Hi,
I'm not really sure if I should be posting this (hardware related) but please excuse me if it is inappropriate here.
I have an LG G2 D800 that I bought couple of months ago. I was in love with the phone. It was giving me 2 full days backup, amazing Cloudy ROM on it that I was enjoying.
Couple of weeks ago I got it wet in rain. I left it dry out for about a week. Everytime I turned it on I was seeing a water spot on the screen so I used to turn it off immediately and let it dry more. Then I took it to LG service center and the guy over there cleaned the board with iso propyl alcohol and that seemed to fix it. But the battery was draining faster than before, it was dying off within a day.
So I took it to the LG guy again, he took it apart again to see if there was any more salt deposits on the board and he cleaned it up again and switched on. The LG logo showed up for about 5 seconds and then it turned off. Then after that, the phone has refused to turn on. No amount of charging, no amount of cleaning up the board has helped. He even checked the board if it has shorted but it hasn't.
He says the board has shorted all through and there's nothing that can be done. BUT I REFUSE TO BELIEVE IT.
What do you guys think? Is the board dead and unrecoverable? How do I go about confirming this?
I need to clear this thing in my head, it is killing me. Please help.
TIA!
Did he try replacing the battery? Or the flex cable?

Nope. Do you think I should? The battery was giving 2 full days (since it is just 2 months old) before the water damage. And then when it did work for two days before it stopped working completely, it was giving 1 day of charge.
Yeah. I think the battery either died or the flex cables has gone bad

Ok, thank you for the reply. One other thing that I should have mentioned is that, when I charge the phone it heats up. At first the the board heats up, especially the top-right portion (when you lay the phone on it's back) and then if charging is continued the whole phone including the screen turns hot.
I honestly cannot answer that question. Knowing it is water damaged, i can only assume that something of the board malfunctioned due to exposure.

Thank you, that's fair enough. But do you think if it is worth trying out a new battery or a new flex cable?

Does your phone charge at all? Or does it charge but doesn't last for very long? If it doesn't last long then replacing the battery is the way to go. I would think that is the reason the motherboard is heating up too because the battery is not fully taking in the power.

Yup. Left phone on charger overnight - woke up and the camera was flashing every 2 seconds. That's all it will do. Whether it's hooked up, unhooked. As long as the battery's in that's what it does. No rom changes in over 2 weeks. No damage of any sort.... no recovery or anything
Well you can probably do a warranty exchange.
I voided my warranty and your mum.
I had something similar with my nexus one. Except it wasnt the camera but the trackball... changing kernels around seem to help a bit but eventually i took it for water damage. Take the battery out and let it dry off for a day or two. You can also try to pry it open and have your hand at any corrosion if you find any. However i wouldnt recommend that unless you know what yer doing.

He said it was left on the charger, not fell in water.
I'd crap my pants if this happened to me.

I realize that but like i said i had the same experience and my phone didnt get noticably wet at any time could have been a single drop of water and corrosion takes a while to build up.
Still...
Im wondering if you used your original charger when this happend because i can personally say ive seen my atrix behaving strange when connected to some cheap random charger (touch screen not working for example). Didnt believe it could cause permenant damage though.

It was hooked up with a Blackberry charger, actually.
Still acts the same.
Check the charger to see if its power ratings are different than your otiginal one.
Also... does the device boot up in any way or is the screen simply black and the flash flickering no matter what?

Looking at it today, I noticed that the charger port (or inlet if you will) is very structurally loose. The voltage on the blackberry charger is about 3/5 that of the stock Atrix charger, if memory serves me - somebody at work switched out the chargers the day after I got the phone. It took a good 6 hours to charge...
ATT said that it would be full cost of phone, because it's personal damage.
I'm looking into the Mi-One.
EDIT: No, the screen will not even begin to come on. Camera flashing is the only indicator of any power. Used an external battery charger, and two different batteries.
The MI-One looks sweet!!!!

Moto will probably either fix it or send you another phone. I know people who bricked from trying to downgrade and they got another phone. I'm sure you could too. I would try that before you buy another phone.
ETA: Now that I think about it not being able to put the rom back to stock would probably be an issue if they can get it to turn on but if they can't they might replace it.

I also think you should bring it up with motorola. Waking up to find your phone bricked is hardly what id call personal damage. You also shouldn't bring up the charger issue. And as for the usb port i'd say it would take too much effort to discern the connection with that and the phone acting as it is, and im sure they would rather just send a replacement unit.
A usb port malfunctioning is hardly an account for personal damage. The usual case is they simply stop working, but definitely not brick your entire phone.

Im no longer able to recharge my A500. Last charge was two days ago and now the battery is dead and it wont charge. Should be no problem with the charger or cord as far I can see. Any ideas? Anyone had the same problem?
Thanks,

Could be 2 things.
1. Charger is fubarred
2. Battery is toasted
Charger you can check with a multi-meter.
Technically, if your tab isn't under warranty, you can find instructions and pop the back cover off and actually change the battery (if you can find a replacement)
How about giving it a good hard smack on the back as an attitude adjustment?
Did you wiggle the plug when it's connected? (while watching the on/off switch)
As a last ditch effort, put the tab in the freezer for 30 minutes. Freezing cold does wonders for electronic contact points. An old trick for dead hard drives, along with the good 'ol fashioned smack.

Thanks. Just picked up a multi -meter thing. Its under warranty (by law here in Sweden) so no problems there. Ill try the smack and freezer as well. Hopefully it'll start again and I wont have to send it away.
Thanks again.

The center conductor on the tablet could have broken loose from the PCB. I here it's a common problem with the Iconia.

Yeah, I thought about that also awhile ago (hence the wiggle jiggle and watching the light) Also hear if you're not careful, the jack itself can get pretty loose, losing contact. It doesn't appear to be the strongest of things, but, one just has to be a little careful I guess.
I was charging my N4 by USB, plugging it into my wall outlet. It had already risen for 3% to 11% when suddenly, it stopped charging. I tried to plug and replug everything and used a different outlet, but I got no positive results. Then, I found that if I bent up the USB cable, the phone would start charging. Eventually, this became an infeasible solution, and now, my N4 has completely shut off. Upon further inspection, the USB port smells like something burning. What's going on? I'm not sure if this is caused by a faulty port of if there was some water damage. Some water flailed on the top of the phone lightly earlier but I'm not sure if some dripped into the port. Earlier today, I was having issues with the connection to charge but a simple unplug and replug fixed everything.
I'm not sure if all these events are coincidences or if one of them is the reason behind why it isn't charging now. Why does the port smell like it's burning? How do I get it to charge again?
EDIT: Not sure if it's the port or the cable that burned out.
EDIT 2: I just go a single red flash. What does this mean!?!?!?

setting aside the burning smell or water that dripped on the phone, have you tried other cable? i also experienced the same issue in charging. it turns out, the cable that came with the box was already faulty, after 4-5 months.
also double check if the usb port is really burned or something. might as well send it to a service center, either in warranty or not, just to be safe

My S4 just randomly stopped charging without being dropped, nothing spilled on it, no dust, dirt, or anything inside the port, and the port isn't loose. I've tested this with multiple chargers including a brand new Samsung one, I tried a factory reset and nothing works. I am just stumped.

You could try a little electronics cleaner in port even though it looks clean. Or maybe hardware. Did you pull battery and reboot.

Do you happen to know how Samsung is with warranty repair? Last time I used a manufacturer's warranty it was Motorola and it was hell. The phone is unlocked and has no signs of damage at all. I just don't want to send the phone in and waste a couple of weeks for them to tell me they can't do anything.
I've had them repair phones before. It was pretty quick. About 2 weeks door to door. However, depending on the issue you may not get YOUR device back. It might be a replacement.
It will certainly be updated to the newest firmware also.

Do you try to reconnect the Charging port flex cable?
If you make sure your battery and charge cable are in good condition, you can try to replace a new charging port flex cable.
If it still dose not work, the charge ic in the motherboard may be broken.
Has anyone had this before?
My phone burned through the cable I received with it.
http://imgur.com/ZLXNU8E
I tried charging it today, but the charging light didn't turn on. Didn't think much of it, but when I removed it from the charger after 10 minutes, I smelled burned plastic. And part of the cable got stuck in the phone. Had to pry it out with pliers.
Phone doesn't charge anymore, but it still works.
Really glad I noticed it in time, otherwise I could have had a fire on my hands... Was really hot
Sucks pretty hard to be without a phone for the time now.

Yes. I have heard of this.
And it scares the h*ll out of me!
I'm not a fan of fast charging due to this issue. I've seen it happen on other devices as well. Batteries are not meant to charge at such rates. I'd rather have a slower charge personally
This is why whenever I charge my phone, I keep the AC/Cooler/fan on of that room, keeps the phone temp low and helps in faster charging.
Whut? This is actually very concerning....is this a usb type c problem you think? Or does this happen with other phones too?
You should report this to LG
This needs more media attention. I don't think anyone has zeroed in on what's causing it yet. This could happen to all of us for all I know.
Need a response from Google.

Speaking generally, this almost always has happened, for years, to people who pull the cord by the wire, not by the plug. My wife is terrible about this and she goes through 3-4 cords to my one.
Anyway, that may not fully explajn this problem, bug it'll sure makd it more likely.
Well. I just googled and I found this article. My nexus 5x just burned yesterday and the worst was that everything was wood, even the floors. It almost started a fire at my home yesterday and I am mad because of that.
There is a picture I attached and I'm returning it tomorrow because I had it for almost 3 weeks now.
