I have report on Jira the following issue.
The led in our OnePlus One doesn't lit when the phone is turned off and we try to charge it, it will affect most if not 100% OnePlus One user, the bug is reported by me using their official rom but happens almost in every rom I've tested(radio issue if you ask me).
Check it here: https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/BACON-4187
The assigned person on this actually told me to stay quite about this and I'm like why??? and to be exact and not lying about it, he said: " I'm not going to advertise the issue (and I would rather you not either)". They want to hide this for some reason.
Some might say but why charge it while it's turned off? well if you are in a hurry every juice is needed, also why not have a "proper" phone? even Chinese no-name brands have this, it's basic function.
Please spread this and make an upvote so this would be solved asap(sure it's not life threating issue but surely I'd like to have it because why not?)
Can't say I have ever turned my phone off to charge it. Nor can I be bothered to even to test it.
I don't really see the issue, if you are turning it off to quick charge then you are in a rush and not fully charging it anyway.
Won;t the LED draw power and slow down charging *jk*
Just out of interest, does the power drain on startup of the phone not offset the tiny amount of power saved that the phone would be using when in deep sleep

If you plug the cable how would you know it's actually charging? ..to verify you need to press the power button once to check the battery level in the screen. People don't mind have problematic devices fine by me they deserve this
Me on the other hand? why not fix this, even if I rarely use it ..it's not rocket science and it was working when I got the device in the first place
P.S. "Just out of interest, does the power drain on startup of the phone not offset the tiny amount of power saved that the phone would be using when in deep sleep" Lets say you have 30 minutes to spend and you need to leave ASAP, turning off the phone will charge more than having the phone turned on in "deep sleep" ..phone still uses energy and some apps do run in the backround that you probably forget to close(we're only humans)

Today in the morning i've wake up and checked my phone that was connected to a charger for last night. Power button were with a red light and a phone act like switched off.
Now, I can't turn it on and i don't now what to do exactly. I've tried a hard reset, nothing...
Does anyone had that problem???
Thanks for help.
Regards
First of all, if you want people to read your question, change the subject to something informative. Most people just skip these kind of non telling subjects.
Second, the problem. The red light shows that the battery is not charging, or that there is no battery at all. You could try to remove the battery for a while and then plug it in again. At start, when the battery voltage is below the normal 4.2V charging voltage, the red led is shown, but when the battery starts charging the led should go out. If this isn't the case, the battery could be broken.
You could also try a search on the forum, this question has been up before
And rather don't leave device to charge for whole night!
I have always left all my phones charging about 75% of the time I am at home (the other 25% is if I am tinkering with it and forget to plug it back in), so they are always 100% when I leave.
This shouldn't be a problem, although I also leave my phones turned on (standby) 24/7 as people mainly call me on my mobile rather than landline.
I noticed that the phone turns the moment the charger is connected to it (or if the USB cable is attached from a PC that is on). There doesn't seem to be a way to charge the phone with it switched off.
Do the others notice the same behaviour or is this a problem with my Omnia? Is there a way to disable this?
Yeah I have the same thing you cannot charge it while it is turned off. This is true from all the iPhones I have used aswell. It isn't a fault don't worry about it.
I don't know if it can be disabled but why would you want to out of interest?

Flightmode is your friend
Settings -> Flightmode on
That cuts all wireless connections, you won't receive calls or SMS at night.
Noticed this too, my phone also reboots when I connect it to a charger too - anyone else had that happen?
With some reading i;ve been doing, *only recently started reading up about li-ion bats* seems they might be on to gain optimal charge / long life at the right voltage.
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/charging_lithium_ion_batteries
might be why...
I'm doing more research into it. But another reason i can think of is, When it's on. Boot up time isn't there. Flight mode is. I use it rather than turning a phone off now, saves turning on the other end, i can play a game, watch a video, listen to music on the plane and charge it on a socket ready for the other end.
Yes, i noticed this issue also... as i remember, in a small book that came with my phone there is written you can charge you phone when its switched off - it will charge faster.. but theres not written how never mind, its like that, and thats the way it is...
Oh this would be bad. I charge my phone at nights too, and have it next to my bed. If the screen would be on it would be too bright to sleep with (I'm a very light sleeper). Hmm...

No, the screen won't be on
The screen turns off after a minute or you can press the standby button manually.
It's just that you can't switch off the phone completely when it is connected to a charger.

Maybe it's some kind of power management that the OS is doing therefore it needs to be on.
Battery life is great on WP7 after all.
It's confirmed by pocketnow.com
the WP7 OS doesn't allow you to charge while the phone is off
I was using my Nexus 7 til it hit about 15% and the battery alert came out. I turned it off, plugged into the charger and left it there overnight. The following night I took it out of my pouch only to realise that its very warm. I had to press on the power button for a good 10 seconds before it turned on, and when it booted up the battery had only 5% remaining, even though it was fully charged (I checked to make sure it was 100%) and was left OFF the entire day.
I encountered this before but thought I solved the issue after wiping the device and flashing CleanROM 3.0 without any custom kernels or tweaks. Looks like the issue is back, any idea what might be wrong? I hope it has nothing to do with the physical battery itself because that would be a pain. Other than this, the day to day battery life of the tablet and stability is pretty good.
BUMP
No one really? Im sure there are people who experienced this before.
My wife's phone does something very similar. Crashes, heats up and when she gets it back on the battery has taken an absolute hammering. Luckily it occurs only rarely and it appears that there are no long term consequences.

What phone is she using? Is it rooted?
Anyway I think i figured out why, i happened to notice it by chance. After full charge, i plug it out and notice the screen is actually turned on even though the device isnt! The screen is just showing a plain blank screen, but you can tell its turned on, by looking at an angle. I had to manually force a shut down by holding the power button before it goes off, then the tablet automatically switches on. It seems that it only happens when i charge the tablet while its switched off, I wonder if it has anything to do with the bootloader (Im on 4.2.1) or the charger itself.
Galaxy s2 rooted, does not appear to be rom or kernel specific as it occurs with different combinations. Anyway good news you have at least identified the problem.
Cheers Danny
Sounds like it never charged. Why turn it off to charge it? Airplane mode is just as good.

If thats the case have you tried re-calibrating the battery? Sounds like its pretty messed up, thats what i'd do.

It did charge because when i turned it back on it showed as 95%, the first 5% was drained because the screen was left "on" the whole time. I am beginning to suspect it is the case I use with the tablet. Its similar to those smart cases on the iPad where the screen auto ons/off when you flip or close the cover. I notice that even during the process of shutting the tablet down the flap still affects the screen off/on when i close it. A potential way of screwing up stuff. Next time I charge it turned off, I'll try removing the case entirely and see what happens.
Alright this time I turned the tablet off and left it to charge over night WITHOUT the casing and now it's working fine. No screen on or any heat whatsoever.

Why are you turning it off to charge? Just plug it in and be done with it. I never turn any of my devices off - the only time my S2 has been off is to reboot to flash a new ROM. Never have any charging issues.

Its just a habit i guess, and i always have the mentality that it makes a difference charging it while off
And its also good to reboot your phone once in a while, I usually do it once every 24 hours of use. Y'know, to flush out the RAM and OS so it can start anew. :highfive:
Pretty self explanatory. It was dead for a couple of days, I put it on the charger for almost the whole day, now I get no picture, but the backlight is on when I hold the power down a minute. I bought it at walmart, doubt I have the receipt, and didn't get any extended warranty. Is there a way to fix this issue?
I've got the same issue. I was playing Tupsu, when suddenly my n7 rebooted and there was no picture, just semi-strong backlight. When the tablet died, the battery was about 45-50% and I was charging it through notebook's usb port (original n7 cable). I tried to turn it off, but pressing and holding the power button only made it reboot once again (i assume it was rebooting, since the backlight was turning off and on in a second). I've tried it many times, with tablet plugged into wall/usb charger, and even with the power+volume up/down combination, it would still behave the same way. However sometimes after rebooting there was not only backlight, but also thin, mostly white, horizontal lines, appearing in random places of the screen (appearing and disappearing after like 50-100 ms). It would stop only after a reboot, and happened every 5-10 reboots.
I've decided to let the battery die to see if it changes something, and as you may guess - it didn't. It died estimately after 2 or 3 hours. Now it's all the same, except for when I plug it to the charger, there's only a very low backlight (still no picture) and it's blinking... It also makes this continuous "electricity-related" (sorry, I don't know what's the word to call it ) sound. After I press the power on, or let it charge for 1-2 minutes it boots up, and there's just a semi-strong backlight, like earlier.
It's a refurbished 8gb n7, which I got 5 days ago from the polish Asus online store. Oh, and the speakers weren't 100% fine, if it changes something. They were fine at first, but after i plugged headphones in and out, they were making cracking sounds when the volume was over 50% or something like that. Is there any hope I can fix it myself?
edit: the android ver. is 4.2.2, not rooted
the device is getting warm on the left side when being charged, or just turned on...
Have you tried pulling the battery for a couple of minutes?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
Nope, i don't want to mess with the hardware since i've bought it only few days ago... I'm afraid it may leave some traces of being opened, i'm not willing to take the risk.
You won't leave a trace pulling the battery. Just use a guitar pick or credit card and run it round, the back comes off very easily.

Yeah that is definitely worth a shot. Just pull the battery.
Ok, I did it.
Didn't change a thing >:[
btw. I didn't actually pulled off the battery, i've just disconnected it - it doesn't make a difference, does it? and another thing - the backlight was turning on immediately after connecting the battery... with these randomly popping horizontal lines.
I've got this too!

I've got this too! Pulling the battery does nothing. Last time it just fixed itself, now nothing.
Worried I'll have to take mine back.
How did that 'fixing itself' happened to you if i may ask? And how long did it last?
Your tablet has gone into sleep mode to protect the battery from further damage due to its low level of charge. What you're seeing is by design, as complete discharge of a lithium based battery is bad for it. You should never, ever, let it sit dead for a couple days. If you do discharge it to the point of shutdown again, immediately put some sort of charge on it, as waiting to long will cause the battery's protection circuit to fail completely. Best practice is to not let your device go to the point of shutdown, but rather to plug it in when not in use. Your battery will have a longer lifespan.
Plug your N7 into the charger and immediately press power and volume down to get into the bootloader. Once there, use the volume key to scroll to Power Off Device and then press the power button. After it powers off, unplug it and then plug it back in. It should then charge normally.
You seem not to have read my posts at all. When it happened, the battery was about 45-50% and it was plugged into the laptop's usb port. It suddenly rebooted and there was no more picture, just the backlight - and it lasted for like 2-3 hours (maybe even longer)! Can a completely discharged battery power the backlight for this long? After it turned off at last, i put it on charge and i've tried the power+volume method and it didn't do anything (btw. i already wrote about it)... then i let it charge for like 5-6 hours and it didn't change anything except for the fact, that the battery was evidently charged, because the backlight again lasted for few hours.

Actually, I was addressing the OP without realizing that this was a zombie thread.
To answer your question though... yes, when in sleep mode the battery can still turn on the backlight and keep it powered for some time due to the low power requirement of a black screen. Many users that have found themselves in sleep mode actually have their tablets enter into a prolonged cycle of bootloops. From the sounds of it, your device seems to have, for reasons unknown, put itself to sleep.
Anyway, I digress... I know you've stated you've tried various combinations of the power and volume keys. Have you attempted holding all three buttons for approximately 30-40 seconds while the tablet is plugged in? If it that will force it into the bootloader, you can follow the steps that I posted to get it up and running again. If not, then it seems your best available option is to seek an RMA from ASUS. Given your speaker issue, I'd send it back regardless- you shouldn't be expected to deal with battery and speaker issues after only five days.

Yep. Many times. And even longer than a minute.
Anyway, I'm going to contact their crappy support. Thanks everyone for trying to help.
Not sure if it is a bug, or if the screen-pinning is actually working to perfection. IMO it works a bit too well for comfort.
Was playing the most recent riptide game, and to do tricks I usually ended up hitting the hardware touch keys, so I turned on screen-pinning to counter that. Well, apparently you don't receive anything from the system (battery low warning etc...) while it is on, AND the system cannot overrule it. Meaning even if the battery goes to 0%, it won't shutdown/poweroff.
The phone literally turned off in a snap, screen flashed kinda weird colours and puff! Off!
When I tried turning it on, the usual multi-lingual red writing saying battery is low appeared and disappeared in an instant, instead of the usual 1-2 seconds being displayed.
I plugged the Dash charger and the red writing appeared instead of the charging symbol. It took like 3-4 minutes charging before the phone "turned on" to display that lightning/thunder image that informs you it is charging. I think dash charging only activated at that point.
Haven't turned it back on yet. Gonna take advantage of this and charge till 100% for the calibration X_X
I think that the red writing when plugging in your charger actually should be a charging message which however is the same like the low power images (there are two images, one called lowpower, one called charging, both contain the same data)
Running the battery down to completely zero can brick your phone. The phone needs a very slight charge to recharge. The system shuts it down very slightly early because of this. You often see people bricking their phone because they completely discharge in recovery.

yes, discharging completly your battery wont have a positive effect for you - its the other way round.
but if you think you will get a "recalibration" thing or something.. then go ahead and have fun with your placebo effect
