Best way to save battery in low signal areas - Galaxy S6 Edge+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all. I had a situation last night where i was in a low signal area and my battery was just staining like a mofo on standby. Is they're an app or setting you would recommend to prevent this from happening?

Is your 4G a battery killer?

I tested the following:
Turning 4G on in a full bar area and letting it stand idle for one hour.
I lost about 20% battery in one single hour.
The phone had the screen off, wifi off and all apps but the essential ones off.
On 3G i lost about 5%/hour.
4G is supposed to be an "always-on" service with such a battery drainage?
I was sure it was supposed to be a power efficient service, like WiFi or at least like 3G.
Note the phone also gets a little hot after one hour if being idle with 4G on.
I wonder if other people are seeing the same results?

Ummmm...
Wow...
ummmm...
4g = bad for battery
OK...Thanks!
I really wanted someone else to test this and report back.
Maybe it is just my unit or the ROM that i am using?

LoL sorry brotha' I was just messing around
You gotta admit though, you set yourself up for that one
In all seriousness, 4g is an absolute battery killer! ESPECIALLY if your in an area where you don't get good 4g signal.
If your in a good area and surrounded by 4g then the phone doesn't really have to work at all to keep the signal BUT if your in an area where there's not much 4g signal, like most of America, then it will destroy your battery life (and make your phone hot) because your phone keeps searching for it over and over which chews up the battery. I would ALWAYS keep 4g off unless your downloading something until the 4g becomes more expanded across America. Also download the app battery indicator and make sure you keep track of your battery temperature with it in the status bar. I never let my battery get above 99*F since that will cause permanent damage. In your first post you were talking about losing 20% in an hour while on 4g which would alot of sense since the phone (on 3g) is only slated to get 4-5 hours of talk time, with 4g on always searching for signal the 20% loss seems about right.
Sorry again for messing with you earlier
np.
I am with full 4g bar when testing, so it is not a signal issue.
Yeah, it's a huge battery drainer. I forgot I turned it on in town, took a nap and had 85% battery left, fell asleep and took a 2 hour nap, woke up and it was dead dead mofo dead.
So yeah, it's a battery killer.
Good thing you can barely use the main advertising feature of this phone.

CDMA Hero battery life...

I've noticed my Hero getting horrible battery life lately. Around 8 or 9 hours with zero phone calls and only running facebook or twitter every few hours. I have calibrated the battery by wiping the battery data through the recovery image several times, but that hasn't really improved the situation. I do have a theory though and I'm just wondering if my line of thinking is correct:
I live on the outskirts of my service area. I.E. barely any service at all really. And I spend most of my time there. (Unemployment sucks) I'm thinking that because my phone is constantly losing and reaquiring signal that this would be draining my battery. So there really isn't anything wrong with my phone, its just the fact that I'm just barely within range of a cell tower. Am I off base? Should I be looking for another solution to this problem?
Thanks for any thoughts you can add.

Yeah that alone will do it. Go to settings, about phone, battery, click on the different options, one of them will show your time without signal, cell standby maybe? What is your time/percent without signal?
Sent from my HERO200 using Tapatalk
Cell standby is at 62% for the day, Phone Idle is 36% and Display is 2%.
So, does cell standby = time without signal or are they two different things.

Two different things.
Cell standby=amount of time the radio is idle.
Time without signal= time spent searching for a signal.
Ah ha! Time without signal is at 55%. So I was right, it is not the phone, just the area I'm in.

Yeah, that pretty much is why your battery is dead.
My advice?
Airrave, or airplane mode.
I'm not familiar with Airrave, but putting the phone in airplane mode makes it pretty useless. I'm just glad to know that once I'm working and out of the house again my phone won't be crapping out on me by the middle of the afternoon.

Basically call sprint and ***** about how you don't have signal at home.
If you ***** hard enough they'll send you a mini cell tower that you hook into broadband.

Do you have difficulties getting a good signal in your area?
In my experience, high battery drain due to cell standby happened when I left my S4 in that weird part of my room with terrible cell reception overnight.

thks for your reply but my s4 is live demo unit which means like wi-fi enabled tablet so there 's no cellular mode. So the software keeps searching for network and I want to disable it. Flight mode or other apps didnt help
There is a power saving toggle try to use it (its in settings... My device... Power saving mode)

MOTO G4 Battery drain

My moto G4 has had some issues with battery lately on custom rom with and without root aswell as on marshmallow and nougat with and without root. is this the battery itself?
My friend bought the same phone on the exact same day as me and his battery lasts way longer.
Also my phone says in the battery settings i only have used 20% while i have used 60%
Any one knows what i can do to fix this?
Sorry for not providing much info i dont know wich files i should show you guys.
It wouldn't hurt to replace your battery. You should be able to get a battery replacement if you send it to a Motorola service center, or buy a new battery online (only $20 I think).
Even though you've rooted Motorola should take your phone.
Finally, would you mind postings screenies of battery graphs?
Edit: $13.99 for replacement battery, iFixit has a good battery guide: http://www.witrigs.com/oem-battery-for-motorola-moto-g4-plus

Sorry lost all screenshots because i just factory wiped my phone i have noticed in safe mode my phone's battery lasts as long as it should.
But after just factory wiping it it still drains (not one single app installed) could this be due to poor signal?

Hmm... do you have location/bluetooth/wifi on all the time? How bad is your signal (poor signal will quickly drain your battery)?
Is your bootloader unlocked? If so, please root and install "Wakelock Detector", and see which apps are holding your phone awake.

I really don't know how to go with this- I don't understand how safe mode fixed the issue. How bad is the drain? (how much % p/hour standby, with screen off?)
You said you've used custom ROMs and root. Please root and install Wakelock Detector.
Also, yes, poor signal will result in drain, but for me it may drain 1% every 20-30 minutes. I don't know how bad it is with you.

That sounds pretty normal with WiFi and bad signal. On average I get 6 hours SoT, but I always enable Airplane mode in school (I'm on T-mo, lol), and when I get out signal is always pretty solid.
Also, WiFi, location, and Bluetooth are all disabled unless at home.
With really poor/no signal I might crack 4.5 hours of SoT, but then again I've disabled 4 cores of my CPU and WiFi so there's that.

[Q] Quick Battery Drain While On A Call

Has anyone else noticed the battery draining incredibly fast while on a call? My battery went from 81% to 67% after a 15 minute call. The battery doesn't go down anywhere near that pace during any other function I've used it for so far. In fact, if I don't make or receive any calls, it lasts all day. I checked battery usage and it was only at 2%, which is definitely not right and there was nothing else showing up under usage that could have been the culprit. I've had the phone for 1 1/2 weeks now and it is definitely the only time it happens.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?
What network?

Sprint
Check how strong your coverage is. Sometimes weak signal will drain your battery considerably faster.

Someone else mentioned that as well, but I had full bars even it happened. What's even more weird... When I only have 2 bars, the battery drops less while on a call. It's the strangest thing I've come across on the phone. I love everything else about it and I'm going to keep it regardless. I appreciate your input! Hopefully someone else has this experience and can find a cause. I thought I was very knowledgeable on Android and had seen everything since I've been on it since the original G1 (which I still have lol), but it's a new one for me. I also don't get the complaints about the camera...I was in the backyard taking pictures today, just test it out, and it's definitely better than my S7. Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to respond and help with ideas and if you think of another one, let me know!
