I am looking to buy zenfone 2 ...2.3 gghz with 4 gigs ram
Is it a worth buy??
I am asking because i am spending my hard earned 20000 bucks for a flagship
...
Are the bugs like call drops and battery software related?
Is it a isssue that could be fixed? Or hardware?
Both hw and sw bug, really disturd your life, i suggest do not buy this zenbug 2

I really don't know what are yall talking about. Yes there's a battery drain that's characteristic of 5.0 but easily manageable. I can get 5h SoT without too much hassle, and no dropped calls. But hey, to each their own. [emoji1]

And that's why I don't let myself get carried away by what people say. Positively or negatively, I bought this phone 2 days after it dropped in Taiwan. Yeah saw some issues, mostly coming from and S3 on custom roms and me being a custom Rom maintainer myself. But I saw the potential that this Rom can have and with a few tweaks here and there, runs like a champ.

Read again, I'm saying that me switching from an S3 on custom Rom to Asus stock was a change and saw the issues first hand but nothing that could be fixed with a few tweaks.

Maybe you are a lucky man with a bug-less fone :good:. Apart from battery drain, my fone had broken the power button, sim card 1 slot error, and especially wrong battery calibration which many user experience here :

Really sad that you had a bad experience with the phone. Personally other than the battery drain and self inflicted errors, mine has been totally different.
i came from S3 too..and IMHO is, my ZF2 beats my S3 in all terms, except there's not much user/developer involvement yet..unlike S3, everyday there are new updates or release on custom rom/kernel.. we just have to pray for ASUS to unlock their bootloader.. and currently ZF2 is on android 5.0..altho its buggy, hopefully ASUS brings 5.1.1 update to it..

Alot of mixed reviews ..
I think i ll wait more ...
One plus one is great too
As someone who owns a gs6 edge and a HTC m9 I have to say the Zenfone is totally worth it. Battery life has been great compared to the other two, performance is fast and fluid, the camera is good, the screen is beautiful. I'm actually considering using the one I got at the launch event as my daily driver. Right now I use the edge as my DD with my m9 as a backup. At 299 you can't go wrong. You get the most bang for your buck. I was very skeptical about the Intel soc performance but so far I have zero complaints about it.
I am absolutely delighted with mine. Was on a very restricted budget (had to buy two, one for me and one for my wife) so only got the 550 but actually glad I did because I'm not fussed about NFC or having a few less sensors, I find the 720p screen an acceptable compromise, and the bang for the buck is phenomenal. Yeah, there are a few flaws or irritations, but nothing major for me. There's a great deal of satisfaction in having got so much for so little

Thanks for your reply ...
I know the chipset is very very fast ...
But there are people who are getting physically defective devices as well .. May be asus is bad at quality check?
Also dev support is a big question mark on intel sOc.? Because any company will stop the development for its old devices with passage of time ..
So we might not see next versions of android on zf2.
And it is difficult to live with the old stock rom throughout the time you own it ..
The present bugs might be fixed with ota updates... I GUESS :/

This is exactly my case too. The only thing I would add is the support from Asus does come. Everyone uses the phone differently and some bugs annoy more people than others, but for me it was the music playback stuttering when other apps were used, but that was fixed in today's update. Credit to Asus, they are fixing the issues.
One of the people who came from the s3, except I had the locked down Verizon version, so no roms for me.
This phone is 100% better in every way, and I'm absolutely delighted with it --- there's a few little software bugs I've noticed, but I doubt most people would notice them, and then there's the battery drain.
Even with the battery drain, I can't complain one bit about battery life, so I can't wait for 5.1!
I bought one...
I bought one based on several factors but here is one piece of info that most people should know prior to purchasing.
The 4g Ram 2.3Ghz Version is the only one that comes with the 18W charger!!! So the phone does get hot when it is below 60% charge due to the 9 Volt 2 Amp charging. After the phone reaches 60% it steps down the 5V 2A which will allow the phone to cool while still pumping in the juice at a fairly good rate.
The heat is an expected side effect of the massive flow of power into the battery.
My opinion on the subject... Keep the 18W charger in your car/purse/backpack/briefcase, and use a 5v 2A charger for everyday charging. :good:
Heat+Electronics=Bad things especially when it comes to batteries. :crying:

The phone and quickcharging implementation are designed around that... It's well-known that these accelerated charge solutions pump a lot of juice and ramp up the heat.

At 1/3 of price
Ok, this is a completely personal opinion. I'm normally a lurker in that I've used xda for years with various devices. However, never have I been more disappointed with a phone then with the zenfone 2. My decision to leave behind the device and android is simply on my experience.
For me I made the purchase whilst in Hong Kong. I moved to windows phone last year and couldn't fault it's speed, usage, memory management or battery life. My 1320 held a charge for days and days. Simply fab.
But whilst in HK I saw, numerous times, the advert for the zenfone 2. It looked good and with the 64gb and 4gb ram combo I just thought wow. So I went for a look and a play. It wasn't an impulse purchase, I took my time over a number of days, plus did my research on the device where reviews said it was a great flagship killer. Fantastic, plus the price in HK was great. So I got one. I added a zenwatch to accompany it.
But, and here's the rub for me. I've had this now for just under 2 months. Despite a large battery, 3000 mah, the sot is pathetic. I've read all the guides, have greenify, rooted the device, used boot manager and xposed, disabled and changed the wakelocks and alarms and its still pathetic. Most of all when you spend out on a device I feel strongly that you shouldn't need to do all of this just to get decent use out of it. The fact that the android OS is still a battery eater just baffles me. The speculation and promise of 5.1.1 just carries on, and whilst there now an abundance of customs coming out I must ask, why can't the manufacturers just listen to its market??!!
So, whilst many people will probably be haters and winner why I've posted this, simply I think those researching about this device should see this opinion. This is also from someone who used android for years, has used iOS and is no stranger to custom ROMs.
The zenfone 2 could be a winner. Emphasis on could. But it's system abuses the battery rather than showing what can be achieved. The camera is average, and on the whole has been a real disappointment.
In conclusion, I respect you all sticking by it, totally respect the devs for bringing cm, paranoid, slim and all the other customs to the device. I truly do. For me it just shouldn't be this way.
So I'm now going to run off, hide, and return once and for all to to windows phone.
Cheers.

Dude, i respect your opinion, but forgot something very important.
windows phone, Iphone, Android high gamma (samsung, sony, Lg) 600/1000 USD
Asus Zenfone2 299 USD
good luck !!!
Lumia 930, less cost than zenfone 2, let alone if I went 640xl.
But for me, buying a smart phone shouldn't need so much modding to make it work great.
IPhone. Been there once, never again. At the end of the day I don't need a million apps. I need my stable free, plus battery life so I can use my device for work and play. I can't get that on the zenfone I'm afraid, well not without a charger always in my pocket
Sent from my ASUS_Z00AD using XDA Forums
Good luck! The Asus Zenfone 2 is one of the most confusing devices, I've come across. It's battery life has been receiving mixed reviews, and has been the main reason why I'm still waiting for 5.1 or CM12 beta to be released for it, before I buy. I read in one of the reviews that even for a single piece of zf2, the battery performance is not consistent. The delay in releasing 5.1 by Asus is also frustrating. x-(
i have no problem with battery, with normal usage no need charge during day. 2 sims, 4g always on and many social apps in background.
You can run win7, so more powerfull, more handy and battery life fantaztic compared to netbook and is only a chiper phone so what more?
When you invest on something and it doesn't give the required result, it really feels terrible. Right now, this is the situation with ZF2 users. But still, I have hope on ASUS that they will give 5.1.1 update soon. Hope for the Best!
Asus released zenfone max today 5000 milli amp battery, I am afraid this is their answer to battery usage, not 5.1.1
I wonder what all people, who complain about SOT in ZF2, do when they're screen is on.
But our mileage varies, I guess. Never had a problem with battery life with the ZF2.

I'm holding out hope for 5.1.1....but if we don't get it by September, mid to late, I'm going to take the hit, sell this, and get the Moto X Pure edition. Can't fault Asus with their continuous firmware updates, good on them for continuing to try. But with the constant news of major vulnerabilities in the various Android versions, I must have a device I know will be supported for a good long while, and Moto is now proving to be king with that regard.
Why people thinks is bad? now is summertime, in winter will not battery drain. If you work in cool place you will never expect battery issue...
Two day is not enough for a smart phone? How had to be supposed battery life? You say me that other smartphone is too long then zf2? Maybe 3 dayz?
Think people get a bit hung up on the battery life partly because of the way it is reporting it as android OS using a lot, rather than it actually being particularly bad. It certainly isn't fantastic battery life, and is quite variable depending how you use it, but I generally get through a day without recharging and get around 4 to 6 hours SOT. That's on performance mode with Max brightness too. Good enough, certainly better than my old iPhone 5 which used less juice when sleeping but drained fast when screen was on, especially texting, Facebook and camera. So I am OK with the zenfone (Mine is the 550 though). I also think general performance is satisfactory and the camera is passable. Considering the price, I don't think I can have any major complaints. I am still happily enjoying my zenfone everyday

You can if manufactures are thinking lol. Seriously, they could have used the Snapdragon 615 and kept the resolution the same for performance . Oh well at least it offers a better value (IMO) compared to the Moto G since it cost like $160.

Everyone is entitled to their choice, and I certainly won't fault you for your decision to leave the Zenfone 2 behind.
I'm not a fan of Windows Phone myself, but I will agree it's more efficient than Android, and runs smoother on lower-end hardware. For me though, it just doesn't have the selection of apps I prefer, nor the customization of Android.
Either way, your concerns with the Zenfone 2 are justified, and I can understand why you are getting rid of it. I personally love it, but then again I can live with the battery
Personally I share the same sentiments on the ZenFone 2. I came from an Xperia T2 ultra Dual. 6 inch 720p display kitkat and 3000mAH battery and I have to say ZenFone 2 sucks in the battery life department but is flawless operation just rocks. I would get 2 days of battery on a single charge on the T2 ultra with light usage but the phone froze once in a while. Now with the ZenFone 2 551 2gb 16gb, with a 3000 mAH battery i hardly get 8hrs of life on 1 charge. Am forced to look for quick charge 2.0 car charger and travel charger. I left home at 12pm with a full battery and made 3 calls of 10minutes max, replied to this forum and about 30 mins of browsing and 2 and half hrs later it's at 59% WTF!
If it were the Xperia i would have been at 95-90 % on battery.
On a positive side the ZenFone is a performer minus the battery life issue.

Never heard about someone succeeding to do it... Just lot of people willing to... The only solution I've heard about is chrooting linux distros... kinda dirty way to run an OS, in my opinion...
Not sure about anyone else but I've had no issues with mine either with battery or beat-up of lollipop (knock on wood). I've had tons of android phones and my last was the galaxy s5, this zf2 has exceeded all my expectations and the battery life is about the same as my s5. For the price, this phone packs a punch, if anyone wants the perfect phone then you'll probably be spending twice or three times the price and I'm sure you'll pick something wrong with that phone also but now it's an 800 dollar phone instead of 299 ?

I am cautiously optimistic. I love the phone so far more so than any other previous phone I've had. Certainly Growing Pains being a brand new unit. Battery life is the best of anything I've had so far not as good as some of the ones posted here but much better than my previous phone which I really couldn't ask for more.

Google is full of click-bait articles that places like Forbes has people write. They intentionally write biased things to get people worked up. If you need to READ someone else tell you about possible problems with your phone, why bother having the phone?
The phone is the best made to date. Battery life is very good. As an entire package there is not a better device you could buy currently. What a worry to have. In 6 months something a bit better will come around, but I don't know if you should bother buying it - I am sure there will be articles written about it that could cause worry in one way or another.

An excellent phone with a very very good battery life.
Mine is S8 duos exynos. Wi-Fi, BT, BT tethering, 4G, location services, auto sync all on.
Location history is off though and it does make a noticeable difference.
When the guy says Bloat and Battery Life I'm like puzzled look.
My S8 has almost no bloat for the first time in ever and my battery is amazing really.
Lasts easily 19 hours without a charge.
I think people want to moan when it's really not justified, that and they're probably Apple Bots lol
yes
Don't read Reviews on Forbes and the likes, my battery life is excellent to say the least and there's no bloat
overall like the phone but a couple of features i was used to our dear sammy has decided to remove from this phone
1) night clock - used this everyday and miss it like crazy.
2) Ability to select a folder for lock screen images and have them change every time the phone turns on.

Meh, as always it differs... I don't own the S8 (yet ) but do have the S7 (and have had all the galaxy S's so far).
I actually just read the forbes review and a large number of their remarks are 'personal' and/or 'choices you make when buying'.
Camera performance: it focusses on a few points instead of the entire picture or some other points. But does mention the 'overall' picture depends on the user.
Performance: I now have the S7 for over a year and do not recognize the 'slowing down after a few months' at all. It's pretty damn smooth and stays so for me (perhaps also a snapdragon vs exynos thing?)
Battery life: Different people can get different experiences, hell even I sometimes have a crazy drain... That's the thing with android, so much variations all.
Volume/bixby/fingerprint scan: Yeah, the bixby button is nonsense but you know it's there... Same with placement of volume buttons and fingerprint scanner. You can try them in the store and see if they work for you. Location of the sensor wouldn't be mine but it's something you can try out yourself and see if it will be an issue for you.
Anyway, still pretty interested in the S8 but I'm afraid it's a bit too tall for me... Might get it when the price is down a bit and/or I can get it nice 2nd hand. Samsung was always very bloated and while it could be a lot better it's actually not too bad now imo (with the S7). Touchwiz has improved a ton as well. But that's just samsung, you know what you get into.

Thanks for sharing your experience! All those negative reviews(including here) made me to question the decision.

you would be surprised about the length some company go for every little market percentage.
they have the lawyer firms on retainer anyway, so why not put them to use, no matter how bizarre it is.
especially apple who sue everyone just to keep them from selling their products. even if its just apple pie..
no kidding... https://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/oct/07/apfelkind-cafe-trademark-battle-apple-germany
The best phone I had ever had in my life for the budget. If you can afford a more expensive phone I dont think this phone gonna impressed you but if u're like me coming from a mid range 400$- phone u're gonna love this and will realize how overrated other brands are.Coming from a previous Galaxy Alpha owner which cost 480$ on release date.
Even compared to other flagships 1+ 5 is still hanging right with them, that says a lot
Best phone ever, got rid of the Galaxy S8 after 2 days because i got sick of all the crap, lags and framedrops (games) and bloatware on it. Can nothing but recommend the OP5 despite all supposed/rumored issues :silly:
Happy with it too. No Jelly, no nothing.
and now all oneplus paid trolls are posting here
No issues here To all. INSANE battery life. 9+hours sot. I get 3-4%/hour battery drain combined sot/idle. FAST FAST FAST. Just everything good on my end.
I still am a tad apprehensive to buy an OP5 over G6 due to camera (video and wide angle lens) and that design/ display where as OP5 has great performance, better battery life, better software and will most probably have better long term life in terms of battery and performance.
anyone who used both can shed some light on my apprehensions?

Seems you are the troll here ha ha
Do yourself and those of us that don`t have issues a favour and just buy another phone and go troll there
I'll tell you I've had many brands of phones throughout the years, and none of them are as refined, smooth, efficient as this OP5....
Stick to Oxygen OS is my advise, I've always been a fan of AOSP and LOS based ROMS, but only with the OP5 I keep coming back to stock.
Enjoy the phone is my last advise. Use a custom kernel, you'll find your favorite, they save tons of battery, besides making the device EVEN smoother and efficient.
The thing is a beast.

I would very much appreciate if you could tell me where to collect the money you are talking about.
Shortly, Best phone i've ever owned: battery life (SOT), performance, shell temperature, ram, storage performance, stock feeling. And i've owned quite a lot.
This is the first android i've seen that doesn't lag when installing apps (!!!)
Display is really ok, and personally i am glad they keept the 1080p for efficiency and performance reasons (i've used 1080p also on s7).
What bothers me is the standby battery life (still better than my previous s6/s7). The wifi seems to consume more battery than other devices
I notice the jelly effect but that doesn't bother me.
What? I bought my OP 8 Pro a week ago, now there's a better version on the way.
Okay, I LOST.
Any true leaks?

They come our every six months mate. This is known.
But at the same time what exactly are they going to improve?
The CPU is the same albeit the + version.
I wouldn't be surprised if there were cross platform ROMs.

I'm pretty confident it'll be the exact same screen..
Personally haven't got a problem with mine even before they lowered the max brightness.
There will be something to pull us end users towards it..doubt it'll be a hole punch again, won't be the same place if not.
I dunno.

Perhaps the chip is the only difference, 865 plus.
But yeah, I'm satisfied with the 8pro, the T version is gonna cost a lot apparently.
Wrote this in the other thread, got closed so gets my two cents on the 8T or what I'd expect
The difference will be small incremental changes / updates, the 8 is already a pretty much perfect phone, I cannot fault it; maybe the battery if anything.
Remain
-----------
Screen will remain the same
Size will remain the same
Speakers will remain the same
Battery may / should get a bump
RAM will remain the same
Storage will remain the same
Connectivity will remain the same
Photochrom will be dropped entirely
Buffs / changes
----------------------
Price will see a bump
Charging speed will get a bump
Camera bump from 48 - 64MP
Front camera may get moved to centre or an additional one added, won't be a pop up.
CPU / GPU will be the + variant, honestly at this point it matters a lot less than it would have a few years back, the 865 standard is so powerful the bump to the + may be negligible unless they retain performance and really work on the stamina but I can't see it
Design of the phone may change slightly
New camera lens will take place of photochrom, perhaps fish eye or similar, is 3D still a thing.
On a personal note, I wouldn't get the 8T as I already have the 8, for you I would say; if the battery doesn't get a major bump then I'd go with the 8.
Plus the price will drop when the 8T is near it's launch or even announcement making it the obvious choice.
Then again, that's my opinion, it's up to you.
Also all the rumours at this point are just rumours, if you want a good idea of what the device will be like, look out for the next oppo flagship as it's usually a strong indicator of what will be next for OnePlus.
OnePlus bring a phone out every 6 months, however for the first time there is literally nothing that the CPU / GPU cannot run perfectly, there is no need for more speed now, strange territory, will be interesting to see if they keep buffing the performance or work on efficiency, the latter would be the logical choice but I guess time will tell.

You convinced me ?
I won't upgrade my phone for probably 2-3 years if not even more but I was curious xD
Thanks

hahaha, sorry man.
for me finding the sweet spot is a challenge, tbh the Oneplus 8 Pro ticks so many boxes it's an absolute first in my experience, it's just the battery i'd buff if i could.
But lol each to their own

Indeed brother, I also loved the 8pro it's amazing but yeah the battery isn't bad but not the best, I easily get 7h SOT with a good usage and QHD + 120Hz.
The latest update (10.5.13) is good and made the phone sightly smoother so there's still hope for future battery and performance updates xD

I'm just about to unlock and root, this is the longest I've been without unlocking a phone.
Strangely I managed 9 hours yesterday and I wasn't trying so if I'm debloating and or lightening the load can help then I'll be happy with that, plus future updates.

Nice, I always say stock is better but just can't satisfy myself being unrooted ?
I'm rooted and using a custom kernel and getting 7h SOT max with a normal usage. I feel like I could get better with stock but simply want to use a couple of things that require root.
When you root and use a kernel that you think is good, please tell me in PM, I appreciate it, thanks.

I'll always stick with stick kernel, least for now.
Currently testing xXx which is just as I remember it.
Quite impressed that so much can be achieved via a Magisk module Vs a ROM.
If I do jump on kernels I'll give up your a shout how I get on
