Hello T-Mobile users,
If anyone is feeling adventurous, try the T-Mobile build of Plasma kernel (AOSP ONLY!) here. Don't forget to backup your boot partition first!
Please post your results.

Okay trying this kernel out however it's eating battery like its starving. And so far can't seem to get core 2 and 3 to come online, core 0 and 1 are stuck at 1.19GHz. Gone through the settings nothing is capping them to that frequency...so I'm uncertain why this is happening, I tried other CPU Governor's as well to no luck.
As I typed this I went from 50% down to 44% in the matter of 3 minutes. Only apps I have up are Tapatalk and Fauxclock.
I'd like to see how this kernel performs, but if I doesn't play very well, I will go back to Temaseks kernel as its a dream for battery/performance balance.

I'm not sure if anyone else is having my problems. I'm running stock 4.1.1 with this Kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831780 (I'm not even sure if that matters). My nexus 7 isn't nearly as fast as when I first had it. Its gotten slower. I'm having issues with multiple games randomly freezing my entire Nexus 7. Sometimes I have to hold down the power button for 20 seconds because it won't respond at all. Also, whenever I reboot it says "Android is upgrading..." then at the bottom it says "Starting apps" for a few seconds. I've had this problem for awhile now. I've tried clearing the Dalvik Cache, removing memory/storage, defragmentation, etc. I'm not sure why it is acting like this. Please help. Thank you!

Lol you don't know if it matters that you're using the elite kernel? Maybe you shouldn't be flashing kernels quite yet bud. Go back to stock kernel.
OK ill see if that helps, although I think the issues were happening even before I flashed it. How do I go about returning the the stock kernel?

backup all your stuff to your PC, and load the factory rom and it will wipe everything clean including your SD. After trying a few roms I noticed there are some hidden craps that can't be seen by any file explorer and the only way to clear them off is flashing back to stock.
Hi,
Elite Kernel works pretty good. But maybe it has too much overclocked GPU for your device, yeah some device can't hold as much performance then others. Try flashing back the stock rom and see if it works

You really shouldn't game on 1.8ghz the elite offers unless you are using ice under your N7. The elite is not really for daily use just benching and seeing how far one can go. Imo pull the core speed down to 1.5 / 1.3ghz to see if your games become stable. Also try the motley kernel build 218 with the 520 gpu for everyday use. Cache whipping should only be done if your installing different roms and completely different kernels. the elite kernel is a motley build so no wipe is needed.
Cheers

I think you guys are confused as to which one I'm running. I'm using the one on the second post where the max speed is 1.5GHz.
The 1.5 extreme under volt? Actually that kernel flat out boot looped my N7 and the only way to get out of it was connecting the N7 to the pc. Ditch that kernel. Use the 1.8 / 650gpu pinkfix that kernel is stable at all core speeds for me. Imo just set the clock speed to 1.3 to reduce heat. The 650gpu setting at 1.3 / interactive / cfq will still give you 66fps on nena2. My best score is 71 at 1.8. I the heat build up for gaming is just to much.
Always clear data on setcpu and sys tuner pro when jumping kernels.
Concerning lag does power off then back on fix it for a short time? If so you might want to return it. Asus really dropped the ball on the early N7 runs. I love "Googles" N7 but I'll never buy another Asus product. Hopefully Google picks a better Manufacturer next time.

Ok. Do I flash this one: https://rapidshare.com/files/1034477848/Clemsyn1.8GPU650.zip or the pinkfix: https://rapidshare.com/files/223841402/Clemsyn1.8GPU650Pinkfix.zip?
Pinkfix. Run your games at 1.3 to see if their stable. Gameloft works best at 1.4 / 1.5 just watch the heat to hot and it will start to lag. THD games 1.3 TOPS their optimized and don't need the oc. Once your done messing with the elite motley build 218 520 gpu is a better everyday kernel for gaming. Have fun and always have a few different kernels in your download folder in case something goes wrong and you need to use recovery from the pc.
Cheers

How much free space do you have on your device? It's been found that the Nexus 7 lags pretty bad when you're running extremely low on space. Try freeing up a couple gigs and see if that improves things.
Also, following Jay's Recipe for Buttery Goodness will help greatly speed up your device.
Do you have your dalvik cache integrated into the ROM with Titanium Backup? That's one way to cause the "Android is upgrading..." to appear on every boot.
Hi everybody
I come from Samsung Blaze 4g phone, i can believe how much you guys development has here. its my 4th day on front pc and can't decide what rom and kernel to choose. I need lte with tethering, long battery life, I don't play games at all. If any one like recommend something for me I be very thankful and happy
Hey
You can try paranoid android rom with franco kernel

thank you guys for reply
For me, Paranoid Android with MatrixKernel has given the best results.
My Antutu Score is around 3000 (21600 vs 18000 on normal Nexus 4) higher than stock Nexus 4, while still saving an amazing amount of battery.
Matrix chaging your minimal processor clock speed to 192 Mhz to save a lot of battery in idle mode. As well as undervolting out of the box to values that still run the phone very smoothly. I don't know what the other Kernel teams have been doing the last few weeks though. But for me Matrix works
Dude, you should definitely try PA with Franco if you're into modding and stuff. Then immediately change the color profile in Franco Updater app to have the BEST color display )

Hello Everyone,
I bought a nexus 4 a couple of months back, and have been using stock roms with OTA updates (Currently on Kitkat 4.4) ever since.
Before N4, I was using a samsung galaxy I5500 , which only had a couple of custom roms and it was easy to decide which one to go for.
But now, I see so many roms and kernels and I have no idea where to begin modding my phone.
So, I need suggestions, which rom/rom+kernel should I go for ?
I am not a very heavy user and mostly use my phone for routine activities like music, internet browsing, GPS, whatsapp, text, call [The list is exhaustive ].
The main things that I care for would be long battery life, lesser phone operating temperatures, and a good/beautiful (subjective, but whatever).
so bretheren, Please suggest me a ROM/ROM + Kernel combo which matches my needs.
Thank you for your time and effort.

slimbeam 4.3.1 + faux123 kernel. or rastakat + ak kernel 223 (or more). leave min freq ate 192 and max at 1.2ghz, mp decision on. and boom.
for performance i say psx 4.4 with caf libs(i dont remember if psx itself comes with them)and ak kernel 223 or more with oc 1.9, gpu oc to 487mhz, both in performance gov, min freq 387, disable mp decision. put thermal throtle to 60ºC, put 2048 of data buffer and row i/o scheduler.
ps: u can use trickster to change kernel settings.
psx rom v2 + stock kernel (psx kernel) or faux kernel AK218 will do.

So for the newbies (I have been modding Androids for a years now):
What's the set-up you have found to work best? Are there any issues with it?
Here's mine:
Cyanogen 10 (ROM)
KTManta with kttweaker app(kernel)
interactive CPU: 2100/200 GPU:720/100 (Governor)
FIOPs(scheduler)
Notes:I also gave a five volt boost to the CPU steps (but I would do this last thing and only if you need it). Advice from Omnislyfer: I would like to tell you is about the overheat of you device. Our exynos processor it's great, but it has got some problems with temp at higher frequencies. You have overclocked a lot your device, and I think it's an insane thing to do. The main goal of voltage settings are to undervolt the device at stock frequencies, in order to reduce the overheating effects. You have done exactly the opposite: you have OC your device and also you have rises the voltages. So thrust me: from Ktweaker app, load default settings (so max CPU free will be 1700, and 533 for gpu), then subtract at least -50mv to all CPU voltages and -25 gpu voltages. You will not see particular performance loss (our n10 rly doesn't need Overclock) and hoverheat problems will disappear. Thanks Omni, I currently am testing this. Edit: Tested and this is great advice for this kernel. There is still heat issues for cpu intensive apps, but they are slower to manifest. Straight GPU functions (MX player -HW+) do not seem to need the undervolting and may be able to be ramped up. I did not test with any intensive games as it is hard to seperate the processors.
Video player (this is important for Nexus 10's):
MX Player with the custom codec properly installed (it occasionally (1/100 hours) drops the app when streaming video (twitch), but re-opens easily.
Comments to the community: I agree that people should try out everything. However, I recently had to re-root an old phone and run back through a lot of threads to find a stable set-up. This was to even see if I had rooted correctly. On the Nexus 10, the base Cyanogen 10 kernel kind of blows and my device was all sorts of buggy. The purpose of this is to help new modders and share some knowledge about stable set-ups with each other.
I've ran the gambit of custom ROMs through various versions of Android swearing by one over another but in the end I returned to rooted stock, Franco kernel, XPosed framework with Gravity box. Stability is my driving force and that just seems the most stable without loosing features such as the immersion UI.
Must have apps:
SuperSU
Viper4android
LMT
Nova launcher
Neutron
MX Player
For me other apps fall off in importance but those are the ones I'm taking to a deserted Island.

And this is my config:
-Purity ROM - - > clean, stable and fast;
-Trinity Kernel - - > extreamly fast, but it leaks some feature (there is No Undervolt);
-ART runtime! - - > you have no idea of the advantages. Everything is faster and great battery life improvements.
About the apps :
-SuperSu;
-Nova launcher;
-Trinity Kernel Toolbox;
-MusicFX
Hi,
First I think you should give a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2725128. Many people are sharing their configurations there, it may help you .
For me, I'm using CM11, no additional tweaks for kernel or anything else, just CM11 was good enough for me. I can play Dead Trigger 2 without frame drops, listen to FLAC audio in Poweramp without issues and watch heavy videos on MX Player.
Also boot time is ≈20 seconds, so I found this to be my favorite setup .

Hi, this is a friendly request for the senior devs on this forum. I am actually a noob when it comes to kernel compilation. So I wanted to ask if anyone here has already compiled or is willing to compile the latest stock kernel (from 3.6.1) with no other features except kcal controls. Because me and other OP2 users feel that battery life is best on stock kernel but the washed out display is absolutely disgusting. Also if it's not possible just us know, thanks in advance!

Did you try boeffla's kernel? gives much better battery life than stock for me (1/3 longer, in any scenario i tested it).
If you still want to have stock kernel here are the kcal commits. just set up Virtualbox Ubuntu, set up build environment , download official op kernel source (the 6.0.0 version!) and cherry-pick the commits (google it).
If the effort is not worth it, use boeffla's or stock without Kcal.
I can try to help you if you're stuck, but mind that i'm just starting with compiling stuff myself.

Yeah man I have tried boeffla. Performance is okay but battery isn't as good as stock imho. Maybe my settings affected it. Can you tell me which version of boeffla you use and what settings so maybe I can replicate your results. Thanks man.

Sure, i use boeffla 2.4-beta5, interactive battery extreme governor (u can tweak max frequency on little to 1200mhz), set little cores (i use 2, you can set it to 3-4 for more performance) set big cores to min0, max0 (if you need power to play games etc. set to min0 max 1-2) GPU underclocked to 27mhz, boost disabled, governor adreno (or powersave, might gives lags)
Further i installed xposed, greenify, amplify (there is a free version, but u have to compile it by yourself--> easiest with android studio).
And i followed this thread to maximize my battery life.
Tried several rom and kernel combinations, with this setup i get a sot of 5-6h with 48h of not charging or 7-8h in less than 24h. But on Lineage 13 its even better... (trying to compile a custom oxygenos, debloated, without playstore, F2FS capable right now but not able to activate F2FS)
If you're interested in the ext4 image, tell me (its untested though).

Damn dude these settings sound a bit extreme doesn't your phone lag like hell lol. And oh hey that sounds really interesting! Is it based off 3.6.1? And what kernel have you implemented it with. Right now I'm testing HalogenOS (loving it so far) but when I feel like switching again I would love to try your build. Link me!

I don't even have microlags (with other kernels and this settings it lags like hell, idk why boeffla doesn't)
However, app opening speed and switching between apps is a bit slower than usual).
Idk what the official source's base is (i guess 3.5.8) as i could'nt boot it up yet. Kernel is original kernel (with F2FS activated by me), i'll change this when it boots with f2fs.
I'll send you the link when i have time
