Here they did a test with most new phones including the Z5! Shame i cant link the photo's directly so you have to go to the link it self http://www.phonearena.com/news/First-Xperia-Z5-vs-iPhone-6-Plus-vs-S6-vs-Z3-vs-G4-camera-samples-comparison_id73408
The Z5 takes pretty awesome shots and its way better then the z3 camera. The colors look so much more correct and in some phones it beats the sgs6.
Edit:

the red on the iphone looks washed out or better said, the amount of light on the car is captured more on it. the z5 captures the real color from my perspective
In my opinion Z5 is better than Iphone 6+ and GS6, colors of the 2 is slightly saturated.
Regardless of color accuracy, the resolution increase still does not helps getting sharper images. There is too much noise reduction applied, especially compared to iPhone 6. Apple here does a decent job although I'd rather have much more noise and no NR applied in camera. Worst offender is LG, which applies an insane post-NR sharpening.
I think we should wait for production samples and hopefully some 3rd party app that can leverage better on this new sensor. Otherwise there is no real advantage against Samsung or Apple.
As for color accuracy, it really comes down to the app and how much processing is done. On my screen (which is calibrated, but it's not best quality panel) and to my eye Z5 has decent overall color rendition, but I prefer the G4 in the first picture (less punch but the overall colors are more accurate) and the iPhone in the third.
In the end, we are not yet at compact camera level - maybe next iteration (z6 or z7 or whatever they will call it). I'd really love to have an RX100 performance squeezed into a phone
Found a site with more samples pics from the Z5 vs note 5. http://www.eprice.com.tw/mobile/talk/4523/4953454/1/rv/sony-xperia-z5-compact-review/ Its a close call but Z5 wins when its shoots a photo in the dark tho.

Am I the only one seeing that low light photos look good on Note 5. Specially the example you gave, Note 5 has more details compared to Z5. Yea we all know that Samsung dose produce more warmer pics which makes the photo looks yellowish, but if you take a closer look the noise reduction is so aggressive in Z5.
View attachment 3476394
P.S: Ah no wonder you seem to mix up the two photos. Note 5 indeed do look better here.
Sony for some reason still cannot make a good camera. Note 5 does look much better in almost every situation.
Also look at the sky in that one pictre. Z5 completely burnt while Note 5 shows some nice detail

These pictures looks awesome. and yea it got lotta details too. We need further tests to see how it's done. Since they can always get it right with software.
New camera module absolutely promising. Specially colour accuracy.

Think its time you get some glasses bro. The first one and clearly the best low light photo is made with the Z5 not the note. Even if you zoom in on the billboard etc you see that the note blurs and has to much overexposed. But both are good camera's tho/.

WOW those pictures look indeed pretty awesome!!! But they are taken by a pro tho with a tripod.
I am a Sony Fan But i Must admit the samsung note 5 is killing sony camera what a poor detail in z5 i hope there is improvement in the last release
Yea Note 5 has a great camera indeed, but I am pretty sure this is related to Software, and eprice device doesn't have the latest camera UI that means it's not running on the latest build, so untill then we can't really say which is better.
But overall Sony has good colour accuracy when it's day-time, I hope it'll be fixed with updates. I really want is more control over the camera such as Manual shutter speed and raw. Hope to see more improvement before the phone's released.
Sony has never been good at software, just hardware. It's just a... Mystery

Specially when it comes to Camera software they don't seem to be doing great.
I am always surprised that despite making good cameras and selling camera parts to other phone manufacturers, Sony phones have the worse cameras in the mobile phone industry. The Z3 camera is terrible relative to Apples and Samsungs and their previous phones were even worse. Hopefully they finally fix it with the Z5.
Wow....

Mmmm... I'm not so sure this is true. I believe I saw that the Z2's camera was far better than the iphone 5s's camera. I don't know if there is a huge improvement with the 6, but I'm pretty sure Sony did a very good job. I love the camera on this phone. It works VERY well. It takes VERY good shots in low light, they even look like they're awesome pictures during the day. Check this one out in a low light shot.

I think it's damn fine for a camera phone and I don't know if Apple's could do any better, TBH.
Either way, both phones are very good phones, except for the bending that's happening on the 6+.

a recent photoshoot out, showed a 83 score for iphone 6 (both models) and 79 for S5 Z3 and Z2.
So it's really close, for the normal untrained eye you probably can not see the difference.
Now sony should wake up. They should start thinking how to improve their camera app. Though it is acceptable as of now but if apple can do it why can't sony to be the best in camera.

A 4 point difference isn't huge and as judging photos is always gonna be subjective I'd be surprised if some people didn't go the other way. TBH I'm surprised Apple haven't done better bearing in mind that, as I understand it, that the Z2 camera isn't a huge jump over the z1 camera.

I am sorry, but if this is the photoshoot Martinus was referring to, then I will take with a lot of caution what it says, coming from DxOmark and the fact that they have put iPhones and Sony's above the Nokia 808. I thought that Martinus was talking about real life shots comparisons between the Iphone 6 (or plus) vs. the Sony. All this benchmark test are really not meaningful IMHO, unless backed up by side-by-side comparison shoots and real life examples.
Thank you in any case,

The Sony Z2 camera for me is pretty good in the light, terrible at night (or in low light). I would not say it is the best camera
Talk to professional photographer and ask him how to set up your camera settings...
Then try
Camera is great, you just have to know how to use it...
AutoMOD is average, not bad but when you know how to use manual mod you can get incredible results.

I don't know what is the problem!
What have the Mega Pixels do with the image quality?
MegaPixels is just the size of the picture... that's it! I could have a camera with 3 megapixels and shoot better pictures than a camera of 30 MP...
The quality of the sensor and the lenses are the most important thing...
I love my Z2 camera but I've seen Iphone 5/5s shoot pictures (specially at night) that would be compared to a proper camera!!!
Nice to see Apple are being innovative and giving you the option of a DIY curved screen.
Today I tested canera performance on my Z3 and my brother's Moto G (2014). The result scared me a little. I hope it's just me who thought the moto G ones were more vivid... what do u guys think?

Yes, sadly.
Try the Camera FV-5 apk. Not that any particular app makes the pictures look better but it gives you a DSLR complete control feel to it. Also the Aviary apk (free) has some nice simple touch ups for pictures.

Whats wrong with the pics?
The Moto pictures look as said saturated blurred and low in quality.
The camera of the Z3 is the best one I ever had. Even in low light enviroment it makes awesome pics.
Compare some pics in the evening when u are watching tv with lights out and be happy to have a phone with such an awesome cam.
The Cam and the Display are the 2 things that keeps me away from installing CM.
If u want more colors play a bit around with the special effects f.e. hdr.

So, I wasn't there but this is what I interpret the pictures as.
The Moto G pics aren't really over-saturated, they just lack dynamic range (difference between dark vs light areas). They essentially tuned the sensor so that if this sort of thing happens, it chooses the brighter side of the scene. The leaves and darker areas can't be recorded as dark as they actually were, so it chooses to make the overall picture just brighter. Sony does a much better job of capturing the light areas such as the concrete and also the darker shades and leaves. The other difference is white balance, the Sony chose something a little cooler, and the Moto warmer. Without being there, tough to say which is more accurate but from the pics I'd say the Sony got it right.
Easy fix, force the Sony to overexpose or use something like pixlr to boost exposure.
Second picture is much of the same, the thing that jumps out is the red colors. In the moto it looks orange, in the Z it looks much more red. Again, if I had to guess the Z got it right.
Now, this is all great with plants, rocks, and garden hoses, but what happens when you take a picture of people? Those Moto pics are going to look off, like people's faces look like cake and lack the proper color it needs.

In every shop there are phones where you can test them.
There are more tests in the net as you could ever read in your lifetime.
So if you don't like it don't buy it.

Have just done a few shots but I'm sure you can save your favorite settings.
If this is too mich work to do I would suggest to sell your Z3 and buy an Moto or similar and stop annoying us.
I personally think the z3 camera is one of the best out there not hard to use manual mode
Sorry. I should've quoted the person who said that that he prefeerd the more vibrant colors over the more accurate. I meant that if you want it more vibrant you should edit it so and let the original photo be correct.
I use 8MP on manual it does well, it's just "Superior Auto" that sucks.

Even though they say it's not final, they've had quite a while to work on improving the camera. I doubt much will change between now and a few weeks.

Well hopefully some of the issues are software related.
Barcelona at night - shot with the HTC M9
Source: Twitter/ https://twitter.com/chrisch1974
There are huge variations in the above photos. Probably because there may have been differences in software and possibly because some of the reviewers are bad photographers. Especially some of the Verge photos show that the guy (that called the phone a beautiful disappointment) did not know how to take proper photos.
Some of the photos are very good, some bad. I believe that HDR will be needed in many cases and I'm not optimistic about low light photos.
I think that we will see many people using the front camera to take pictures during the night.
I still want to see some proper photo review with the latest software.

Dunno why but it looks like taken by the Marketing team of HTC, compared to the other samples we saw, it's like 3x time better, so it's either after lot of manual optimal settings or taken in RAW.
BTW why we still don't have any RAW photo sample?
Perhaps, we'll see... Software optimization can really change a lot. I remember how bad the Nexus 5 camera was at the beginning and after the first updates the quality improved a lot.
Here's what Anandtech said about the M9 camera/photos after their quick hands on. The pictures posted in the article look ok.
http://anandtech.com/show/9012/htc-launches-one-m9-handson
"In casual testing, I saw a dramatic improvement in daytime image quality, and features like HDR as seen above are dramatically improved from the One M8. In general there seem to be fewer issues with things like field curvature and other types of optical distortion along with drastically improved dynamic range, but in low light the results I saw were indicative of poor processing and tuning. HTC representatives stated that the camera tuning, especially in low light were far from final so it remains to be seen if these issues remain in the final product. It seems that the ImageChip 2 has also been deleted from the M9, although the reasons for this are not clear".

It 'always there but must be set before shooting, you can not put after as with the M8
I will be interesting to see how the auto focus works compared to the M8 as there is no phase detection like its predecessor. Though the M8 was no slouch in this regard.
The first thing what I want to express is it is the same phone as M8 until you picked it into your own hands..
As this fabulous handheld happened in your own hands – you begin getting overwhelmed with a brand new experience after HTC M8.
Using M9 is unexpectedly fresh and very much refined experience in comparison to M8: the shape of the phone, and how it feels in your hands (it’s not slippery anymore), and its new very dark gun-metal tint; furthermore the Sense 7 experience is amazing and vivid.
The next thing – new BoomSound. The amount of base was slightly decreased but the quality and clarity of the base was significantly improved. After M9 speakers, M8 sounds if I may say “cheap”..
I made some screenshots and uploaded ZIP archive to my Dropbox:

Then I also took some photos (Macro, Low-light and Outdoor) and made another archive:

How is the screen compared to M8? Is it less bright?
Thanks for the mini review
With all this doom and gloom sad news for HTC lately, everyone makes the M9 sound like the worst phone ever created.
I owned the M8 last year, and flashed the GPE ROM, and I LOVED that phone, such a good size, easy to one hand operate, unlike the popular 5.5" and larger phones.
Can you please post pictures of the phone itself. I haven't seen a lot of the Gunmetal Grey M9 pics, most sites just have the Gold or Silver version.
1. The screen is same bright as M8 screen but a bit "warmer", however that may simply vary due to different manufacturer..
2. You feel the shape of m9 body is different (and new shape is better)
3. Gun-metal isn't slippery anymore.
4. Gun-metal color is now nearly black. (imho more beautiful and luxury)
5. Yes, the software is the latest.

Can u see the display in dark room from this diagonal angle and confirm the quality of the screen. Is it like the left one or whit this grey /shadow like the right one
The animation of entire UI is that much smooth and snappy that makes a strange feeling of being UNREAL..
Surely such impressions feeling is very much appreciated.

Looks like outdoor quality photos are better than what we saw before, trees for example are less smudgy, though still not as detailed as Note 4.
As for indoor photos it's still oily paint when 100% scale
It was sunny when you took the photos? it looks like cloud overcast
Nice shots
I think the shots looked good. Would like to see some more outdoor with colors, hdr and possibly more macro shots. Produces really nice detail on the watch !
the main question here is how is the battery life? better than m8? stats? figures? screen on time?
1. Today isn't sunny at all long white cloud..
2. Did you see a dove flying in the sky on image # 44 ?
3. Two photos in the restaurant are HDR photos.
4. The handheld is in use 24 hours - what battery life are you talking about?
Thank you, kind sir, for taking time to share these with us Your mini review is much appreciated! Just to clarify, these photos have been taken after applying the recent software update, am I right?
The handheld software is up to date. See AIDA64 screenshots for more info. Thank you.

Oh well, finally HTC updates their Kernel and GPU driver:silly:
I hope they also brings the update to M8 even M7
The new GPU driver shows v103,the latest one is v104 though...
The photos are pretty good. If you could gives us more it'd be nice.
Any signs of overheating?
Also some more battery info would be nice.
Thanks for your post !

Can you take a photo of the phone in low light and from a low side view to see if the screen is getting washed out or not?
Btw did you tried it under direct sunlight? if yes it's as easy to view the screen than M8 or worse?
Thank you. The pics looks better than I hoped for. You can see the absence of ois but it's still much better than I hoped for. Having been a proud owner of both M7 and M8, the smoothness is in another ballgame than say... Touchwiz. Using a note 4 with today version of lollipop it's much better but HTC has always been smooth as an apple.

About photos from M9...didn't you notice green tint in many pictures?
For example look at this photo. Nothing wrong to your eyes?
The pictures looked cool on my Nexus 7 2013 display, but then I downloaded the zip on my PC, and I'm not really satisfied with them, at 100%, with non-optimal light, there's a hell lot of noise, it looks like watercolor.

Source.
LeEco Le 2 X620 (non-Pro) uses the same rear camera. Samples: 1, 2, 3, 4.
To be honest, it looks like this phone's camera would be average at best. What a pity

Well that is disappointing, why they would cripple such and incredible device with a sub par camera makes no sense?
I was all before this now will need to see some reviews on the camera in real life before I drop $1000 CAN on it

A properly written driver could improve the camera's performance but it's still an average one. I wish it used Mi Note 2's IMX318 but sacrifices had to be made to keep the price low.
Xiaomi always uses few suppliers for their camera sensor so this could be just one variant out of many.
The reason of not using IMX318 or even IMX378, I guess is due to keep the phone slim. There is a huge 4400mah battery and many other things like ultrasonic sensor, piezoelectric ceramic, to fit in a body that's slightly bigger than iPhone 7 Plus.
Mi Mix is a design first product, hence expect other aspects of the phone to be average.

There is far less likelihood of me purchasing it due to poor camera performance as opposed to higher cost.

Would the Mi Mix work on US AT&T?

wow, the #2 sample link..... not a single fully in focus shot. I use the camera rarely but damn, if i lay down this much cash for a device i want it to work adequately well

It is possible to improve its performance using a proper driver, we can only guess until we see a real review of the Mix. LeEco's phones have awesome specs but have horrible firmware - check Le Pro 3 and compare it to OnePlus 3 which has the exact same sensor.

Yes but not LTE. Only 2 out of 4 bands for LTE.

yeah but from that review the oneplus doesn't look spectacular as well, unless you're talking about some after market drivers that boosted oneplus even further? Also is there any info on the panel itself? viewing angles, sharpness, colors etc. FHD on that size of a screen is a bit low i'd say. it might be what kills it for me, coming from note 4
Well, I'm out.
Could forgive an OmniVision for the selfie camera.
Rear camera? No way. They're total crap and completely inadequate for a device of this cost and design.
Check it out from 1:30 onwards.
That doesn't look too good unfortunately. And the Mi Note 2 isn't that much better either as I'd have hoped. Hopefully Huawei releases something better next week with CM support (one can dream).

The Mi Note 2 has a better sensor than the iPhone, and by some margin. Exposure control just looked poor ... but then exposure control on the front camera was much, much worse on the iPhone than the Mix.
But the Mix's rear camera sensor is **** ... there's no two ways about it. Huge amounts of noise, chromatic aberration, distortion and very poor detail resolution.

So even custom software/drivers to run it won't help it much?

None of the Omnivision camera modules are really suitable for rear cameras on devices costing more than $200 in my view. As selfie cameras some of them are adequate.
I'm guessing Sharp more or less engineered the phone for Xiaomi, which wouldn't have been cheap, and the screen module etc would be extremely expensive ... so I guess they're trying to cut as many costs as they can elsewhere.
P.S. I was in Kaunas last year ... Moksha, a little Asian restaurant, was very pleasant
only one that doesn't care about the camera? I just wanna know if we will get custom Roms for this thing. It literally looks like my dream phone, can't for the life of me understand why it took Xiaomi to make something like this.

The first part with detailed pictures is also quite depressing. That's a shame, even with a tweaked firmware the camera would be mediocre
Uhm, nevermind.

well people want to get an all around good experience. it is rather cheap in china, but the international resellers are blowing up the prices. so when the phone totals near the same price an s7 or s8 would cost, they expect similar quality
