Hi!
First of all, yes I've browsed and tried the different solutions in the forum but none of them worked for me.
My Nexus 4 fell from my car (a long story) and the screen is completely destroyed, and yes I mean DESTROYED. The phone works cause the screen lights up and some colours still work, but I can't see anything, and the touchscreen of course does not work.
Problem is: I had a lock pattern so I can't access the data in my computer. I've tried Droidbrowser and the unified Android Toolkit, the last one always gets stuck on "waiting for adb mode" or something like that. I'm pretty sure I had USB debugging activated and all that, but except that, phone is factory, no root, no ROM, no unlocked bootloader.
I've been struggling with this for a while now, would appreciate some help!
Thanks in advance

With out an unlocked bootloader or a custom recovery I'm afraid you're sol. Otherwise you'd need to boot into the os which you can't do with a lock pattern to use adb.

I got my N7 Last week. My sister Locked it by too many pattern attempts. Now it asking to enter my gmail username and password.. I entered it bt not worked. I googled and find for solutions. I dint get a working solution.
Then i tried to Hard Reset the device. I followed all instructions given by google. But it freezes while Going through Recovery mode. I waited about Hours for a response. after that I tried Hard Reset by connecting USB Cable to PC. It Freezes at the menu itself.
Then I Installed SDK (4.1), ADB, FASTBOOT and Drivers from Nexus 7 toolkit by XDA.. still not working..
please Help Me to Solve this.
My device is UNROOTED.
Wi-Fi is OFF!
USB DEBUGGING is OFF!
I cant acces non of above because its locked.. please please help!
Finally got it!
When I Installed the drivers and Rebooted my device the Hard reset Worked Finely.
Ensure that..
1. USB Cable plugged in or not.
2. Necessary drivers installed or not.
That is funny because that's exactly what happened when I had my og droid. Except I was the one who locked myself out of my phone. Good job on getting this resolved.

Google Nexus 7 Tab unlock
Hi ,
Tried so But failed to unlock my tab..its so painfull and very sad to state that google has no support..Can you help me out with step by step process to unloack my nexus 7 tab from " too many patterns tried "
thx
Sounds like Google should have put some more thought in the feature. Give the users a way to lock themselves out - and they will.
At least the "too many attempts" screen should tell the user to log in with the Google ID and password the device was registered with.
Can't help but think... Stolen.
Geesh, isit so hard Tod remember Gmail info so you can back in?

Can't help but think - Dang - little sister got my Nexus again...
I changed a cracked screen on a Nexus 4. I have done this before with no problems. It is not rooted and locked to a carrier. Now it is stuck in bootloop.
Now the real problem is that even though the phone will take a charge, when I connect it to a PC it the PV doesnt see the phone and it doesn't show up in file folders or in Nexus Toolkit.
So I cannot access ADB either since the PC doesn't see the device and same with Nexus Toolkit.
I can boot into recovery mode but it goes to Android man on back with red flag and "No Command Found" message.
I have spent a week on this. Who out there knows what the hell I can do. I have thought about swapping out the charger port to see if thats why the pc isnt seeing the phone...I am stumped. Help would be very appreciated folks.
Thanks

What happened to this? I have the same damn issue. Although I managed to get fastboot and adb functionality with great difficulty. But the device doesn't seem to be able to boot into anything. I've tried every single thing software by the book, and by the forums too. I suspect it might be hardware.
Any luck?
Hi guys,
I recently dropped my Nexus 4 on the floor today and the screen cracked. As a result, the screen is completely unresponsive now but I am able to see its display when I press the power button. Could you guys help me/point me in the right direction regarding how to get the data I have on the phone (music, photos etc.) please.
My Nexus is unrooted/stock version. I tried connected it to my laptop via USB, but all it does it charge. I think I might have the USB debugging option enabled (as I remember enabling it before sometime ago). I'm running the latest firmware (5.0.1 I believe). Also the bootloader is locked.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
EDIT: I should note that I have a Password (PIN) for the lock screen.
I installed android sdk and tried to enter commands, but it didn't work. When I typed in 'adb devices', no serial came up (I checked sdk manager for the google usb driver, and it says it's installed). Also, when I tried typing in anything i.e. 'adb shell' it said error no devices found. I was attempting to follow a guide to set up adb for any other steps required to get my data from the internal storage. Bear in mind, I don't have much knowledge on these tools, all I'm doing is following any guides. Please can you help me how to get my photos or the contents of the sdcard.
The pin is not letting you boot into the os and that's why adb isn't working. Can you get into the bootloader? If so boot into twrp then try adb
fastboot boot twrp.img. Where twrp.img is the full file name.

Thanks for responding. I can enter the bootloader (if that's the Volume Down + power button menu). Quick google search shows that twrp is for customer recovery. Bear in mind that I haven't unlocked the bootloader or installed anything like recoveries before (it is basically a stock N4). Would I need to install it? If so, please could you direct me to a tutorial or guide me step-by-step on what to do as I don't have too many ideas on what to do to get the data from the phone.
Just to clarify: My N4 is completely stock, Bootloader is locked (says 'LOCK STATE - locked' in bootloader menu) and it is unrooted. I remember having the USB debugging option enabled the last time I was in the dev menu on the phone.

We'll you've got a problem. You'll have to unlock the bootloader to run fastboot commands and that'll completely wipe your device. And with the pin and an unresponsive screen you can't get into the os. There really isn't anything you're going to be able to do to save your files. Sorry about that.
Edit, just one more thought, are you still on 4.4.4? If so there may be a hope. Shoot, you'll need to boot into the os though. So my idea isn't going to work.

Ah that was what I feared ... I'm running the latest firmware (5.0.1). I wouldn't really care about the phone if it weren't for a few images (should have had it backed up!).
Now I need to decide whether or not to change the screen etc. for £35 or just look in the market for a new phone. If I did buy a new screen/digitiser/frame thing, would these be suitable (where I won't need to use heat guns or glue and stuff)?
ebay (dot) co.uk/itm/LCD-Screen-Display-Touch-Digitizer-for-LG-E960-Google-Nexus-4-Frame-Replacement-/331224787829?pt=UK_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item4d1e892b75

Also, if I did change it using the above, would dissembling the phone and reassembling it cause my data to be lost?
Thank you for your help
Edit: I managed to save about 80 photos which were probably in the default images folder in the SD card using AndroidLost. I'm guessing the other images which were in other folders i.e. WhatsApp Images etc. aren't recoverable using the site
HI XDA!
So I broke my screen, NO DISPLAY, NO TOUCHSCREEN.
But phone turns on, goes to TWRP all great and stuff.
I've been trying to "Unlock" the Pattern unlock to get into the phone. But sadly I have a few hurdles:
1. Cannot run ADB when the phone is ON, (Only works in Recovery)
2. I have USB Debugging OFF. I wish it was on, I'd easily have this working then : https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2786395
Can anyone guide me a way how to properly work USB Debugging? I'm planning on upgrading my phone anyway so I'd like the important data that I had for years.
Thanks!!!
Found a lead. Maybe I'm on to a fix: Post #5 at https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2335799
However I have 2 issues:
1. after entering "su" it says "su : not found"
2. Also, upon entering the command for Mount I get "mount: can't find /system in /proc/mounts" (Most probably due to the SU not being found)
Please help!
Thanks

While in TWRP you have MTP automatically. You can see your entire Android file system on your PC and transfer any files you need off. All you need to do is boot into TWRP. You don't even need to navigate anywhere, just load TWRP and it WORKS. If it doesn't then you have another problem.

I appreciate the quick response!
Whilst in TWRP MTP Mode. I can very well view all the files etc, but when i transfer them (e.g if i tranfer Photos) it tranfers like 2-3 photos and then stops the rest saying "Device Unresponsive" or something like that.

I can appreciate you trying to squeeze every last bit of data from your phone, but If you don't have a stable Recovery environment you can't expect MTP or ADB to work properly? Adding heat to the back of the phone with a heat gun (or blow dryer) may help, but your phone is already finished. Good luck! :good:

Hmmm. I don't think the Recovery's got to do with this issue. I'll try changing the Laptop. I know its still alive! (Btw i still don't understand the concept of the heatgun)

Well of course start there if you had not already ruled out the basics by changing PC/cables ! If you were using USB-C to USB-C, try using a USB-A to USB-C. If Recovery mode is still erratic after ruling those things out, the problem could be hardware related. The phone could start bootlooping during data transfer and you don't realize it due to the dead screen. The heat gun has been used by people who have the BLOD to force the phone into low power mode (limp mode) so it is only running on 4 cores.
Hello!
THink I have bricked my phone, but just checking before I go through what I suppose is a long process with oneplus.
Looking for any help. I had a working device - unlocked bootloader and installed TWRP and magisk using MauronofrioTool. ok - however, I found out I couldn't use a fingerprint security option on that would have been anoying. So... Long story short. I used MauronofrioTool to relock bootloader. Oops - so that didn't work. THen found out I couldn't do anything except stare at g.co/ADH message on my screen. Couldn
't get to fastboot or TWP. ANyway, so I managed to up and down volume and enter into TWRP. Was still connecting to the tool, so I downloaded factory Zips and tried to install via tool after unlocking - Seemed to be working ... but it stopped mid way through a process and hasbn't come back! NOthing at all. I wonder if I could have triggered an OEM thing? ANyway - literally nothing no buttons work no screen action. I see a QUSB_BULK_CID:etc number when connecting the phone, but that is it. No fast boot or any other actions available.
PLease, pretty devastating, Anyone know if I can do anything?
I'm no pro but I use this tool which helped me:

Thank you. I feel I am little past this stage now though.. Also trying the brick reprieve software . Just can't get my computer to recognise the phone now. No ability to get to emergency download path - think it is my crappy cihinese pc (old Huawei tablet basically) or Windows via apple that have me stranded.
**********SOLVED
THe crappy Chinese language Windows tablet worked as the unbrick OP said WIndows would. Must be a kink in the Windows via Mac that could get me into the situation, but not out.
Very relieved... Even though I still am not 100% sure what I actually ended up clicking to get it to register and connect with the unblock tool (which of course was in Chinese) hahaha.
Cheers
CHeers though
Glad you got it sorted out! Cheers
Need Help, please
Just received my OnePlus 8 pro, decided to Root and unlock the bootloader---this went fine.
I then went and upgraded to Android 11 DP3.
I'm now only able to get into Fastboot. at points it will try to boot but only get to the logo screen and then goes black.
When the phone boots up, it goes to Qualcomm CrashDump Mode.
I've been attempting to solve this for half the day with no luck. I've tried Msmtool, but it doesn't recognize the device, even after loading drivers again.
Is there a way to load a ROM from fastboot mode?
Hoping someone can assist, this is super frustrating and I would appreciate any help, please.

Thanks so much. I ended up getting Msmtool to work. Although my device wasn't on (black screen) and it didn't fully show up in the tool, I decided to start the process anyway and it began to load.
I've been on here for over 10 yeas (XDA) I've just lost my account info and made a new one.
Thanks for taking the time to respond. Much appreciated.
