DualBoot Rom Support? - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know I am ahead of myself, but once we are able to dish out root and Roms on this phone, would it be really difficult to setup a dual boot environment, like they do with the nexus 6? This would be an awesome thing to have come up later down the road.

It would be great because I could be running stock whenever I wanted to use moto assist and just switch over to AOKP when I want to customize the junk out of it. Haha

You would have to ask Tassadar. He does amazing work. I don't think it will come to the Pure, but you never know!

Well, since this is a completely unlocked phone, can't you just take the source code from the nexus 6's and change the hardware portion of that code? Or am I just really showing my ignorance right now? Haha

No, much of mulitirom is device specific. In addition, multirom is not currently 64bit compatible. The kexec-tools that multirom uses would need a lot of work to be compatible with an arm64 device.

Pretty much what Hashbang said. I don't know the mechanics behind it but I know that it is device specific. That's why it is only supported for a few devices. Maybe Tassadar will buy the Pure or will be willing to help us. We shall see!

Oh, i didn't know that. Thanks for explaining that to me. Since it's a long shot right now, I won't bring it up anymore. By the way, thanks for the speedy TWRP/root updates!! When my phone comes in, that will be the first thing I will do. I can't wait to see what other awesome developer work you guys can do with this phone!! Keep up the awesome work!!

Extracted img from 'L' now what?

Hey all,
I extracted the img file from the dev preview of 'L' from the Hamerhead version.
I'm new at this and it's really cool to explore and see how these things are built. Can I just pull the framework from 4.4.4 and throw it into the img and flash that?
What would it take to be able to flash this? I'm sure I can't, but maybe someone could enlighten me on what goes into this as I'm really interested in learning.
Thanks in advance!

Well, there are some guides for porting on XDA. However, since the Android L Source code isn't released yet, you cannot build it from source. So you would need to base it on a Kitkat rom. But since the radio, bootloader and apps from Android L require android L, you cannot just do that.
So a port would need to change drivers, frameworks and some other stuff I don't understand . However, some guys already started porting Android L to the Nexus 4, and , no offence, I think they are done much quicker as you (or me). So take a look: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/android-5-0-discussions-rumors-t2780976/post53701458

There's a reason I don't really post/go on xda anymore. It's all a bunch of crying flamers who constantly ask for updates and complain when **** doesn't work.
That and the fact that I have a nexus so i'm not flashing roms every week lol

I'm on here a lot more than usual. I'm between jobs now and at home. Will be changing next week though. One of my biggest pet peeves is those who won't take the time to research stuff before asking/demanding help. Answer is in the OP, but they don't bother to read it. Burns my hide as they say. ?

I usually just port Custom Rom's to devices. Not really port I guess, just have to change the device tree. Do a little bit of kernel stuff to.
I don't consider myself a dev, but I will be getting one of these, once the "Sand" version is available.
I am wondering how much more difficult everything is going to be between Lollipop/SELinux and 64-bit capability.
This will be my first Nexus device as well - closest I've had up to now is running GPE on my M8.

I mean, what do you think the ROM consists of right now? What are you planning on doing once you figure out how to do a device bring up? FYI, device bring up guides can be easily found on this very website.
The ROM is stock right now. Without repo access what exactly is going to be Paranoid about it? What features do you think are in the current source?
There is basically nothing but aosp right now. I don't understand what you are wanting to actually do.

Well. You could try cherry picking old features out of github, on top of current source, but you will probably find a lot of problems and conflicts. Basically until there is a release, you won't know what features are being brought back, so essentially you could build any ROM you want now.

Am I mistaken in thinking that the guide assumes you've already synced? I've tried to do that as outlined in the AOSPA manifest for marshmallow, but apparently that is the private git.

what you should have said is, Linux is my b*tch, i own smali and i will smoke any kind of framework that force closes on me because android is like my mind.
Taking a few classes means that we will see a new ROM on the HD2 before you finish.
No disrespect, but that task needs some talent mate, i don't pretend to have it but you need to be a hardcore android programmer to be able to even scratch the surface.
Let alone build and maintain a ROM.

[DISCUSSION] ROMs and Development

This thread is for users to exchange information regarding development for the LG K7
As we all know, there are no working custom roms for the LG K7. It's a real shame because that's just what this device needs.
I would like to revive this community and give a glimpse of hope for a custom rom. The community around this phone is no longer thriving like it was a year ago. Anyone willing to create some projects is welcome to discuss on this thread.
I would be interested in helping with development if I actually knew anything about porting roms. Seeing how most unofficial rom ports have basic stuff like the camera, GPS, or sometimes even WiFi completely broken I highly doubt I'd be able to provide the fixes for those if they arise. Best I could do would be to find already made patches for a phone using a similar configuration, and even then I'd more then likely have to go in and tweak a few things.
If you can provide me with easy to use tools for this sort of thing I'd be more then willing to help, and even then I can't really afford to lose functionality of my phone for even a day, so can't really test stuff on actual hardware for you

See, the LG K7 doesn't even have a basic rom like that. We need a place to start. I also don't have a clue of how to fix problems like that. I also don't have the proper hardware and software to make a rom myself.

Edit: new code dropped at https://github.com/MiCode/Xiaomi_Kernel_OpenSource/tree/cas-q-oss
Great news good to see some development may start soon hopefully.
It's been available for a while, as you can see the most recent commit is in March. However, the source tree is not completed. It's one of the reasons for the lack of development.

That, along with some other reasons, is why till now there is no rom.

Devs have lives too, and this is just the thing they do in their free time, so they work at their own pace. Not every devs want to report everything, nor do they have to.
Things will get released when they are ready. Rushing the devs will just increase the chance that they will abandon everything.

Personally, I don't like MIUI, nor MIUI based Roms: eu, ROS, mix, etc.
I think it's worth to wait a while, even one month, for install a decent AOSP based ROM on this brilliant hardware. I made that on my Mi Max 3 and I am very happy now with the phone.
