[Q&A] Bootloader DRAM listing? - X Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The bootloader shows this:
"DRAM: 2048MB Samsung S8 SDRAM DIE=4Gb"
What does DIE=4Gb mean?

4 gigabit NAND.
I'm not quite certain how it works, but 4 gigabits = 512MB. Given that the RAM more than likely is on one chip on the motherboard, I didn't quite understand what's going on. The S8 note is interesting, since phones with only 1024MB of RAM often show S4

SGS3 vs HTC One X RAM

Hello guys... I'm galaxy S3 user. I just want to know that Galaxy s3 & htc one x has same 1 GB ram but for galaxy s3 its showing 778 mb ram in hardware information but htc showing proper 1 gb ram. why this is? Infact, i noticed all htc have same ram as in hardware information bar. Mean s3 have less ram acording to htc one x?
Some RAM is reserved for camera, hardware decoder, etc. I doubt HTC used separate memory chip for each of these, so ONE X software must be reporting false values.
BTW, there are 833 mbytes of RAM available on latest JB leaks, and enthusiasts are looking for a way to increase this number further.
How dare you mention that name here
Be gone foul beast, back to the lair I say, back!
Just enjoy your phone.

Reserved for other functions
Stacks with my previous memory changes: total memory: 857mB for now.
Perseus kernel dev succeeded to increase more rams at jb ;D
system used
Thanx all for giving information. But some says that ram reserved for system & some says reserved for camera & hardware.. hhhmmm then what about htc ram? Is it shows proper 1GB ram included reserved system ram or excluded system ram as sgs3 has.??? By mean as shows 778 mb out of 1GB then where is 222 mb ram which is left. Is 222 mb ram reserved for system use?
One X has more free Ram but everyone who tried both says S3 uses it's Ram better, and the US proves bigger isn't always better.

You are wrong. This has nothing to do with the phones themselves but chip manufacturers. Look at the HTC One X LTE versions, they only have 600mb of RAM.
Yes the International version has close to 1GB of RAM free. This is mostly due to Tegra 3 having dedicated video ram to their GPU where the Exynos and S4 do not.

aahh.. means s3 does not have video ram???
Yes, we can squeeze out as much ram as possible but I believe a good portion of it will always be reserved for hardware.
I did a lot of studies with my US One X and the International One X.
Anyways, to answer your question it is the Tegra 3 chip set that has 1GB of RAM, it's like that on the Asus transformer also.
Compare the US One S and One X, you see the same Ram usage pretty much and same SoC. But the international with Tegra 3 and everything else that uses a Tegra 3 from what I have seen (there might be some with 4glte radios that require ram also) has 1GB of RAM.

it mean tegra 3 chip is more faster phone than galaxy s3.??? bcoz tegra 3 chip has 1 GB of RAM.

No.
The S3 has 1gb of ram too.

No, not at all. RAM, CPU and (if the gui is properly programmed) GPU can all affect how your phone functions and feels. The S3 uses a more better engineered chip set than the Tegra in the CPU and GPU department.
Most importantly is software though. As the way things are, if Android doesn't figure out a way to optimize their OS to universally work for any kind of hardware it might lose out to WP8.
Not in the hacking department though since WP8 will be closed source.

@SlimJ87D
thnx for giving kind information.... I respect your answere..
Tegras don't have dedicated GPU RAM, they don't differ to the Exynos in the way they handle that. The reason is purely software based, and some SoCs having reserved memory spaces for internal functions. I have now 856mB useable on my kernel for example.
The leaked jb firmwares gives you 833mb ram.

See that would make sense if every Tegra device from different companies like Asus, htc and Motorola, etc would have different ram uses since they all build their roms with custom ui, etc. Every company has their own custom kernels as well. But that is not the case, or is it a giant coincidence most if not all the Tegra devices show .950 gb free of memory? Including the Nexus 7.

Sorry but no you don't know what you are talking about, Nvidia does the basic platform kernel for their SoC, the manufacturers don't do anything more than adapt it. ROM also doesn't have anything to do with it

[Q] buying s4?

Hello,
i want a amoled screen for my next phone, with complete options, infrared, nfc, wirless charging (it optional but exist), 2 Gb og ram, removable battery, sd card slot, and for its accesoiry.. etc
i think that s4 answer to my needs.
But, i hesitate because of stocks updates, its 2013 models, and become old!
My question is if s4 is still worth this position on the 2015, and if there is equivalent new phone (full option) to him, for 300 euro budget
Thank for your answers and sorry for english

GT-I9515 (GALAXY S4 VE) in my opinion :highfive:.
Well, the S4 GT-I9506 seems to have hardware that can somewhat match the latest models
S4 GT-I9506 specs:
Chipset: Qualcomm MSM8974 Snapdragon 800
CPU : Quad-core 2.3 GHz Krait 400
GPU : Adreno 330
Internal 16/32 GB, 2 GB RAM
And in comparison, the S5 specs:
Chipset Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801
CPU Quad-core 2.5 GHz Krait 400
GPU Adreno 330
Internal 16/32 GB, 2 GB RAM
As you can see, there is not a huge difference. The newer chipset model and 200Hz more processing power. But I don't think those 200Hz will make any big impact on performance. If it's going to be any performance differences then it's because of the newer chipset and maybe ram speeds.
Though the normal S4 GT-I9505 is still a good competitor today. Many people still use it as you can probably see by the activity on this forum.
It can still keep up with today's requirements. And it will for another 1-2 years at least.
If developers made apps only for the high-end smartphones then only those who can afford those kind of phones can use the app. And that's just not profitable for them, right?

What Chipset Does My Phone Have?

I recently purchased a Zenfone 2 Laser from Amazon. I know there are two base models, a 2Gb of RAM with a Snapdragon 410, and a 3gb of RAM Snapdragon 615 Chipset phone. The 3GB version comes in a 16GB and 32GB model. From what the details on Amazon listed I have the 3GB RAM, 16gb storage version of the 615. Doing a quick check through the app Droid Info (I know there are better ones, just first that popped up), I noticed that it lists the chipset as the MSM 8939/Snapdragon 615, but it has a clock of 1.5ghz, and it also lists the board as a msm8916, which is a Snapdragon 410.
So which is it? The phone is listed as having 8 cores as well. So I'm inclined to think it is the 615 not the 410.
Thoughts?
Mine mentions this as well and it was a little confusing but there are 8 cores so I believe Asus may have used the same boards with different processors attached.

S7 Edge real Ram/Storage size?

Hi
just ran CpuZ on my Exynos model and it indicates:
Total Ram 3580MB (1190 available at the time of the test)
Internal storage 24.86GB
I know about the 1000 vs 1024 story, but even with that in mind, those figures look quiet far from the numbers announced (4GB & 32GB) by Samsung???

I'd also like an explanation. I've no doubt there are 4gb of memory soldered onto the motherboard, but I'd like to know why only 3.5gb are reported available.
In 32-bit days, before Lollipop and ArmV8 architecture, devices always reported a maximum of 3.5gb available because that was all that could be used on a 32-bit system. I'm wondering if this ram reporting issue is due to some kind of 32-bit limitation on our 64-bit devices.
If anyone really knows the technical reasons for this, I'd like to understand what's going on, just to satisfy my curiosity.

Is some of the RAM reserved for the graphics chip, like a PC has system RAM and video RAM for the GPU?
Some of the RAM around 512mb is allocated to the GPU, and for the storage, 8gb is used for android system partition

Blackberry KEYone Black Edition (India) UFS storage and LPDDR4 or not?

Hey guys,
Really need a favor. For those who own a Blackberry KEYone Black Edition (Indian variant), can you check and see if it uses an LPDDR4 RAM and UFS based storage. Blackberry doesn't seem to reveal that part
You can check that info using the DevCheck application, under the hardware section, or a similar app that can tell the real hardware info. Reason m asking is because the original, silver KEYone uses the slower LPDDR3 and eMMc storage.
I want to urgently know if its just a space increase or that Blackberry has also changed the type of memory...no one seems to even talk about it or mention it. It's really urgent guys and won't take more than few minutes to check that.
Nah, i don't think so. Since 625 doesn't support LPDDR4 and UFS 2.0, even if it supports - the higher RAM frequency won't help much, small margin will be advantaged for the GPU.
The 625 isn't that a new SoC at all since it's been released in 2016, using older DSP resulting in LTE Cat 7 300Mbps at max too, shame :'(. I wonder if the KeyOne is LTE Cat 9 450Mbps, but i don't reckon so.
