Help troubleshooting Nexus Player
I got my player about a month ago. After about a week, I started to get the audio drop issue. I contacted support, and they just had me RMA it. So I got my new device, and no Audio drops. However I have other problems. I can not cast to the device, it doesn't show up in my list of devices in my browser, and when I try from my phone, it instantly disconnects. Also every time I try to watch a video on Netflix I about 1 second of video before an error says it can't play this title, try again later (AIP-703). I worked with Nexus support and got no where, so I went rogue. Downloaded 6.0 marshmallow and flashed my device, it loaded up, but The Netflix app wouldn't load, and I did not try casting. So I wiped the device and installed 5.1.1 again, and back to the same issue. Looking for any advice. to help clear this up as phone support is next to useless.
There was a very recent update that does some system improvements and tweaks. Reportedly fixes casting, not sure what else. Go into settings, about, and check for updates.
As far as Netflix, the most recent app works fine for me. I would check to see if yours is fully updated. If it's still problematic, remove it and try side loading the Sony version with ES File Explorer http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60723403&postcount=24
I couldn't cast to my nexus player after i updated the "google cast receiver app". I unistalled the update and everything went back to normal. I'm on 5.1.1.
Casting netflix on nexus player sucks. It will cast only if the profile selected on the nexus player is the same as the one on your phone or tablet( and the same netflix account of course ).
I will update to 6.0 if anyone confirms that sixaxis is working since i'm using my ps3 controllers.
update ?
Did you ever get this fixed i recently RMA mines and am having the same issues. They told me they changed the motherboard when i asked.

Hey everyone!
I'm having an issue that I can't seem to resolve. I have a Galaxy S5 that recently received the lollipop update. Prior to this update when playing music from Google Play Music the track/artist metadata would pass and show up on my car's stereo display. Post update I can still connect, play music over bluetooth, and control the music with steering wheel/dash controls, but the metadata no longer displays (using Google Play Music).
I did some different tests and if I play a mp3 file from the stock music app the metadata is passed. I also connected my wife's phone ( Moto X still on KitKat) and tried streaming music though GP Music and the metadata shows up as expected. I've tried deleting/pairing my phone again and even did a factory reset on my S5 last night, but nothing seems to resolve this.
I know there seems to be hit or miss with AVRCP. I haven't been able to find much in terms of actual information and thought I'd check in to see if anyone has had a similar experience or would possibly have a solution.
Thanks!
I am also having the same issue. Sprint basically told me that it isn't their problem and to wait it out. I've downloaded suggested apps and everything else except doing a hard reset.
MP3 metadata not showing over Bluetooth in car - T-Mobile
I just updated to the latest release for my Galaxy S5, Lollipop, and everything seems to work like a champ, except the streaming of music from my phone to my car's in-dash receiver. Prior to the upgrade, everything worked great. All metadata was passed along, as well as the track progress, and skip forward and backward. After the update, the music will play just fine, but I cannot skip tracks from my car stereo or steering wheel controls any more, I have to do it from my phone. Also, none of the metadata is passed along to my stereo.
I use the stock music app on my phone, but I also tried the Google Play Music app, and it does the same thing. The MP3 files are all stored locally on my SD card.
I'm hoping someone else out there has had this problem, and has solved it. Thanks.

I have exactly the same problem. After the lolipop upgrade of S5 I was not able to see the track/artist name on the display of my car anymore. However the there is no problem with streaming of music to car speakers. I'm using spotify but I tried playing mp3 files and different applications. None of them worked. Car display only shows the device name of the S5. I contacted Samsung support with the hope to get an answer and the first thing they asked was whether I tried the device with another bluetooth capable device. No way! I have another car but no bluetooth capability. Recently Samsung deployed another update after lolipop upgrade but the same again.
Having the artis/track name; does it contribute too much? won't make you fly but it was there when we had the kit kat on S5 and missing at the moment. Yes I have the same problem but don't have a resolution... Would be great to hear different ideas or a workaround from Samsung!
Thanks.
Same problem here on my Galaxy S5 with TW Lollipop. I'm so disappointed about all the stuff that changed (e.g notifications) or does not work like Bluetooth avrcp. I start to regret the update to LP. And I wated over a year...
A temporary fix could be to download Music mate from the app store, (it can pull songs from play music onto your device). Not sure if this would help you guys as it seems some of you have already got local access to the mp3s etc.
Just thought I'd say anyway just incase.
Good luck

Thanks for the suggestion. Music Mate needs a Google Play account which I don't have. I tried another suggested app which should fix this temporary (Bluetooth something) but it did not work. Which I had suspected because the root cause seams to be AVRCP 1.5 inside Android Lollipop instead of older backward compatible versions 1.3 or 1.4. The suspicion is that Google's engeenier didn't have older / legacy / enough different Bluetooth car cits to test. Compiling the source code with a compiler switch, which disables AVRCP 1.5 leads to working meta information. Because Bluedroid is a new proprietary stack newly build by Google it doesn't help to have its source open. There is no APK which we can exchange with a working older version. Instead it seams to be compiled into core components of Android. So the only two chances seams to be:
1. Samsung / Your Handset provider pushes an update which fixes this
2. somebody finds a way through XPOSED to patch the relevant stuff into a life Lollipop.
I'm on stock 5.1 with root. I've been streaming video stored locally on my N4 to TV using VLC for a while. Lately when I do this, the video is choppy/stutters. I want to say this has started happening since the upgrade to 5.1 (from 5.0.1). Anyone else having this issue and/or know of a fix?
Either your internet suddenly got bad, or your chrome cast software (on your phone) may be outdated, as there was recently an update. Other than that, it may be a problem with the Chromecast itself, your ROM, or your T.V.
Netflix Audio Woes
I know this has been talked about a lot, but nothing in the past month or so...
Netflix (ver. 2.3.0) won't play 5.1 audio but Kodi plays surround sound without problems. Netflix support also says it's not their app and that is it something lost in translation (maybe literally) when the NP outputs to the AVR. The AVR has not had any issues with the DD+ from Chromecast Netflix - I'm stumped.
Any thoughts? Anyone having similar issues? I just picked up the NP yesterday btw.
Thanks for the input!
I have exactly the same problem. Netflix says, it correctly delivers 5.1 audio to the player, but my pioneer AV receiver just gets 2.0 PCM!
What I have tested so far:
Netflix-App on Nexus 5 -> Chromecast -> Pioneer VSX-924: DD+ 5.1 OK
Netflix-App on Nexus Player -> Pioneer VSX-924: just 2.0 PCM
Netflix-App on Nexus Player -> Onkyo TX-SR606: DD+ 5.1 OK
I have swapped cables and inputs.
Netflix blames Pioneer, Pioneer blames Google/ASUS, ASUS says "its a compatibility issue we cannot help"
simpsojp, what AVR do you have?
Hi,
Seeing an similar issue on my brand new Denon AVR-X2200.
Only getting PCM when choosing 5.1 in Netflix. Getting distorted sound.
Seeing the same problem in Plex on my Nexus player.
All other inputs works fine. Chromecast, tv tuner etc..

I have a Pioneer VSX-1019ah-k. I just naively tried editing build.prop to set media.aac_51_output_enabled=false but as one would expect, it was not that easy. I know my AVR (and probably yours chr1ssss) can't decode AAC 5.1 so if something in the NP is taking the Netflix audio stream and converting it to AAC 5.1, I would just get a stereo PCM audio stream. Other's with newer Onkyo AVRs seem to have success so it has to be a codec output issue.
I believe this is not a Netflix problem but an Android OS problem. I'm going to try flashing Marshmallow as another easy fix attempt but I'm not holding out much hope. If anyone has any suggestions to the proper use of the build.prop settings, I'm all ears. In no way do I want an AAC 5.1 stream leaving my NP!
I can happily report that Marshmallow worked!!! NP now let's Netflix pass through 5.1 DD+!! Now to get root back.

Thanks for your reply, I will update to Marshmallow asap.
I was emailing with Pioneer and chatting with Netflix multiple times - everybody keeped blaming the other company
Google never responded to any of my questions.
Marshmallow did it!
DD+ now works.
Glad it worked for you too!
Marshmallow fixed my issue too. Nexus Player + Pioneer Elite SC-67. I always just got static when trying to play 5.1 in Netflix before. Now it is fixed in 6.0
Did you have to enable a setting for pass through or did it just work?

AFAIK there are no audio settings which could be adjusted, neither in Android itself nor in Netflix. If the Netflixapp recognizes that your euqipment is capabble to play DD+ 5.1 it offers the audiotrack.
Unfortunately even after Marshmallow Netflix still wont play DD, as a test i installed the Archos Player and it played movies in 5.1 with no issues so it's not the nexus player, anyone have any ideas, something I could try?
thank you.

What AVR are you using?
5.1 and DolbyDigital/DolbyDigitalPlus are not the same. I was able to play 5.1 PCM via Google Play Movies even with Lollipop.

I have Yamaha YSP-3000 it supports Dolby Digital Pro Logic II
Has anyone gotten any further with this? Is there some trick to getting it to work?
For most of us, updating to Android 6 fixed the issue.
Not for me, unfortunately - Kodi & Plex output DD, Netflix does not. Running 6.0.1. Anything else I could try to get it to work?
Swapping cables, resetting and updating devices you could try. As there is no setting to adjust or logs you could check, your options are pretty limited.
Contacting the vendorsupport might help too.
Hi Guys,
i have some troubles with my new 6P...
Everythings works fine. Almost everything. I have a good internet connection but i can't watch Netflix or Youtube the way i want.
Netflix Problem:
With my Chromecast 2 everything works fine, but if i want to watch a episode on my phone, there's only sound but no video...
Youtube Problem:
Since the last update of the Youtube app i can't stream HD Videos without buffering every 10-15 seconds. As I said, my internet is quit good (10+ MB/s).
My Device:
Nexus 6P 64GB
CyanogenMod 13 Nightlies (newest)
FrancoKernel
Xposed
Thank you for your help, Manuel
So I have been having this problem only occur on the Netflix application. Youtube is working just fine. I have tried casting Netflix using the Microsoft Wireless Adapter and it doesn't play like it should. I don't have any other casting devices to test it. I can see the subtitles and hear the sound but the image itself is not showing up on the screen at all.
I tried turning off all the themes from CMTE and reboot the phone so that it is back to stock and it still isn't working. So it may not be theme related.
My Device:
Nexus 6P 32GB
PureNexus CMTE version 3/15/2016 (Clean Install)
ElementalX Kernel (No device changes, all basic config)
Hey Everybody,
just purchased a Nexus Player and need some help.
Google Casting doesn't work as it should. It appers in every Cast-Enabled app, but it won't connect.
On my Chromecast everything works fine.
It worked on Lollipop but after the marshmallow update it broke.
I'm now on Android N beta and it still doesn't work.
The Google Cast Receiver is the newest version 1.18.55065
I can connect youtube (but only sometimes)
Google Play Music and almost every othet app won't connect.
Netflix connects, but there's always a problem when i try to start a stream.
I can’t even watch Netflix from the Android TV itself.
- factory resetted 3 times
- deleted appdata of google cast receiver
- uninstalled google cast receiver updates
- force closed google cast receiver
I don't know what to try.. my next step will be, to download the Pure Nexus Rom from xda..
Could it me a problem with my network? i would not think so, because my Chromecast works perfectly.
I would really appreciate it, if someone could help me
I don't own a Chromecast, just the Nexus Player since last year, and the cast thing has NEVER worked for me. When I bought it it updated to Android 6 right away so I couldn't test the cast with the previous version. I doesn't work. Then I went to the Android N preview, still no luck. Now I'm on PureNexus and still the same thing. The closest thing to casting I've ever got was using Kodi on the NP and Kore on my phone, and "Share" a youtube video from my phone to kore, then kodi. I wonder what the problem might be since I havent had any problem at all with my Apple devices on Airplay....
Just got a new one, and the problem is gone.
still thanks for your help
