Hey everyone!
I'm having an issue that I can't seem to resolve. I have a Galaxy S5 that recently received the lollipop update. Prior to this update when playing music from Google Play Music the track/artist metadata would pass and show up on my car's stereo display. Post update I can still connect, play music over bluetooth, and control the music with steering wheel/dash controls, but the metadata no longer displays (using Google Play Music).
I did some different tests and if I play a mp3 file from the stock music app the metadata is passed. I also connected my wife's phone ( Moto X still on KitKat) and tried streaming music though GP Music and the metadata shows up as expected. I've tried deleting/pairing my phone again and even did a factory reset on my S5 last night, but nothing seems to resolve this.
I know there seems to be hit or miss with AVRCP. I haven't been able to find much in terms of actual information and thought I'd check in to see if anyone has had a similar experience or would possibly have a solution.
Thanks!
I am also having the same issue. Sprint basically told me that it isn't their problem and to wait it out. I've downloaded suggested apps and everything else except doing a hard reset.
MP3 metadata not showing over Bluetooth in car - T-Mobile
I just updated to the latest release for my Galaxy S5, Lollipop, and everything seems to work like a champ, except the streaming of music from my phone to my car's in-dash receiver. Prior to the upgrade, everything worked great. All metadata was passed along, as well as the track progress, and skip forward and backward. After the update, the music will play just fine, but I cannot skip tracks from my car stereo or steering wheel controls any more, I have to do it from my phone. Also, none of the metadata is passed along to my stereo.
I use the stock music app on my phone, but I also tried the Google Play Music app, and it does the same thing. The MP3 files are all stored locally on my SD card.
I'm hoping someone else out there has had this problem, and has solved it. Thanks.

I have exactly the same problem. After the lolipop upgrade of S5 I was not able to see the track/artist name on the display of my car anymore. However the there is no problem with streaming of music to car speakers. I'm using spotify but I tried playing mp3 files and different applications. None of them worked. Car display only shows the device name of the S5. I contacted Samsung support with the hope to get an answer and the first thing they asked was whether I tried the device with another bluetooth capable device. No way! I have another car but no bluetooth capability. Recently Samsung deployed another update after lolipop upgrade but the same again.
Having the artis/track name; does it contribute too much? won't make you fly but it was there when we had the kit kat on S5 and missing at the moment. Yes I have the same problem but don't have a resolution... Would be great to hear different ideas or a workaround from Samsung!
Thanks.
Same problem here on my Galaxy S5 with TW Lollipop. I'm so disappointed about all the stuff that changed (e.g notifications) or does not work like Bluetooth avrcp. I start to regret the update to LP. And I wated over a year...
A temporary fix could be to download Music mate from the app store, (it can pull songs from play music onto your device). Not sure if this would help you guys as it seems some of you have already got local access to the mp3s etc.
Just thought I'd say anyway just incase.
Good luck

Thanks for the suggestion. Music Mate needs a Google Play account which I don't have. I tried another suggested app which should fix this temporary (Bluetooth something) but it did not work. Which I had suspected because the root cause seams to be AVRCP 1.5 inside Android Lollipop instead of older backward compatible versions 1.3 or 1.4. The suspicion is that Google's engeenier didn't have older / legacy / enough different Bluetooth car cits to test. Compiling the source code with a compiler switch, which disables AVRCP 1.5 leads to working meta information. Because Bluedroid is a new proprietary stack newly build by Google it doesn't help to have its source open. There is no APK which we can exchange with a working older version. Instead it seams to be compiled into core components of Android. So the only two chances seams to be:
1. Samsung / Your Handset provider pushes an update which fixes this
2. somebody finds a way through XPOSED to patch the relevant stuff into a life Lollipop.

Hey everyone, I currently own a Ford Fiesta which has Sync. I'm trying to shed some light regarding MTP(USB) and Ford Sync.
So far, my research shows that the Galaxy Nexus which introduced MTP, people would have their playlist get stuck at "Indexing" and you were not able to sync through USB (Bluetooth pairing works fine).
I've tried the regular methods of, factory resetting SYNC and doing a master reset on my car. Anyone have better experience with this situation? Advice?
As a background, the only music I have is Google Music. I currently have a couple albums in my device but the rest are uploaded. Tomorrow morning I'm going to try updating my software (which I believe is already up to date) but worth a shot. I have the Nexus 4 running (Android 4.2 [doy!])
Help would be greatly appreciated!

Selfless BUMP.
If this doesn't work is there anyway I can make a (Music)folder partitioned so that it will mount ?
I know currently there's not MTP to USB Mass Storage mode :/ but there has to be a way to get this working
How good is the Nexus 4 working with Sync? Anything to look out for or any tips you can provide? Gonna be trying it with my Ford soon. What works and what doesn't work?
I happen to have a Fiesta with sync... I've never tried plugging my N4 into it, though... I either just stream Pandora (get the Pandora app link if you haven't yet; it's awesome!) or play music from my thumb drive. If you'd like, I can give it a try in my car and see if I get any other results.
BTW, does your phone work with text messaging?

Pretty good... the sound quality is noticeably worse than my older phone, though, but it's not too bad. Pairing is a lot quicker I've noticed. Text messaging doesn't work, however... I know only a few phones do, though.
I'm just curious if you can get all the wireless Bluetooth functionality that Ford Sync claims? Such as reading of incoming text messages, voice activated calling, things like that. Does it work for you? I'm guessing by your question that text messaging does not work, sadly.
Here's a summary of my experience.
-Currently, MTP on the Nexus 4 makes USB Audio not sync, so you can't play music through USB (You'll get stuck at Indexing FOREVER).
-Bluetooth Audio works pretty well however you won't get info such as Artist, Song name, etc.
-Streaming audio through bluetooth doesn't let you do "Play Artist XXX or Play Song XXX" that USB Audio CAN provide.
-With that said, like someone said above me, you can use a USB thumb drive just fine to play a bunch of songs. If you have a Ford Fiesta 2012, there's a secret Secondary USB2 for developers which works PERFECTLY fine. (http://www.fiestafaction.com/forums/ice-car-entertainment/31647-second-usb-port-19.html)
-Sync can read your messages once it does come in but you have to press OK a couple of times.
-The Sync Messaging system is TERRIBLE. You cannot reply with a custom message. You always have to use preset ones. I really wish someone is able to hack the sync button to call Google Now or something.. that would be AWESOME.
-Using Pandora App Link works pretty well, you can skip tracks and pause it's awesome.
-Sync Services can be pretty useful. I recommend using downloading an app called Send To Car, which lets you go on google maps, type a location or business address and "share" it to Send to Car which then sends it to your car so you can navigate.
Sync isn't perfect, but it has an even share of good and bad. If you're in to buying a Ford Fiesta, I recommend holding off for the 2014 version which will support MyFord Touch. This actually allows AVRCP1.3 so you can stream audio track names etc through bluetooth.
Thanks for the information!

I agree, now that would be great.
Shameless bump.
So I found out today my friend's S3 is able to stream music through USB in his Ford. According to my car forums as well iPhone 5 users are able to do the same on SYNC capable cars. :/ I know these phones incorporate MTP style storage so why can't my Nexus 4 do it ): .

Hi darkamikaze,
Can you let me know what version of Ford Sync you are running? I'm going to guess it's an non-MyFord Touch system, which seems to have more support for the Bluetooth MAP profile.
I've got a Nexus 4 on order, and running the latest MyFord Touch system. I will report back if this seems to work any better.
Yes I have the Gen1 on my Fiesta'12 which I know for a fact will never get the better bluetooth profile which allows media info to be passed along to my fiesta's dash.
Still unfortunate that I can't get the damn USB-To-Nexus 4 working -_-; Forever stuck at indexing.
Just for everyone's information:

It would be interesting to eventually see an app to interface with Google Now. Additionally, I believe that Ford Sync systems use the i.MX516 ARM with processorWEIMX: Windows® Embedded for i.MX Applications Processor. I could be wrong about the OS though. It would be cool if they made the OS code open source, imagine the possibilities.
That is fantastic news! I'm gonna try to dive into this right now!

Another thing beside music is the calling feature. When I receive a call and wanted to take it on private then I should answer from the phone not the wheel button nor the dashboard screen but when I do so the call would still trans to the car audio. When I used blackberry before I used to answer from wheel/dashboard for car audio call OR I could answer from the phone to have a private call on the handset.
Any thoughts?

I picked my car up on Wednesday. I've not tried my N4 with it via Bluetooth Audio yet as I have a 32gb USB Drive doing nothing so I've just put that in there.
The only issue I'm having is getting Text Messaging working with my N4. It just says that the Nexus 4 does not support this feature. I've looked around and found people mentioning the MAP Profile setting but I can't find it anywhere. My only guess is that this setting doesn't exist on the UK Version which is built in to the new Fiesta.
People from the UK can't even register on Syncmyride.com
Using Services (Sending Location)
Is anyone else here having an issue with Ford Sync Services & their Nexus 4s? Specifically, I have a Ford Fiesta with the latest Sync SW, and every time I use Services (for instance to get directions or to find out traffic), it says it can't find my location.
Just want to rule out that it's the phone that's the problem- so has anyone successfully done this with their N4s?
Thanks!

Trying to help some one in the States with the same problem... They have a 2013 Ford Focus + Nexus 4... The Nexus 4 pairs with MyTouch Sync just fine.. But for messaging it says the device aka Nexus 4 is not compatible with Bluetooth Messaging.... Been trying to find ow to activate or check if MAP Profile allows for Bluetooth Messaging...
I am wondering if the 4.2.2 update will address any of the BT profile problems... ( Never mind.. Seems Google hasn't fix any of the BT problems with 4.2.2... WTF Google..)
PM me if u find a solution.. I'll do the same...

All I've found is that the Nexus 4 lacksthe BT MAP Profile which is required by Sync to use Text Messaging. Samsung devices on the other hand have the BT MAP Profile, so my girlfriends phone works fine with it.
CM 10.1 supposedly has the profile but it's broken. I've been checking the nightlies but no one has fixed it yet. If I knew what I was doing I'd have a go at porting the profile over from a samsung device myself.

I also have been trying CM 10.1 to get MAP working so I can access text messages on MyFord Touch in my Focus. Just updated to CM 10.1 RC2 and it still isn't working for me.
I just want to know whose hare-brained idea it was to eliminate UMS from Android in the first place.
Both my N4 and my wife's SGS3 (i747) get stuck at "INDEXING" forever when plugging into Sync in our 2012 Fusion. She actually switched back to her HTC Vivid because of it.
Here's to hoping 10.1 final will restore UMS functionality.
I had the "indexing forever problem" when I first tried USB with nexus 4.I noticed that a couple minutes in the phone would show "media.process has stopped". What I did was clear the USB mass storage cache. Settings>apps>all>media storage>clear cache. Then no problems. Sync finished indexing in a minute and media voice control works fine. I use syncmyitunes to add music. When I first had problems I deleted all music on phone and added only one song to the music folder to index the first time. This might help also. Now after all this, sync occasionally states it has detected a new device and indexes again. Usually this is when I forget to plug in the phone BEFORE starting the car. Hope this helps someone.
Trying to connect the N4 to a car Bluetooth audio (2012 model car, relatively new, only 9 months old).
(1) I had a very hard time getting the two paired: lots of "connection failed" attempts until they finally connected.
(2) The phone does not send artist/track info which is surprising as I have an older LG phone running Android 2.3.4 and that sends all the info.
(3) Without any music being streamed to the car audio, if I make a phone call via the car bluetooth, when the call ends the music player on the N4 starts automatically. This is very annoying, not sure if it's a problem with the car implementation sending a "play" command at the end of the call or the N4 doing something weird. I tend to blame the N4 as two other phones, an iPhone and the older LG mentioned above do not do this.
(4) The car has a play/pause toggle that it can send to the bluetooth player. Pause works, the player on the N4 pauses, but then play doesn't work, I have to hit play on the device.
(5) After I use bluetooth on the N4, I find that sometimes the widget toggle can no longer turn bluetooth on/off until I reboot the phone.
(6) After I use bluetooth on the N4, the phone sometimes randomly reboots. Not sure if it's really related or just a coincidence. Given (5) above I suspect something is going on.
Anyone else having such a hard time with the bluetooth part? Potential hardware issue or simply buggy software that we can hope to get addressed at some point?
I have experienced the issue with track information not being sent. Also random changes in volume during playback. Seems there's still some work that needs to be done in 4.2 regarding blue tooth.

Is this an issue that can be addressed by flashing a custom ROM or perhaps using a different music player than stock or is there more to it, deep down in the bluetooth drivers and it would need a fix from Google in the form of new drivers?
Yeah I have had a few issues too. My track/artist/album names do not send where my S2 sends them. Also the headunit I have has buttons for shuffle and repeat and these do not show up at all (I assume because it detects they aren't supported). I haven't taken a call yet or tried turning BT off after streaming but I'll give it a shot and see.. My nexus 4 also randomly shuts down for no apparent reason sometimes (rarely atm). I think it's just 4.2.1 problems - I doubt a different music app will fix it (I tried one), custom ROM may work though..
My N4 is paired with an Alpine 135BT and it's worked very well so far. I initially had some trouble connecting but once they were paired I didn't have any additional connection issues. The N4 does automatically play as soon as it connects to the unit. I've got BeyondPod and Spotify installed and for whatever reason it always defaults to BeyondPod instead of Spotify even if I had BeyondPod closed and Spotify open. Not a big deal to me though.
Are you running the stock rom or a custom rom? I had my EVO LTE hooked up to the same head unit. It worked perfectly on the stock software but gave me all kinds of trouble when I started using custom roms. Otherwise, it could just be that the N4 and your particular head unit just don't play nicely together.

(1) Haven't had any connection issues so far on my vehicle or my wife's.
(2) Currently stock Android uses AVCR v1.0 which only only allows you to control via Bluetooth (play, pause, etc) but not send track info. Other manufactures that customize Android (LG, Samsung, etc) will sometimes use v1.3 that supports track info. That's why your old phone did it.
You could install a custom Rom that has v1.3. I think cm10 does.
(3) Again, not happening on my two cars. The only time the music starts after a call is if it was playing before the call. I'm wondering if you have another music/podcast player that is taking over Bluetooth controls and causing problems. I use the stock player and Player Pro. If I don't disable the headset/BT controls in Player Pro I have control issues.
(4) I have the same issue. To get around this I cheat and push the track advance button on the radio to play the next track.
(5) This is an issue I've had on all of my previous android phones. I haven't noticed I my N4 because I never toggle off Bluetooth anymore.
(6) Not having this problem but maybe try solution in (3).

Any luck with this?
I want to buy one but couldn't find it in Sri Lanka so planning to order one via ebay & need to check if it works. Running cyanogen mod 10, heard that the bluetooth stack was updated on CM which supports most of the features since stock rom only has older stack version which can have issues!

my impression is that almost nothing involving Bluetooth functions as it should currently on the N4. I can't even get a mouse to work. what a shambles! it's not as if BT is some new technology. this all better get sorted out in 4.2.2.
If I'm not mistaken Google moved to a new Broadcom b/t stack. Yeah, good move! And I agree, b/t has been around for like what at least 10 years now? You'd think that getting track info should be a given by now. I have a crappy old LG phone running Gingerbread and it has no issues at all.
Bluetooth
When I got the N4, I connected my helmet headset to it and everything seems to work fine. My headset supports ad2p music and phone. Both connected and both worked, including play controls. Not sure about the audio quality, I didn't test it long enough After I flashed Jellybro (CM 10.1 Kang) Music connects, but phone goes on a connect/disconnect loop. Audio needs further testing, can't tell if the left side is off because of the bluetooth or not. Controls work most of the time, every now and again playback will decide to pause itself and sometimes the play command doesn't work. Haven't had a chance to flash stock CM 10.1 nightly yet either.
Play/Pause Works Inconsistently
Has anyone had this issue?
I am on stock 4.2.2, I connect with my car stereo no problems. I use to be able to just hit play/pause on my car stereo and it would just play music from Google Music. Now, sometimes when I hit the play/pause button on my stereo, it won't play. I have to manually hit play from my phone. After initially doing that, then I can hit play/pause and the control is there. I haven't had the problem since I got my phone on Nov 14th, this issue just started to happen. I notice this after installing Light Manager, but I have uninstalled it and still the issue is there. It is inconsistent, but the issue is more often than not.
Thanks in advance for your input.
Just reiterating, stock Android does not show artist/track info, it is not in the protocol, but you can skip tracks or go back to previous tracks. If it is important to you, you should root and get a custom ROM, not sure which ones for N4 has it though, been too happy with stock to root.

Hi all,
After many reviews and considerations, I upgraded from my Iphone 4 and decided to got with the S4.
Everything's been working great, except the fact that I previously used to stream all my music from my Iphone 4 (using Spotify) to my Car Audio (Volkswagen RCD510) including track info etc and it worked great. Imagine my suprise when I hooked up the S4 and realize that it's not showing the track info?! First I thought I'd done something wrong (happened once before on the Iphone too), so I looked and looked through all the settings, but everything was ok. It just kept showing the random "BT-Audio" message all the time.
When I started reading online, I come to 2 different conlusions:
1. I've seen on the Spotify forums that people are demanding the very same thing and it's on their "wishlist" for future upgrades. I can't doublecheck this as no app is transferring the info currently. On the Iphone, Youtube, Itunes, Spotify, all tranferred the track info.
2. From what I've been reading, the phone needs to support AVCRP v1.3 to fully transfer all the info, including track / artist etc. Correct? Does the S4 support v1.3 by default or does this need to be altered with a custom ROM like on some other devices?
Any ideas on how to fix this?
Thanks.
All the best,
Marthax

That made the track info appear, but the time is missing. Are you getting the time displayed?
Found this thread which solved my problem :victory:!
Metadata is now working. The only thing left is the time elapsed / remaining, but I can live with that until Spotify releases their own official fix.
Hi,
has anyone got issues with Bluetooth audio? When I connect my note 4 to my car (vw golf mk7) it just say bluetooth audio on screen while playing the track without any track info or the ability change track from the cars controls which all worked fine on my note 3.
is it missing features? I have checked all the bluetooth settings but still the same issue.
I have used samsung music player as well as my default poweramp one.
I have the X note rom on mine.
Any feed back appreciated
Thanks

has anyone got issues with Bluetooth audio? When I connect my note 4 to my car (vw golf mk7) it just say bluetooth audio on screen while playing the track without any track info or the ability change track from the cars controls which all worked fine on my note 3.
is it missing features? I have checked all the bluetooth settings but still the same issue.
I have used samsung music player as well as my default poweramp one.
I have the X note rom on mine.
Any feed back appreciated
Thanks

I'm having similar problems where the display doesn't show any information, but my controls on the steering wheel are working. The display issues are only in my Honda Pilot though, they show perfectly in my wife's Honda Fit. Fortunately I only have about 6 months left on the lease so I'm hoping a newer vehicle with newer firmware will solve the issue if no one on here knows what's happening...
I might try look at updating the vw mk7 software and see if that helps.
Has the same problem too mk7 golf pair up note 4 will not change songs at all stock rom here i have... the note 4 has alot of problems even youtube cant play anything higher then 720p
so. It's known issue must be bluetooth version 4.1

I have a mk7 golf, latest firmware updated 2 days ago, with a note 4 running 4.4.4 and I have exactly the same problem.
So frustrating, as my note 2 still works fine.
I have 63 plate Renault Captur, and iphone 5s, HTC One M7 and M8 all show correct info. Note show's nowt.
after a bit of digging around i discovered the issue is related to the note using newer version of the avrcp within bluetooth which does all the multimedia bit.
In the note its version 1.5 while all other manufacturer still use v1.3
I have read that samsung said they would revert back to avrcp version 1.3 in the next update but don't hold me to that.
Thanks
Next update, then Android Lollipop?
Also, I found this on wikipedia, it says that the 1.5 is backwards compatible. Why Note 4 not?
1.0 — Basic remote control commands (play/pause/stop, etc.)
1.3 — all of 1.0 plus metadata and media-player state support
The status of the music source (playing, stopped, etc.)
Metadata information on the track itself (artist, track name, etc.).
1.4 — all of 1.0 and 1.3 plus media browsing capabilities for multiple media players
Browsing and manipulation of multiple players
Browsing of media metadata per media player, including a "Now Playing" list
Basic search capabilities
Support for Absolute volume
1.5 — all of 1.0, 1.3 and 1.4 plus specification corrections and clarifications to absolute volume control, browsing and other features

I have this issue with my Note 4 and Alpine CDE-133BT, GS2, GS3 and GS4 works fine.
But also iPhone 6 commands don't work.
Opel Astra Sport Tourer 2014 same problem
I can confirm this problem with my Audi A3 (8V, built in 2013). My previous Note2 worked like a charm, now I can use the phone functionality, but I can't select any songs from the phone memory or use functions like Play, Pause, Skip etc.
Has anyone checked whether with Lollipop has anything changed?
Any news on this topic? Would love to listen to music from my phone in my car again
I tried a while ago with the latest 5.0.1 (ITV BOC5) and the problem persists.
I have an LG G6 US997 (unlocked) phone. The bluetooth works nearly flawlessly on my fairly low end stereo. But we bought a 2016 Honda Odyssey last year and now whenever I try to connect to bluetooth on that minivan it works for a few seconds and then my phone says something like, "Bluetooth service has stopped." Whenever I try to reconnect that just keeps happening. Is this a problem with my phone or a known issue with Honda Hands Free Link stuff? I want to say it used to work fine, but this just started a month or two ago.
Do you use Google Play Music? That's what causing the crash. Disable or uninstall the app.

Are you being serious? I do use Google Play Music. Is that actually a known issue/bug when combined with Honda?
It's a bug between the G6 and Google Play Music. I use YouTube Music for now. I'm hoping it'll be fixed by Oreo.

I've been using my US997 G6 via bluetooth with my 2017 Honda Ridgeline flawlessly for long periods during the past 3 months, so doesn't appear to be a hondalink issue.
But i don't use Google play music. I'll try to check that out tomorrow and report back.

I see, thanks for the info. I appreciate knowing where it's coming from, but that's disappointing on Google's part. I'll try removing Google Play and seeing if that helps the issue. Thanks again for the response, I never would have guessed that's the issue.
Hold on a second. This doesn't completely jive with my experience. I have a cheap aftermarket stereo in my Subaru (a Pioneer DEH-X7800BHS) and Google Play Music works just fine on my LG G6 US997 over bluetooth. So there is something about the combination with the Honda Hands Free Link system that is doing this, right?

Different devices will have different bluetooth stacks.
So it is completely possible that the low end device works fine but the Honda does not.

Well, I tried Google Play Music for about 10 minutes today in my Honda, and had no problems. Worked as nicely as Amazon Prime Music and Pocket Casts, the apps I use extensively via bluetooth in the vehicle.
Sorry if this just muddies the water.

That's awesome. Maybe Honda upgraded their Bluetooth for 2017.
I have crashing issues with my 2015 Odyssey and 2016 Acura RDX. Works great with YouTube Music, Spotify and Pandora.
I have no problem with Essential phone, S8 or Nexus 5X.
Today I uninstalled the updates for Google Play Music (it seems to be one I can't truly uninstall) and tried Spotify with the 2016 Honda Odyssey. It worked like a charm. It looks like Google Play Music + LG G6 + Honda (<2017?) is the "winning" combination.
Hi !
7 month later I face the exact same problem .. trying to listen to google play music on my G6 through my honda civic tourer bluetooth system crashes the phones bluetooth ..
Strangely enough one month ago with my LG Q8 I had absolutely no problem.
Now that's weird ..
On the plus side it sounds like Google will be phasing out Google Play Music and moving to YouTube Music instead, although it'll take a year or so to complete the transition.
Today I tried to uninstall google play music updates and reverted back to stock version that came with my phone. No problem since then .. keeping fingers crossed.
Seems related to some google update ..
Edit: it worked fine for a few days then for no reason it started to crash again. Clueless.
Tried spotify, it did not work neither. If I unselect "audio media" in the bluetooth settings, the G6 will connect and not fail, and I can use the phone over bluetooth.
I created a btsnoop_hci.log but it would need an expert to analyse this file ! I opened it with wireshark but I don't know anything about bluetooth protocol ....
