Sorry if this is duplicated question, I searched the forum but found nothing definitive yet.
Is there any information regarding the new official update to Lollipop 5.1 for Moto G 2014? (Preferably the XT1068 version, which is the one I have). I read on news that Moto G 2014 (and other models) were receiving the update because of that security bug, but haven't found any download for the new version so far... (maybe is too recent?)
Thanks in advance. Regards.
No. Motorla seems to do a soak test these days but there is no 5.1.x firmware out.
Thanks for the information!
Could we expect that this test will help us acquire it? I mean, the 5.0.2 for the XT1068 was also a soak test and we got it, right?

I'd say it's 99% certain that we WILL get 5.1.1 ... the only question is when.
My (wild) guess would be this year.
They have only sent out the standard survey-form which they do before every test but afaik they haven't actually started testing yet.
So, depending on when they'll actually start and how well the soak test goes it might be as soon as within 2-3 Months = probably this year.
(Again, just a wild guess and a bit of whishful thinking)
I know about as much as Motorola Support, which is absolutely nothing.

Seems like since the chinese bought motorola a lot has changed there...
Try Titan Prime 1.1.1 with stellar kernel 5.1,fast,stable and good battey stats.
It´s based on stock and my daily driver. But (yes) it´s based on #*+% android 5.0.2 not on.....you know.
maybe because lenovo have bought motorola.
sry for my english
Huh, I'll give it a try! cm12.1 is really buggy for me
Soak tests haven't been started yet, only forms have been filled.
Problem with Android is Google is releasing versions so fast, vendors do not have time to adapt each and every version (plus: why should they? they make no money out of it)
Maybe we will not get Android 5.1 on Moto G 2014 but Android 6.0 when it's released really soon.

They make no money but I think for many people fast updates are an argument to buy a device. And on the other side, if I was a vendor I would be very careful with the release of a brand-new firmware after the disaster with 5.0 and probably better come out with a stable 5.1.1 than a (eventually) buggy 6.0.

How may people do care about updated versions? Very few, really.
App updates? Sure. Give them new a new version of WhatsApp, Facebook, etc. Maybe even an enhanced camera app. But a new firmware? Very few people even know what that is.
So a device with guaranteed updates? Yes, there is a market for that: developers or curious people. And that's why the Google Nexus class of devices exists and sells well.
Yeah,these android nerds...?
What about security? I think that the best way is that the system gets update not depending from the manufacturer, like with the computer. Will be possible in the future of Android?

Looking forward to lollipop also.. I hope in next month
Sorry but why we need 5 different lollipop threads?! Why should getmobilephone know when huawei will release lollipop?
I don't believe that
Lollipop will be available to Mate 7 at March 2015 in the Chinese Market only
International Lollipop will be Available June 2015
It might not be correct, but he is an distributor of Huawei Mate, and probably has connections with Huawei. I'd love it if he's right, if not well what can you do :/

Why make this "lollipop" buttons when they do not aim to have the real lollipop ?
Mate 8 is just speculation no official confirmations... I want Lollipop now.. my device feel aged without it..
I also hope better performance also and battery life.. if Huwawei will be more popular I think updates are something that they can't ignore.. if there will be no lollipop in the next few months I will not buy a Huawei device again..I demand it..as simple as that..already when I bought it when it was news there was rumours about lollipop in Q1 2015..so I expect it very soon.

You can make your phone lollipop visually only..
Or you need Google phone like nexus if u like fast updates...
Huawei will update to 5.0 BUUT don't expect if will look lolipoppy.. It will STILL look EMUI 3.0..
Imagine 3.0 OFFICIALLY released just NOW in January..
phones are not even 4.4.4 but 4.4.2..

I don' t see all this necessity for Lollipop update, also because what e really use in our AM7 are the apks we install,..the menus and the other parts I don' t think we use so often.
Therefore Lollipop or Kitkat shouldn' t change the situation so much, as most of the users are writing.
What could be better, IMHO, should be: battery drain and radio signal stability/sensibility.
This is my opinion only.

Well if you don't see the need for lollipop update they don't update your device when it rolls out. I will update mine though.
It's not just about the apk installation as you call it. If it were, then why aren't you still using froyo or gingerbread? Why did you buy a phone running kitkat?
Hello XDA,
I have the 910G variant and I've been waiting for the release OTA or via Kies since the release began but bubkiss.
Sammy mobile literally has dozens of variant firmware and theres plenty of threads on here about cross flashing X to Y or what have you but not a single mention (according to a fair amount of searching) on whether any of the existing ROMs work for the G or whether its going to be released etc.
My question is, does anyone know of any of the variant versions that WOULD/SHOULD work with the 910G or if the firmware is out there and I'm just an idiot?
If someone can recommend a ROM to try within reasonable margins I'll definitely give it a shot and be a guinea pig.
Thanks in advance.

F ROM's will work on our G device with a custom kernel like AEL - but we need the bootloader and modems for our G model first, which we cant do without samsungs release.

From my understanding our modem and bootloader is different from the n910f and therefore we can't flash it on our n910g untill someone finds a custom kernel or sammy releases it. Sucks i know, I'm waiting for lollipop since it was mentioned by Google

It was literally the main reason I bought this phone over the Nexus 6, I had a Note 3 and flashed the early Lollipop leak and that was such an incredible leap in quality I felt the lollipop for the note 4 would make it the best phone on the market by a long shot, especially given the 4.4.4 firmware was already so much better then the usually touchwiz fair.
Oh well, patience is a virtue, if only I could buy it on ebay.

Agreed.
I handle iPhones at work a lot and I have to admit the hardware is gorgeous and Android hasn't totally outdone the iPhone 6 yet in hardware, but the software, the most important part is far and away much better.
Every time I pick up an IP6 and think "man this sure is sexy...maybe the software is better now" I try to navigate through menus and end up playing the "wheres the back button now!" game and I hate it.
I like the design of the iP6, but i absolutely hate the OS with so much hatred lol. I would never go back to iOs. If only you could install android on a ip6...
I'm officially starting to get pissed off enough to consider returning the phone, the rep guaranteed me the Lollipop update would be out for my variant the week it released for all others.
Clearly thats not true.
What is taking so long to release?

first of all, relax and take a deep breath.
Lollipop for the N910F is NOT gonna work on G since you don't have the correct bootloader and modem.
so i'm sorry, but you'll have to wait for Lollipop release for the G.
and even though the F roms work on G with kitkat...it still needed a different kernel, and that has to come from sources...that samsung has to release...which takes a looooong time
so sure, you can look at spec sheets and see that F is basically the same as G, but it still won't help boot the rom.
sorry :good:

I'm not sure "soon" is the correct word as we still need a stable 5.1.1 first with, at least, the followings bugfix:
- Micro SD card issues
- Auto brightness issues
- Low video record framerate
- Wrong color calibration (8500k +)

The time frame for OPO on Cyanogen and OPT is Q1 2016, and for OPX they didn't even announced a time frame yet... How can that be described as soon?
More rumours from phonearena
As for the OnePlus X, which is the newest among the three devices, OnePlus is already "working hard to bring Marshmallow" to it "as soon as possible" - this might mean that the update could be ready to roll out before the end of the year, though that's just our guess.
Bah, we'll see. Maybe instead of fixing all bugs they can save some time and roll out MM.

I wonder if there's any chance that somebody "back-develops" (if I may say so) any oneplus KK rom (from either the 1 or 2) for the x. Would be great.
I would assume that the first phone to get the upgrade would be the OP2 followed by OPX or OPO.
OnePlus would focus on rolling it out for their latest Flagship Killer which is the OP2

No 7.1 in the G6 future, LG never update to this "minor" release, only security patch updates with enhancements, like in previous LG smartphones
7.1 is more than a minor update though. It fixes the bad standby drain that's present in 7.0. If they don't update to 7.1 I'll likely dump LG if this is indeed how they do things. Thanks for the reply

Heard at least cpl of reviewers say it. Don't remember who tho. I've watched a lot of G6 reviews but only read a cpl.
Either way, if they aren't pushing 7.1 they'll probably hurry up with Android O, as you said. They're usually one of the first ones to update their eligible phones to new Android and Android O is supposedly really close (fall release).
Rumor has it the g5, V20 and now I assume G6 are jumping from 7.0 to 7.1.2. That only recently was released to pixel/nexus phones.

Lol have you ever followed the LG scene? Seems not.
As I already told LG never updates to this minor release, it is also one of the fastest OEM to release the major versions of android, G5 received Nougat officially on November.
Again, this is based on the past of LG, which are facts, not on rumors without source.

Either way, an update to either will be nice and the sooner the better. But, to be honest, I am more concerned with gaining root/twrp. Being on a tmo model that is bootloader-unlockable out of the box, we usually get it sooner than later...at least on my prevous g2, g3, g4, g5.

Agree, if this year LG decides to make better updates releasing 7.1.1 for G6 i'll be pretty happy, this sort of things are always good, but well i don't have much hope for the reasons i've already explained xD
Root won't be a problem for Europeans H870, as always, but for the T-Mobile one, if it won't support the official unlock then you have to hope that devs find something similar to the findings on the G5 and V20, good luck :fingers-crossed:

What is so annoying is they let us unlock the bootloader on the TMO model, but they strip out all the fastboot commands, which screws over. I believe the Euro mode still has the fastboot commands, but I am not sure.

it's funny to read this six month later and still no 7.1 for g6
I'm glad there is finally something came when I clicked the update button after a long time. And here it is, February security update after skipping January and releasing it after mid March, what a great speed of updates. I was hoping for Oreo but Motorola wants to take their time I think. Expected to get Oreo by mid April or they'll just troll us by pushing a March security patch.
Update is of 57mb if you're wondering.
It's ridiculous how the heavily skinned S8 gets Oreo way before near stock Android Moto. Nokia on the other hand is already on 8.1. I hope Moto upgrade directly to 8.1 if they're taking this long.

It's not about skinning, it's about priorities - Moto Z Play is almost 2-year non-flagship device, so you should be happy, that you'll get update. Moto Z2 Force, which is newest flagship is already on Oreo for some time...

It's 8.0 and as pointed out this phone is already old and a non flagship. Comparing this to a S8 is like comparing apples to oranges.
Apple is not on Android but oranges may be

I read about project treble, it seems the problem with slow updates is vendor implementation. Lenovo just want to slow updates for older phones so people will get frustrated and buy their new phones. It's just a theory, maybe something else is the problem for slow updates. I think in couple of months they'll push last updates to MZP, no expectations for Android P because how slow they are pushing updates, it seems like they just want to get rid of their older devices. It's a common market parctice so I don't have any problem but thanks to XDA developers for making custom roms so users can enjoy new android in older phones too.
They used to be so fast when they were Motorola.. now they are a Lenovo company and SLOW AS HELL.
The phone feels snappier after this security update... maybe I'm dreaming

But still going strong. As said above, our phone is quite old and Moto is still supporting it. You got security update, SOAK testers got 4th build today. I really respect that they are listening testers' feedback, not just releasing major update and letting people to stuck with the buggy one. Which other vendor is putting so much effort?

So far so good but I have to check bugs other users are reporting. Some bugs, like stability, battery drain, etc. are showing up after couple of days. It's not clever to install update, test few things and then report right away that everything works.

Whatcha mean? I see a ton of people doing just that.. I love the random unresponsiveness still.
