Note 4 910f Rom/Root - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm going to root my note 4 N910f with a custom rom once I've rooted.
The rom I've decided is simple rom the first question is will that be fine and what will be the disadvantages to that rom?
I would also like to know if I flash that custom rom onto my note 4 will I be able to use xposed for it? Unsure about all this deodexed stuff
Thank you in advance for any help.

It will be fine with no disadvantages.. I've used SimpleRom for a couple of months (then I got bored of TouchWiz and I've moved to AOSP) and I can tell you that SimpleRom is one of the best TW ROMs for our device.
SimpleRom v4f comes with Xposed preinstalled.

That's fine mate, how should I go about backing up everything before I root and flash a rom?

My advice is to just save your important files (pictures, videos, documents...) on your pc and, after root, install twrp and perform a clean install of the ROM (wiping system, data, dalvik, cache) and start all over again.
A fresh install (and without restoring backups) is always better to keep the best performance of the ROM. Of course you'll can put back your picture, documents, etc with no problems.
When you'll get familiar with root and recoveries, you'll learn how to backup properly with apps like titanium backup and/or make nandroid backups with your recovery.

The latest Gingerbread is XXLC2. Yes, you can flash an ICS Rom, but I'd wait a bit if I were you. You need to learn quite a bit before being able to cope with Beta ICS Roms.

First you need to flash an older Rom so you can successfully root it. THis is how it's done:

There are ways to improve your Note's performance without root, yes. But you won't be able to significantly improve it. Too much bloatware in stock Roms that you cannot successfully remove.
Thanks
Thanks so much for the reply, but i m on 2.36 already, do i need to flash?
I suggest you to stay on LB3 and wait for Official ICS to release. however ICS AOSP ROMs are available Here . Before you flash any AOSP ICS ROM you need to root your device and other all details are available on above linked Development page.
But my phone's model is N7000B, will that affect?
Well, I think flashing ROMs these days is pretty easy. I am no expert but I've had no problems with flashing different ROMs as such and I flash new ROM every week or two. I am currently using Imilka's AOSP, which is generally pure ICS Android. Before this I was using CheckROM HD, great battery life and performance, based on GB.
GB ROMs are a bit easier to flash and have better performance and stability than all these ICS ROMs (apart from Imilka's AOSP, I find it just too good).
Open up the Android Development section for Note, read a few threads thoroughly, decide your ROM and go for it.
Rooting instructions are very well explained by Dr Ketan in his threads. You can't go wrong about it.
To summarize:
1. Flash an older rootable GB ROM through PC Odin.
2. Install ClockWorkMod Recovery (CWM). See Dr Ketan's guide.
3. (OPTIONAL) Install Titanium Backup and backup all your apps and their data. (Use batch operations)
4. Boot up into CWM, scroll to backup/restore and create a backup of your current ROM. This is a VERY VERY IMPORTANT step. Just in case anything goes wrong or you're not happy with your new ROM, you can go back to your older, original GB ROM with all your data and settings intact.
5. Choose your ROM.
6. Read it's thread thoroughly, especially the installation instructions. Do just like the creator says. If there's a video, follow it!
7. (OPTIONAL) Restore your data through TB.
8. Enjoy your new ROM.

What's a good lightweight, no bloat TW rom? I noticed Omega has a lot of additional features, which I would never use like the Xposed framework.
I was thinking of going with Goldeneye, but not sure if it has been updated to support I337M again.

you should try xposed framework ,and wanam xposed .There a lot of xposed module and i can costumize touchwiz like i want, like maximize widget, wich allow me to click on a notification without having to unlock. For shure its a personnal choice.
But in omega you can choose the app that you want ,if you dont want xposed just unselect it ,it use aroma installer when you flash it,you can remove a lot of apps

Goldeneye never lost compatibility with our phones, so not sure what kind of support you expect or require.? IB4STiD simply requested not to complain from Canadian side for known problems, like lack of 4.3 modem for our phone, which we now got.
Simply flash Canadian compatible third party kernel, (one without knox) after flashing goldeneye, that's it.

EDIT: Do you mean the kernel in step 6 in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47819176&postcount=9322
It's in GE thread, first post, Canadian fix. Guess iB4STiD opened it up for us again.
But basically go to original development and whichever tw kernel you pick, follow the links to Canadian or T-Mobile compatible version. Kernel makers usually describe whether we have our own or we should use T-Mobile one

So, as I understand, we absolutely need this Advanced CWM recovery if we are running MK6.
We can't use standard CWM or TWRP recovery?

From what I gather, we can use CWM or TWRP, it just blows the Knox counter and warranty is void. Which is why cf-auto-root can still root, and why u can just throw rom manager on to install cwm (then remove, dont install roms with rom manager). This is only for MK6 (rogers/canadian). I would try a cwm or twrp, and just use cf-auto root to reinstall the stock recovery with odin if you run into problems.

This is only relevant for GE versions 13/14. The latest is GE15. As already explained, just follow steps in 1st post. There is a section called 'Canadian install guide', can't miss it. The fix you flash after the rom is the kernel for our baseband (Step A). Easy as pie. Step B is optional, changes network icons from default to whatever your carrier uses (e.g., 4G to LTE).
I would recommend creating a backup of stock once rooted before flashing custom roms. Not sure if there's ever going to be a fix for resetting knox, but traditionally it was a good idea to have this in case you ever want to revert back to stock and unroot. Also backup EFS to be safe, for more info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308546. I personally had to use an app for that after updating, knox kept preventing me from connecting to the program but that was when OTA was launched, might work for you.

FYI I did it the easy way using the Cyanogen Installer.
Ended with CM10.2 and CWM 6.0.4.4.
Then I flashed CWM Touch 6.0.4.4 from CWM. Downloaded TWRP but did not try it.

You can gain root by following the post above, take note that rooting might trigger your knox counter and void your warranty.
Since you've lost track search and read will be your best option.
So far so good.
Thanks for the Help guys, I managed to do all this and install Philz recovery, but other recoveries wont boot, when i tried to install CM11 through Philz i get Something about an kernel not enforcing, and nothing more but that looping over and over again. Is it even possible to install roms on it?
Any help would be super great

I Found out that Recoveries also changed, and install a CWM that works with 4.4. I'm pretty fine with it now!
Now i'll just be waiting for asop stuff like the rest of the note3 section. Thanks for the Help everybody!

[Q] Question going from a 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 rom

Hi all,
I went with the f2fs-all version of slimkat (a 4.4.2 version) a while ago and everything was great. Now looking to go to a 4.4.4 f2fs rom (probably still slimkat but maybe another) and was wondering if there is something special I must do. I know on some phones you need to take the ota, then you can go with newer versions.... but not sure if that is just to get the latest radio.
My plan is to tibu, then pull that to my pc. same with a nandroid. Then totally reformat in f2fs the 3 relevant partitions. install new rom, possibly kernel if not included with rom. re-copy my backups over and restore. Am I missing any important things? Do I need to go back to a stock rom and non f2fs-all recovery and grab the 4.4.4 update from google for any reason first?
Thanks all.

Skip track with Volume keys S4 I9505

I was wondering if there is a way to skip track with the volume keys without having Xposed installed because I am using stock rom and framwork get my phone stuck on boot. I am rotted etc so if there is anything I| could flash it would be appreciated.
A custom rom.
All Cyanogenmod roms have this feature.
There's a GPE rom with this feature.
And the TW custom roms might have this feature too. You'll have to ask in the TW custom rom threads.
Other than that, Xposed is the only option.
