Hello guys
I have two generic Android TV boxes and two PCs with XBMC.
I got my FireTV yesterday, and since it was unrootable, I updated it.
MOST of the video addons like Genesis, Icefilms, Navi-X do not work at all or are extremely limited.
Genesis, for example, when you click on Genre you get nothing. Click on Box office, you get nothing, Popular... nothing. Icefilms gets a script error.
ALL of those things are working fine on ALL of the other devices in my home. I did side-by-side tests and am not running any proxy servers on xbmc or home network, so it seems clear that Amazon has managed to censor certain streaming sites...
It seems clear to me that the new FireTV, released in the UK Oct 17th 2014 is NOT a viable XBMC option if that is what you want to use xbmc for.
Bad news for many, I know.
This is NOT good news at all. In fact this is a disaster for me who was just about to spent the afternoon installing XBMC on two new FTVs for family that arrived yesterday.
How Amazon have managed to do this I have no idea, my USA FTVs have no such censorship. Now it could be the case that Amazon UK have adhered to UK laws, banning certain websites at the firmware level (such as primewire.ag). If these restrictions don't exist in the USA then the USA FTVs will always be ok but the UK FTVs will no doubt need a custom firmware to circumvent these restrictions.

nope, as i said, there are 4 other boxes in the house that run Genesis addon perfectly... FireTV does not.
Are you in the UK? The UK has facist ISP rules... and my guess is Amazon is taking advantage and making it a LOT harder for anyone in the UK

Please post back with exact FTV software version and also the exact XBMC version you have installed, for example:
FTV: 51.1.4.0_user_514006420
XBMC: SPMC 13.2
Thanks.

sometimes fresh xbmc installs take a while to populate and update the addons , i've seen that also here and there with new installs on all platforms, not just the ftv.
Here is a Youtube clip showing the problem, using the same network as my PC
http://youtu.be/PCf73VV9lJ4?list=UUmYOTGN1vwcBWIkNu9VTooQ
Something has come up... though I can watch Prime Video without any problem, plays very well... when I go to HOME, it cannot get to "home" and says "We are currently unable to contact our servers Try Again" - but I dont see how this affects XBMC, particularly when Prime video works fine.
Box going back to Amazon... I have had enough of this.

I use copper cladding to hold the shaped charges on my piracy plugin loaded fireTV, it works a treat as a Faraday Cage too. I ground it to the delay timer on the thermobaric ignition system in the basement - if the explosives are defused when I'm not nearby with the radio suppression unit, the house goes all Enemy of the State.
I find that the Reynolds Foil makes an excellent tricorner hat to wear when posting. I fold out a left and right antenna, kind of like cyclists' rearview mirrors, to alert me to movement in Mum's basement. my office.
Just did first install on one of my new UK FTVs.
XBMC works fine - no censorship no blockages, nothing different from my US FTV at all.
All add-ons working as expected.

and are you uk based?
Your youtube video is not proof of censorship. That's silly. Amazon isn't censoring XBMC.
Turn on debugging, repeat the process, and take a look at your log file, I bet you'll find some clues. There's lots of things that could cause a plugin movie list to populate on one XBMC install but not another.
I've got rid of the fire TV box... so am leaving this thread. Cheers.
yes, berkshire. and it's probably to do with the build of xbmc you're using. I'm using official 13.2 from xbmc.org.
Im having the same issues on my uk firetv, latest stable build of xbmc runs great, all addons fail with script errors, tried spmc, and some of the nightlies, still problems remain...xbmc on chinese box runs without issues, head scratcher!
Im having exactly the same problem here. Constant script errors or apps displaying no content, tvmc and various xbmc, spmc builds tried and all have the same result.
Sussed what my problem was...having all the described issues in this thread with my uk fire tv...im with BT, on a homehub 4...disabling smart setup in advanced settings cured it for me...so it looks like its bugger all to do with Amazon and more an isp/hardware problem...hope this helps

Shame, a user has fixed this for me and its working great now.
So I got a Nexus Player the other day, but when I plugged it in, I get a blank screen although occasionally I'll see a flash of an image from the device for less than a second.
TV knows that there's a signal, it displays a PCM, 16:9 and 1080p logos when player is powered up, or No Signal when it's powered down
Player works fine when I plugged it into a monitor that I had in another room, and I've tried 3 different HDMI cables (primary cable being an Amazon High Speed HDMI). When I had it installed on the monitor I downloaded the 5.0 upgrade, but that didn't help.
Updated TV software too, no joy.
Called Google, they said call LG. Called LG, they said it's not them.
Google talked about escalating to someone higher than the help desk, but I suspect that's stalled at least until next week. They're also offering to replace the player now too, but I'm not hopeful and increasingly convinced that there's something basically incompatible between this TV (LG 65LB6300) and the Nexus Player. If I had to describe it, it looks like when you'd set your monitor to an invalid resolution / refersh rate back in the CRT days... you might get an image for a second, but then the screen goes blank.
Any thoughts on other options that I might try or should I abandon hope and ask for a refund?
Could be a wonky hdmi cable or connection. If you have other devices via hdmi and they're working, try swapping one of those known good cables and see if it fixes it.

I've tried 3 different cables and swapping with my blueray player (blue worked fine on both ports with any of the 3 cables.
Google's troubleshooting steps include:
Step 5: Try the Nexus Player on a different TV.
If the Nexus Player works with another TV, there may be a compatibility issue between the Nexus Player and the original TV. Contact the manufacturer for additional guidance.
Feels like I've got that compatibility issues and neither party knows what's up.
I'm having the same issue with my LG 55EC9300. The Nexus Player won't display anything on the TV screen (which just remains black). I've tried all the troubleshooting steps available on the Google support pages, including factory resetting the Nexus Player, and nothing has worked.
The TV does seem to recognize that a Nexus Player is attached because it says "Nexus Player" in the TV's input menu when it's connected via HDMI.
Please let me know what you hear.
I just ordered a NP, I got a LG 50LB5900 will test it out when it arrives, luckily I have two options a smart bluray with HDMI in, I hope this doesn't span all new LG units. This needs to get escalated properly and hopefully google will contact LG if it is their issue. I'd call google and escalate it and use this thread as a reference.
defconoi, I'll be anxious to hear your results. I tried pass-thru on my samsung stereo/dvd player. It picked up the audio just fine but the video still had the same problem. If I understand correctly, your LB5900 isn't SmartTV/WebOS, so hopefully you'll be unaffected.
Still doing email dialog with Google, if they can't offer something solid this week I may be asking for a refund on this thing.
I have same issue on an LB6300.
I've tried the Nexus player on a couple other TVs in the house and can confirm it works fine on them, but only a blank screen on the LB6300. I've tried the same troubleshooting steps, but no luck. Very disappointing, this was the TV I wanted to run the Nexus on.
I have that same problem on 42LB671V
black screen on 3 different hdmi cable
on the old tv Mirai it works ok.

My Samsung smart Blu-ray player has a HDMI input that the nexus player works with, it also supports more audio codecs than my LG TV, for now I got it connected via that until my optical cables come in. As a fix for this issue you guys could probably use a HDMI converter box or adapter, im not quite sure which one would work, but I'd do some googling. The Nexus player is awesome, if it didnt work on my TV i'd find a cheap solution.

I'm trying to think thru options here... what I'm looking for is to a device that can intercept the HDMI signal, decode it, and then re-encode it to HDMI again (HDMI is the only vialable input option on my TV)... Maybe 2 boxes, [hdmi -> composite] -> [composite -> hdmi]
Maybe I just need to figure out a way to access the composite input on my tv - it's obstructed by the mounting brackets.
Sympathies to you xgrey, but I'm glad to hear that more than one model is affected...
My 55LG just arrived today; out of the box my nexus player worked with it fine. I noticed at times i was getting some audio desyncing caused by the tv of all things but turning the tv off and on fixed it. Well I applied 2 updates and now I'm getting the same issue. This has to be sdome sort of LG or webos trying to block google. My chromecast is still showing up fine.

Anybody else having any luck?
Nexus player wont play on lg web os 70lb6560-ta
I have the same problem with my LG 70LB6560-TA. The Nexus Player plays on all other (3) TV's I have except the 70LB6560-TA(WEB OS). This has exactly the same problem that toturi writes where the screen flashes on for a second then goes off for a minute. I have tried several new cables and all the HDMI ports on the TV with no success. I have called LG but I get all the usual noob "Please check" questions.
Partial Success
Last Friday I picked up an HDMI->Composite adapter, I'm calling this a partial solution.
Good news it that it works, bad news is that I'm only getting 720p now rather than 1080. This is fine for things like Castle of Illusion, but I'm not sure I'm that excited for movies. (I've got to make the call this week on returning the whole thing and I'm really on the fence).
Also, WTF was LG thinking with the placement of the Power, Digital Audio, Ethernet, and Composite ports all positioned perpendicular to the screen and INSIDE THE FREAKING VESA MOUNTS??!?... Hacking thru the steel VESA mount to get at my Composite port wasn't real cool.
If anyone happens to see this thread before you've taken the plunge, I'd say skip the LG. Not sure if Samsung or Sony are better, but LG seems to be doing a lot a bone-headed things lately ...that reminds me that I need to write a rant about my LG refrigerator too.
Anyway, using the composite solution is one route that you may consider, but not a perfect solution. Hopefully Google can still out-smart whatever it is that LG did to break HDMI (can we get them de-certified for the right to label their TVs HDMI over this?!)

I'm trying to build a list, can you share your model number? Here's what I've captured so far:
70LB6560-TA
55LB7200

55EC9300

There's likely a common thread here of WebOS-TVs or if it wasn't deliberate, then a chipset that's just bad (and who knows what other devices might be impacted!)

Attention @rbox
Could you please check if its possible also to set sideloaded apps as favorite? THX in advance.
Still using Anroid 4.2.2 so the update is a major fail. Any updates for the Fire TV that do not run Android 4.4+ will all be failures. Sure they may fix bugs or simplify the default launcher, but til they upgrade to at least Android 4.4 aall updates wil be worthless. They can add all the featurs to the Fire TV that they want, but it will never be as good as it could be unless they ugrade to a newer version of Android. Compatibiity issues are nonsense this day in ag with Android and I am hving several comptibility issues with the Fire TV all because Amazon refuses to upgrade the Fire TV t at lest Android 4.4. A month ago when the news of fire OS 5.0 came out I predicted that the Fire TV would not be running it in ten months and I hve nine months left to prove everone wrong that said I was wrong. Wait and see, nine months from now the Fire tablets and the Fire Phone will be running FireOS 5.0, but the Fire TV will be running either 4.2.2, 4.3 or if a miracle happens it might be running Android 4.4. I love the Fire TV and I am not jumping ship, but the Fire TV can not do what it should be doing if Amazon is not going to upgrade it to Android 4.4 I do not care about root or mods, but I do care about compatibilty issues, and more and more things are becoming incompatible with Android 4.2.2 and 4.3. Come on amazon, step it up and give us what we should've already had six months ago.
Nice update! Really looking forward to the shopping feature. Wonder if this feature will go live on July 15th with "Prime day"?
Looking forward to a flashable version of this.

No, only those downloaded from their App Store can be set as favorite.
You go into either "Games" or "Apps" to pick which ones you want to favorite, which brings them to the front of the Recent list in "Home" or the other mentioned sections.
Another change is they've added in the storage bar in Applications > Manage Installed Apps, now sit at the bottom of the screen.

Seems a new Fire TV Stick may be on the way running Lollipop 5.1 - http://liliputing.com/2015/07/amazons-next-gen-fire-tv-stick-may-be-coming-soon.html
This one will likely be left in the dark forever run on 4.2.2
Well, here is something...
For the longest time, when I hooked my Fire TV Box via Optical Audio to my Pioneer Elite VSX-21 (circa 1999-2000), SPMC/Kodi set for pass through did give me Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS (and show icons for each speaker). However, with the box set for Dolby Digital over Optical when playing movies from Amazon Instant, Netflix and Plex my Pioneer would always display only Dolby ProLogic (no speaker icons, indicating 2ch audio).
It looks like the v51.1.6.0 fixed that.
Today, playing a movie via Amazon Instant, I noticed Dolby Digital led on the receiver along with icons for each speaker.. Same with Netflix.
Plex however gives me no audio when playing movies from my server, but did give me stereo audio when playing a TV show via CBS channel in Plex.

Seems like just wild guess, and what spoils it is that there would be zero reason to put and accelerometor in an Android stick, which tells me that its not a new fire TV stick. I am sure there will be a new Fire TV stick at some point, but the page you gave the link to is 100% not a new Fire TV stick. You shold never link people to pages with unconfirmed info.
First up, it features WiFi and Bluetooth, but no GPS, compass, accelerometer, light sensor, camera, or SIM card. You’d expect most phones, tablets or other Android devices to have at least a few of those things.

The specs fit the billing for many devices. Who knows it could be a new type of device, or it could be a tablet. Til there is proof the articles are just people making wild guesses. Like I said, go back and look at all of Amazons tablets and yo will be amazed at the features some of them do not have that almost every tablet mae by other companies do. They even took the gamble of leaving cameras out the first Fire HD tablet. Amazon does strange things with their devices. They have left rear cameras of some of their tablets and said their study shows that people do not use rear cameras on their tablets then released the next tablet with a rear camera. they have left out HDMI ports saying people with tablets barely use them then for some reason released other tabets with HDMI ports. I would not rule out that the device is a tablet at all. Its very likely that it could be a budget tablet. Their newer tablets have been getting more expensive compared to their older ones so it could be a cheap tablet.

And what would these sonsors be good for on an mediaplayer device?
GPS? I know where my TV is.
Compass? My TV doesn't change its direction so often.
Accelerometer? I hope it never falls off the wall.
Light Sensor? For a divice without display?
Camera? Would be nice for skype but better use an external one.
SIM card?
So where is the point?
Hmmmm and off topic anyway .. Sorry for that.

Yes, proof that this is likely the next generation FireTV or Stick, and not another phone or tablet from Amazon.
i've been unable to 'adb connect' to my unrooted fire tv box since around the time it received the latest update. i've rebooted several times - computer and fire tv. no luck. can anyone else confirm or deny this with their box? maybe something funky going on with my routers...
Probably you need to re-enable the ADB debugging within the FireTV System > Developer Options.

thanks, but i already checked that. i even tried turning it off, restarting, turning it on, restarting again. still can't adb connect to my box.
Probably the IP changed. Had this one time that my router assigned another IP than the regulary IP to the AFTV.
again, thanks for trying. firetv has a static IP. it has not changed. my router shows that the firetv is connected with the IP it is supposed to have. everything on my firetv works. i can't ping the firetv from my computer but maybe that is normal. i never tried before when adb connect was working. i tried doing a port scan from computer using nmap but it doesn't see the firetv at all. i feel like i'm losing my mind.
---------- Post added at 11:45 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:37 AM ----------
well, i've got adb connect working again. i told firetv to forget the network then i re-added it. this time i didn't specify IP/subnet/etc. i let it get it all from DHCP. now adb connect works. weird.
Does anyone know a way for me to mirror my screen of this phone without WiFi?
The phone apparently does not support HDMI over USB-C and I need to find a way to mirror my screen via HDMI.
My car has an HDMI input to the head unit and it was just recently found to have a bypass in it so that the HDMI will work while driving. I do not want to watch videos while driving but I do want Google maps/waze to be shown on my head unit screen as the car's standard navi is terrible.
I have tried using Chromecast but the Chromecast does not work unless the car is connected to WiFi. Using my phone as a hotspot was a workaround up until an update to the Chromecast was said to cause it to crash. So this option is out.
What I would like to do ideally is buy an HDMI miracast dongle to mirror the screen as it uses WiFi direct. If I go into settings>WiFi>menu>advanced I see the WiFi direct menu but it looks incomplete.
I did some searching and saw that there was a way to edit the build.prop on the nexus 6 to allow for miracast.
Does anyone know if this is possible with the 6p and do you think it would be a viable option?
I have asked the question about the build.prop modification, but have not got any response
I can use TCL_nscreen Pro, but I would like a stock option
It is exactly the same for the Nexus 6 as it was for the 6. There are a couple of threads in here already on it, but essentially it is the build.prop modification and then after a reboot, set the allow wifi setting in the setting of the cast screen.
persist.debug.wfd.enable=1
Chromecast can be made to work again by downgrading to the previous version and then switching off auto update.
You can cast your screen while using the hotspot feature. You have to cast using the cast button in the quick settings. I had to use a tablet to configure the chromecast the first time so it knows what wifi network to use (Which is the hotspot)
Has anyone successfully got this working? I have modified my build.prop without success. Screen mirroring to my Fire stick is essential to me.
Yes, I am using Miracast. As well as modifying the file, have you rebooted and in the cast screen gone into options and selected the wireless option?

It's working now. Thanks
Good to hear
What do you need to add/edit on your build.prop to use Miracast? Just add "persist.debug.wfd.enable=1" ?

Yes. I just added it to the last line.
Will miricast work through apps like YouTube or play movies? Or have they disabled it system wide?

Does it screw up use of Chromecast like the poster above implied?

System wide, only casting through Chromecast will work by default.

Chromecast still worked for me. I just switched to Chroma, which has it built in. Pure Nexus did not.

The mic problems I see reported in the thread make me a bit nervous, but it looks like a great ROM otherwise.

Hey guys. I am interested in casting from 6P. I have looked into casting using Chromecast and although i have all the equipment to set up today, I am a bit concerned about the casting dropping out if I were to lose data momentarily (BIG CONCERN). As such, before I install chromecast in my car (using with appradio) only to have to rip it out later, I would like to explore miracast. Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced miracast device I can purchase (say from amazon or wherever) to cast my 6P? I understand its easier to set up and does not require data to mirror.
Thanks

You need a second phone in order to use Chromecast unless you use an older version that lets you trick it into streaming from the same phone that is the WiFI hotspot. Google didn't not include Miracast by default so you need to enable it in the build.prop file. The Microsoft Miracast dongle works fine for me and has been rated pretty well. Regardless, you don't need a data connection for either if you are not streaming something from the internet, so I don't know what you're expecting to be different between the two options.

Wait. I thought that was the main reason why people are opting for using miracast devices and not chromecast. I have the original chromecast (not the newer ones). But I was under the impression that if you lose your data connection (from carrier), your wifi hotspot goes down, and your phone is no longer connected to the chromecast. I am fine not being able to stream content from the internet, as long as my phone is still mirroring to chromecast and is visible on what I have connected chromecast to. I have tons of content on my device that I can cast, I just need to be able to mirror if my data connection on the 6P goes out. Please confirm because this changes everything. Sounds like if I have the original chromecast there is not much difference between it an miracast devices.

I am talking about the Chromecast application that needs to be an old version, not the device. Otherwise, you need a second phone. I don't know if the mobile hotspot dies when you lose 4G even if you aren't using Internet directly, sorry. I didn't think it would, but I've never had the experience to be able to answer affirmatively. Miracast would be your choice if that is what happens, but again you need to edit the build.prop for the Nexus 6P to make it work with Miracast. Dimming the screen is also going to be an issue (the device is AMOLED so screen off programs will not work) in order to maintain a charge, so you should look into that before purchase as well.
I received the Fire TV 3 yesterday and though I'd share a few observations about the gadget.
1. I'm in a rural area and internet here is 'almost' not existent at home. We do have an account and receive about 2-3 Mbs speed. I offer this as the Fire TV 3 works only by wi-fi and has no ethernet plug-in. Even with my low speed, I could run the Fire TV 3 alright, but of course streaming is strained. We hope to have the internet speed issue resolved in a month or so.
2. No SD port. Had about 4.89 Gigs free of 5.34, or so before putting my apps on. Currently 3.53 still avail.
3. You can use the Android app, "Apps to FireTV" which works just fine. In fact for me the transfers/installs are much quicker than on my Fire TV 2. When using the app for 'installing', the app does say at the end that the transferred file was successfully uploaded to the Fire TV 3, but the install 'failed', even though every app did end up installing just fine, it just took a few seconds longer than the app transfer allowed for with the notice.
4. AppStarter works just fine for me.
5. Cetusplay and MouseToggle 1.06, 1.07, 1.08 (most recent version) do not work for me. Cetusplay loses the mouse cursor near the buttons I need to activate, and with MouseToggle, the mouse size/resolution has changed so the mouse is much smaller and does not activate what it rests over. At this point in time, both useless. I suspect that the background screen resolution of Fire TV 3 has changed and that may be the reason the Mouse Toggle may be smaller and 'off'.
6. Other apps installed, YouTube, Netflix, PIA, etc work just fine. Netflix HDR movies do view in HDR and I get the HDR 'notice' on my LG OLED tv screen.
7. I wish I could find a good internet browser that would work with the Fire TV 3 remote, and a mouse toggle that works with this new Fire TV 3 OS, and web browsers, as well.
8. SET TV works, but as the download speed is slow, I do get lagging. SET TV is about $20 a month subscription for 3 or 4 devices, 300+ channels, movie channels, CNN, HBO, et al. Very worth the monthly fee. Can't wait to have a reasonable internet connection speed soon... so I hope.
The Fire TV 3 is about as quick as the Fire TV 2 in terms of screen and page freshening. I did mention that Apps to Fire TV installs and uploads seem much quicker. The Fire TV 3, as you know, is much smaller and lighter, and hangs off the HDMI port on the TV. Velcro will work for that. Other than the new HDR output option, I can not say I am 'excited' about the Fire TV 3 yet, and whether to keep it or put my Fire TV 2 back up and wait for a Fire TV 3+, which has ethernet and an SD port.
That's about what I've come up with so far.

There is indeed an ethernet adapter made for this device sold directly by Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B074...g_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=DNC38R95V66GWW829SZN
I suppose you could also use OTG ethernet since it supports OTG
I also just got my FireTV3 2 days ago. So far it's been freezing up more often than my FireTV2. I'm not sure if it's because of the WiFi connection (tried both 2.4 & 5Ghz), but I was able to stream a 4K movie (Spectre) for 2 hours without any hiccups last night. I'm on FiOS 75/75 internet and my router is 15ft away.
I did order the Ethernet Adapter but haven't tried it yet. I wanted to see if WiFi would be good enough. I have my FireTV2 setup in my living-room on a wired LAN connection. This new FireTV3 is in my bedroom replacing my Gen1 FireTV stick. I might go ahead and connect the wired LAN this weekend if I find some free time.
The biggest hiccup I've come across was the Apps & Games section wouldn't load. I found a fix online = clear the cache for the Amazon App Store app.
Just like OP, Mouse Toggle app doesn't work at all with FireTV3. I've loaded it 3 times through Apps2Fire and through the new in app interface. It's just stuck on 'starting'.
PIA works just fine, but it's really stretched out. Unlike on my FireTV2 it shows up with black bars on the side.
Is there a big OS difference between FTV2 ad FTV3?

Re: Mouse Toggle, after the install and setup, mine also said ... starting. I then went into System Setup, Developer Options and turned adb off and waited a few seconds, and then back on. Then I rebooted and the Mouse Toggle would come up with the double press of the play/pause button. It's resolution and hotspot are off enough on many screens/apps, that it's about useless for me.
For example, I can run the mouse down to the bottom of the screen, which would normally scroll down with a real mouse, or down press on the button, and the mouse disappears...
but is actually located on the page, still... but over some item you can not see/get to. It will select the app or place you can't see, so it's a toss up what you are activating at that point.
My PIA redresses itself upon loading and works as on my FireTV2, lower resolution, but it does work.
I'm not sure of the differences with the change of OS, other than HDR and I suspect static screen resolution, as Mouse Toggle is off, and Cetusplay, as well.
XDA Labs app works pretty good, as long as you have a bluetooth keyboard and mouse connected.

I got my new FTV3 box and it remains in the box. It does support OTG per AFTNews.
http://www.aftvnews.com/amazon-fire-tv-3-supports-usb-peripherals-via-otg-cable-including-usb-drives-keyboards-mice-flirc-ethernet-hubs-etc/
They have some suggestions. I ordered a powered OTG cable and an USB A Ethernet dongle. I will be sending the AFTV Ethernet adapter back. With the OTG I will be able to plug in my existing powered USB hub that supports my Flirc, USB stick, KB dongle, and cheaper USB Ethernet dongle. I use a HDMI switching AV receiver so I am not happy with no HDMI input. I will get around that with an HDMI coupler.
That is if I get 3 out of the box. All the hoops to jump through is a downer. Reading that this thing will flood your screen with marketing crap makes me more leery. I may send it back and get a Shield. The only plus I see is the price. I got the Dot for $10 more offer. I can try it and junk it if it is annoying.

The new Fire TV "pendent" (aka/codename Needle) is officially being called the 3rd generation Fire TV. Codename Stark is an unreleased Fire TV "cube" that I leaked last month. No idea what Amazon will end up officially calling that device.

Could someone from uk with FTV3 pull itv hub, my5 and all4 for me please? hoping they were updated for later versions of android
As I haven't found anything yet, I know its brand new, this 3rd Gen FTV is my first, I assume someone is working on root access, or do older routes work, if anyone knows. TIA.
Well, I packed up my Fire TV 3 today and have a pickup/return to Amazon scheduled for tomorrow.
Overall the Fire TV 3 worked ok. It was quick 'enough', etc, but after gaging against Fire TV 2, other than HDR, I don't feel there were benefits sufficient to change from the Fire TV 2. Given our poor internet here, just getting by with 1-3 Mbs, currently, I need the ethernet. I also did not like the SD slot being removed from the Fire TV 3.
Overall, other than the HDR addition, the Fire TV 3 seems a step down from the Fire TV 2. It is a little slower than the Fire TV 2 in testing, but not notably by 'experience' of daily use.
I have an Nvidia Shield coming this week, and will see how that compares.

How? There's a whole thread on it in this forum and the conclusion is the banner can't be disabled on the FTV1/2 with current software. Is the FTV3 software different in that?
I'm back to my Fire TV 3, after having the Nvidia Shield Pro for about a week. The first one arrived, started updating, got to about 15% download, went black, and could not be hard reset. Returned.
Got a replacement Shield and have been messing about with that for the last 4-5 days, along with hours with Amazon support and Nvidia support. In the end it turns out that the Shield can not do Dolby or HDR in some standard format, so Netflix 4K HDR & Dolby out. That's how I get the ending, at any rate. Remote is abysmal. That Shield is going back.
Now back to the Fire TV 3. Simply, easy to use, and the remote is effective, over all.
