Adreno drivers from preview 3 - Nexus 6 General

Hello i used an old zip file for adreno drivers to pack preview 3 drivers, that are different from aosp one,i flashed on my nexus 6 and i notice improved battere life, not sure if placebo, try it just flash and reboot
https://www.dropbox.com/s/6dzh7gmjy3swmg0/UPDATE-adreno-07 Aug 14.zip?dl=0

I'll give it a try. Thanks.

I flashed the zip on my Nexus 4, i find curious why my device didn't end on bootloop (i had a backup just in case), but i also find it now slightly faster than before. Thanks for the zip

Believe me, i was stunned as you now, when my actual Chroma ROM 5.1.1 booted normally without problems, all files correctly installed
Inviato dal mio Nexus 4 con Tapatalk 2

installed this on my nexus 5 several weeks ago, it made it feel ever so quicker..

They may use a single driver like Intel. One driver supports multiple HW versions but only parts supported by that HW get utilized.

Here is a little battery life info since flashing just for others to compare. LeanKernel + unencrypted on stock 5.1.1 Project Fi ROM.
73% left - Full charge was 28hrs, 44min ago roughly.
cell stand by 9%
Google Music 5%
wifi 5%
Phone idle 3%
Screen 1% SOT = 18min 0s
Google Play Services 1%
My phone is mostly portable email/music, and this is a holiday so not a lot of SOT since last charge. I may see how long I can go till I do need a charge and not top it off tonight.

So I can flash this if I'm on a developer preview 3 rom?

You may not need to, you may already have them as you are running M.

Just got my Nexus 7 -- should I update to 4.2.1 from 4.1.2?

EDIT: I'm transforming this thread into a poll. Please see posts #12, 13, and 14 for details.
Hi guys! I just got my Nexus 7 yesterday. I'm really loving the seamless, fast experience in pretty much every app I try. However, the device shipped with Android 4.1.2 onboard, and the update to 4.2.1 has been rearing its head periodically. My question is: should I accept the update or not?
Normally I would accept it without a second thought, but Phil has said a couple times that he hasn't had a good experience with 4.2.x on the Nexus 7. I also will probably end up rooting, unlocking, and flashing custom ROM's. I say "probably" because I've enjoyed the practice on my EVO LTE for about half a year now, but I haven't found too much reason to do so on my N7 yet.
So, to update or not to update? That is the question. Also, if the answer is no, is there a way of disabling the update pop-ups? Thanks in advance. I look forward to many a good time with you guys in here.

What I'm using:
- HTC EVO 4G LTE (black): LazyPanda S-Off currently running MeanBean
- Google Nexus 7 (32 GB, WiFi only): currently running stock 4.1.2
- Lenovo IdeaPad U300s Ultrabook (2nd-gen Intel Core i5, 128 GB SSD): dual-booting Windows 7 and Hexxeh's build of Chromium OS...with some Linux somewhere in its future
yea go for it...
first thing i did to mine, then install a ROM to make it stable LoL
Yes you should update your N7.

I'm loving 4.2.1 with franco kernel #38
Smooth and powerful without neutering my N7 upwards to 11 hours "screen on" time light use.
Before you install any apps, update to 4.1.2.

Bought my Nexus 7 one afternoon and when it started to sniff out the wifi at home, the update was offered already. I looked around for awhile knowing how my old android "prototype" phone, Galaxy 5 went haywire after upgrading from 2.1 to 2.2. I've read a blog about the upgrade screwing up Bluetooth controllers for the nexus 7...but what the heck, I got it anyway.
now I've been using an Xbox 360 usb via OTG and I don't notice anything out of the ordinary. Dunno about the bluetooth controllers though, didn't try and won't (that's one more battery management I'm going to worry about
Don't update! It has a battery draining problem and and also a bluetooth problem (maybe even more bugs)! Wait until Android 4.2.2 or 5.0 comes out, it will be much better!

Mine works fine. Bluetooth works with my speaker (and headphones) and battery life is no different than under 4.1.*

I would update all the Apps now running stock 4.1.2 first, and, consider doing the easiest ones (for me, YMMV) by unlocking the bootloader, rooting the device, install a Custom Recovery along with Busybox.
Reboot & let it run smooth to be sure, run a TB backup and then do a full Backup (I used CWM) - and store those safely away first. Run some benchmark for scores using Quadrant Std. etc. as your baseline for reference.
Then, do the 4.2.1 OTA upgrade or alternate methods (via flashing, etc.)
Reboot & go thru initial setup as everything would be wiped clean, setup account & do the restoration (plus, root & unlock & custom recovery) and decide for yourself after using it as to whether you are happy and/or running into issues. Check your benchmark scores as well as Apps to see how they perform. Make a full Backup & store an extra copy away (mine go to the server at home.) Your next step would then be to "experiment" with various kernels & full custom Rom under 4.1.2
If you do all these, you can easily switch back & forth as necessary - or, in my case - rolled back to 4.1.2 with numerous tweaks: 720 video, Flash Player 11.x with Boat Browser & tablet UI, etc. and working OTG (with the upgrade notification disabled/turned off.) Everything else that I see in 4.2.x that I would run and use are working great under 4.1.2 as switching users on the go isn't a big deal - waiting for 4.3 or 5.0 as more annoying "bugs" would be resolved by other daring "pioneers"
The only problem I have with 4.2.1 is that audio trough bluetooth is choppy when WiFi is in use. Other then that I don't have any issues, and according to Battery Widget Reborn app my battery usually lasts for 1 day 11 hrs.
Battery use right now: 77% full, 10h 35m on battery, 59% screen on.
If you're not using bluetooth audio heavily, or can live without it (or alternatives), yes, by all means, go ahead and update.
OK, I'm gonna transform this into a poll. Should I:
a) stay on 4.1.2 and wait for a future update,
b) update to 4.2.1, or
c) do some kind of hackery (please describe in your reply)?
Like this post if you think I should STAY ON 4.1.2 for now and wait for a future update.

Need some opinions..

Hi guys, I'm currently using a GT-I9300 and I would just like to ask if N4 is a good upgrade? Is the battery life longer even when rooted and does the stock charger work like a charm unlike the S3? Need some inputs (software, crispness, performance etc.) Thanks a lot!

If you root it and flash a good kernel than the battery life and the screencolors are much better. I run Franco kernel myself and i think it is one of the best kernels out there and gives you a 1,5 to 2 hours extra screenontime. But there are other ones as well. Best thing is to try them out and keep the one you like most. But in the kernel lies the biggest gain in battery and colors, not in the rom`s. And the N4 has no bloatware and gets updated to the latest firmware first.

In my opinion it's a good upgrade.
Battery life is longer if you choose right kernel, people can get 5+ hours screen on time on wifi and 4+ on 3G.
Charger works like a charm, no one has issue with the charger yet.
Software is definitely better on N4, it's pure google experience, faster and smoother. No battery drain issue on CM based or non-stock rom. You won't notice any lag on this device.
Camera is a bit disappointing tho, if you took so much pictures with your phone.
You won't see any "not working" list or "known issue" on any custom rom here as long as it's android based.
Overall N4 is better than i9300.

Just to add to all, almost every rom for n4 is bugless so you can try all and they will be for daily use. (maybe some exceptions there).

and just look at the previous Nexus phones they have longer life than any other main flagship phones from different companies...always get updated and development still going strong for those phones
For the sake of money I would say no: you could get some more battery life and stock Android, but on the other hand you can just install CM 10 for example and the camera will be worse.

If you want to enjoy the timely Android update, then got Nexus 4, if not, I think there is no need to get rid of the S3.
I've been hearing good reviews about n4 and for me, my s3's battery life is getting worse (im on cm10.1) and nexus 5 is still due at fall (according to rumors)

ART vs Dalvik Experiment : Suggestions welcome!

So, now that ART is becoming more of a stable thing that works on more apps AND dual boot is available... I was thinking of doing an experiment of the same rom with all the same settings dual booting with 1 running Dalvik, and 1 running ART. Looking for suggestions on what kinds of tests on what rom(s) / kernels / mods you'd be interested in seeing?
Sounds like a great idea. I'd say test with the stock kernel to get a good baseline then maybe see if there is a difference with custom kernels. Benchmarks don't seem to show any increases with art if anything they're lower. But to me art seems smoother transitioning between apps and basic ui usage. I'd say also throw in the moto x dalvik tweak.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
ART was stable since day 1. It were the apps that needed to support it...
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Yea, and I was thinking now with screen recording, it might be a good way to see it in action directly. So I guess the first option would be to be completely stock / odexed / etc?
I agree about the ART stability, but the end result for the normal user was the same - issues.
Only thing I would worry about is the overhead of the screen recorder might impact performance. I know on my pc screen recording had a significant impact on performance.

Ahh. Good point. What about screen recording via PC + adb? Haven't looked into it yet so just spitballing...

No, they solved several critical bugs in 4.4.1 (check change log). And I am sure some remains.

No cpu core ever turns off

I'm on elementalx. Does anyone have the same issue?
They do, it's just a cosmetic issue with the app. This has been discussed in the Elemental X thread.

That's what happens when you release the phone 2 months later in europe I guess. Nobody has a clue about anything anymore. Thanks for clearing things up.
this is how it should be by default. As I understood, Google made some changes in kernel sources, all kernels are now displayed active, however, they are not. Google decided to do so, because it is more convenient to have all kernels active, they can just boost up when it needed to be done, so device works much faster and at the same time it does not affect battery life
The cpus dont go offline.

Do you think MM will ever be released for ZF2 with Intel SOC?

I mean ZF2 with Snapdragon SOC are already on beta for MM. But not a peep about Intel SOC? So what do you think?
There is already Cyanogenmod 13 for zf2, working 99%, without help from Asus.

Cm13 (and all custom rom) has a big big problem with signal drop, so it's unusable

It's actually not a big problem as such, signal loss affects people differently on cm13 like for me i only lose cell signal when i'm on wifi for a long period of time like past an hour non-stop and once i turn wifi off it automaticaly comes back. So it's pretty usable.

Beanstalk, Temasek doesnt have signal recovery bug.
Testing all current builds of fresh customs: i use to go to basement lvl of my office building 3x-4x times a day, and i know what im talking about. Those two are good to go, but classic cm nightlies, DU, echoe and early borets had signal drops from time to time...
551ML 4gb 64gb 2 sims active + zenwatch.
Think? No
Hope? Yes
And for those talking about CM, that 1% that does not work includes thing like FM Radio.
If after-market apps don't pick the Intel chipset (which btw, intel announced will drop), it wil never be supported.
A shame really, Intel got a really good thing, better than the tries of NVidia and Mediatek, but I guess it never really took on other manufacturers. Even if they release the source code, it will never be trully complete, they never release all the code and something always gets in the way.
Let's hope for MM as the swan song for the Zenfone 2, stable if possible with security for one more year at least
we already have Asus word. just wait, no need to rush.
Q2 have couple months left
Don't care as long as we have strong dev team. CM 13 all the way.
Will come, just not sure when
Anyone noticed that Intel dropped their mobile phone processor's development recently?
This is the reason why there is no sense for Asus/Intel to further develop Android for Intel SoC.

I have had a few minor signal issues with CM13. When signal is lost and then returns it sometimes gets confused - reports no signal in battery stats and has mobile standby drain, even though phone and data connection are connected and working. However, generally CM13 has been stable enough for me to use as a daily driver. The reason I returned to stock was battery life - just couldn't get reliable battery life on CM, often down to zero by mid-afternoon.
Sent from my ASUS_Z008D using XDA-Developers mobile app
Cm13 is super now , trick is not to flash every night but every 3 nights , for better battery .
Not bothered what Asus do now while we have cm to be truthful , Asus stripped or whatever is great on battery but pi553s me off on web experience , hitting a link ..only for the page to shoot up while still loading and opens another unintended link instead ..pah
Cm is more fluent lately
