Snapchat Lenses feature - Galaxy S3 Neo Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does the new Snapchat Lenses feature work for anyone? It does not for my 9301 on Resurrection Remix 5.5.5 .

I got answers.
the problem is that for android users, it might be a while. I was looking at a survey that said only 2.5% of android users could use the new lenses. I think apple and snapchat are collaborating but that is just speculation, or maybe they have some serious bugs.

Snapchat says the feature is not available on all android devices due to technical restrictions. (My picture is in german sorry)

Yeah well it works on my cousins s6 edge so i'm thinking of modifying the build.prop to fake the phone model, maybe it will work.

[Q] DUAL CAMERA SUPPORT - GT-i9505

Firstly, I'm NOT a Developer - I want to make that very clear
I have been trying to get data/info about what ever happened to the Original Samsung Galaxy S4 'TouchWiz'
Camera feature/ability to be able to 'Simultaneously' record videos (not talking about taking pictures here)
with both the front and back cameras on the phone.
This question has been asked before by a very very very small number of people on the net including in XDA
developers forums, However these questions only have been asked on forums relating to NEXUS phones/devices.
When i originally bought my S4 (second hand) i used the recording feature, i absolutely love it, i think it it brilliant,
it is one of the reasons why the S4 has such appeal for me.
I later upgraded to CyanogenMod, because of privacy concerns relating to Samsungs Involvement with the NSA over
their KNOX security.
The OS seemed fine to me, but this security concern was the basis of WHY i moved over to CyanogenMod.
Then i found out, that CyanogenMod does NOT Support the Dual Camera feature.
I contacted Samsung, and they told me that the Camera app was not really an app at all, but was in fact part of the OS itself.
But remember, the Genuine Samsung Galaxy is actually model number GT-i9500, which uses the Exynos Chip, unlike the Samsung Galaxy S4
variant known as the S4 LTE GT-i9505, which uses the Qualcom Chipset.
It has also been said by some XDA developers, that Samsungs 'TouchWiz' is not Open Source, it is Closed Source.
Well belonging to the company, this is no surprise, I'll also bet that it is probably Patented as well.
I say, so what ?, CyanogenMod does NOT need the original samsung 'TouchWiz' code, it only needs to know the HardwareSpecs of the Qualcom
Chip, then programming/developing can begin.
The S4 is already Superceeded by the S5 (and any possible variant(s) of that), i feel that the GT-i9505 is getting left out of the picture.
Are there any answers to this mystery ???

Ad Blocking

Hey Mako Users,
Just wanted to see what apps people are using for blocking ads, preferably one that has material design or is optimized for Lolipop

adaway, Google it
I have been using Adaway since I bought my Nexus 4 when the phone was first released. I don't even know what an ad looks like because I have never got a single one....not even one. Works fine on Lollipop 5.0.2, but I can't speak if it is optimized for Lollipop, nor do I care.

How will CM DEATH impact A7?

If you have thoughts on this topic, please share.
It seems unfortunate from my view. Was there a lesson to be learned? Will the new one carry on?
Sent from my ZTE A2017U using XDA-Developers mobile app
I think LineageOS will carry on the legacy. It will hault development for almost every office until LineageOS gets finished though.
Besides rebranding, It won't affect the A7 at all. The person who's been working on CM13 has nothing to do with Cyanogen.

Xiaomi answer to request for enabling camera2 api

I had emailed to xiaomi global services and requested them to enable camera2 api feature by default in future updates, the email and their answer are in the attached pics and below:
Email:
Hello
I'm using mi a2 and suffering lack of camera2 api feature. I don't want to unlock and flash my phone due to bricking risk. So please enable camera2 api on Mi A2 by default, or at least inform us to wait fo feature or not.
Another thing is mi a2 secondary rear camera. It has PDAF and can do a better and smoother auto focus than main camera while video recording. (Main camera beating on auto focus). If that is possible please enable video recording by secondary rear camera on default camera app and other apps as photo shooting is enabled in camera app manual mode.
Xiaomi answer:
Dear Customer,
Greetings from Xiaomi Escalation Desk.
This is to inform you that Mi A2 uses native Google system, none of these default Settings have been changed,
and it is not recommended to change them manually, which may cause some system exception.
Thank you for being a valued customer.
Thanks & Regards,
Saif Ulla
Xiaomi Escalation Desk
Is seems they have no plan to enable it
Ah, I actually ripped my ass off on that,I sent them emails about Camera2 API, Created a bug report in Google AOSP website, even started a Twitter campaign and replied to every single tweet from Xiaomi with #ARCore_For_Mi_A2 and also #Camera2_API_For_Mi_A2. In emails they said they look into my suggestion which is basically the thing that companies do when people are asking them for an issue and they just want to get rid of it, And I went through a lot of pain being on Twitter doing that campaign because I was bored due to the massive amount of curses people were just saying to me and you know at the end Xiaomi actually blocked me from replying to their tweets so I pulled myself out of that game. According to papers Google forces OEMs on Enabling Camera2 API on devices shipped with Android pie and higher, Xiaomi wants to keep the amount of features in it's A series at minimum. Doesn't matter if it's just a simple API or ARCore or NFC, Xiaomi doesn't care about It's A series and tries to offer nothing more than what it's obligated to do from Google as an Android One OEM.
Xiaomeme is a good Hardware Company with bad Software, exactly opposite of Google.
Basically Xiaomeme's strategy is updating Android version and adding no features to it's Android One devices and Adding features and not updating the Android version on it's MIUI devices.

What is the ARcore for? And why is it important on this device?

Augmented Reality
For example you can stand next to a growling Hulk in a movie you shoot, or play games where space ships fly through your living room.

Well I did use ARCore on MI A2 so it runs. (In case you are wondering, there is a way to enable ARCore if you have Magisk but discussing it here will be going OT)

If I flash OREO custom ROM, will my Note 4 still represent as marshmallow in Play Store ?

Hi friends,
Background: I have DirecTV Streaming Service for my home because it offers 5.1 surround.
I HAD their mobile app on my Sprint Note 4 but before Sprint was purchased by T-Mo I was prompted to update the app in the Play Store.
When I tried a dialog popped up saying that my Android 6 Marshmallow phone was no longer compatible and that DirecTV Stream now required Android 7, Android 8 recommended.
If I successfully flash an OREO 8.1 ROM will the Play Store permit me to update my app or will they see that I am a Note 4 and deny me ?
And although YTTV/Hulu etc apps still work on Marshmallow they have poor audio for my home surround system .
No, it will only see the actual version of Android.
I actually flashed CRDROID Oreo 8.1 and was then able to download the latest apk from the playstore.
Installed and ran perfectly...
BUT, my WIFI connection repeatedly disconnected.
So did my bluetooth.
And my S-Pen was neutered.
Battery life abysmal.
Also, OREO was simply baffling to me.
Nothing like the Marshmallow that I am used to.
I wish that there was a way to "spoof" my android version and APPEAR as Nougat 7.
The Note 4 itself proved that it can run the app A-OK.
When Sprint died I just assumed that the latest Samsung offering would be better than my 7 year old phone.
So I bought a brand new A52 in August 21.
$450.00 wasted.
I hate it.
Stupid aspect-ratio results in black bands while streaming.
The display IS an inch wider (in landscape mode), 6.7 inches vs 5.7 inches.
BUT, considerably shorter (in landscape mode) which translates to LESS screen area.
As a result, typing is nearly impossible on the diminished keyboard.
No replaceable battery.
No S-Pen.
Overall, a big step BACKWARD !
<rant off>
Maybe try https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...experience-pie-trlte-tblte-trlteduos.3925885/ (PixelExperience 9)?
There are tons of roms and at least 1 will suit your needs

Thanks pal...I have only flashed the OREO I mentioned so I am a very green newbie.
I have seen positive comments about Pixel so I will give it a shot.
Android 9 > 8. Any apps for 8 will work on 9 (or 10 and 11 and so on)
Hi Gang,
I thought that I'd update my results for those who are interested.
I eventually got comfortable flashing the Custom ROMs/GApps and tried many variants from 7(Nougat) up to Lineage 18.1(Android 11).
I tried a Pixel Experience package with included GApps that was very nice but on THIS particular ROM the DTVS(DirecTV Stream) APK would not install.
I suspect that the very comprehensive included GApps somehow betrayed my device's true identity.
All the other ROMs that I successfully flashed permitted the installation of the DTVS APK and it streamed flawlessy on each of them.
I do not understand why Marshmallow 6.0.1 is no longer considered sufficient.
Anyway, in the end I was really enjoying CRDroid 10 but something I had not considered made this entire exercise moot.
My home has terrible cellular reception and WIFI-Calling is indispensible for phone connnections.
What I had not realized was that WIFI-Calling is associated with each carrier's customization and cannot be incorporated into Custom ROMs as it is closely held proprietary information.
And so I have returned to the stock T-MO ROM I started out with.
Like anyone else I must be able to reliably contact emergency services for police, fire, medical, etc.
So my current solution is to leave my Mint Mobile SIM Card installed in the Note 4 while I am at home.
And if I wish to stream DTVS(via cellular) while I am out and about I must transfer the SIM to my Huawei Mate 10 which runs EMUI 12 (Android10).
It lacks WIFI Calling so it cannot be my home phone, BUT, it streams DTVS perfectly on a nice 16:9 display (no black bands on each side).
Swapping the card is a hassle but it's the best option I could think of.
I hope other users can somehow profit from my experience.
Weird. The app is not looking for the phone model; it's looking for the Android version.
Correct !
I can only assume that the model and droid version are conflated since the Note 4 was last updated in 2015 (marshmallow 6.0.1) and no further updates were/are authorized.
And so if the app sees Note 4 it can only be 6.0.1 max.
Just guessing here.
I spent alot of time studying build.prop mods to spoof my version but that never panned out.
I feel like I need to restate this: it doesn’t care if you have a note4 and limit based on that. It only limits based on version of Android.
Weird that PixelExperience didn’t work….

2016. That's when Marshmallow was released. 2015 was Lollipop
I Recently learned of a Magisk Module called "Hide Props Config"

Trying to understand how this might work to make MY android version masquerede as a newer version that would permit the installation of the DTVS APK.
It appears that having rooted via Chainfire that I would need to unroot and then start over with Magisk.
Something about the stock boot.img being patched creating an obstacle to the installation.
Has anyone successfully installed Magisk while previously rooted ?
I tried and the app installs but two critical buttons are grayed out at the bottom of the app.
SU and Modules.
Anyone ???
