't true, but oh well. Sadly, the Nexus One will stay a "sleeper" hit and never much more than that.
Not quite sure what is so appealing about that. It looks damn hideous to me.
Alright.. my two cents...
1) it'd be great if the momory card was hot-swappable, but it's not. The nexi boots so quick though it honestly doesn't matter to me. Besides its harder for someone to take if you were ever in that situation where your phone was at risk (i.e. a bar or party or something)
2) the capacitive buttons give the nexus one a futuristic look. The hardware buttons make the phone look already less attractive. The capacitive buttons on the nexi are a little sketch at times, but seriously you have to be picky or something to not like them. Find the sweet spots of the buttons (up a little) and you're a happy camper.
3) noise cancellation is amazing on the nexus. I get compliments on how crystal clear my voice is all the time.
4) its butt fuggin ugly.
5) Sense UI sucks. I had it on my HTC Magic and all it did was bloat it up and slow it down.
And come on...the name is lame too! Nothing beats Nexus One. How fugging bad ass does that sound seriously. And we get Google AND HTC support, and its just amazing...
NEXUS ONE FTW!!!!

Thinking of moving to a RAZR M from a Droid X. Help?

So, I have a Droid X that is now about 2 years old. I run a custom ROM on it (Vortex) with the extended battery. I rarely hit under 60% each day because i don't really use my phone all that much unless I am out of town. I use a car dock with the DX so being charged on trips is also not a huge deal (and I use it as my GPS).
I guess my question is this: is the RAZR M a good follow up to a DX? I likely won't update again for 2 years, so this is always a huge decision for me. I see that they are both 4.3in screens, but that the M is actually a bit smaller, which I welcome. I find my DX to be the upper limit of size for me, so the HD/MAXX HD are out.
Anyways, any advice is welcome. Anyone else move from a DX to a Razr M?

Well, I only really ran customs on my Droid X because it ran terribly on the stock rom. The Razr M does not seem to have that issue. Though I am concerned about background hiss in headphones that I am reading about.

I went from a galaxy S 3 to the M and I'm completely happy. Ya there's a million roms for the sgs 3 but you can only run one at a time (think I flashed most of the at one time or another). I'm running bhm (or whatever the initials are) rom and it's awesome, I also loaded the modified framework to hide just the navi bar so my phone is completely gesture based with gmd its cool as hell. I have a few pairs of high end iems at home I'll plug them in and listen for any hiss when I get off work. I think some people flashed beats audio and are having mixed success with it accepting the change. But for the people its worked for I think it solved their hiss issue.

Interesting, I don't now which Klipsch set you use, but I have heard someone mention that brand in their complain about background hiss.
So you don't get any at all in quiet parts of songs? Do you mind me asking when you got your phone? I honestly don't plan on using this phone for music a lot (use an iPod Touch + FiiO amp for that), but I will for podcasts very often, and they have a lot of silence between speakers.
Thanks.

I had the DX, it was a good phone but I wasn't happy with it after the update. I then bought the RAZR Maxx, a very good phone. Now I have the M which I've had since launch day and its probably the best phone I've owned. I like the size, its built very well, sounds clear and loud, the battery lasts me all day with about 90 minutes of talk time but I had to stop Latitude reporting my location as that killed battery life. The screen size is a bit deceiving as the soft buttons take up a portion of the screen so it's more like the 4" screen of the D3 rather than the 4.3" screen of the DX, you'll notice the difference.
Overall, I like the size of the phone more than the full size RAZRs. Negatives, there are complaints that it isn't as good in getting and holding a signal as the RAZR or RAZR HD phones. I don't monitor the signal strength but I do notice my phone tends to be on 3G more than I remember it on my other phones. I've also seen a few complaints about static or poor sound quality from the headphone jack; I don't have this problem.
I don't play games or watch movies on my phone. These are the last phones that Motorola developed without Google and we're expecting to see some new phones soon. There's a trade show coming up at the end of February so you may want to wait and see what's going to be available soon.

Can i ask you one thing: do you lose anything by disabling latitude aside from check-ins and the like? Does it limit Google Now in any way?
Thanks
You will notice a large decline in camera performance. I'm using my dad's old DX as an extra video baby monitor and I've been messing around with the camera and it's hard to believe how much better the pictures turn out compared to the M. Other than the camera the M is the best phone I've had compared to the Tbolt, Spectrum, Rezound, Bionic, and Nexus.

Anyway, thanks all, thread complete
It seems to be a mixed bag. I can't get the thing to focus worth a crap even if I use the touch to focus. Macro pictures seem to be non-existent also. I love the physical shutter button on the DX. Oh well, always have my wife's bionic to take quality pictures... Not! lol

Gotta say I'm loving this phone..more than my old s4 and HTC one!!

I am a very picky phone owner, let me just say that right away. I always have a different phone cause I need to have the latest and greatest. After having the moto x I truly feel as if this is the best overall phone out right now for me.
The s4 was just too damn big and I felt like I always need to use both hands to do anything. Sure the camera was nice but it my daily use its not as big a difference as people make it out too be. Battery was OK, but my x is way better!!
The htc one def has the nicest screen out. But unless your staring at both of these phones side by side the difference is negligible. The camera on the one was absolutely horrible no matter what the conditions! Blurry and over processed colors. Battery life was good but again the x is way better.
I think that overall for what I use the phone for, the x is gonna be with me for a while. I love the size!!! Feel perfect, a good size screen and yet I don't need two hands to always use it. The active notifications are awesome!! Screen is good for me, I'm not one to purposely stare at the screen to try and see if I can see pixels etc. Battery life is awesome, I'm easily getting 4+ hours of screen on time. The camera is not nearly as bad as most reviews report, in my findings. Yes the s4 is better but the moto x holds its own!
I'd like more dev support cause I'm a crackflasher. I'm sure it will come. But if it doesn't happen I'm OK with it because the phone is pretty much the way I'd want a ROM to be anyways.
^^^^ i agree
^^^^^^ I agree x2
As someone who was a hardcore flashaholic this is the first phone I've had that I don't feel the need to immediately load a new ROM onto.
Agreed - I've had tons of android phones (G1, G2, evo and evo 3d, moto backflip, droid and droid 3, galaxy S2, nexus 1, nexus S, gnex, and even the kyocera echo), but once I went to an iphone 5, I swore I'd never go back.
Once ios7 was out though, android started looking more appealing to me again. Moto X is the phone that brought me back! I've gone to the store multiple times to play with the GS4 and the HTC one, but I could never pull the trigger.
The Moto X is the phone that brought me back to android. I love it

I'm glad I'm not the only one. MOTO X is nice.
This phone with a few tweaks with Xposed is really really great. Battery is stellar. The camera is not the best however once the software is fixed it will be fine. The only thing I'm missing is t9 dialer. I'll find a way to push the CM apk.

I agree. I also tend to always have the latest and greatest and waffle between ios and android. Most recently I came from the HTC One Developer Edition and although I really liked that phone the Moto X is much better for me. The ergonomics are just great, not much bigger than an iphone 5, and the battery is very good. The active notifications are just brilliant and with them I rarely need to use the power button, just a quick swipe and I'm were I need to be. Killer phone.
Agreed. I had the HTC One and then the GS4 Active shortly after that and now I have the Moto X. This thing runs circles around both those phones in every regard. Don't miss a single thing about either of them.

Im also very picky in how I like my phone look and function both hardware/software. im still waiting for my moto x to get unlocked But so far I still need a new ROM.
Need to remove att garbage
Need quick toggles to be customizable. Add WiFi tethering/ flashlight etc. Also don't like how single click takes you to the menu on a specific toggle instead holding it toggles the feature.
Would like paranoid ROM, halo is a nice feature I got used to on my nexus 4
Id settle for quick toggles fix and halo (not that I have a choice) STOP SAYING YOU DONT NEED ROMS!!
That being said I like how minimalistic (ROM) Motorola is now and see myself buying more of their devices. Personally hate Samsung galaxy series. There is no need for a physical buttons on screen is the way to go.
Hope the moto x gets some good people working on Roms. I love the size of this phone and really want to stop jumping from phone to phone chasing that perfect combination. But my guess is the grass will always seems to be greener on the other side......nexus 5.

The icons and fonts are much smaller than a s4 screen. Especially when you factor in the on screen buttons the actual usable screen is much less than than I was expecting. In fact I am not to sure if it is much bigger than my iPhone 5.

After soft bricking my GS4, I had to get a new phone while i work on that. I had been eyeing the Moto X and it was cheap. But now that i have been playing with it for a few days, its great. For me the Software is great, I love the voice commands, coming from an iphone i sorely missed siri and I feel that Moto X realy handles this better then the GS4.
As for hardware, I miss my GS4. The bigger screen was nice, and I loved the IR blaster.
If I could get the Moto X Rom on to the GS4 ( after I unbrick it) that would be ideal.
I've been looking at this phone but the fact is Nexus 5 will be a better device in terms of hardware, software and future updates.
Also I love the people here saying this is the best phone they've ever used. I think they copy paste that from their post on their prior phones.
I'm sure moto x is a great phone but its momentary. When you get your next phone that'll be the best one yet.
Prove me wrong, keep your moto x for 1 year and I'll be impressed. Doubt many of you in this forum will do that.

Shall I get a G2?

Well, my contract's up in a few days and my Mako is already earmarked for a new home (a friend who had her S4 stolen only a couple of weeks after getting it and is currently stuck using an HTC Desire running stock 2.2) and that means it's decision time (again.)
I'm fairly settled on a G2 (hence my post here) but I just wanted to see if anybody has any specific advice for/against. It seems like a bad time to be buying a new phone, with a round of new releases having just come up. However, I have zero interest in the S5 (I hate Samsung, although mainly for inflicting Exynos and its buggy drivers/kernels on the world, plus I ideally want a camera with OIS) and I'm very dubious of the Z2, knowing several people with badly scratched/broken Xperia Zs, and the G3 isn't due for a few months yet...
So between the Nexus 5 and the G2, I can't really see any downside in going for the latter. As much as I love my Nexus 4, and I prefer the design of the Nexus 5 to the G2, the effective cost to me is the same so I may as well have the bigger battery and better camera? I might lose fancy LG camera features by running AOSP/CM on it, but I'd be no better off with an N5 in that regard, anyway?
The new HTC one may be worth considering too.

It's a possibility. I have been very fond of HTC devices in the past, so I'll forgive them for the POS that was the One X. However, I wouldn't buy one until I knew that S-Off was a certainty after that experience (although that appears to be a given on Qualcomm devices.) From what I've seen so far, the M8 is going to be another phone with a large physical outline, a huge bezel and a small-ish screen. For that reason, the current One really never appealed to me, especially when you put one alongside the G2 and realise it's almost the same size but with a notably smaller screen...

+1 G2 is the best for screen size I just wish it's speakers were front facing instead of on the bottom then it's be the perfect phone.

Haha. Well, at least it's not on the back. Of a completely flat-backed phone :silly: That and the camera are really the only thorns in the Nexus 4's side as far as I'm concerned
Actually, it'll be quite strange adapting to the normality of laying my phone on its back, rather than its front when placing it on a flat surface, as you have to with the Nexus 4 if you want to hear it ringing!
I would go with a nexus 5 its basicaly a fully unlocked g2 some people report bad battery life with the nexus 5 but flash a different ROM and it should have better battery life the g2 has good battery life but its stock software is a joke and not only that no recovery for the kk update maybe no root as well but nexus 5 is as easy to root as as it is to turn the phone on

If I was going to keep it stock, I'd get a Nexus 5 no questions (but who here does that?!) But with both running CM/AOSP-derrived ROMs, I can't really see much downside to the G2 aside from the glossy plastic? As I understand it, there is a hack to install TWRP on the G2, and then I'm free as I would be on a 'real' Nexus.
Of course I'm a little bit worried about losing some functionality (e.g. the multi-shot night mode on the camera) but it's not like I'd get any of that with a Nexus 5 anyway...
i came from galaxys s4 and in my opinion the g2 is way better probably the best phone out today you can root kk just check forums its easy and i dont care what anyone says the battery on the nexus 5 is crap no matter what rom

I think that probably depends on your definition of crap. I've had over 5 hours of screen-on time out of my Nexus 4 and I never felt it's battery was inadequate (in fact, it's the best smartphone I've owned yet in that regard) and everything I've seen suggests the Nexus 5 manages the same or better. The appeal of the G2 for me comes from its extra battery capacity
I have both the N5 and G2 and I must say while the N5 looks pretty, the G2 does everything else better.
I'm talking battery life ,cool little features (if you like those) and the back buttons are actually awesome.
One thing about the N5 is it is a gamble when you get one. The screen may have very yellowish tint and the vibration motors suck really bad.
Imagine two swords making clashing sounds in a movie. That's how my Red 32GB N5 sounds. So I gave it to my wife...

Have to admit LG have gone beyond to make it so you don't need to use the buttons that much other than to adjust volume which they are in the perfect place, it's nice not having buttons you can press by mistake when putting it in your pocket something that happened a lot with my one x.

I had the same dilemma, whether to get a G2 or a Nexus 5. Got the G2, it was my best decision ever made. Seriously, the G2 is the better choice here. It has bigger battery, better camera, better screen-to-size ratio, name it. The Nexus 5 isn't bad, but the LG G2 is the clear winner, at least for me. If you get it, you won't regret.
Geeee twooooooo
I also have a question that will help me decide if I'll become a G2 owner. Basically I've narrowed my choices to the G2 and Note 3 out of the options out there. Both have their drawbacks and strong sides but this one topic is difficult to find info about - headphone sound quality while playing music.
One of the main purposes of my smartphones are to replace other portable music players and I like quality. I listen to Flacs or minimum 320 mp3s and this might be the decision maker for me. I've heard good things about the headphone sound quality in the Note 3 so how is the G2? Does anyone have experience of both to compare?

The G2 comes with average earphones, but it offers software audio enhancements, including an equalizer with built-in presets. If you are really into music and want the best of quality, you should get third-party quality headphones, since those that come with the G2 won't blow your mind.

CM/AOSP derived roms on the G2 are buggy. It's a fantastic device on stock based roms but if you prefare the 'google' look then I would say it's a no no.....IMHO

I would suggest you look at the new HTC one. If it's anything like (or better than) the original HTC one, the native flac playback is awesome (with beats enhancements turned off of course )

I just got my G2 earlier today and so far I'm loving it. I too have a Nexus 4 and love the Google experience. I was looking into the N5 but the battery life really turned me off. The screen on the G2 is gorgeous and while I only have half a day under my belt, it already far surpasses the battery of my N4.
I was thinking of waiting for either the new HTC One or possibly the Xperia Z2, but with the G2 being really cheap at T-Mobile right now I didn't feel like waiting for the new devices and then paying north of $600 off contract. Also, the G2 is just as, or close to, as powerful as the new phones that are coming out this year so I feel very future proofed.
Just my two cents, good luck!

New phone and screen questions.

So I'm getting a new phone for Christmas and I'd prefer not to spend more than 400 dollarsish. With that in mind the main phones I'm looking at are the LG g flex 2 ($300), the LG g4 ($430), and the moto x pure ($400). With the LG g flex 2 I'm wary of the last gen camera as well as some people complaining about graininess on the p-oled display. It is oled which I love. The overheating isn't a problem for me since I very very rarely game. The g4 has what I've heard is an amazing display but from what I've seen it looks a little blueish and it isn't that accurate. Plus, it's ips but I've heard it's contrast is excellent. Now, the moto x pure. I love the looks and supposed feel of this phone but there are two things keeping me from this phone as well. While it's display is bright and accurate, I worry about contrast ratios which seem pretty average. The second thing is that from what I've heard most if not all tempered glass screen protectors don't fit properly and leave a halo. If anyone's had any experience with any of these three you advice is welcome. Other suggestions are welcome but please try to keep it at around $400 or less
Do you like LG software? The Moto X is stock android which for folks that prefer that makes LG skin undesirable. My Moto X pure runs so smooth with very little lag (not specifically NO lag but it's few and far between) and I love the screen. Came from a 2013 x and galaxy s6 (both amoled) and I don't miss the technology at all. It's nice to have peace of mind that burn in isn't a worry and the brightness is absurd on this device. That said, I'm a bit annoyed at moto display, as you can see the whole screen turn on (since it's not amoled).
Finally, the larger screen with smaller form factor of the Moto X is a huge plus to me. The screen to body ratio is best between comparable phones. The bezels are small, the curved back gives it a nice feel and it's still one handable despite being so large.
Edit: I'm not using any case or screen protector and must day there's something about this device. The screen doesn't pick up finger prints like other phones. I find myself needing to clean this one off far less than other phones even with no screen protector.

Temp glass screen protector is a non issue mine was applied perfectly. Honestly I think people just don't know how to apply it properly sometimes. Mine looks perfect you wouldn't even be able to tell its on. I have to agree with MKBHD that this moto x pure is the best phone in its price range.

I had the G4 and loved it. My vision isn't that great so as long as there's no screen burn in I can't tell one display from another. I loved being able to swap batteries and of course the sd card slot. I'm on Verizon so the locked bootloader and lack of development eventually drove me away. I also had touchscreen issues. Sometimes touches didn't register at all or they did incorrectly. And LG has by far the worst stock keyboard I've ever used. It would autocorrect words that were typed correctly to gibberish. But that's an easy fix to change the keyboard. Even so, it would often miss keystrokes so a good keyboard would still be off sometimes.
I've been using a MXP since they released and I love it. I honestly have no major complaints. I sorta wish it had a fully functional notification light but I have a Wear watch so that's really not needed. I installed a $5 eBay glass screen protector and it fits like a glove. I paid extra for the 64gb and sorta wish I'd have saved money and got the 16gb. The imminent Marshmallow update will allow you to format an sd card to be used as internal memory.

Had the g4 and its a beauty especially the camera but I'm a sucker for stock Android and this moto is excellent . Bright high resolution screen and stock plus a few extra moto apps that make stock even better, love motos notifications ... I'd take the pure over the g4 I have not regretted it one bit. And moto maker is awesome I got Ref bezels and black leather it looks phenomenal

I just recently switched from an LG G3 to this phone. No regrets so far!
The screen is fine, might be better than my G3. Performance difference is almost night and day! The G3 is one of the most laggiest I've had. Even the LG G2 beats it in that regard.
As for the camera, I rarely use it, but it seems like it's on par with the G3.
As for the user experience, I might hand it to the G3 (or I'm still adjusting?). I miss the double tap to wake/sleep, ability to customize nav bar icons, organize quick toggles etc.
I just feel that stock android is too much restricted now (I'll definitely give CM13 a try in the future).
There's a major annoyance/bug in the Moto X Pure - the notification/ringtone sounds are buggy. They always fail to play the notif/ringtone sound. What an annoyance. I always miss texts/FB messages, you name it.
Lastly for the battery, it's slightly better. I'm always getting 4-5hrs of SoT compared to my G3 (3-4hrs max only).

Can you give me a link to your protector?
Thanks everybody for your replies I think I might go for the X pure if anyone has any other suggestions in this price range I'm still open to suggestions also, is it worth it to spend the extra $50 for the 32 gb version? I have a micro SD card so media storage won't be on the phone storage primarily. many thanks
Might be depending the SD card you have. Android mm can use SD as internal so the 16 might be on if you've got a big card. I personally went with 64 and I have 128 GB card so I'm maxed out.
Here is the link to the protector I got

I've also tried the skinomi in the past but I like this brand better

The LG G3 skin is ugly. The dialer is the ugliest thing I have ever had to look at. Go with the Moto.

There's a flashable mod to remove the increasing notif/ringing sound. Hopefully that clears it.
