So, after much tinkering I've figured out the definitive way to boot your headphone volume, that can likely be applied to other things such as the speaker and the handset volume.
***MAKE BACKUP OF ANY FILE YOU MODIFY - A BACKUP METHOD IS INCLUDED BELOW***
What you need:
Rooted Phone
FX File Explorer
FX File Explorer ROOT ADD-ON
5 minutes
1. Download and install the apps linked above. I chose that file manager because I've confirmed through a lot of use that it will not truncate your files leading to a bootloop and it does not modify your permissions when editing the file.
2. Open File Explorer. Choose 'System (Root)', grant access, then navigate to 'etc'.
(/system/etc)
3. Tap the overflow dots in the upper right of the screen and enable 'Mount Read-Write'. Click through.
4. Scroll down to your 'mixer_paths.xml' and long press on the file. Select 'Archive' and confirm. Do not change the type, as the Tar/BZip will leave your permissions intact. This is your backup.
5. Tap the 'mixer_paths.xml' file to open in the text editor. You can pinch to zoom in and out to make it easier to see if you've already changed your DPI settings.
6. Tap the edit button in the upper right. Once in edit mode tap the pencil icon in the upper right. Use the magnifying glass to find and search for 'lg rx device' (without quotes).
It would seem that the values under this header are the ones that actually do anything for our phone, though I've only tested the headphones myself.
7. Scroll down from 'lg rx device' until you find <path name="headphones-advanced">
8. Once you are there, you can modify 'RX1' and 'RX2' volume values to boost them. I have mine set to '94', though you may want to try different values yourself to compensate for distortion... Perhaps a bit lower. The default value is '80'.
(I would definitely suggest playing around with this, because with certain music genres or settings on your equaliser/Viper the distortion can range from not bad to absolutely horrendous.)
9. Tap the overflow dot menu in the upper right corner to save the file.
10. Reboot your phone and enjoy!!
This can also be combined now with the Xposed module 'Volumesteps+' or 'LG G4 Tweaksbox' for finer audio control. Not to mention Viper4Android and Poweramp.
V4A with Poweramp guide here:

Props to @phillymade and @jesssiii for spurring me to dig into this.
(Note: There are also 'HPHL' and 'HPHR' volume values, that I believe should control your individual left/right headphone volumes. I haven't tested, but based on what I've seen elsewhere in the Nexus 6/G2 forums you could probably try altering those values *instead* of the 'RX' values. This is a really good starting point overall for those who like to tinker.)
EDIT 04/FEB/2016:
Just followed my own tutorial again. It all functions on 5.1 with an H812. This time I set my RX volumes at '89' and my HPHL/HPHR at '21'. They seem to function independently just fine, so you can try one or the other. I tried higher values on each and the distortion is just gross. Even on these numbers I may need to tweak again so I can comfortably set volume on max without distortion worry. It really does depend on the track too, as there's less range needed with some genres.
I am still looking for the suround sound mod for this file. Any idea for how to get the ear piece to play music? By the way, thanks for the mention. Glad some of us found this useful.

Haha, honestly not a clue. I was really just determined to get the volume sorted out without changing 50 different values at once. It's a bit annoying as I needed to test each value individually and reboot after every change.
There seems to be a lot of editing of mixer_paths.xml by many people, but there is **** all for actual documentation or meaning for the vague naming conventions. I've dug through XDA and the internet trying to find something to spell out what the variables actually mean and I've found nil.
Please by all means tinker and lets us all know the results
EDIT: I should also mention that I'm not even sure if the two 'RX' values mentioned are linked and need to be edited together. I have not tried them individually, but i figured they were under same header so may as well.
Cmon, cmon, give us some settings and lines to modify to boost speaker volume
Great job btw with the headphones
Any option to increase the stepping of the volume? Currently it's 0-7 (as checked from tasker). I'd like to have a finer tune possibly 0-15 or 0-20

Me too.
There's an Xposed module but it doesn't seem to work at all from my testing.
Dam good... Working so well. I'm using Poweramp with your values set to 94. The stock music player distorts sounds while playing that loud. Power amp gives a good feedback to these settings and of course your in built settings for the equaliser.
Volumesteps plus from xposed module works like a charm if u enable lg compatibility option.
I I've set all volume steps to 35 with it.

I don't know if you've ever seen it, but with the LG G3 there was s sound mod similar to this one that you posted. There's a whole guide on what specifically needs to be altered. What I'd like to know if editing the G4 mixer_path in a similar style to the G3 would cause any problems or not. Also, what difference does V4A with PowerAmp make? Is it better sound quality? I have PowerAmp and I really like it's equalizer so I'm curious to know if V4A will make it better.

Yes, I based this off the G2/G3 forum posts I found, but the mixer_paths.xml is different so it required a lot of digging and testing.
I do not know if any of the other changes that may be mentioned for the G2/G3 would work, as the file is quite different and more complex. The values that seem to effect our phone are specifically labelled under the 'lg rx device' header I mention. In my quest for seeking out the volume boost for the headphones I couldn't get anything outside of that header to actually cause a change, or if it did it wasn't something I was able to notice.
I'd suggest you make a back-up of the file and poke-around. If you're able to figure anything else out please share!
As for Viper4Android, it's a sound processor. Currently I'm not even using an equaliser in PowerAmp, just a few settings in V4A that someone on XDA posted as a suggestion for the G4 and it's done wonders. Though, the tweaking can be a bit overwhelming if you're not familiar with it.
H815 not working ......
I tried to modify any settings for Speaker, but its hard. I cant find any RX related speaker settings under "lg rx device" I scrolled down many lines until the end. Next was "lg tx device" which isnt what i need, right ?

My Herald came with a HTC app. preinstalled that enabled me to turn it off or specify another sound. It's in the registry somewhere if the app isn't installed btw.

think u have to put em in the windows folder, and they have to be *.wav
havnt tested myself but should work
Look for a key in the registry called "SlidingSound". It has 3 keys, "0", "1", and "2", each corresponding to the 3 sound options. Copy the .wav files you want into the windows directory. Choose any one of the 3 keys and change the "in" and "out" string values to the sounds you want. I tried this and it worked. I think I'll make my slide out sound like a cash register until it becomes more annoying than humorous.

Hi to all,
I am trying to replace the file "lowbatt.wma" in the /windows folder, in order to have a different low battery sound, but the system does not permit me, neither to overwrite the file. Is there a way to do this action?
Thanks
Check this
I guess the phone wont allow you to overwrite or replace the default lowbatt alarm...since its on the ROM. If your trying to use a customized sound file....make sure its a wav file. Have you tried to just drop that file under the windows directory and then selecting it from under sounds and alerts? I believe this should work.
Good Luck.
Thank you.
The fact is that I do not find the option to change the sound of alarm low battery in the "alert/sound" menu. Where is it? I found only the one to change sound of incoming calls, incoming messages, ecc ecc.

If your using a stock phone you wouldn't be allowed to make this modification from the sounds and notifications option. What you can do then is to add this entry into the sounds and notifications drop down menu. To do tht:
1. Your going to need a registry editing software.
2. Back up your registry before proceeding ( if you havn't already done so)
3. Before you go into the registry, make sure the wav file tht you want to use as your preferred low battery alarm is placed under the windows directory.
3. Navigate to the location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications\{A877D663-239C-47a7-9304-0D347F580408}\
4. Create a new string value here and call it Default.
5. Set its value to Low battery warning
6. Now go sounds and notifications and under the notifcations drop down you should see the low battery warning option.
7. Select it and assign your customized wav file to the entry.
And your set! Try it out.
Good luck.
Many Thanks, worked a treat!

I have been using my HTC mogul with my bluetooth headphones for some time now. But I got an iPod touch, and I used my headphones with it. When i switched back to the Mogul, i noticed that the quality was unacceptable. I was hunting around through the registry and i figured out how to make the quality better.
1. Download and install the task manager from attached to this thread.
2. Open it and go to regedit.
3. Navigate to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2DP\Settings
4. Tap and hold BitPool and tap Edit. Change 0x0000001e to 0x0000011e Which changes it from 30 to 286
5. Tap and Hold MaxSupportedBitpool. Tap Edit. Change 0x00000013 to 0x0000011e Which changes it from 30 to 318
6. Exit and soft reset. Your quality should be much better.
Thanks.
I am gonna add this to the MS voice config app.
Kinda related sorta.
Thanks.
Has there been a tweak for the volume control?? Meaning a tweak that will allow the volume to be set in smaller "notches"? i frequent these forums.. and haven't seen anything surfaced... any suggestions? and before someone does it... the task bar/ volume tweak that Mystic Genious or whatever posted... for his phoenix taskbar.. it doesn't work...
I would love for a way to somehow change the volume in smaller amounts.
yea.. there are numerous people on the hd2 forums who would like the same thing.. but for some reason they aren't voicing their opinions...?? but yea.. anyone know anything about this?
Using the volume rocker, it jumps 3 bars at a time. If you tap on the bars on the screen you can increase or decrease 1 bar at a time.
It's always been this way

This is how I adjust my value when I want to be a little more precise. I just touch the bars and move my finger either up or down. Works like a charm. Especially when my girl is asleep and I dont have my earphones.
Volumex allows up to 16 levels. Can't post the url... don't know why, but you can google for "volumex windows mobile"
Here ya go... 15 day evaluation.
FYI, I just came across this volume tweak, stole from the Touch forums but works perfectly for HD2, I added a bit more info.

________________________________
Using a registry editor (ie. Rescoe or Total Commander), navigate to HKLM\Software\HTC\VolumeOverlay\3rdPartyAPClass and you will see a list of apps which use the slimvolume control. You have to add keys (new folders) for all the apps you want to add.
Under these keys you have to create a String value containing the Window Classname of the app. You can get these names using a program like FdcSoft Task Manager v3.1 (or I used BSB Tweaks Rotation to see the class, then removed them afterwards).
I've listed a few of the common ones below to save you the time.
Create a Key: "Nitrogen" Create a String Value called “ClassName” with value "CNtgWndMain"
Create a key: "CorePlayer" Create a string value called "ClassName" with value "wCorePlayer"
Create a key: "Opera" Create a string value called "ClassName" with value
"Opera_MainWndClass"
Slacker Radio is "Slacker"
TCPMP is "TCPMP_Win"
And so on. Take care to get caps and lower case correct, and don't include ""s. If you get the window class names wrong, don't worry, it just won't work till you get it right.
The settings take effect immediately, no need to restart.
PS: If you're not confident editing the registry, best not to do it. If you do, take great care, don't accidentally delete any keys!"
Enjoy.
For example, when I select an option for a menu, or open a menu, to make it make a sound? I have these Metal Gear Solid audio files, for menu opening, menu 1, 2, 3, and I'd love to be able to incorporate them. I just feel like it'd be a really cool thing to have, kind of like different menu transition animations.

Try adb pull /system/app/soundback.apk
Then decompile this apk with apkmanager, and replace the .ogg audio files in /res/raw/ with your own sounds, converted to .ogg format, making sure you first optimise them with apkmanager.
Then recompile the apk, push it back to /system/app/ and on your phone, go to settings-> accessibility and enable soundback
I haven't tested that, but I see no reason at all why it wouldn't work. Enjoy!

Awesome, I'll give it a shot! This is going to be so awesome if it works!
Is it possible to just install the apk? Like I would any other apk? Or do I have to adb push? Root explorer? (I pulled soundback.apk with root explorer. Can I push it back with it too?)
Edit: Okay, so I tried it. It doesn't work. Just force closes on me. I converted .wav to .ogg, made sure they were 2 channel, about the same file size, and 44100 just like the ones in the regular soundback.apk. But still problems. Any ideas? Do I need to sign it?
Strange, as I said, cant see much reason why they wouldn't work. You could upload the sounds and I'll have a look myself, see If I can do anything.
