Hello guys, I am asking this for my friend, he has a GT9500 S4, he has just updated his device yesterday, while updating (before device turns on) it was stuck of updating contacs or somthing like that he can't remember exactly, it got hot so he removed the battery and waited to cool down, device started normally but wouldn't show his contacts, all it says is "Updating contacts list", phone lags a lot, doesn't recieve notification (ea from whatsapp), camera photos is not available in gallery / My Files, only screenshots and whatsapp media (photos and videos). I told him to restart his phone again, but didn't fix the problem, I told him to clear data of Contacts and Contacs storage, didn't fix the problem.
Here's the infor in about device:
Model Number: GT-i9500
Android Version: 4.3
Baseband Version: i9500JKUEML1
Kernel Version: 3.4.5-2092849 , [email protected]#1
Build Number: JSS15J.i9500XXUENA2
What should he do now ? Reset to factory settings ? or it will not work since it got stuck while installing the new firmware ?
Have him download the firmware for his device from sammobile or samsung-updates.com and flash it in download mode using Odin. That should fix his problem.
Since he is not so good in these things, I might do it for him.
Is there any chance that all this could be fixed by a factory reset ?
Where you had a bad flash, the odds aren't favorable towards a factory reset fixing this. It won't hurt to try however.

HI SPEED.LIGHT
You can retray to flash by odin the good firmware
I dont know if you speak about hard reset or wipe data
The risk with the hard reset ( not wipe all datas )
is lost efs (partition ) or imei
In some times
Evaluate the risk

Hello man
Like mentionned up
Dont make hard reset abusively
Flash odin with laptop : portable pc
( to avoid electrical power cut etc...)
For much infos yu can tray xda research : imei & efs
Odin doesn't factory reset, so there's no risk of losing the IMEI. A factory reset doesn't touch the modem, where the IMEI is usually stored, nor does it touch the EFS partition. Thus you will be ok doing a factory reset. Nevertheless, if you can make a backup using Wanam's EFS tool, do so before starting.

Thanks for the clear precision

Ok sounds straightforward, I will do a backup of everything he needs then backup of EFS, then flash via odin.
It actually is pretty straightforward. Just make sure to use the mentioned tool, as it backs up the hidden partitions on the S4 that other backup tools miss.

Hello everyone. I think I've just messed up my device really bad. And I think there's no solution. I've search everywhere to no avail.
. I have a gt i9500, I was flashing through Odin (4.2.2 OS for my country) and my computer got stuck while installing the software. After a while Odin finished flashing the software. When my phone boot up I had no signal. It took a while until I realized my IMEI changed to Unknown. What's wrong is that I deleted the internal sd card prior flashing the software, and i did not save my efs folder. (I've done this a thousand times! )
I've tried flashing the software again, restoring cm backups but I still won't get any signal! I'm wondering if there's anything u can do to get an IMEIand gget signal, any help would be awesome. I attach what I have in my current efs folder.
Thanks... I don't fell like spending $700+ dollars for a new device

Three questions:
What version of odin areyou using?
You were flashing 4.2.2 but, what version did you have previously?
Can you see your baseband version on settings-> about the phone?

Hey I'm new to these forums but I'm having an issue with my Galaxy S4 SGH-I337M. I had 4.3 firmware on my phone and it was rooted and then I attempted to unroot with Mobile Odin, but I messed it up halfway through. It was frozen on the Samsung Galaxy S4 screen and in the corner it said:
"KERNEL IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING.
Set warranty bit: kernel"
I flashed a 4.2.2 rom in Odin on my computer and it started to work again but I had no WiFi, no sound and I cannot receive or send calls. It was also running very slowly. I thought that updating to 4.4.2 would help, it didn't really change anything except what it said would be. Please help as I want WiFi and sound and the ability to call people. Is there any way to return all the software on the phone to the original state it was in so that it runs faster and like it would coming out of the box?
dial *#06# if you see numbers for the imei tell me
if you dont see anything then you lost your imei so you cant use wifi or calls

1. You tripped KNOX when you downgraded ur phone (KNOX:0x1 in bootloader). This mean no WARRANTY. You never will have again like in original state.
2. For recovery the sound and wifi:
- Make a backup of your internal memory.
- Make a factory reset:
Wake your Samsung Galaxy S4
Navigate to and tap on Settings.
Go to Accounts
Tap Backup & reset.
Select Factory data reset.
You will see a warning – read it and tap Reset phone.
Now tap Erase everything.
That's it.
- Shutdown ur phone and get it in DOWNLOAD MODE.
- Flash again through ODIN the firmware with android 4.4.2

Hello,
I have this problem with my phone and i don't know how to fix it, the IMEI is Null and when i enter "*#0011#" the ServiceMode is Blank !!
I tried to use GS5_EFS_Backup but it doesn't work ! Also the phoe get hot a lot, and when i put it in charge the battery level of charge is stuck in 10% always.
My phone is rooted.
Help me Please.
Thank you
Sounds like you wiped your EFS partition without backing it up first
Phone is dead if that is the case
Some people have had success backing up another S5 EFS, then restoring it to the dead phone
Otherwise, take it to a repair shop, next time backup before messing about

Thank you Detection for your answer. So where can i find another S5 EFS, and how can i restore it.
Help me Please because i tried already to take it to a repair shop but they don't know how to fix it, that's why I wanna try to repair it myself, and i think its one of the repair shops who wiped the EFS partition without making a backup (because i give to 3 repair shops and they don't know how to fix it).
You'll need another S5, no-one here will give you their EFS backup as it is specific to their S5
A trusting friend / family member or an old 2nd hand S5 if you can find one, is your only choice

There is no other solution like flashing the PIT file using Odin and reinstate the stock rom or any other solution !
Nope, not if you've deleted the EFS partition - that contains the IMEI and Radios
Ok thank you, ill try to contact samsung after sales service.
Hi everybody,
I have same issue:
I needed to update SU-binaries and tapped accidentally on CWM/TWRP-Mode instead of normal. After this IMEI is null, Service Mode blank, sudden reboots and unable to install any Apps (always saying no free memory). uninstalling App causes reboot.
I have efs backup made with (PhilZ Touch) CWM, but I'm not able to fix the problem with it.
What I tried:
flashing Stock ROM + updating Bootloader in Odin
this Guide (except Samsung Tool and Terminal Emulator steps, as I can't install any App)
CWM script
I really don't know what else I can do. Does anybody have some other ideas?
Also backing up is not possible, now. EFS Professional says specified PIT file does not exist, even when I choose all partitions.
FIXED. Possible solution.
Fixed. Went to a shop to repair IMEI/EFS.
It seems there is something called "IMEI NV Generator", this should also do the magic and would have saved me some money.

I have the same problem after trying to change the original IMEI>>> any help please
Please take a look here and here.
My I9505 is showing unknown baseband version and null IMEI, and it is not detecting sim card.
My phone was working fine (i.e. showing IMEI and baseband version were good) on Android 4.4.2 Kitkat. I manually updated it to Lollipop 5.0.1 using firmware named I9505XXUHOB7_I9505BTUHOB4_BTU.
I did this using Odin 3.09 only checked Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time. Everything went fine and device booted with Lollipop and then this problem of unknown baseband version and null imei happened.
I searched on the internet and i think it is because of corrupt EFS. Can someone guide me thoroughly on restoring EFS.
What happens when you flash Android 4.4.2 onto the device again?
As to it being a corrupt EFS folder, unless flashing the previous ROM to your device works, you may well be screwed if you didn't make a backup. However, I don't believe it to be a corrupt folder.

i recently update my spirnt S5 to lollipop 5.0 and i can't update my PRL or profile it seys : (the PRL update could not be completed you my need to contact customer service) so please help me out
Try a factory reset and try again. If that doesnt work you can Odin completely back to stock. If you use Odin just make sure you flash the image file with your current baseband.

No you won't lose your IMEI by flashing back to 4.4.2
Backup your EFS partition if you're worried
