Benchmark of Note 4 versus Note 5 versus Mi Note Pro - Galaxy Note5 General

As the previous owner of Note 4, I have just upgraded to Note 5 while my mum is using the mi note pro.
Managed to run some benchmarks under cooling conditions, I placed the phones without cases on the top of a cupboard right under the air conditioner till they are very cool and ran it in the same position. I also ran them in normal conditions and I have 1 thing to say: Note5 ramps up like a marathon runner, the benchmarks will get better over repeated runs as if you were waking a slumping dragon while mi note pro gave the best results on the 1st attempt before dropping significantly in benchmarks after repeated runs. The irony of my analogy paints exynos 7420 as a better dragon than snapdragon 810.
I guess this means the snapdragon 810 has some serious thermal throttling going on. Note 4 on the other hand gave rather consistent results from repeated runs.
Feel free to ask me to run other benchmarks under normal, cooling or after gaming. I am also open to battery tests. Note 4 may be sold soon so better get the requests coming in for a real world test!
Benchmarks as below at 25 degrees celsius air con

At 1 point, I left Note5 on a slippery support and it dropped all the way by 1m hitting my table (cushioned by stacks of paper and books) before falling another 1m to the ground Was so glad that there wasn't a single dent or scratch.
Further stress test under normal conditions in post below

Thanks for the comparison

Thank you for this.

I'm curious, did you see any over-heating of battery, CPU or the whole phone? If so, could you track this on all three phones? Thanks.

Alright! A request!
I did the following test - to repeatedly run antutu to stress the cpus and record the temperatures before and after. 4 runs were made and results as below...all photos taken by ipad mini 2.
Guest appearance by 1st Gen Redmi, 1st Gen Redmi Note
The contestants
From left to right: Redmi, Redmi Note, Mi Note Pro, Note 4, Note 5
Ambient temperature of 33 to 38 degrees celsius on the 4 phones
Look at that amount of sensors on the qualcomm powered phones! There were 10 on note 4 and then there were 15 on mi note pro! Meanwhile, Note 5 featured as much sensors as a redmi..
The First Heat
1st run: Redmi note did not complete the tests and the app crashed halfway. Redmi pulled through to give a result of 18k, well done little fellow!
Detailed breakdown of 1st run's test results of Mi note pro, Note 4 and note 5. Mi note pro with its 810 performs almost similarly to the Note 4 on 805 and is even slightly behind. Hmm, this does not bode well.
Temperature wise, Mi note pro hit a maximum of 65 degrees celsius whereas note 4 hits 84 and note 5 hits 83. Temperatures of the 3 phones some time after the 1st run and right before the 2nd run. I had to spend some time to uninstall and reinstall antutu on the mi note pro as I noticed the version on it was 5.7.2 instead of 5.7.1.
The second heat
Detailed breakdown of 2nd run's test results of Mi note pro, Note 4 and note 5. Mi note pro with its 810 performs almost similarly to the Note 4 on 805 once again and trails behind yet again. Both faced a 6% decrease in performance. Note 5 continues to ace the heat with a 2% decrease in performance.
Temperatures of the 3 phones right after the 2nd run and before the 3rd run. Mi note pro hit a maximum of 65 degrees celsius once again whereas note 4 hits 84 and note 5 went further up to 86.
The third heat
Detailed breakdown of 3rd run's test results of Mi note pro, Note 4 and note 5. Mi note pro with its 810 performs almost similarly to the Note 4 on 805 once again and trails behind yet again. Both faced an almost 10% drop in performance with mi note pro dropping more. Note 5's performance took a nosedive but it is still comfortably ahead of both Mi Note pro and note 4. As Note 5 is now my main phone, there could have been a interference of some sort. I did clear all the active apps and turned off sync for all phones before beginning the tests. We will let the next test determine the effects of running 4 runs 1 after another.
Temperatures of the 3 phones right after the 3rd run and before the 4th run. Mi note pro hit a maximum of 65 degrees celsius once again whereas note 4 and note 5 went up to 86.
One shall rise...and one shall fall.
STAHP. Mi Note pro...what? It stopped at 55% and after 20 minutes, I gave up waiting. note 4 and note 5 went up to 86 degrees celsius while I had no idea what mi note pro was at.
Note 4 faced a 12% decrease in performance. Note 5 amazingly recovers to a 0.5% decrease in performance. Do note that the 2nd to 4th runs had no stoppage in between. Meanwhile, Mi Note Pro joins its older brethren redmi note on the sidelines.
Conclusion
It seems that Xiaomi has effectively throttled the temperatures of Mi Note Pro to 65 degrees celsius and no more. The result of that can be seen such that it effectively performs no better than a note 4 (unless it was placed under an air conditioner at 25 degrees celsius). That is bad news since Mi Note supposedly performs similar to a Note 4 (any singaporeans willing to meet up for me to try it out?). Note 5 on the other hand was a beast and leads comfortably ahead even with a sudden handicap. Could mi note pro perform similar to Note 5 if the thermal throttling is changed to 86 degrees celsius or will that result in an even worse result? Do also consider that note 4 has been used for 11 months and could be suffering from old age.
As for temperatures, samsung has effectively not give a * about the high temperatures and let loose on note 4 and 5 without compromising on the performance. Both phones were definitely warm to touch and the mi note pro was no better at 65 degree celsius. If you have sensitive hands, get a thick TPU case to shield your pretty hands. Good night folks!

Note 4 battery anyone concern?

I had the note 3 the battery was terrible and i really thought we'd be getting atleast 4000mah as some websites stated but 3220mah aren't you guys concern? Seems like a joke to me.

I was under the impression that the Note 3 had pretty good battery life... at least that was what I was able to discern from reviews.
Can someone else who also owned the Note 3 chime in?
Watch this and you won't be concerned about battery any more:
https://www.google.de/url?sa=t&sour...Ot9BGMeI02GwNY_Zw&sig2=jB_BFvUf5EMKyJdT_ZwXOw
This video shows that the Galaxy S5 with Snapdragon 805 and QHD Display doesn't use more battery than the "old" Galaxy S5. So Samsung seems to have found good ways for battery saving.
I am not concern. I plan to get 2 extra battery and a external charger. The Note 3 version was like $30. Whick brand is good? Anker?

You would be correct. The Note 3 Battery life was pretty damn good. I never had issues with it, and if you look over the N3 forum you'll see some pretty outstanding results :good:
I expect the N4 to have been tweaked a little and the battery to be either on par or at least very very similar to the N3.

The Note 3 was widely regarded as having some of the best battery life for any phone of that time.
If anything wall hugging iphone users have something to be worried about with their copycat device, "Retina HD" welcome to 2012 Apple and the battery size, hardly a mention because we KNOW its smaller than Samsungs.
My note 3 has pretty decent battery life. Just make sure to disable a bunch of stuff that you don't need for best results.

since 4.4.2 update WiFi battery usage increased. so i got battery drain...
But i change setting to turn off WiFi when screen off and Battery Life became normal
On Note 4 they claimed for more optimization for power + UltraPower Saving mode...
so we have to wait for reviews and our experiences...
:good:
Even though I was disappointed they didn't include a bigger battery, I'm not concerned about battery usage on Note 4. I don't think they would've made a big deal about battery usage the and better performance on the Note 4, if they didn't have something to back that up. It would've been much simpler to not mention the 7% improvement, or just say they increased the battery by 20mAh. I'm expecting a somewhat better performance compared to the Note 3, which is fine.

The battery is still bigger than the iphone 6+'s and you can always swap it out and with quick charge feature 0-50% in 30 minutes, how long does an iphone take?
It's not how big the battery is, but how it's used. I have Note 3 and I saw as much as 40% drain overnight, when phone was not used at all, right after updating to KitKat and I also managed to have as little as 1% drain overnight, after killing some of bloatware. I can't pinpoint anything in particular, but it could be more than one program. Right now for example Google search is draining my battery more than all other programs combined and I'm not doing anything with the phone at all. I don't want to kill it, since I use it sometimes, but if it keeps doing it I may have no choice. Anyhow if Note 3 is working properly it can have fantastic battery life.
According to what I read so far Note 4 screen should be something like 14% more efficient than older version, despite having higher resolution, CPU and rest of hardware should be at last as good as older models and there should be ultra power saving mode, so I wouldn't worry about power that much, unless some program or programs crash and go bananas, but at least software issues can be fixed, just a matter of effort. For example many claim factory reset fixes excessive battery drain right after firmware update, which I had personally.
If you are concerned, you could always buy a ZeroLemon battery.
Here's the report on Note 4 screen. Remember display consumes the most energy of anything.
http://www.displaymate.com/Galaxy_Note4_ShootOut_1.htm
Comparison with the Galaxy Note 3:
The Galaxy Note 4 is 14 percent more power efficient than the Galaxy Note 3. This is due primarily to a 19 percent improvement
in the power efficiency of the Green Primary channel (materials and electronics). The results are scaled for the same Luminance.
Comparison with LCDs:
While LCDs remain more power efficient for images with mostly white content (like text screens, for example), OLEDs are now
more power efficient for mixed image content because they are emissive displays so their power varies with the Average Picture
Level (average Brightness) of the image content. For LCDs the display power is independent of image content. OLEDs have
been rapidly improving in their power efficiency. In fact, the Galaxy Note 4 is 40 percent more power efficient than the
Full HD LCD Smartphones we tested for mixed image content (that includes photos, videos, and movies, for example)
with a typical 50 percent Average Picture Level, APL.

SOC should use the same power as other Snapdragon 805 powered devices (hint: Qualcomm generally makes pretty power efficient smartphones).

Heat

Some phones are great to take camping because if you play Asphalt 8 long enough, the back warms up to the ideal temperature that can bake bread. Rate this thread to express the extent to which the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite stays cool under extended heavy use. A higher rating indicates that even when playing strenuous games for long periods of time, the phone doesn't get uncomfortably warm.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
the phone gets hot with normal after one hour
and also gets hot when charging until it gets 70 % charged then it gets cool because it will lower the amp to 1100 approximate from 1700
I really didnt expect to see this 14 nm phone gets hot with normal use
but overal I am satisfied with it
Temperature
In idle mode, the Xiaomi smartphone remains consistently cool, showing no signs of any hotspots. Under load, temperatures rise especially on the front of the device, sometimes even crossing the 40 °C mark. This is still acceptable, though, and it should not pose any problems for everyday use.
The waste heat inside the midrange smartphone is of greater interest to us. We tested the Qualcomm-SoC's temperature behavior with the GFXBench battery test, which repeats a test scenario 30 times in a row while recording the battery level as well as the frame rate. The Redmi 6 Pro's throttling is negligibly low under load during the demanding Manhattan test (OpenGL ES 3.1). The results show a rather constant frame rate with fluctuations lower than 1%, so performance drops under load are unlikely.

It's become really hot when clash of clans is played..
Don't know about pubg.
Dream League Soccer makes it slightly hot

I havent had any issues either, first i had a moto g4 plus, a lot of heating problems, but with the mi a2 lite i didnt get any heating problems
Hello, I'm creating an account in order to give my real-life review of this phone. The previous phones I had were HTC One M8, LG G6.
Please keep in mind that I am a light user.
This device is never hot. Even in early October, when temperatures could go upwards of 25C/75F, I never had any issues.
The device is much cooler that the HTC One M8 and LG G6 I had before.
no heat problem , 5 stars
I don't know why but I noticed today that my phone is warming a little bit than before, I'm not a heavy user and not a light user also just use YouTube 2-3 hours and pubg one hour a day. I'm on pie and magisk rooted.
Has anyone else has this issue?
Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite heat issues!
Hello.
I have just bought a Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite 4GB/64GB Global Version.
I previously used a 2018 Samsung J3 device which has proved extremely cool (low temp) under any kind of heavy/multi tasks.
Now, with the Mi A2 Lite, after just surfing along the various apps , or just through the phone's menus, or even when idle inside the jacket's pocket, I feel the display area becoming quite warm, and a bit annoying especially when put into my jacket's pocket.
I would appreciate if you could see CPU-Z screenshots and tell me if these temps are normal, or provide a screenshot from your devices.
Thank you.
PS. These temps come even with the energy saver on that somehow keep lower the cores speed/performance (for obvious reasons).
PS2. I am a light/medium user. No gaming.
PS3. Since I am a new user, I cannot put automatic external links (!!!). Please, copy/paste below links to see screemshots.

Overall love

Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the Huawei Mate 20, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the Huawei Mate 20 is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.

I've received my Mate 20 pro in Twilight colour. Got it yesterday, but I'm holding off on it until the weekend to play with it. Here in Norway in does not come with the clear case unfortunatly, but I've ordered a few to come soon hopefully.
it's so quiet in here...mate 20 is under-rated
It's not underated but few people of xda would buy because of lock bl.. anyway expecting mine on friday..

Where did you get yours? Same situation here also from Norway. I find some on various websites but its only the 4GB model. Is yours too or did you get the 6GB one?
I got it a few days ago and I am seriously impressed overall, especially with the hardware.
Previously I had a HTC 10 which I loved dearly, but was betrayed by a fast degrading battery (see HTC 10 forum, 90% of threads are about it). It got to the point where i had to permanently dock the phone to a bank because it could no longer hold a charge.
This thing though, oh boy. The fact that I don't have to charge it for 2 days is enough of a reason for me to love it. I need to get used to how big phones are these days, I've already dropped it once trying to lock the phone with one hand starting with a grip on the upper half of the phone (I know, real awkward, had doritos grease on the other hand). I can barely toss a ball in pokemon go now because it's so weird moving my finger the extra distance. I've also had to scale down all the UI elements so my eyes can read everything more easily like my last phone.
It's a ton of fun though. I will be sure to look after this thing's health more than my HTC, with greenify and a native Android Oreo OS, I hope I don't have to change phones for a long time.
Best phone ever
Have been using it for 24 hrs now. Comming from a OnePlus 6 the battery is amazing and I love the camera! Great phone overall.
Yep, got one last weekend also (Midnight Blue) and coming from a 2 year old Galaxy S7 Edge I'm blown away by the battery life! I'm at 9h of SOT after 1 day and 19h off the charger and I'm still at 28% LOL! It's almost indecent, that's what it is! And this is just my first charge... I happily give up wireless charging for this kind of battery performance. The S7 Edge barely gets 4h of SOT and something like 30h before dying. And it's not just the battery capacity, it's also about the OS optimization which the Samsung messed up about 1 year ago.
Although still not a perfect device, it does some things so well (impressive battery, remarkable screen - I'm looking at it next to my S7 Edge and I can't believe it's an LCD!, tiny notch, superb - I'd say flawless - construction) that in my opinion brings it closer to 5 stars than to 4 stars

I agree, battery life is insane on this phone. I tracked my battery consumption for one month using AccuBattery. On average I had a 4% drop in battery life for every screen on hour. The corresponding number for OnePlus 6T was 7%. Everything on this phone is top notch except EMUI.

Yes, that's more or less what GSam Battery Monitor shows me, around 4-5% battery usage during screen on. At the same time I get around 4% battery drain per 48h due to wakelocks, mostly Play Store Services localisation (GPS always on).
Useful information about the 6T by the way. I almost got that one for the OS and the in-screen fingerprint scanner, but I couldn't get pass the much higher than average SAR value. I expected the Mate 20 to have better battery life than the 6T (even with its LCD screen), but I didn't expect it to be this good.

I actually think Mate 20 is superior OP6T in almost every way except the user interface. I bought a used OP6T since I was dissatisfied with EMUI on Mate 20. However, after using OP6T a couple of days I sold it and went back to Mate 20 for the following reasons.
- As already mentioned, the battery life is clearly better on Mate 20.
- Mate 20 is the prettier phone, smaller bezels and overall nicer looking compared to OP6T.
- Speed is more or less the same but I felt that Mate 20 was slightly faster when opening apps.
- The rear camera is slightly better on Mate 20. Probably due to the large 1.55um pixels on the main rear sensor on Mate 20. I also missed the ultra wide angle sensor on OP6T.
- I like the screen quality better on Mate 20. Blacks are deeper on OP6T due to AMOLED but bright backgrounds look better on Mate 20 and I also felt that the screen on Mate 20 was more crisp and vibrant.
- The screen size is clearly larger on Mate 20 due to 6,53 inch and 18:7 aspect ratio. The screen on OP6T is too narrow and do not feel that much larger than a regular 6 inch 18:9 screen.
The hardware design of Mate 20 with the UI of OP6T would more or less be the perfect smartphone.

Asking for review 4/64gb variants.

Greetings,
I need several Information regarding Zenfone Max pro M1 4/64gb. Here is the question.
1. How much time does it take to get charged from from 20℅ to 80%.. (I know it comes with 5v/2A and 5000mah battery that's why asking)
2. How much does it drain when in idle? Did battery degrade hugely with time?
3. Any lag on Pubg? With gfx tool how much graphics can you get? Is there any lag with it too?
4. How is the build quality? I didn't use any Asus phone so.
P.S. I am not asking for ROM development as I saw this forum is blessed with @krasCGQ . He is the guy we can rely on with eyes closed. Hope more is coming from him.
Cheers.
I don't think any of the questions are related to only the 4/64 variant, but I do have that very variant
1. Check the attached screenshot. It does slow down charging speed past 75%, so there can be a difference of around 10 minutes.
2. I've been getting 3-5% drain with 6 hours of sleep, data and WiFi off. Can't comment on degradation since I purchased it recently.
3. I don't play PUBG
4. So far so good, I do use a tempered glass on mine, since there's no gorilla glass or any other protective glass.
Total charging time--- from 20-80% --- Around 1.5 hrs
Battery hardly drains 2% overnight...No battery degradation...phone is not even an year old
No lag in pubg..but you can push it to higher settings with gfx tools...But if you play at extreme fps and hdr...it heats up a little...
No complaints in build quality....it has metal back...
Go for it
Hit thanks if it helps

Huawei Mediapad M5 Lite 10" vs Samsung Tab S2 VE T813

Hi Guys,
Been searching for a cheap tablet with reasonable performance to run around the house, what's your take on these 2 options?
pros and cons?
My own opinion:
The recently released the Huawei has a better and modern layout / design and a fresh battery.
The Tab S2 has better screen, better performance.
About the same price at the moment.
Any help would be appreciated.
Similar to the m5 lite there also the galaxy pad a8 2018, but unfortunately lack of fingerprint reader...
Tapatalked with A8 2018
There is probably lots more support for the Tab S2 if that's important to you.
I bought SM-T719 last week for 299Eur. Nice small tablet. Amoled is great, came with android 7 preinstalled, battery has no drain when idle, is fast, LTE did not try yet.
EDIT : the battery life : I still had 80% battery left after 95minutes of browsing (on-screen time), so that makes the battery life 475 minutes, or almost 8 hours. I have the tablet on for couple of days. That is very good battery life.
