samsung galaxy s5 won't stay connected to prius 15 - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Verizon Samsung galaxy s5 that will not stay connected to my 2015 Toyota prius. It connects once or twice and then it drops and loses Bluetooth although contacts are still there. Toyota says it's the phone because they tried other phones and they work. Verizon and Samsung say it's the updates on the car. Help!

It's always fun when companies blame each other instead of trying to find the problem. Have you asked Toyota if they have any bluetooth firmware updates they can update your car with? Or maybe even downgrade? Another thing to try is connect your phone to another bluetooth enabled device or someone else's car and test it. Narrow it down as much as possible. If it works on other cars and not yours, then I'd be heading back to Toyota.

We went back to Verizon and talked to someone there who actually has a Samsung galaxy s5 like mine. He does not have a prius but everytime he starts his car he has to go into his phone, click on Bluetooth and then tap on car multimedia under paired devices. By the time we got home we were exhausted and so stressed we didn't try it again and again to see if it was dropping. Toyota told my husband we need 5.1 update. Verizon told us it's not available yet through them. Our daughter has a Samsung s4 with 5.0.1 and it seems to work for her on our car. We are just so frustrated with the whole situation. Shame on Toyota for putting the car out there, saying the phone is compatible with the car and yet it isn't. Shame on Samsung for not making the 5.1 available. I feel like saying I'm done and yet I paid for a brand new car with hands free Bluetooth that nobody can get to work for us. I'm pretty close to putting all this on facebook for Toyota, Verizon and Samsung. Someone needs to step up to the place and fix this problem.

I have an S5 with kitkat and it connects perfectly to my 2012 Highlander. I don't have entune, so maybe that's what's throwing it off. Does your car (I assume because it's a '15) have the entune stereo system?
And not for nothing, but you can complain on facebook all day, and it won't make a difference:
1) Every company, especially Toyota, caters to the iPhone, not Android. There are loads of problems that they couldn't care less about fixing for that reason
2) It's probably working for >99% of the customers, so they will do nothing to help you. Clearly they blamed the phone, Samsung will blame Toyota. It's a cycle you can't get out of.

Thanks for your comments and yes we have entune. What can you do about it?

Car Mode issues

First off, apologies if this is not in the correct forum, I'm not sure if this is device specific or not...
I have 2 phones. An AT&T S5 and a Samsung ATIV S Neo running Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview. The one feature I absolutely love about the Neo is the ability to read and respond to SMS over bluetooth in the 3 vehicles I own... they are:
2014 Chevrolet Impala LT with MyLink (no Nav)
2013 Chevrolet Camaro SS (with Mylink and Nav)
2012 Chevrolet Traverse (no MyLink or Nav)
On what I am guessing is the MAP part of Bluetooth, my Windows Phone works with each vehicle flawlessly to receive and respond to SMS. I can't say the same for my S5 (which by the way, is rooted, running SafeStrap, and running Alliance ROM so that I can have Car Mode, which AT&T saw fit to remove out of their version). I can only get the S5 to work correctly with the Traverse, which also happens to be the oldest vehicle. I have yet to find a 3rd party app that might be able to get around this.
It is beyond frustrating that a 2014 device such as the S5 does not work with vehicles that are relatively new in this regard. Is this true of all 2014 devices? I wish there was an easy way to find out. Most car manufacturers and even aftermarket ones don't even list any 2014 devices as being compatible with them... I know it might sound like nitpicking, but a phone (the Neo) that was released almost a full year ago works fine across all my vehicles... am I missing something here?
And yes, the new thing with Android and vehicle integration is all well and good, but probably won't be able to see that in action for what.. another year at least?

x727 - not compatible with Android Auto

Le Pro 3 is having compatibility issues when connected to Honda Accord 2016 car system - Android Auto system.
Error thrown on Accord : Unknown devices.
Does any know, workaround to resolve compatibility issues with Android Auto for Le Pro 3.
Thanks in advance.

We're you able to get it working with the Accord? I'm thinking of getting this phone, but I need it to work with my Civic.
Also won't work with Chevy Mylink system. Huawei Mate 8 and Nexus 6P work fine, Pro3 does not. After connecting the phone, the car detects it and asks to connect, and when selecting yes, it return the car infotainment to what it was on (radio), and not the android auto screen. On the the phone there is an Android Auto notification, which cannot be clicked. The phone switches to a USB screen stating that it is in charge only mode.
Anyone have any steps to get around this.

Can you clarify the port change you made. Both my car and phone only have one port, so I am not sure what you mean by switching ports. Thanks.

VW has confirmed that my USB port is faulty and ordered a replacement. I have two USB ports in my car, the front one does not work properly, where as the rear one works just fine.
If your car recognizes your phone, your phone is charging, but not connecting, then, most likely, one of the pins of the USB port might be loose. Have your dealership check it.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the clarification, i understand, you are physically changing a port! I doubt this is the issue in my car, as the car is in regular use by many drivers. 3 other phones work. A nexus 5, a nexus 5x and a Nexus 6P. You can see apettern there on what phones we prefer! I am also currently trying the Huawei Mate 8 which also works. But the Le Pro3 (x727) fails every time. A bad port would likely not work or be intermittant on at least some of the other phones.
I did try other cables, including the one that came with the phone, no difference. Did your dealer let you plug into a car on the lot, to verify the phone will work?

No, I just started the issue and they were able to test for it.
Have you enabled USB debugging in dev options? Try disabling it, try MTP/PTP options while connecting. Also, try clearing data or reinstalling Android Auto or verify the app permissions.

Yeah, I think I have tried everything, which is why I decided to come over here to the smart folks for help. I enabled USB debugging, turned off battery optimization, checked all permissions. It is interesting that when it connects to the car USB port, the USB computer connection screen pops up, which is where you set MTP/PTP/Charge only, and it is set to charge only, and the options are grayed out, so I can't change them. With USB debugging enabled, it allows those to change, but it still makes no difference. It may be the combination of the Chevy AA implementation and the X727 ROM. It seems other users here are getting connected, so change the car it works. On my end, change the phone and it also works. Bummer. Will have to sell the Chevy or the phone. !!

I tried my phone on a 2016 Accord Touring: Android Auto worked fine.
Tried on 2016 Accord EX-L: Did not work. I tried all options on my phone; MTP, PTP, Charging, USB Debugging On/Off...No bueno. I'll look into any possible software updates for the audio unit and report back.
Tried on 2016 Civic EX-L: Android Auto works fine.
Looking into the Accord situation, I don't see any software updates for 2016 Accord. There are two different audio head unit part numbers used for 2016 Accord, both made by Clarion. The Touring, EX-L Navi & EX-L Navi V6 all use the same head unit. EX-L & EX-L V6 use a different head unit than the others. That may be the issue, but I don't know the root cause of the difference. Still looking into things.
Waiting for feedback from Clarion tech line rep at our offices in Ohio. I sent software version info for both units to him, so I'm waiting to see what he says.

There is a software update available for the audio head unit in your accord. I got the update file from our product development group here and I wish I could send it to you, but it's 19gb. Probably the best thing to do is go to your local honda dealer and have them update it for you. I imagine they would charge you for that, but I don't know for sure, and I don't know how much.
The update took about 30 minutes or so, and I can confirm my phone now works on it.
To summarize, my phone worked on our 16 Accord Touring and now the 16 EX-L after the update.
Hi Honda John,
I took my Honda 2016 Accord to the dealership, they said that they couldn't find any software update for the audio head unit in their system, could you please guide me towards my next steps?
thanks!
Ashmit
I factory reset my Honda Civics Bluetooth system and I can add my LEX727 to Android Auto now. It may also be because I'm on TARS ROM, but I never got that far before until I did the factory reset.

Which Honda dealer is it? I'll contact our Honda DPSM for your district and have them work with the dealer. According to our Product Development group, the update files are available on the server, but at this point an official Service Bulletin hasn't been published directing the dealer to look for the update. it's supposed to be coming out soon, but no specific date.

Hi John,
Thank you for getting back at me. My dealership is Valley Honda in Naperville, IL. They said that they weren't able to find any softwares in the bulletin, and my Car's software said that it was most updated one. I would appreciate if you could contact the DPSM and share with him about the issue.
I am still under 15 days of purchasing this phone, so I have the opportunity to return the device, if this does not get figured out. I need android auto for navigation as I am seriously direction impaired
I really appreciate your help!
Thanks,

Hi Ashmit, the Clarion engineer told me the update will probably be released by the end of this year, or early next year. Evidently, Honda will send each dealer two thumb drives when the service bulletins (one for Pilot, one for Accord) are published.
Unfortunately I think that's outside of your phone return window. If you'd still like to PM the name & number of the person you've been talking to, I'll give them a call & explain the situation.
I'm sorry it's not better news.

Sony XAV-AX100 Bluetooth Issues

Just doesn't pair. Finds the device, I try pairing on my phone and it does it forever til it times out. On the other hand my friends phone connects instantly with no wait! Anyone else had issues with connecting to a headunit? Before that I had a Pioneer one with no issues but when I upgraded to a Sony one Bluetooth will not pair on the OnePlus 5.
Think I'm gunna get rid of this head unit and pay £60 more for a Kenwood one.

I just went halfords and swapped it for a kenwood one. Had to pay £50 more. I haven't got around to setting it up yet so will test later to see if bluetooth works.
I've noticed Bluetooth issues with my car's head unit. It is a stock unit from Subaru. It paired just fine but I have to manually connect every time... And sometimes I have to click connect multiple times before it actually connects.
No problems with other phones on that head unit, and also no issues with other BT devices.

Well at least you're getting further than me lol
My previous head unit by pioneer worked okay, paired instantly and automatically connected as soon as I turned the car on. Let's hope I got more luck with the Kenwood. Finish work in 40 mins so will test then.
Well the Kenwood works great and as it should. I didn't even have to setup Bluetooth android auto did all of that for me looks. Like it's Sony's fault rather than OP

I also can't connect to my car stereo. But my OP5 (OOS 4.5.6, rooted SuperSU) just won't see my MEX-XB100BT. My OP2 (CM14) had no issues seeing and connecting to it.
UPDATE: I managed to pair the phone via NFC. Worked like a charm from the first try.
I have a Pioneer unit (avic f960dab) and my OP5 connects absolutely fine.
Media browsing however does not work at all. Used to work with my iPhone but have never been able to get it working with Android.

For what it's worth, I ALWAYS had issues connecting Android devices to the OEM stereos in my 2011 STI and 2015 WRX. I've since switched to an Audi and those connectivity issues are gone (with both Google Pixel and Galaxy S8). The Subaru OEM stereo is known to be garbage. I highly recommend doing yourself a favor and upgrading it. It will improve the sound quality of your OEM speakers while also improving bluetooth connectivity. It's something I never did but in retrospect, I should have.

I've been considering upgrading since day one, but as long as my phone connected fine it didn't bother me too much. This might be a good enough excuse...
I got my 6t to pair with the radio by connecting the phone to the radio with the usb for Android Auto. Before connecting using USB I could not find the radio under available devices to pair with. After connecting to the radio the with the USB I was able to see the radio and my phone was trying to connect, kept giving an error 'wrong pin' at this point I just unplugged the USB and the the radio ask for permission to use the contacts in my phone which I granted. Radio is now paired and auto connects.

Honda Accord 2017 Coupe and Samsung S8

So I can pair the phone, see contact etc - play music. BUT cannot use Voice Prompts - when I click the steering wheel for voice, says Phone Not Compatible
It used to work with my Sonata 2015, any ideas?
I have Bixby remapped though, unsure if related

Which accord model? do you have nav with your accord? i went thru this with my accord years ago until i found out my trim level needs nav for all voice commands to work. with lower levels you only get basic ones. however ive never had it say not compatible with any of my phones, from old rooted devices to current s8. you might need to re-pair the device and make sure you approve all prompts on phone and accord screen.

That's super weird. Sorry I'm out of ideas other than checking in on Honda Accord forums too. If it's a problem with accords I'm guessing someone might have reported it there too and possibly found a solution. I'm inclined to think there are a number of Accord owners with an s8 and someone over there might've noticed. Calling Honda corporate directly might be an option as well to ask them if they've seen the issue. Good luck, i understand how that's a frustrating issue.

I have CR-V 2014 and S8+, when adding contacts to a quick call, you need to create a voice call in the car multimediasystem, because she is talking to the car when you press the button on the steeringwheel, not to the phone. Try it.

Howdy! New user, requesting some knowledge on Hizpo 8.0 px-5 head unit.

Ladies and Gentlemen, some assistance please if you can.
I decided to upgrade the head unit in my 06 chrysler 300c this weekend, which was perfect timing as the stock head unit decided it absolutely hated the FM band Friday night and refused to play it.
At any rate, the head unit in question is a Hizpo octacore 4gb ram 32gb rom, running android 8.0.
My brother is a stereo shop installer and did the work, we got it up and running stellarly! Added a sub and amp while we were at it and with the already amplified boston acoustics stock speakers, I'm extremely pleased with the audio output.
Here's the rub. This morning I shut the wifi down as I was leaving trying to get it to tether with my phone and pull data via usb cable so I wouldn't have to hotspot the phone. I seem to be struggling to get it to pull or recognize any storage devices via usb. The phone in question is a Galaxy S9 running android 9. I've tried following the instructions it gave with the debugging and all, but still no joy.
Which brings us to when I got back home I attempted to turn the wifi back on, and it wouldn't connect, didn't even appear to be attempting. So I did a factory reset, and now I've lost the navigation that came with the head unit that worked offline. I'd like that back.
So can anyone provide any assistance in my quest? I've searched youtube, no luck, I've done some searches up here and can't find much on the Hizpo brand, and nothing that seems to be along the lines of the issues I'm having.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I've wondered if it would be worth it to try to upgrade to android 8.1 but I'm not in a big rush for that as I'm still learning this head unit. My primary concern is trying to get the navigation back and get the USB ports to actually let me transfer some music and videos to the dang thing. I've been trying to put some music on it via google play, but the wifi is incredibly slow for some reason, I've got a brand new super fancy router for the house and all the other devices that hit it (there are many, my house is not short on teenagers) and work well, I realize it's on the slower wifi network and the playlist I'm trying to download isn't exactly short. lol
Many thanks for any and all input!
