In the interest of branching out of the main thread, I thought I'd start a thread regarding battery life- how many hours are you guys getting? For those who have somewhat decent battery life, what tweaks/settings are you using?
I went and disabled background data syncing hoping this would at least help improve battery life only to find that even idle (with no real use at all), this thing eats battery like there is no tomorrow.
I think with super light usage the most I've gotten is about 4-5 hours. There HAS to be a way to improve on this. I can never walk around without my charger in my bag- that is just crazy.
So any ideas or suggestions would be great! (By the way, I'm running Dexter's latest rom on top of eLocity's official firmware update).
I'm posting 4 hours 54 minute uptime right now with a quick 10 minute game of fruit slice, light to moderate web browsing, and moderate to heavy instant messaging. I have 29% battery left.
I generally set my apps to sync no more frequently than 30 minutes at the least. I turn the screen off when I walk away to do something. Other than that the tablet stays running on my couch side all day.
I have also seen it go for days on standby mode without going dead. I'm happy with the battery life. My Archos isn't much better, and is much less powerful of a device.
I'm also on ElociMod (which is based off the newest firmware... )
cant get more than 4 hours no matter what i do. running dexter's modc
We might be able to help the battery life using some clever tricks with SetCPU. I know it helped on my Pandigital Novel, and 2/3 on that device was used to power the screen, as opposed to ~1/3 for the processor. I'm gonna guess it might be the complete opposite of that on the A7.

I don't think SetCPU works on the A7 or any other Tegra2 at least not yet.

It doesn't... it will FC.
CPU Tuner installs and runs. It shows a min of 260 MHz and a max of 1000 MHz, and it has profiles based on battery charge. I just installed it, so I don't know what to expect.
I wanted to resurrect this thread and post my experience with A7 battery life.
I am running Dexter 1.2, brightness at 35%, WiFi always on, Bluetooth mostly off, screen timeout at 2 minutes. Syncing three mail accounts, weather and Google calendar. Limited or no background syncing of other apps.
My typical day with the device consists of;
a full charge in the morning
3 to 4 hours of standby time
30-45 minutes of web use
another 3 to 4 hours of standby
3 to 4 hours of heavy web, texting, reading, and games
I place the A7 back on the charger at night and it usually has about 20%-25% charge left.
I figure I am getting about 4-5 hours of use and close to 8 hours of standby each day fairly easily.
This battery life is very comparable to my Droid 2 Global.
The ipad battery has more than 4 times the capacity of the A7, but only twice the run time.
Hi
I've recently purchased a Note 4 and it was already updated to Lollipop (currently running N910FXXU1BOC3). I've owned a Galaxy S2 and a Note 3.
This Note 4 is a marvellous phone but is BY FAR the worst in terms of battery consumption when using it. I'm not sure if this is somewhat normal or my phone is defective but here are some examples.
- When I commute to work (about 45 mins door to door) I use the phone to listen music, browse on facebook, check email. Normal stuff. When I'm at the office after 45 mins I'm easily at 87/88% battery remaining. The Note 3 was probably in worst cases at 92% or even more.
- Filming a video (at an average resolution) for around 30 mins sucked probably 30% of my battery (I can't remember exactly) and the phone was very hot at the end.
- When browsing on internet or doing "standard" stuff, I can easily see the percentage going down by numbers. It's probably 1% every 2/3 mins.
- Right now I'm at 81% of battery: battery stats says about 12 hours remaining, 2h 51mins with battery.
- GSAM Battery monitor says an average duration of 13:56. Average values are duration 23h 34m (11h 35m active) and screen 3h 28m (4h 48m Max).
I'm quite experienced and I checked pretty much everything and I don't see drains. In fact the phone does keep a very good battery when it's not used [by the way, by the time I wrote 81% a two lines above, it's now at 80% just because I checked battery stats...how much, a couple of minutes?], there does not seem to be a battery drain issue. It's just sucking too much battery when using it.
Some info: location is almost always off, brightess is auto at just one step above the minimum, I use LLama to switch off wifi when not used, gmail and email are synched every few hours, facebook has no push notification active (as you see I'm quite conservative).
Do you think I have a defective model or it's normal?
thanks
Hi,
Have you tried remove the Google account, reboot the phone, add it back, reboot again?
I had the exact same problem as yours, and that little trick solved the problem.

I've done what you recommend and will check tomorrow how it goes. I trust you, even if I don't understand why an account could cause this usage...

May be there's something wrong with your unit. I get about 5 hours plus screen on time even after using the phone for like 20 hours. Usage includes mostly browsing and chatting on whatsapp.

Well, apart from GSAM I have no "battery monitor crap". I am a fairly experienced user: generally I root phones and used do install custom roms (but not - yet - on the note 4), I use Greenify, LLama and Tasker, Titanium with remote load of files...I am a computer programmer so I can say that I know this stuff. No bloatware should impact as I see stock rom phones with DOUBLE my SOT.
Your SCREAMED suggestion of reading the thread is accepted, but we're talking about 154 pages of the thread. Some people have been more useful suggesting to wipe cache (done, didn't help), to logoff/logon from Google (done, does not seem to have helped) and to wipe phone and start from scratch (NOT yet done, as I consider it as a last resource given the time it takes to reinstall everything, reconfigure stuff and so on).
I am now at 10h 27m 35s with battery with 52% (estimated 11 hours). SOT of 1h 44m. If we double that 1h 44 since we are at 52% of battery, I am still at 3h 30m. I've done mostly ordinary stuff with the phone (for example I have not used games or things like Waze who sucks battery a lot).
I think I'm going to make a call to the service center as seeing people with UP TO 11 hours make me think I have a defective unit or, worse, a defective battery.
thanks
Pretty much same problems here. Screen off at night for like 10 hours lost 12% of battery (wifi, sync, bluetooth or) And when I get things to do... I can't get more than 3 hours on screen... I tried everything possible without root and outside using battery saver, but at best 3 hours 30 minutes screen time.

if you analyze i could had more than just 5hrs SOT, but i was at work i just used my phone to text, i played Racing rivals, fb, ig, just the regular apps, instead of 1.5 day i could had 1 day and about 6+hr SOT, this phone is capable of this and much more, its just the software, but like i stated before i had done a couple of changes and these are the results, cheers
Wow.
First, an apology, I have not read that thread, my fault in thinking you were referring to another one, so my sincere apologies.
Secondarily, that thread talks about disabling services, and it can be done on rooted phones only. My phone is not rooted, and I see not rooted phones lasting twice my sot. So it's not mainly am issue with services (albeit I understand it may give you some extra juice).
However you can save the sarcasm for someone else: "get an iphone", "you don't belong to this community". Seriously, go and be this aggressive in real life, behind the screen is too easy, "bro".

bro if you wanna fix your phone problems in person, come to Miami, just let me know when, :highfive:
So Doze is supposed to minimize battery drain to almost nothing overnight or when the phone is not in use for a long time. How many people have actually experienced that? I'm not sure what to think, I lose about 1% per hour consistently overnight. That's without greenify or other battery saver methods. But it still seems excessive to me for such a hyped feature. I wonder if future hacks will be able to turn doze on in 1/2 hour instead of 1 hour. What have your experiences been?
1% per hour is pretty good. That means your phone would stay on for up to 100hrs which is more than 5 days. Are you complaining about that?

Doze only dozes applications from waking up the phone at their will, but still does periodic wakes. It will only make a big difference really if you had a misbehaving app in the first place.
Don't forget that even in the best case that Doze stops all activity from apps, you are still using power connected to the cell and or Wi-Fi, plus power to refresh the memory and other peripheral chips, so 1% an hour could be considered quite good.
Try putting the phone into flight mode over night and see if that 1% drain an hour goes, if all is well you should get around 1 or 2% power loss in 8 hours.
The other think to note is apps can bypass Doze and schedule wakeups regardless, this needs an update to the app for Marshmellow. So if you had an app that wanted to wake the phone every 10 minutes to download the latest adverts, it will stop under Marshmellow when Doze kicks in, but they could update their app to use a different API call and go back to waking the device every 10 minutes bypassing Doze. I strongly suspect that the Google Play store will start recognizing this API call and may start warning about apps that are battery drains, so the user can make a better decision, otherwise Doze will have a short term benefit as apps work around it.
Regards
Phil
Doze is working really well for me. Battery drain overnight seems to almost be non existent. I went to bed with 51% battery life on my phone. I woke up roughly 7 hours later and it was still at 51%.

that was a great explanation, also I do think 1% per hour is bad since like someone already stated that I've had phones that would drain about that without marshmallow. Also those other people who replied I would really like to know how you get such little battery drain, do you guys have a lot of apps installed? I unplugged today around 5 am and woke up around 10 am with 95%. I have about 60 apps and 3 email accounts (1 yahoo which is set to sync manually).
Personally I am trying to sort my battery issues with this phone as some are getting great battery life (5 hours sot with over 24 hours off charge) while others are barely hitting 3 hours like me. Also I would think doze would be better than what I am experiencing.
How long have you had the phone for? AFAIK it can take a few days for Doze to "learn" how to optimize (reduce) battery drain. You may find it gets better over the course of a week or so. If you check the "detailed" battery stats (click the first battery graph) you should see little to no "awake" time overnight when you'd expect Doze to kick in - e.g see this link as an example: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1wjguaIIcGgUZn7w-KXnY3MJ0qTK0rUCWiA
Otherwise try as @PhilipL suggested and run in aeroplane mode overnight.
Doze is working as advertised here. On my 5x and my N5 as well.

It could be your location and the cell signal you are receiving, sometimes even if you have a good signal you still might be evenly served by 2 or 3 masts and the phone keeps swapping between them, if you don't have too good a cell signal, the phone will be using more power during standby. The only way to tell for sure is to put the phone into flight mode overnight.
One thing to note, you will only get the maximum screen on time if you use your phone a lot, i.e. all the screen on time is used during a 12 hour day after a full charge. If you are only using say 30 minutes one day, 20 minutes the next and so on, your total on screen time achieved will be less than many are saying they get, this is because more power is spent over time on background tasks and syncing, leaving less for actual on screen time. My previous Nexus 5 for example, sometimes I would go 4 days without needing to charge it, but my actual on screen time was only an hour or so.
Perhaps crudely speaking, 1 day of very light usage may see enough battery power expended on back ground tasks to see 1 hour sacrificed of on screen time.
Usually it doesn't matter how many apps you have installed, that in itself doesn't use any battery, of course if those apps are constantly pinging back home to some server, then that is how power is used. Doze will be helping with those apps over night and other quiet periods.

Phil

Thats the thing I get about 2.5 hours sot in about 12-14 hours and have to recharge before the night is over. Of course quick charge helps but I really don't want to rely on something like that. Also I'm wondering if wifi calling on will help with battery or will it be like the iphone where it'll just drain more battery? Gonna have to play with it and see what I can improve on. Also noticed that chrome has been using about 15-25% battery on any given day. I do use it as my main browser but that still seems excessive so may try a different chrome iteration if it keeps up.
Thank you to everyone that has helped and hopefully this can be a come all thread for people with questions about or problems with Doze.

Now you need to find what is draining your battery overnight when not in Flight mode. I suspect you will find either Google Services or Google Play services not releasing the modem or something similar.
When I installed Cerebus it asked to turn off battery optimization. My guess is that is Doze could be wrong though. It was the only app that asked. So far battery life is better then the N6 that I had a Amplify running on.

Might be a standard if everything worked perfectly, which I have yet to see. With this new architecture, you are guaranteed it. I love it.
I lost about 1% in 3 hours last night with WiFi calling on. Maybe it has to do with poor coverage. Last night I did end up with 3.5 hours sot which I think was my highest. So in the past few days I have factory reset and turned on WiFi calling.
Now I need to optimize my browser usage, chrome was talking more than screen was ~20%. Using #nochromo now and not much better.
Battery went from 66 to 64% last night in 8 hours.. #dozeisdope

Hi guys,
It's the first day of running Android 7.0, upgraded last night, off the charger at 10 AM. Now it's 2:40 in the evening and I have 28% left with 2h30m SOT till now, so I guess a ~3H SOT till the phone turns off. I find this pretty bad.
Are you experiencing the same problems? What's your first day SOT with N?
LOL!! give it time breh...... give your phone and kernel a few cycles to see how things go. Maybe report back on the weekend. That should be enough time for it to adjust to your usage
This helps me:
1. Flash stock recovery
2. Make a factory reset (save your files)
3. Setup your N6P
4. Enjoy
I am experiencing low battery life too. But that was the case on Marshmallow too until I installed the ElementalX kernel. It's an impressive kernel for sure, even when I installed it plain, without any customization of my own when it asks when installing it.
Looking to go back to elemental but only after giving Nougat's update and its kernel few more days to showcase its ability. Finger crossed!
Perhaps it's user/expectation error, OP. Give it time or do some maintenance wipes. I've been using the previews and battery life is very similar to MM, if not improved.
Sent from my Pixel C using XDA-Developers mobile app
I also experiencing battery issue here. previously when using MM, i got > 4 hours SOT. but after upgrading to 7.0, i only get about 3 hours SOT. when I see the battery settings, the Android System is consuming more battery than the screen. I never had experience like this in MM
do you guys also have the Android System consuming much battery?
I got 4 hours and 8 mins. SOT with battery remaining at 15%. This is with sync and high accuracy location switched on. I also played 1 hours and 15 mins of NBA Live during this period. That said this is using black pepper v2 profile on stock kernel.
So for me it's not bad, though a few more cycles would be ideal to give a concrete evaluation of battery life. Doze does seem to kick in a lot more now, and phone is really deep sleeping when on standby so I think the results are promising.
Hey guys.
So I noticed everyone here and anywhere else basically, complaining about the battery life on this phone after the MIUI 11 update so I used the debloater directly after getting the phone to have the best battery life possible.
Turned off all the suggested apps and services and I gotta say battery improved, but it wasn't what was promised by the phone's specs. I'm barely getting 4h SoT, without any heavy usage whatsoever, only social stuff.
The culprit for me as well has been the Android System, with over 40% drain every day. So I installed Accubatery to try and see what's happening with my battery, along with better battery stats.
What I found useful from the accubattery app is the permanent notification where it tells you, after a few seconds, how much mA will be drained in an hour of using the phone like the way you are using it at that moment. So I did a test. Had my phone on the home screen, doing nothing. After a few seconds the reading showed -180mA, which is awesome right? Then I locked my phone and left it at the always-on display for a minute or so. Unlocked it and the notification showed -980mA.
This is very VERY weird and I cannot find anything anywhere suggesting what anyone can do to combat this. I have more average battery drain when the screen is off than when the screen is on.
I have never reset my phone (and would like that to stay that way if possible) and the phone itself is a month old. It's really saddening to see other people are getting twice as much SoT.
Do you guys have any suggestions?

I was on Miui 11 for a few weeks and had ~8h SOT with AOD enabled all the time. Now I am on Pixel Experience and I have ~7.5h SOT without AOD so I am very satisfied with the battery life.
I advise you to wait for Miui 12, which will come very soon to the Mi 9T. Then everything will probably change again with the battery life...
