Hello guys, after a week spent reading news "any other business" on a variety of forum , I find myself having narrowed the circle of this blessed smartwatch that I would buy.
first of all I would like to stay on the 100 € and MUST have the know ANDROID
so my choice fell on these two models
iMacwear M7 http://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_141989.html
ZGPAX S8 http://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_99551.html
which of the two wins do you think?
which of the two is the most followed in the CUSTOM ROM?
I thank you in advance for any tips, even on models that I got lost and maybe are better than these two.
Thanks again!
ZGPAX S8 has more support on XDA. I was tempted by iMacwear M7, it looks good, but went with the ZGPAX S8 for that reason.
I may buy the iMacwear M7 also to see which I like better.
A few things I like better about iMacwear M7, larger battery, replaceable battery, easily accessible uSD card
A few things I like better about ZGPAX S8, better support on XDA, thinner, lighter, better camera placement
I love the design of m7, the only thing I did not understand, is the version that mounts Android 4.2 .. some of the mountain while the other 4.4.
on gearbest it says 4.4 who knows if it will be true ..
what do you think?
If you consider buying on gearbest, you should perhaps also have a look at the K8 android smart watch. I originally wanted to buy the ZGPAX S8, but I decided for the K8 because I like the design better.
the steve but k8 no have micro sd slot expansion.. the battery is low... why you buy this k8?

You are right, it has no TF slot, thats a weak point on the K8. I hope for me 4gb will be enough, at least I don't want to install big games on it. The other specs are quite the same like the zgpax s8 (btw, its a litttle tricky to reach sd card). The battery is 450mah on both, but the screen on the K8 is a little better with 320x320. I decided for the K8 because I like the design better, but thats just my opinion of course. I just wanted to show you as alternative.
but I thank you very much! really in fact this week I slammed a lot to find a good model ..
until now anyway I dwelt on m7, I've found at Chinavasion model with Android 4.4! so far it is the highest-rated!
then in truth I do not care even for micro sd slot, interests me more than anything else that has nice interface clock.
I just hope that it works well with the swapp link APP.
I still have this week to decide well!

Kind of a silly thread, but I was curious if anyone else felt the same way.
I really like my S5 but was feeling like it was going to feel dated once the S6 was announced as I always like the shiny new toys but am probably not going to update for another year or two.
Now I think the S6 and especially the edge look amazing and are going to be sweet phones but am feeling like I made the right decision when I decided to get the S5 last year. It actually seems pretty cool now that I will have the best Galaxy S series phone in terms of display/performance/battery life that still has a removable battery, microsd and is water resistant. Not to mention that custom ROM development for Lollipop is maturing nicely and that the Exynos chip in the S6 may be hard to develop for.
Just felt like patting myself on the back, please share your thoughts ?

I feel the same completely! I am glad with my choice. Specially the fact that ours is still Water Resistant. Plus the battery pops out and SD card stuff. Even though S6 active probably will come out and give the water resistance! After seeing S6 Edge, yes we might not have the same look and feel, but hey at least the plus points weigh in better!
The removable battery is one of the main reasons I chose the S5.....The other 2 phones on my shortlist were the Sony Z2 and the Htc 1 m8, both of which are lacking in that department......though at least THEY have microSD slots.......
If this is Samsung's idea of progress, the S5 will be my last Samsung device........

I appreciate more my S5. I also feel that I made the right decision when I bought it last year. Waterproof, removable battery, expandable SD,and it runs damn good. Also the development will go a lot far cause we have the Snapdragon SoC,the story cant repeat for S6 too which is equipped with Exynos...another flop, like S3. Will Totally stay with S5 and leave S6 in the shops!
I appreciate the fact that I didn't have to spend >$1000 on a new Galaxy flagship last year.
I agree! The S5 is the best phone I have ever had and I like the removable battery and ability to replace SD cards. As far as upgrades go, Samsung just lost my business.
i like the s5 more !! ... it has samsung print over it unlike the s6 feels more premier but alot iphone-ish ... i like the waterproof and the ability of sd card and battery slot
I definitely won't be getting the s6. Not so much because of the battery, but I'm a big fan of expandable storage, and I really don't like metal and glass as build materials. "Premium" to me means durable, not pretty.
Quite happy with my S5, different/newer phones don't determine my like for my current phone unless it's a PoS and I was sick of it anyway, as I was with my Lumia, the reason I got the S5
After the Samsung event today, when the pre-order went live, I got crazy over which one to buy. Even on samsung website, they have put a teaser to select the one I like. For being a note fan, I was inclined towards Note although I loved the edge display of S6 (never liked the 'S' series though). But finally, I took the big step. Ordered one S6 Edge+. Thought why not give a try, I can always change it after a year or two if its not that good, but I gotta try the edge for once.
So, which one did you buy ? (if you thought its worth the upgrade ofcourse). Or do you think I made a mistake ?
Yeah who know's if it's a good choice or not - tell us what it's like when you get it
Note 5 pretty much killed the Note series
I'll get it on 28th. I expected a delivery with the release date, however, I booked mine from BestBuy since they were giving away a free wireless charger (please note that this is not the fast wireless charging pad). I'll post some reviews once I use it for considerable time.:cyclops:

I'm still on my note 2 here. I was waiting for the announcement to decide if I wanted to go to note 4 or note 5.
The lack of SD card and no removable battery killed it for me.
Then I saw the new keyboard case!!
Omg be still my heart! It's been 4 years since my beloved HTC G2 and it's physical keyboard.
I might jump ship from the note and go for the s6 edge +!
I don't use my spen very often...
I like the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge plus, but the battery maybe the big problem which is bother me. Do I need to carry a power bank with it all day lone?
I wonder if existing S6 Edge owners will be pissed since they just bought a spanking new phone only a few months back, and now so soon an upgrade has been released.
Edge+ for me. I rarely used the S-Pen and just bought the Note line due to the large screen. Battery is a concern, but we will see.
Note 4. Samsung makes decision easy.
Being in the UK it would have to be the S6 Edge+. The only issue is that currently my provider (O2) has announced There will be 1 capacity available - 32GB but it hasn't even been 24 hours so I'm hoping it's incorrect.
Currently running 96GB on my Note

Exactly. The only thing good about the Note 5 or S6 Edge+ is the looks, mostly everything else is a downgrade over the Note 4.

Hey fellow loyal Samsung user who don't exist according to Samsung!
Even though I would have managed to get over the fact that for what ever reason the Samsung god decided we are not worthy of Note 5, when I went to O2 website and saw the only option of 32 GB.... I simply just close the tab and went to look at XiaoMi Redmi Note 2!

Right, Note 5 would have been my best choice for an high-end device to buy.
So... I'll buy a Nexus 5 2015.
I got a ship notification for the GS6E+ for a Monday delivery. I guess AT&T had them ready. I just ordered a few hours ago.
Im soo hyped i just got both the S6 Edge+ and the Note 5 pre ordered and im going forum post trigger happy lol I hope they mod, custom rom etc the works on these devices cuz i cant wait to see what these magicians can do with these devices!
which color are u getting, looks like US is getting only the black and the gold version, i was keen on the silver titanium version.
The verizon store owner who is also a friend told me that the gold version looks very classy, as a samsung rep brought it over to the store to show it to him.
I am kinda finding it hard figure out, if i should get the gold or the black
Decided on the edge+ cause i never use the s-pen

Well, I'm not the one to judge what you should or shouldn't buy, however, I wouldn't say its a downgrade in anyway. For further clarification, let me take a few examples of the things people have been complaining about:-
Lower Battery Life
-You might say it has a 200-300 mAh lesser than any competitive device or even older Note devices. However, there is a good reason for that too. The new AMOLED is highly optimized for less power consumption compared to older Note devices. GS6 Edge and Edge+/N5 packs the same Quad HD resolution, hence the screen consumption will be same even though the screen size is bigger since the PPI is reduced in Edge+/N5 (which is again irrelevant to naked eye).
-The 14nm processor is way more power efficient than the older processors used in Note series.
- The non inclusion of SD Card also positively affects the battery life, check google for more info (we will come to the negative side later)
- The LPDDR4 RAM in newer smartphones have double the efficiency (data rate) with considerably less power consumption.
Even though I do not disagree that inclusion of bigger battery with some compromise over thickness would have been better, however, the battery (even though sounds less on paper) is equivalent (if not more) to what we used to get in old note series.
Missing SD Card
This seems to be one of the biggest worries for most of the folks, and they do have a valid reason for that. However, if we talk about why the SD Card hasn't been included, I can tell you its definitely not because SD Card is not supported with UFS2.0. The real reason is due to UFS2.0 being too fast (atleast 3 times of eMMC 5.1 ). When coupled with an SD Card, just imagine the user experience when half the app is running from UFS2.0 while its cache/data is stored in SD Card, that might actually lead to lags. This is the same reason for Apple not supporting SD Cards too (they don't use UFS2.0 though). Although its not the perfect replacement, however, you can pick some cheap sandisk otg flash drives for like 10-15 bux or may be wifi flash drives for like 30-40 bux. At least that's what I use.
Removable Battery
I think they did it to make create that unibody design and give it the premium look. I know it might not be what we were looking for in Note series, however, I do remember the days of the past (like 2 years back) when Samsung was criticized for their cheap plastic models compared to metallic HTCs. Well, guess what, they heard us. Even I miss this one. I'm looking forward to pick one MobilePal QI enabled power bank which retails at around 38 bux. I know we can't carry another bulky device with us all the time, but samsung didn't leave us with much choice in this area.
Missing IR Blaster
I still couldn't figure out what made them get rid of this. I was so much looking forward to this one and this is probably the only thing I would miss on my upcoming flagship. Can't do much here either...
Overall, I do not think Samsung has released a downgrade to its predecessors. The inclusion of amazing hardware [14nm fastest processor, UFS2.0, DDR4 RAM, Fast Wireless Charging, LTE Cat9, Optimized S-PEN, etc] bundled with its fair and unique software does put it above any other flagships in the market ( if we do not consider the price range ). Again, this is not for the sake of any argument, its just as per my analysis. Please feel free to correct me if I've mentioned anything wrong.
If you don't like to call it a downgrade then call it a sidegrade if you like and of cause the SOC, Fast RAM, Software improvements for the SPEN and so on are on the plus side. The problems you name for a SD card would apply to OTG storage just the same, besides you have to have this externally plugged in tearing at the usb port. For now the majority of S6 users seem not to be very impressed by battery time. Maybe software improvements can make that better and the hardware has the potential to deliver equal running times, but for S6 users this promise is not yet fullfilled.
The plastic back of Samsung phone always were a pro argument for me and i did never understand why people cried for metal or glass bodies. A plastic back is light weight, very cheap replaceable. Never had a problem with that while other phones with metal bodies had poor connection strength.
Actually i bought the Note 4 yesterday from my carrier for 19,95€ with contract prolongation while a S6 (without edge) with 128GB would have cost me more than 340€ and S6edge+ will probably be even more expensive while having only 64GB and the Note not be available for Europa at all (at least for now). Paying 300-400€ more for a phone that has some technical advantages and a lot of disadvantages in usability and the promise that regarding battery time it might come close to the note 4 and some of the insufficiencies can be compensated, somehow. Sorry, I don't see this for me.
I think their new commercial slogan will be "Samsung, making decisions easy!".
I used to be a Samsung fanboy from the S2 up to Note 4... but as you all know, Samsung has gone the "apple" way with their phones. I really like removable back cover to change batteries. Both our Note 4's at home have just recently changed batteries because the old ones were bloated.
Now I am thinking of getting a new phone, the S8 looks nice but I am looking for an alternative with similar or specs but removable back of course (except iCrap) ...
Thanks

Good luck. Samsung is still one of the few with a headphone jack even.
Oneplus 5 has the same Snapdragon 835 as the US S8's and more RAM, but people are complaining about camera and "jello effect" issues with it.

Samsung is still a nice option if you like a stock phone. Otherwise you could buy a Oneplus 5 or the upcomming pixel 2

It may not be that easy to find a nice phone with removable battery. I have LG G5 that has removable battery, but that is 2016. I don't believe most people use their phones for more than 2 or 3 years and for that period the built-in battery is enough.
you are getting 64GB internal memory and 4GB RAM what else do you need in this price mate? those brands like Samsung, LG or any other you name it will charge you over $500 for same these specs

Hello folks.
I'm looking to replace my current cell phone. It needs to be an unlocked CDMA (Sprint) phone. Things that are important to me:
high quality screen
processing power
decent storage
Things that aren't that important to me:
camera
I have a price limit of $150. Given the above, I am looking at:
Moto E4
Galaxy S5 (refurbished)
Galaxy J3 Emerge
Moto G4 Play
All of them have 5" screens, but the S5 has the highest resolution (the rest are 1280x720). The S5 also has the highest clock rate.
My concern is that the S5 is using technology from 4 years ago, while the rest are more recent. Should that be a concern, or is the S5 the best option here?
Thanks!

in my opinion, for this expense and one of the best!
I use a Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo and everything works fine.
2 weeks ago there was an update for the S5 over OTA. It is still alive and good.
In USA the normal S5 is still a smartphone that is one of the bestsellers.
I have no need to get another phone.
And the original S5 is better than my neo.

Amoled screen, wireless charging, fingerscan...16mp cam..

Or try a xiaomi mia1
Hello, had a galaxy s5 for around 3 years. My unit had a bit of a network issue, which sullied my experience, so be careful when buying a refurb!
Also, if processing power is important to you, you should note that it has constant slowdowns/stutters and, though not as often, crashes. It also heats up pretty quick and has mediocre battery life, draining pretty fast with any decent usage. The chipset really does not hold up compared to mid range chipsets now imo. Near the time I upgraded, it became nearly unusable for a bit whenever i turned the wifi on, though a factory reset and a sparser app library has alleviated the worst aspects of using the phone. It might be powerful specwise, but in irl use I find newer midrange chips outperform it in day to day use.
I recently upgraded to a redmi note 5 (china) and it was an upgrade in every way. From build to smoothness to battery life (and both cameras but you don't care about that). It also has the 6' display while retaining the same width as my s5, thanks to the 18:9 display. The aspect ratio is great in all apps that aren't games and in general UI use. It also has oreo out of the box and will get updates in the future, unlike the s5.
The redmi 5 plus(china) could also be a replacement that's cheaper, but I can't vouch for the screen on that one. The redmi note 5 has a bright lcd that looks really good. It's not amoled, but the transition hasn't bothered me at all, it's quite excellent! I've gotten compliments on the screen from many friends who have seen it in person as well.
So, yeah, look into the phone and see if your budget can be adjusted. Shoot for the 3/32 GB which is a steal imo. Oh, and it has a micro sd card slot, just like the s5, so storage won't be an issue. Another plus with these phones is that they actually have a fingerprint scanner that's not trash - another thing from the past that does not hold up.
I looked up the prices for these phones and they seem to be out of the 150$ budget, so, if the budget is rigid you might want to look into the redmi note 4, which can be found for 160$ and has all the same internals as the redmi 5 plus. I cannot vouch for how good the screen is, but it's 1080P IPS LCD. I would personally consider it a better phone to buy than the Galaxy S5 as well (working fingerprint scanner, larger screen, equivalent if not better chipset usability wise).
Anyway, I'm not really as knowledgable as most people in xda but I am a s5 owner, so I figured I'd chip in and try to help.
While S5 is still a nice phone, it is not worth buying one at this time. The best option would be to get current/last year mid end phone. Look at the local market websites, maybe there are good deals. Xiaomi redmi 5 plus is nice phone for low price, also redmi note 4 is nice phone too, you will get better peformance than S5, or at very least the same, more ram, much better battery life due to bigger battery and better chipset, you will get android updates.
S5 is still a great phone.. Do not buy refurbished.. you can find great deals on Ebay.. My cost $110 no dings, or dents or scratches.. Phone actually had very little call time on it.. Moto's IMOP are junk.
Hi ,
I personally think you should go for a newer phone like Honor 8. The main problem i would have with an S5 is the fact that it only has 16GB internal memory. Apart from that it is still a great phone.
With those 16 GB you will always struggle if you want to install many applications and keep Whatsapp data on your phone.

It does support SD Cards up to 128 GB though. I'm a kinda heavy user and never had problems with storage, always around 3-4 GB free in internal. Though I did put my games on my card obviosly (there was some app that does this, I forgot name).
i picked mine up monday for 45$. cracked rear camera glass. still takes photos fine.
anyway, i love the thing. i went from an s7 to an iphone 7 then to and old moto then to this. i love the effing thing. i get 2 days in low power mode with the original battery. im hunting for a parts phone now.
the s5 has issues from what ive heard but so far, im running fine.
After 2 weeks using the S5 of my wife I have to reverse my opinion. I installed latest lineageos 14.1 on it and it works like a charm. With lineageos there is still a lot of internal memory left for apps. Bluetooth which is often a problem for custom roms seems to work pretty well.
I've actually recently bought an S5, and although it is not the best option, the support for it has been huge over time and its still going on with amazing roms like AEX or CrDroid.
The only part I dislike is the storage, because yea 16GB are little to me. And the fact that it is refurbished is good contrary to what people assume, because, then that means its already fixed, you wont have to go through that pain as you would with a new one waiting to fail, that's how it is, you have more chances of a new one having issues than a refurbished one because that one already had them and its already fixed. On the other hand, "refurbished" doesnt always mean "it broke and we fixed it", usually its because people return it to the store, the package is open, they cant sell them as new, even if theres nothing wrong with it, it automatically falls to the "refurbished" category and not many people think of that.
Now, the Moto G4 is actually a better option, it has a good performance, but you should opt for the Plus version with 32GB internal
So, I'd recommend the G4 Plus, if you cant buy that, then the S5 is the way to go
S5 is still going strong.
I would not change it, but I need a dual SIM phone now.
So if you can get one, go for it.
However, I am not aware of CDMA capabilities or tested it, sorry. I have European model...
My uncle gave me his old S5 back in January to replace my dying S4 LTE-A, and with LineageOS 15.1, it feels like a brand new phone
im now rooted and running the latest lineage 14.1 and its awesome.
12 hours of battery, 4 hours of SOT and no issues. these nougat kernels are pretty nice. lol
people talking about storage, flash Lineage, have a clean sd card in and use the SD card as adptive storage. it shows it as all internal storage and works like a charm.

would you recommend the S5 as a backup to the Note 4?
I still have an S5 as a backup phone. Main phone Xiaomei Redmi Note 4x which I bought due to its superior battery life. The S5 imo is still good as backup phone and has an excellent camera (if you stick to TouchWiz based roms).

Hello!
I can definately assure you that:
A. Off the phones you have listed AND
B. Your stated price range
The S5 is your choice!!
It is amazing!! You will not be dissapointed! Unlimited battery life (multiple batteries), screen resolution, clock speed etc etc.
I am currently typing from one! Lol, I have the OnePlus 3 and my good ol' trusty S5! Some tips:
You stated about being older firmware (S5 is marshmallow) whilst others are nougat..... The S5 is one of the most developed phones ever! even still!!! In literally 5 minutes and little knowledge you can flash a custom recovery and then a custom ROM, no root needed. I have used the S5 since the early days and have used pretty much EVERY rom, honestly!
I can suggest resurrection remix as THE most customisable, they have features beyond any other! They have 100% stable nougat build and Oreo also, I use them both. In fact we have multiboot so can run 2 ROMs at once just choose at boot!
We have lots of kernels if you choose to root like myself, this way you can have 2.1 amp quick charge, boot windows or Linux on PC from phone, double battery time, gaming performance and over clocking to 2.84 GHz!!!! The phone is a beast!! It is reliable as hell too! I have had mine rooted for 4 years, overclocked and its given me no worries....And waterproof with a removable battery!!!!!!
Hope this helps, any questions at all please ask, happy to help

Hello.
Please make recomendation for Nougat and Oreo firmwares
Yesterday i sadly lost my trusty i9506 after six years of use and mutltiple roms/flashing adventures. :crying:
Part of me wants to get a identical used phone but i feel that it might be time to move on and thats why i'm making this thread.
I've not been keeping track of the phone market for years and therefore have no clue what to brands are good etc.
This is what i'm looking for in a phone:
Price around 400$
Good Batterylife
Not to big screen (the s4 fit my hand perfectly)
Dont care about camera quality.
Removable battery is a plus but not needed.
Android
Ability to root and flash custom roms with a good dev comunity. (not shure if every android phone has this)
Edit:Headphone jack
MicroSD is a plus but not must
I'm in europe if it's to any help
Thx in advance
Galaxy S6. with Galaxy S7 Edge Battery.

The Pixel 3A I believe should tick all your boxes if you don't want to go with a used device.
Are there any other good alternatives?
