I got my N7 Last week. My sister Locked it by too many pattern attempts. Now it asking to enter my gmail username and password.. I entered it bt not worked. I googled and find for solutions. I dint get a working solution.
Then i tried to Hard Reset the device. I followed all instructions given by google. But it freezes while Going through Recovery mode. I waited about Hours for a response. after that I tried Hard Reset by connecting USB Cable to PC. It Freezes at the menu itself.
Then I Installed SDK (4.1), ADB, FASTBOOT and Drivers from Nexus 7 toolkit by XDA.. still not working..
please Help Me to Solve this.
My device is UNROOTED.
Wi-Fi is OFF!
USB DEBUGGING is OFF!
I cant acces non of above because its locked.. please please help!
Finally got it!
When I Installed the drivers and Rebooted my device the Hard reset Worked Finely.
Ensure that..
1. USB Cable plugged in or not.
2. Necessary drivers installed or not.
That is funny because that's exactly what happened when I had my og droid. Except I was the one who locked myself out of my phone. Good job on getting this resolved.

This is my first post on this forum. Since the N7 is locked (I have one in the same condition), how did you install anything on it?

Google Nexus 7 Tab unlock
Hi ,
Tried so But failed to unlock my tab..its so painfull and very sad to state that google has no support..Can you help me out with step by step process to unloack my nexus 7 tab from " too many patterns tried "
thx
Sounds like Google should have put some more thought in the feature. Give the users a way to lock themselves out - and they will.
At least the "too many attempts" screen should tell the user to log in with the Google ID and password the device was registered with.
Can't help but think... Stolen.
Geesh, isit so hard Tod remember Gmail info so you can back in?

how do you know for sure its not recognizing it in bootloader?
When I plug in my nexus I can't do anything. The hardware buttons don't work. I don't see anything in the drivers when I plug it in either.

Well, just to let you know, you haven't bricked it. Bricking something means you can't access the device what so ever i.e. it won't boot, won't go into recovery/bootloader mode etc. As to fixing it, I'm not sure. Can the device turn off and on? Have you got drivers installed properly (was fastboot and adb working before this happened)?

I am sure you tried every option , have you tried adb reboot recovery command, when u turn on phone, or adb reboot bootloader. If the manual way does not work, for example when device is powered off (volume down then holding power for 10 seconds). Let me know. Need more details.

Ok I'm trying that now.

So rebooting isnt the problem but getting into recovery or even getting my computer to recognize my device is what i need help with. The entire thing freezes when im in bootloader and try to plug into my computer. So i have to reset by holding down the power button. Ive installed and uninstalled drivers through wugfresh toolkit and nexus 7 toolkit.

That doesnt work either. The thing is, I can use the volume buttons BEFORE I plug it in, but as soon as I plug it into a computer the tablet freezes and i have to reset it.
So ive uninstalled all drivers including the SDK and reinstalled everything and im still stuck at the bootloader. Im starting to believe that its pretty much a lost cause. Can anyone help with trying to figure out what i may have to do now.
If you can get into the bootloader, you're not bricked, nor is it a lost cause.
Since you uninstalled them reinstall the drivers. Download the factory image (nakasi) from here, and then follow these instructions to use cmd and fastboot to reflash the stock ROM.
Ok I will try this.
Freakin love this site!!!
OK, so i now have everything up and running after about 2 hours of uninstalling and installing everything. Turns out that my cpu (or me) was duplicating the drivers. I feel dumb for that
Nexus 7
Android 4.1.2 JZ054K
using Nexus Root Toolkit v1.5.5
I've done: 1. Initial setup- full drive installation
2. backup
3. Unlock
everything went as expected according to the procedure.
4. the Root, it went through it procedure until it got to:
--waiting for your device to finish booting back up...---
been waiting on this screen forever, the Nexus 7 screen shows the android w/ the "Start" tab.
done this procedure several times w/ Nexus Root Toolkit v1.5.4 and several time w/
Nexus Root Toolkit v1.5.5
nothing has changed, don't know if my Nexus 7 is unlocked or rooted.
pls help. any ideas, suggestions...
thanks in advance
Try to reset the device to factory and try again. Take it slow and make sure you're following each step.
If all else fails, Google, Google, Google...
Good luck
I had this same issue today when rooting my new 32gb Nexus 7. Wug's tool wasn't autoselecting the right version (4.1.1 when I had 4.1.2) and it was doing the same thing, hanging on the "waiting for your device to reboot" message. Make sure the firmware version on the Nexus matches the version Wug's tool is detecting.

Dont use a toolkit, its that simple. In the amount of time you have wasted on that toolkit, you could have learned the manual method and realized it wasnt as hard as you thought

Where do I change the USB connection from MTP to PTP . I mean where do I find the dropdown on the device or on in the program?
I can't find any USB settings. I will probably feel a little stupid when I'm told where to find these settings but I'd been knocking my head against the wall long enough

Well I probably would never have found the setting without help, I couldn't find anything called menu so I tried the 3 dots next to the search button, Bingo the jackpot!. Now to see if I can back up the device .
I may be back but let's hope not
Well I'm back!!
I have been through the driver config Guide & the new drivers seem to be installed But I can't see my tablet in explorer anymore & my Device is open in a screen I haven't seen before
A big button at the top of the screen
START
then an up & down arrow
FastBoot Mode
Variant -flo32C
HW VERSION -rev_e
BOOTLOADER VERSION - FLO-04.04
CARRIER INFO - NONE
SERIAL NUMBER -07e1eda6
SIGNING -yes
Secure BOOT - enabled (in green)
LOCK STATE - unlocked
& I'm rather nervous about touching any of it
I'm about to start the driver process again but will wait for some advice
OK I did not follow my own advice & have rebooted the device & it has loaded normally& is now viable on my computer again .
I will wait for some feedback before proceeding Thanks in advance for any assistance Regards Beebee
Hi I repeated the process & have success at last.
I have backed up the device & am about to root it.
What are the advantages & disadvantages of ticking Custom Recovery . I've done a Google search but I finish up being sidetracked for hours when I do that So will just ask you
I recently tried to get sky go working on my rooted nexus 7 by installing a program which would show the nexus as unrooted, when i rebooted the device it came on but the screen was blank but the lcd light was on.
I then decided to unroot and restore to original settings, I did this with the nexus root toolkit everything went through fine but the nexus is now stuck in continual bootloop and I cant enable usb debugging because I can switch the nexus on.
I cannot get into recover mode the message comes boot failed neither can i start the device again it says boot failed
I've had a look at other threads but cant seem to find a solution when you dont have access to usb debugging mode. Please help

I was driven crazy by exactly the same problem as you but I found a solution from here and elsewhere. i.e. two different sites.
See my post:
Booting Failed Bricked Nexus 7 - 2012
on this forum today.
The bulk of my help came from another site but the final steps were completed here.
I am a new member here and I wouldn't like to be banned for providing a link to different site here. If the mods give me permission I will help you but until then you can always email or p.m. me.

After you failed numerous times, doesn't the phone give you the option to log in your google account and reset the passcode?
If you haven;t log into your google account in the phone (you go to play.google.com, and use the Android device manager to change your passcode, or enter the code wrong many times and it will let you have an option to reset by your gmail).
Or if you don't have adb debugging enable or someway to access it, there is no way except factory reseting.
How in earth you forget your code and can't log into the google account?

Install adb, connect your phone to your PC, then use the command "adb devices". If a device code is listed, then it's enabled.
so I have my girlfriends old phone and she thinks that I remember her password but I don't. she lost her newest phone but this one has a lot of pictures that's why she won't factory reset it. any tips? she made the switch to apple and she forgot her password for pretty much everything related to this phone. its an lg nexus 4. help us
Hi!
First of all, yes I've browsed and tried the different solutions in the forum but none of them worked for me.
My Nexus 4 fell from my car (a long story) and the screen is completely destroyed, and yes I mean DESTROYED. The phone works cause the screen lights up and some colours still work, but I can't see anything, and the touchscreen of course does not work.
Problem is: I had a lock pattern so I can't access the data in my computer. I've tried Droidbrowser and the unified Android Toolkit, the last one always gets stuck on "waiting for adb mode" or something like that. I'm pretty sure I had USB debugging activated and all that, but except that, phone is factory, no root, no ROM, no unlocked bootloader.
I've been struggling with this for a while now, would appreciate some help!
Thanks in advance

With out an unlocked bootloader or a custom recovery I'm afraid you're sol. Otherwise you'd need to boot into the os which you can't do with a lock pattern to use adb.
