How delete downloaded OTA - Galaxy Tab 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys. My tab automatically downloaded Lollipop OTA firmware and It shows me constantly a message suggesting to update the firmware. I've 4.4.2 rooted device. Now I've disabled automatic OTA download, but how can I delete the downloaded firmware and stop this annoying message? thanks
PS the /cache folder is empty

Did you check /data/fota/ (or /cache/fota/ for that matter)? Also is that an AT&T model, because if it is I'd really appreciate a copy of the OTA file

I'm not sure, but I think if you have the stock ROM and kernel you would still be able to receive OTA updates. However installing them might unroot your phone.

hi. i rooted my phone and managed to download the MEA to MG9 OTA update, so i might help. download the cofface recovery from http://link.and-share.ir/uploads/cofface-S4-recovery-en-V3-0-zip.zip and flash with odin. then boot into recovery (turn off the phone then hold volume up and home and power) then select unroot from recovery. then turn off your phone and flash the official status mod http://d-h.st/1lt. then reboot and install the OTA. after updating you can root again just like i did,
have you tried the "full unroot" option in chainfires superSU?
easier than flashing a new recovery...

[Q] Where's is OTA file stored?

Hi
Today an OTA was available on my rooted G900f.
System status is set to normal, so no problem downloading the update. I have custom recovery and of course knox 0x1.
If possible I want to update through mobile Odin and then point on the update file, but where is the file stored?
I've checked in the /cache but in there, there's only some empty folders.
I want to use the above method, because I don't know which firmware fike to download on sammobile for a Danish G900f and second, a don't want to erase all data on the phone, if possible of course

Its stored in the Cache afaik but you need root to access/see it.
I'm rooted and browsing with root Explorer, but nothing is in there?

Best thing to do is to flash the whole rom with Mobile Odin Pro (enable root and other 2 options) and check wipe data and the cache.
Dont you guys have in Denmark have the NEE (Nordic) rom, look for it on Sammobile/firmwares

The latest NEE is the NE4 on Sammobile.com/firmwares, but you can also flash the BTU NG2 or Dutch unbranded NG9 roms with Odin 3.09, they contain the Danish language as well and will work fine.
Ok thanks ?
I will look into it when i'm home again

After root, it's ONLY possible to update the firmware via Kies and/or Odin. It's NOT possible to update via FOTA!

Use Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app > Menu > 'Firmware Browser' to find and download the correct firmware for your device, and flash via Odin.
No data will be lost, so don't worry.
Thank for answering ?
But will i lost my root when i update my phone??

hi ,
in short.....
you cannot "receive " OTA update when you are rooted .
(Sometimes it might download Ota, but will not install )
To update software, the correct way is to unroot first ( via Super user app ..etc )
flash new updated , Rom via Odin and root again ! ( make sure its correct Rom, for your device )
Above procedure is quick and fast ( eg. under 30 min ) and its better ,than to "sit " and wait .............for
months for service provider to "push " update .
good luck

No need to un-root, just flash the stock firmware for your device via Odin.
Root will be lost, as the rooting files is stored in the system partition, and when you flash the stock firmware via Odin, the current system partition will be replaced by a new one.
But your data + your apps will be reserved (as they are stored in the userdata partition, and this partition is intact while flashing).

Unusual note 4 firmware update

I have a rooted note 4(so i dont get OTA updates) and kies showed me a firmware update which was 1.8gb download and extracted to a 3.2 gb md5 file.
i upgraded my phone without modifying root.
My firmware is still at 5.0.1
nothing has changed except the sure thing:- root vanishing up and samsung blotware apps returning.
Don't understand what was the update.
Also, now with no root my OTA still doesnt work and shows an error message that i have modified firmware.
is that because of knox??

I doubt this will work mainly because rooting trips KNOX which is an e-fuse so that means that if tripped there's no going back to Official status . You can always install the latest firmwares with ODIN though.

I rooted my phone due to ES FILE Manager permission, i was unable to cut / paste any file from internal memory to external using es file manager. is there any other file manager who doesn't requires root access to cut/paste/delete data from internal/external memory?
