Strict mode/red frame or border. - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'll just get right into it. Since I flashed Vaniraosp rom I've been seeing this red frame/border whatever you wanna' call it, I disabled strict mode and rebooted, updated the rom and reflashed but none solved the problem. I've been told that factory resetting would fix this but I don't want to lose my data.
Any help would be appreciated, thx.

Have you tried using Titanium Backup to backup your apps and data?

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear enough. What I meant by "reflashed" is that I reflashed the rom after backing up my stuff, (which also didn't work). I just though about totally factory resetting, like also wiping out the internal storage.

No need to apologize.
You could try doing a full wipe from recovery. If that doesn't work, may a complete flash back to stock and then re-flash the custom rom.

Hey guys, saw this one on the other forum
go to `build.prop` and change `.usertype` from `userdebug` to just `user`

Should I do something else after that or is that the solution?
Edit: It worked! Thanks a lot to you and the guy that said the solution!

ive tried all of them. used jt's, stupid fast, and currently on voodoo5
Did you factory reset in setting>privacy>factory data reset?
Also, wipe dalvik cache in recovery too if you didn't already.

My friend had same problem. Its not the update its your rom/lag fix. Whenever he reverts back to stock everything is fine. Im FULLY stock and everything works perfect.
Try reverting your phone back to stock to see the difference.
I know this is an older thread, but I recently had this issue randomly happen to me and found an answer in another xda forum and figured I'd share what I found:

Evo wont go to recovery

Ok ever since I got my new 32gb SD card I've been having problems getting some fictions on my phone to work. I was able to swirl through my phone not changing my splashscreen. But now I'm trying to get into recovery to load ciui rom and it wont go into recovery. I've tried to go into it from rom manager as well and no luck. All it does is take me to bootloader and ask if I want to update I say yes or no and then try to go into recovery and it just goes back to bootloader screen. Is there a setting I may have accidentally changed or any ideas on where to start. Thanks for the help

Nevermind. I just needed to flash recovery. I'm a moron.

Aha that might help!
But to others who do see this thread and have a recovery installed and still cant go into recovery try nandroiding your device then do a factory reset and wipe your caches and it should get it working again.
How can they do a nandroid is they can't get to recovery??
Think about it

The best way to get to recovery when this happens is to flash recovery from Rom Manager. =) problem solved.
ROM Manager actually sucks, tbh, for flashing anything
Ya. ROM manager had some nice tools and functions, but for doing stuff in recovery I wouldn't recommend...

I think it's might be possible, with a script (and precaution) like this one, Roto Backup, but you have to know the exact partitions mapping.

How to uninstall torchlight mod? - SOLVED

Hi. I flashed the mod from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2355931
in order to get the torchlight option like on the s4 active. I've noticed since then that my S Health app crashes (it's not the multi Window app that is causing it, I had that problem before so I had uninstalled the multi window apk). Does anyone know how I can get rid of the torchlight mod without restoring my phone? Thank you in advance...

boot into your custom recovery, wipe cache & dalvik. flash rom/kernel/gapps/loki-doki (whatever it is specifically you need to flash). wipe both caches again and reboot.
that should overwrite the mod without resetting any of your shtuff. cheers.
Thank you so much, I'm a bit confused though, you are saying I have to dirty flash the rom I have, and loki doki? Thanks!

Just backup your apps and factory reset. It's the best solution. It will take you 5 minutes.

Well the phone apk is a system file so if its been deleted doing a factor reset won't help. All factory reset does is wipe the data partition where your user apps and settings are stored. Its not like factory reset uses a backup file to restore things.
I assume you are rooted to have done this. You may be able to find the apk from another two rom , extract it, and see if it will install. If not you may have to Odin back to stock to restore it if you want to keep the stock ROM.
Sent from your phone. You should be careful where you leave that thing.
Do you Know how our where to Get the .apk file?

Unless you knew what specific apk you're looking for I'd Odin back to stock and start over. Good learning lesson
