[Q] Hard bricked SM-N900V? - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there, my first post. Thank you for all of the great resources and contributions on here. I really appreciate all of this info and enjoy learning more about Android.
I had my 1.5 year old Verizon Note 3 (SM-N900V) that was acting weird so I warrantied and got a new one 2 months ago. It has been working great ever since. I have not rooted the phone or anything, running all stock software, Android 5.1.1. Last Tuesday I pulled my phone out of my pocket after lunchtime (had just spoken to my wife, sent a couple texts, you know the normal stuff maybe 30 minutes before) and it was dead.... I thought it was weird, thought maybe it just turned off o something, battery was about half full the last time I saw it. But nothing, nada, no response from leaving plugged in for a couple hours to charge. No vibrate on power+vol down+home button, not so response no vibrate from power button alone.
I have tried the mje and nc2 unbrick image with Win32Disk imager and am still getting zero response from the phone. Using a 32gb micro sd formatted to exfat. also tried fat 16.
I thought that I read when a phone is hard bricked and you are using the method with the unbrick image file on a micro sd card you will still get a vibrate when holding the buttons down even it the screen doesn't turn on? I am getting no response whatsoever.
I'm def. a newb in terms of my android rooting and flashing ROM's experience, I have only experimented with 2 different phones.
I have a feeling the phone is toast but I'm so confused by how it died... Wondering if maybe they sent me a refurb device when I warrantied it and it was just volatile? I'm also temped to order a new motherboard for it off of ebay but again I don't know enough to determine if it would work or it this is just a crapshoot. I am due for an upgrade but was hoping that I wouldn't have to upgrade for a few more months until the Note 5 drops in price a little, I was even going to just get the Note 4 because it has a microSD slot but it's the same price as the Note 5! I am using my old school Galaxy Nexus for the time being and it's killing me, the thing is a dinosaur!
Any help is appreciated.

Try to change out your battery in case battery is bad. It's cheaper and easier than motherboard swap. It sounds like no power to phone.

Would the battery just suddenly decide to go bad like that?

It doesnt seem to be hard bricked. Its sounds like a hardware issue. Like he said buy a cheap $5 battery to find out. And yes batteries do short and die very fast. If it was a replacement phone it was a refurbished one and you never know, that could have been the original problem with your replacement phone. You can get another mobo but you be careful that its doesn't have a bad imei.

Ok I will try it. Thanks! The reason the battery thing threw me off is because when I called verizon to warranty it, I thought I would have to purchase a new battery because mine was 1.5 years old, but when I put it in the replacement phone (it didn't come with a battery so I had to use the original one) it worked great.
I broke down and bought the Note 5 last week. I like it, but I'm not as impressed as I was when I first got the Note 3. We'll see how it goes but it would be nice to fix the Note 3, root it and try a new rom on it, I haven't done that in a while.
Thanks again!

There is hope for those with broken USB connectors

Hello all,
Sadly my X10 has came to the same fate as my previous X10 and my USB port on the phone has came loose from the PCB.
If people are stuck at this point and would just like a working phone and are currently happy with the way the phone is functioning then this can help you.

It charges the battery !
I am currently running z's 2.2 back on my 48 baseband so my upgrades are limited and money is extremely tight so a new phone and experimenting with this phone is out the question!
If you are in the same situation as e then this could be a wee god send for that minority! As soon as I get money I am ordering one so I can enjoy the use of my X10 again
Enjoy

So I guess this microUSB problem happens quite often with X10i, since it happened twice to you and my phone is sent to service for the same reason.
Yup apparently Ive heard it quite a lot
hmm but i dont think opening the back of the x10 over and over again to eject the battery solves this... after a while your backcover is broken too

This is for people who can't afford to splash out on a new/working phone for various reasons.
My back cover has been off countless occasions and it doesn't even have a crack etc
I am currently under contract and a few other issues which means I either by a new X10 or live with the phone I have
Atleast this way I still have a working phone for the remainder of my contract.
I've lost my cover 3 weeks ago (i've gotten a new one recently) but if you are afraid of breaking the cover the phone is perfectly usable without it. And it is hard plastic but it does wear out.

You'll still have a phone with limited functionality. You still can't install custom roms and if the phone gets bricked, it won't do no good. But it's still better than nothing. Great find OP.

I still have a wee bit of upgrading capability through xRec just limited by baseband
But it's a very cheap fix so who can complain
Phew I am not the only one. My phone stopped charging a while ago and I wonder what was wrong.
My phone is still well in warranty.... Do the SE centers care if I rooted my phone or not?
Yup, my X10 USB connector partially stopped working too, 2 days ago. Connected to PC nothing happens but it can be charged via AC charger. However it charges extremely slowly, maybe even slower that it was via PC. It takes at least half of a day to charge whole battery if not all day. I'm afraid it's going to stop charging completely. Considering fact that I don't have a warranty and it is a fairly new phone I have to think of that solution too. I was messing with it pretty hard, and now I'm stuck on 2.1.54 baseband, not that bad but... Even with that I will be limited to much to feel ok with it. Need a new phone, definitely not Xperia. It could happen again. If not that I would be fully happy with it.
After reading all this, i decided to break the two "anchors" of the mini (or micro or whatever its called) usb which hold the cable in place so it can not be disconnected accidendly from the phone..
Now it is much easier to connect and disconnect the phone without having to fear that it might break somehow after putting to much strength when disconnecting the cable.
Hope this will help us not having to worry too much about breaking the usb!
+1... Same problem here... 1 month of use... same as diament... just charge and slow... USB for transfer is gone...

The company evertop is a scammer. They sold me counterfeit goods and refused to refund even after I returned the goods to them. You might have bought the charger someone else returned in dismay.
for all of you, i saw not much time ago, a post talking about "how to fix a broken microusb port" why dont you look for it, it seems to be quite easy to fix

If you have a lot of mental strength and steady hands there is a way to bypass and solder on a usb lead to the x10.

Brand new Note 4 turning off randomly

Literally just got it an hour ago, installed my old apps and it now is turning off randomly. Sometimes when it's in my pocket, other times when it's sitting on my desk. Makes no sense, google'd and found nothing of any help really.
I've battery pulled tons of times, and sometimes I have to pull two to three times before the damn phone will even power on.
Plugged it in just now, it will show it's fast charging... try to turn it on and it won't turn on.
Taking it back for replacement or maybe a new battery. Just checking if anyone else has this problem.
Just an update: It was a complete dud from the factory.
So after taking it back to the VZW store I agreed to see if ti was just the battery, get home and go to look at the phone. Dead.
Got a brand new one and it's fine now.

Power issues

Hey Peeps, ok so today i bought a Google Nexus 7 (thinking good make tablet and all that), it was 2nd hand, and i see great development for it, unlike the Lenovo one i have.
Now it was 2nd hand, and immaculate, boxed, bought from CEX UK, Tablet comes with 2 year warranty so i have peace of mind, it wouldnt power up in shop, dude said it had been sat in the display for a few weeks left on and battery was dead but its fine, so, im home, to my dismay, Plugged charger in, and nothing, no beeps, no battery indicator or lights, nothing, tried a different charger, same thing, tried usb, no difference, so i tested all the chargers on my phone, theyre fine, so i googled and found so many random silly posts about press this button for 10 secs, do this etc etc, im sure youve all read them before, but i know this can happen to any android tablet, so im still confident of a fix, but ive tried em all, pulling the battery etc and still, nothing.
Now i know the tablet works because the store test all equipment they purchase before accepting the item, so its clear the battery has been left to drain away, and im reading on here that this can be a real pain with the Nexus.
Im stuck, can anyone give me any advice please, ive finally bought a tablet that has good XDA support and Development, i really dont want to take it back and have to swap for a different one.
Any help appreciated, must be a simple fix for this.

Inaccurate battery percentage...

I have a 910T3 that I slow charge (AC) most of the time. When I see the green light go on, I unplug and see 100%, but after I reboot into TWRP recovery it is usually like 93%. Which one is accurate? I'd prefer the green light to go on when it's really 100%. Thank you.
Also, the stock battery is about 20 months old, and I can use it to about 0%-1% before it shuts off.
You could try reinitializing your battery. However seeing as your battery is that old. You would be better off getting a new one.
What is reinitializing the battery? I really wanted to avoid buying a new battery unless I really had to. I've read people's battery dying at like 25% left, that's when I'd buy a new one.

Above post is correct as your battery is quite old it is probably time for a new one. My old note 4 was very similar to this before the emmc failed in it it would always show different percentages on battery, the phone died before i got to replace battery though

Man I was hoping it wasn't time for a new battery just yet. Also, sorry to hear about your n4. Looks like eventually all of them will die like that soon. I swear this was planned cause the n5 wasn't that great, trying to thin out the n4 herd.

I tried the no5 for a bit, but wasn't really impressed with it. It had it's pros and cons, but I felt the no4 was better overall for my uses. I read others saying pretty much the same thing with sticking with the no4 rather than moving on the no5 cause of no battery or microsd card support etc.
How did you deal with dead batteries out of warranty or did you have both battery issues in the first year?

Lol i bought 3 note 5s and pieced them together with one one good screen and a bad usb port on said screen i swapped the batteries myself I heated the baqck and didnt bust it just scratched it. so i ordered a new back and use small dabs of rubber cement to put it back on.
I do all my own repairs no warranty. i had a verizon tmobile and sprint mother boards luckily I rooted before the usb went out completly and used wifi file transfer and wireless charge for that issue. So much as I now despise Usb ports and no wireless charge on devices.

Wow, I wish I had the skills and patience to do that. I know I'd make things worse and end up paying more in the long run for parts and fixing it. I think that is a huge reason why many won't move onto these newer phones without replaceable batteries.
I swapped out an older, but less used oem no4 battery and will see if it's any better.
So I'm using the older battery and lights up green at 100% (same level as TWRP rec).
But today, my phone just shut off at around 35-39% while in the middle of streaming a short video clip. Only way to turn it back on was to remove then reinsert the battery. Is this normal of dying batteries around the last 1/3 or could this possibly be an unstable kernel issue.

Very strange - Completely dead V20?

Hi guys...
I brought my wife and I back to Android from Windows Phone just before Christmas.
Bought my wife a V20.
Last night, with about 80% battery, she was sending a text message to me... And the phone died.
Ever since, we cannot get it to turn on. We have pulled the battery... Done the whole power button discharge thing... Tried to enter recovery... Tried charging it
The ONLY response (if you would call it that) we have managed to get is that the phone got warm whilst charging.
I'm running out of ideas... Have bought a spare battery which arrives tomorrow... Any other ideas greatly appreciated.

Does it stay on with the charger plugged in?
No... With the charger plugged in there are no signs of life... So no charging screen, no led lights etc.
Well... New battery did nothing.
I just don't understand it... No physical or water damage... Working and in use to suddenly completely dead... It makes no sense?
hi, im from Argentina and got the same problem. My phone died after i restarted, it doesn't turn on even with charger pluged in. hope theres a solution. Abrazo enorme.

it's broken on normal usage, so it should be some unlucky faulty product then
I have the same problem, it just died in the middle of checking my email, while on the charger, battery at 90%. It won't turn on no matter what. I've had mine for only 2 weeks.
LG are a bunch of assholes (mods feel free to censor that if you have to). I mean SERIOUS ASSHOLES!.
They could have designed their PBL to have FEC (forward error correction), but better yet, they could have designed it so that if a sig match fails, you STILL get download mode so you can reflash your phone.
Nooooo ...... they are super assholes, and if your phone fails a sig check then it is a brick.
What probably happened is that your NAND has some bad spots, and therefore the RSA signed firmware failed a signature check.
Due to the lawsuit, you can call LG and tell them you have a brick, and they will probably replace it.

Same story happened last night , having my LG V20 for about 4 years , i only played music and some recordings plus social media through this device ..a few days ago i've seen some crashes and restarts maybe due to it's full storage (2 GB free) or using it continuously on charging mode . finally last night it gone completely dead and black! i've tried almost every solving video tips on you tube and some websites (also charging with and without the battery) the only major living sign was getting warm while chargin it without the battery!! any ideas?!
My v20 unfortunately did this same thing after replacing the screen, 60gb worth of important photos lost forever now.. GREAT.. Won't even warm up while plugged in, no vibrations, nothing. completely dead and i can't even get a voltage reading on the board anywhere except the battery terminals. as if the board's traces were cut from the battery. Only took a year on a used v20
