For those who own one of the previous Moto X's. How are the wooden or Leather backs? ie look, feel, and most importantly durability? I was planning on getting a basic black but now I'm intrigued by the leather and wooden options. Any input would be great. All research I've done brings up people's first impressions. I'd like to hear/see how they hold up for a year+.

Yeah I searched around and came up with nothing really. I resubmitted my question over there. Thank you.

If they had a navy or royal blue leather I'd be all over that.
I had the 2013 X with bamboo back and have been really happy with it, but I love the look of the leather this time around and think I will go with that. For what it's worth, I haven't had any durability, discoloration, slipping, etc issues with mine.
Awesome. Thanks for your input. Could you post some pictures of it by chance?

I watched a video of switching from a plastic back to bamboo and both looks like plastic; just the bamboo had a veneer or something over it.. is that true or is it just a very thing piece of bamboo?

The one that comes with the Moto X via MotoMaker is REAL bamboo, the video you watched was the one I linked. That bamboo back was a 3rd party backing hence it was probably fake but the one that ships with the Moto X is real.

ah thanks for the clarification.. so it would be safe to say if i got a wood or bamboo back it cannot be changed so easily?

Pure guessing here btw, if its anything like the Moto X 2014 I dont see why not, especially considering bamboo is stupidly flexible as I'm sure you're aware of but even if it wasn't and was rigid I cant see it being an issue tbh but this is all guessing tbh will only know when people start doing strip downs on youtube lol.
The way the backs attacth onto the Style could be completly different compared to last years model - time will tell.

Hey everyone I just picked this new leather case at my local Best Buy. I saw it online and it was already on back order but checked the local store and they had them. It fits really well and I have been waiting for a good leather case with multiple viewing angles. Just thought I would share.
Any Pictures?
love it

It's Beautiful Widgets app with honeyclock clock skin and Oxygen HD weather skin. It works very well on my A500!
Thanks
I picked up one myself. I love it, its exactly what I wanted. My only complaint is its a little heavier then I had hoped for.
I just bought the case at my local Best Buy. So far I like it but it's kinda thick though.
I got the last one at my Best Buy. I like, the only thing that bothers me is that the front facing camera gets covered sometimes, but I just insert my stylus on that flap on the top right corner so its right under the power button and it keeps the camera in the clear.
It looks a lot better than the one that Acer made. I wish I could return the one I bought at Staples and get that one.
Isn't it covering up part of the volume down button? From the pics it looks like it is.. Can someone confirm?

Yes sir covering up the most importnant one. Volume - for recovery. But if you push on it still works. Just covers a portion of it. Still accessible love this case so far just bought it last night.
Gonna go look at it today. Looks awfully thick compared to the acer one... other than that, it looks really nice.
Are there cut-outs for the speakers?
Edit: Got it. Love it. I found that I can just press the leather strap at the top for volume down. it does slightly obscure the front camera, but it's not like I ever USE it. No one want's to see me anyway. And if I did use it.. I can just pull that strap behind the tab temporarily.
Case looks good but i am having a feeling it will add alot of bulk to the tablet
I bought one and love it. It does add bulk, but it adds protection. The case could probably protect the tablet from pretty decent drop.

I have some real nice photo's of the strap hangs behind when the case is open. (a little sarcasm there).
When the case is open, and the strap is dangling behind the tablet, it hangs EXACTLY in front of the rear facing camera. Makes it kind of odd to take picures.. have to pull the strap up and hook it over the top corner to keep it out of the way.
meh.. i guess that's not too difficult. The stand function is much more stable than the acer oem case was. I still love this.

Yeah, I returned the Acer one back to Staples a couple days after I bought it. Not only was it cheap feeling and poorly fitting, but it either shed or attracted an insane amount of dust/lint. Every time I opened it my screen was practically frosted.
So now I have this Targus case the OP bought. It's definitely protective and high quality and the built in stand is great, but it's huge. I know it is supposed to resemble a portfolio so I'm not surprised at the size. At the moment, there really isn't anything better from a reliable manufacturer, so I'll probably switch to this from my usual In-Case neoprene slipper case. I'd love a rigid, snap on style case with screen cover like their Magazine case for the iPad. Keeping my fingers crossed
based on all the positive feedback I purchase the truss case today. It is a bit bulky, but I do not mind the heft, because it gives me a good piece of mind knowing the a500 is protected. I wonder how long the elastic on the closing strap will last with it being pulled and turned around all the time. Overall, it seems to be a great case.
When open place the strap over the top. It's out of the way and keeps the tab in his case
Don't think this has been posted, but apparently this danish site got a "close-to-final" retail sample and has put up and unboxing + review of it.

Must admit, I had the same feeling after watching that and sticking to my HOX. I'm not gonna cancel my pre-order though, I'm sure I'll love it when it comes.
I'm of the opposite opinion. It's looking better as I see it being handled more and more by reviewers. A big issue with phones this size is usability with one hand. Contrary to the specs it seems the Samsung may actually be narrower than the One X, and the rounded profile will give better reach. I like my One X very much. It's built stunningly well and feels very good in the hand, but even with my good sized guy hands I can just barely reach the ends of the screen as well as the hard buttons at the bottom without repositioning my hand.
The strengths and weaknesses of these two phones complement each other so well that there's nothing between them overall net. (The One XL has none of the problems the One X does since they have different chipsets and screens). Thankfully that glossy battery cover of the SIII can be changed. It's my biggest issue with this phone. If physical usability in the hand of one is much better than the other it will be the trump imo. I think I will return my One X and wait till the SIII releases. Maybe I'll end up getting another One X, but considering how different these two phones are and considering I'm in this for two years (contract) I want to be sure I'm getting the right one.
How funny they've made a magnetic cover for it like what the iPad 2 has.
That blue colour just looks better and better the more I see it. So glad my pre order of the white version cancelled itself lol

Is it me or does that back cover look so much better than any other photo taken from the unpacked event? I mean the back cover and the finish actually looks really nice in the video when he took the phone out of the box

I just wanted to make a quick post to show some pictures of the new case that I got in today. I just couldn't find a whole lot of post about cases and none about this one specifically.
I'll use it for a few days to go into further detail about day to day use.
First impressions are great due to the overall look and feel of the case.
It has an awesome texture that feels like very fine sandpaper that's been used and is now smooth if that makes any sense. It also fits perfectly with a very durable and tight fit. It doesn't feel like its going to fall off or wear and lose form but only time will tell.
It also has an open top and bottom which I love simply because I can use my Audio Technica headphones again without having to take my case off every time I want to listen to music. I would love to have a closed top and bottom that also fits the headohone jack but that wishful thinking as I've yet to come across one that does.
The color is great but not the same as the picture on Amazon. It's much darker in person which isn't a bad thing just not what I expected. Even still I'm glad that I got to get a colorful case as I missed out on the Cyber Monday Moto Maker deal and had to settle for a woven white TMO Moto X. Not complaining, just kind of bummed I didn't get my custom paint job. This case is a nice alternative.
I also like that the Anker branding on the back isn't tacky and huge. Most case makers need to take a note and not slap their ugly logo or lame name all over the case and if they want too then at least make it small like Anker did. Keep it simple.
That's all I can really say at this point but will update later after a few days of use.
Here's the link in case you want to snag on for yourself:

Yeah the color looks nothing like yours. I have a case just like it but mine is from bear motion. It had more colors to choose from. I bought a gray and red/brown. I will probably get a green one soon. Very nice cases.
Yeah, I saw the Bear Motion cases after I had already placed my order. No big deal though because I love the blue color of the Anker. How have the cases held up over time? They seem really durable.

Just got my black BearMotion case which is pretty much the same thing as this, and the feel is great. I have a White Woven back and it was hella slippery. This case helps a ton, is very minimal, thin, and feels great in the hands.

I actually just got them yesterday, so unsure how they will hold up. The blue looks great, I will probably purchase one in that color too. Well as long as my wife lets me. lol
These are available on ebay with no branding. I've got a black one it's nice. There's also a frosted clear case, with same form factor, which is the best case ever. Love how slim these are, and how they don't interfere with front of phone at all. Do wish they covered top and bottom though.
I could use some help with whether or not I should purchase this phone. I currently have an AT&T Note 4 and is starting to die, the camera makes an awful noise when trying to focus. I also am done buying from AT&T directly. I am trying to decide between this and the Nexus 6p. I like the feature of expanded memory and the slightly cheaper price of the Pure. I am leaning towards the Pure but have a question about the feel of the wood back, does it have a nice feel just like the regular silicone back? If anyone who made theirs with one of the wood backs could tell me their experience that would be great also if others could relay general thoughts/feelings on their experience with the phone would be awesome!
Thanks everyone in advanced!
I bought the wood back. And it feels like wood. A little slick, definitely not going to be "sticky" like the silicone for sure. I put the Vena clear case in it though and its all good now.

Great hardware for the money. Stock ROM is light, fast and close to aosp. Custom ROM scene is strong now that MM development is in full swing. Easy to unlock and root. It's about as close to nexus as you can get and have a microsd.
My only complaint is it's a bit bigger than I'd like. It's a little much for a pocket and I don't like belt clips. However, I've said that about my last three phones and I never end up with a smaller one.
I went back and forth between N6p and Mxpe for the last two months. Decided on the Mxpe and am much happier with the size, price ($350 amazon sale 32gb), and performance. It's a home run for me, good luck!

That is what I have been doing, not for a couple months haha, but close. I am sick of not having root on my Note 4 also sick with Samsung and the TouchWiz lag. I don't even use the fingerprint scanner on my Note 4 so I really do not think I would miss not having it on the Pure. Thanks for the reply, no one has told me I would regret buying either one but I am definitely leaning toward the Pure.
I just switched from the Galaxy S6. So far so good. I do miss the fingerprint scanner and the ease of the camera app on the S6.
I like it a lot. The speakers are great. I have several BT speakers but use it as is quite a bit. The stock software is excellent.

I am thinking of getting a skin for my OP5 (black is kind of boring...) I looked at dbrand, but then come across xtremeskins - I like their color better... (I am planning for an Eva-01 color scheme from Neo Evangelion, sorry anime fans...) Any one has experience with Xtremeskins? Good/Bad?
Thanks!
I've used them loads of times they have great customer service and fast dispatch times. The skins themselves I can't fault at all they could use some new ones but thats just my issue of how many I bought lol
Oh and I will say the one major issue with them compared to the likes of Dbrand is you have to pop out all the cut out ports yourself. they're cut into the skin already but not taken out for you and it can be a little annoying at times.
Yeah - used a few times. Decent skins. Price has slowly come up tho :~(
Its all the same stuff. 3M car vinyls with no grip. Some have the ability to print custom designs on them (like car wraps). Really it all comes down to how precise the cut is, or how forgiving per say, from manufacturer to manufacturer.
This Affriction guy I keep hearing about though... got mad at all of those guys and created one himself that offers grip. I think he put post up in this section. He even discounted for xda peeps... cause he is also one of them.
Shameless plug,
Affriction.
Yup used them twice now, can't really fault the quality nor the ship time. Especially for me since I'm UK based and their a UK based company. Far quicker than getting anything from dBrand or Slickwraps. If it helps here's my most recent video of the S8 skin I had from them:
Yep used them one time, were definitely of high quality! Had a slight issue with mine where the skin was slightly torn, contacted support and they went above and beyond to help me out. New skin they sent out was perfect! Definitely my go to skin company

I took mine off, dbrand lasted ok on a very tight case, this one did not..great they're in the UK but man wish I'd not bothered.
Also Im quite used to fitting these, have done hundreds of them. Fitting was perfect, heat was taken from hairdryer quite well (Dyson) just couldn't take a case.

Well if you have a case that covers 100 percent then the only reason would be so you can take it off and retain some protection.
Or if you don't have 100 percent cover, like the rhinoshield, the back of your phone will be open.
This set up sees to that.

You've misunderstood me..
I'm extremely careful with my devices, so if I'm the office then I will mostly just use the skin as the chances of dropping it are pretty much zero.
But, if I'm going on a night out or I'm out doing something more active then I'll use a case.
The benefit to having a skin is cosmetic yes, it'll offer little to no protection against drops.
But in the case of bumpers it will save the back of the device against scratches.
