Have you stuck with Kit Kat? - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have tried asking this before but I didn't get much of a response.
1) Have you gone back to Kit Kat after trying Lollipop for a while?
2) If yes, what is your goto ROM and/or debloat?
I've always been one for sticking with older OSes. Windows 95 skipped 98, 2000 pro for a long time and now windows 7.
Thanks!

[Q] Is the NEXUS 10 TOOLKIT V1.3.0 working?

Hello. Just received my Nexus 10 and really want to root, although pretty scared in case of bricking my device. Can anyone tell me if the current version of the [NEXUS 10 TOOLKIT V1.3.0] is working FULLY? I see posts on the actual thread containing the toolkit that peoples devices wont boot fully, but also people saying their thanks as it has worked for them. I cannot post in that thread due to having no post count.
Also, when I open up the Toolkit it asks me what build I am using, which is 4.2.1, but the only build displayed is 4.2.0 (not my build), so how do I get around this and tell the toolkit my build is 4.2.1.
Thanks
It got me into a boot loop after unlocking the device, had to go into the custom recovery to fix it. Make sure you read the instructions given by the developer on the first page before using the tool kit. Same with choosing the build, check about phone in settings and then see what build you have before chosing your os.

Hey thanks for the info, well I was about to use it but like I said after opening the toolkit and having my device connected it only displayed the build 4.2.0 but my build is 4.2.1, is the toolkit only available for 4.2.0 or how do I select my build (4.2.1) , thanks

I personally used this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2025268
Was fast and painless. So far working great.

I did take a look at that but what are the requirements to use it? As it doesn't say on the thread. My nexus is fully stock apart from the 4.2.1 update. Thanks again for the reply
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk 2
Just select the 4.2.0 build even though you have 4.2.1. It worked great for me. It says somewhere in the post that you can use the 4.2.0 for 4.2.x builds.

Oh well I guess il try it then. So for you it was as simple as following the instructions on the toolkit? I'm extremely paranoid of bricking my device
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk 2
That is the toolkit I used and it worked fine. I felt comfortable with it because it is the same guy I used the toolkit from on my Galaxy Nexus. I didnt read any instructions since I already know how to use it and had no problems. I wasnt even aware of any "special requirements"
Hmmm I may be wrong but I thought the boot loader needed unlocking for that one ?

I used the toolkit on my nexus 10 after i upgraded it to 4.2.1 Just selected the do everything option and followed the directions. Worked like a champ.
Thanks for all the replies, I decided to go ahead and root, and all went fine. One more question, when a system update becomes available, through my notifications can I go ahead and do it?

I haven't done it yet because there hasn't been an update since I rooted but there is an app called OTA Rootkeeper that is supposed to allow you to take ota updated and maintain root.

Not sure how it works on Nexus 10 as I am yet to receive mine but on Nexus 7 even after rooting the device using Mskip's toolkit I am able to receive OTA updates without any issues.
Being the same developer and similar toolkit I think it should work.

To receive OTA updates you must have a locked bootloader and stock recovery. Doesnt matter what much though since if you want an update to whatever OTA comes out, someone ALWAYS compiles a 100% stock rooted ROM based on whatever latest OTA has just come out. Usually it is on the very same day as the official OTA too
But I still recommend a custom ROM. Craig's AOSP+ is basically the stock ROM but comes with many fixes for things broken on just running stock, and increases compatibility with external devices.
I could use some help on how to utilize my donation code. I have scanned the thread very well and cannot find out how to use the code after donation. I am a non posting donator to many forums and threads. Successfully modified dozens of devices. This is the first one I am to excited to work the bugs out myself. I have the 4.2.1 update, got it unlocked but, cannot get any further. The tool just keeps stopping. It obviously works, I am just missing something that is probably really simple. I would also like the functionality of the donator options. Any help would be greatly appreciated.........................Just found donator portal. Still stuck after unlocked bootloader.
I myself cannot find the donor portal, I am going crazy trying to find it. Can someone please tell me where it is? This is my first time rooting a device. Thanks
Mike
Toolkit works well. I got to eager and forgot to terminate ADB. I opened my task mgr. on windows and felt like a real boob, had like 20 cmd windows open. Still having a heck of a time accessing donator tools. Put in code from main menu #26. But, no updates to the kit. Nexus 10 + x-mas = no sleep.

The biggest difference is that the 5.0 has a Dual Core CPU, whereas the 5.0S has a Quad Core CPU.
Far as I know the GPU is the same though, both have 1GB RAM/4GB ROM, can take up to 32GB SDHC cards, and are not compatible with any version of android newer than 4.1.2.
I managed to get CWM-R v6.0.3.2 (I believe, if memory serves right, but if not that's still a close guess) flashed on my BLU Studio 5.0S with AIO Flasher -- was actually a PITA for me, as I'm on Ubuntu 13.10 natively, so had to get a Winblow machine up and running just to do the AIO Flashing (wouldn't run correctly through Wine, Crossover, etc.). ZIPed up the exact versions I used of both AIO Flasher and CWM -- although I'm on a BLU Studio 5.0S, I imagine this should work for you as well.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/6e4ahqz719qn8vl/Blu Studio 5.0S.zip
Once you flash it (in case you're not aware), it seems Vol Up + Power to boot goes to Fastboot (green screen) -- this is where you need to be to flash with AIO. If you continue to hold the keys at Fastboot, you'll get to Recovery (red screen), and it'll then load up the recovery.img (be it the default stock one or CWM).
If either of you could be kind enough to Nandroid your stock rom before you flash a different one, I'd greatly appreciate a copy -- I had made one, but seem to have lost it amongst the piles of ROMs I've gone through for the device, as well as my copies I've edited (I'm a tinkerer/hacker Am actually trying to make my own ROM as well being everyone in my family has a 5.0S now, so that'd be nice so that I can just keep them all updated without worrying about them being on whatever they want to be on, especially since none of them know any Linux and therefore would likely do more harm than good XD).
The phone was too limted and seemed cripled to me due to it's lack of rom space. I returned it and got my money back thank goodness. I'm now in the process of trying to find a budget friendly phone that'll give me LTE on Tmobile. Anyone has any ideas or input? Please PM me and let me know.

[Q] Softbrick, SM-9005, N9005VJUEND1 from Chile

I've softbricked my phone just following this guide over here: http://nasirtech.blogspot.com/2014/05/n9005vjuend1-android-442-kitkat.html
After following that, just after trying to root the phone bricked and would restart anymore. So far i have followed different guides like:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2627291
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2628435&page=8
But it seems to happen the same thing over and over. The flash just fails every time even if i flash only the pit, only the AP and so on. I've used odin 3.06 and 3.07 and the stock firmware that used to come with the phone (N9005VJUEND1), the phone is unlocked and is the one that has written 4G at the back.
The info behind the battery is:
Model: SM-N9005
FCC ID: A3LSMN9005
SSN: -N9005GSMH
And says that is made in korea. Also is a 32GB version.
What is important to mention is that i'm doing all of this in VMWare at a macbook. Don't know if this actually hurts the process but it shouldn't.
Does anybody has been through something similar?, please all help is needed

I will try with parallels.. if that doesn't work i will try with a windows pc.
Confirmed,
VMWare have issues with samsung driver, if you have a mac you can flash your international n9005 with parallels. DON'T USE VMWARE.
Ok, flashed successfully, but now the phone has no sound, the camera doesn't works and the dial panel doesn't work either. I'm trying to do a flash and then open it in recovery mode so i can do a full wipe. But even after doing the full wipe doesn't have any sound or camera. Any pointers with this?, i'm flashing it with aN9005VJUEND1_N9005UUBENC1_N9005VJUENC1 from Chile.
any help with this could be amazing. I've installed now CWM 6.0.4.7. With it i've installed bobcat 9.0 and same thing. Only a little faster. But still laggy, no sound, no camera and no dialer. Now i'm installing HAWKISH elite serie version N9005ZHUENE6. I will tell you later how i'm going with it.
---- edit ----
Nope, still the same, no sound. It's kind of desperating to still don't have nothing working. Please give me some pointers. Almost tryed everything.
New info, the 4g works, wifi works, is just the camera and the sound. Also it reboot's sometimes. Very anoying.
Finally i delivered it to the samsung service. It seems that i damaged the bootloader for what they are telling me and that's the reason why i had trouble with the keyboard, sound and dial.
So no more playing with the phone for now . Or use a windows to make the flashes. Any comments on this?
So, is working now??

[Q] JB 4.3, Kit Kat, 4.4, to Lollipop, HOW?

Hello Guys,
Any Help or Links to Related Threads will be much appreciated.
I have a Verizon NOTE 3, JB 4.3 SM-N900V MJE. I got it back around March 2014 I believe. I almost immediately Rooted it via Kingo. I do NOT have a Custom Recovery (although I would Love to install Safestrap) I also Froze the SDM app (updater app I believe) & Knox Notification app via Rom Toolbox.
Here is my Question, Since I still have Not upgraded to Kit Kat (although I want to via SexTape/Hashcode version) will I be able to Upgrade to Android L, Lollipop? Will I need to Upgrade to Kit Kat 1'st before Updating to Lollipop? I have been Real Nervous about taking the Plunge to Upgrade to Kit Kat (My old Razr got stuck in Boot Loop, Never got it out) but I want to have Android L at some point. If I Defrost the SDM & take the Verizon Update to Android L, I'm pretty sure I will lose Root, I basically want to know What do I have to do to get to Android L, Lollipop & keep Root with my Note 3 still running Rooted JB 4.3 at this time?

Android L is not an option right now and who knows what Big Red has in store for us once they release it. Knowing Verizon I'll have a new phone by the time it gets released for the Note 3. But if you want to go to KK see this post here....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55241731&postcount=2 and here....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2787627
Thanks for the Reply, I already have the Link saved in my Favs, I'm just to scared to take the Plunge for fear of a Boot Loop.
I know that Android L is not an Option YET, but I've read on other Android sites that it should be released late November. Even if that doesn't pan out I want to have a Plan in place or at least know How or What my Options are as to getting it. I'm starting to Wonder will it be Better to Not receive the OTA when it does come out & wait for the Wonderful Developers here to make their own Version with Root, because I'm guessing if I did take an update I would lose Root & it will be a while until someone achieves it through Lollipop.

It is ALWAYS a good idea to wait for the good guys (the developers) to get and trst any new release.
And just because Google says lollipop will be out in late Nov doesn't mean we'll ever get it on the VerizonNote 3.
Until both of the above mentioned are true, no sense planning on anything.
And if you're scared to go to KK I'm not sure why you wouldn't be even more afraid to go to L. Just saying.

Yeah that's kinda what I was thinking. As far as Verizon releasing Lollipop, I've been reading about Verizon Note 3's & Android L on several Android sites, Android Central, Android Authority, etc. I know that we probably wont get the update as soon as I've read. Verizon is usually the Last service provider to release the updates. I did do a lil more searching & now I'm reading that it may be April, May, or June for us Verizon Note 3 owners. As far as a Plan, what I mean is I want to at least know what I will need to do or what my Options are to get Android L when it does come out. Which is why I'm asking so early.
#1 Can you go from JB to Lollipop? or Do you have to upgrade to Kit Kat then go to Lollipop? Or does everyone just Not know right now because it hasn't been released yet?
Oh & Yes I am scared to Update to Kit Kat right now but I will do it. I am going to. I think I'm looking for some encouragement that nothing will go Wrong. LoL. I will do it though. Its just I've never actually flashed any ROMS or anything. I had a Razr I rooted & I rooted my Note 3 almost immediately but as you know that process is not that hard or complicated. Did you Flash your Note 3 to Kit Kat? If so, How was the process for you? Any kinks? Setbacks? Any OE on it?
I do have another question you may be able to answer now that I am on the subject. Should I do a FDR before Flashing to Kit Kat??? Will that make the process more likely to succeed? Also I installed the Xposed Framework a couple months ago, will that have any effect on Flashing the Kit Kat? Do I need to uninstall it before going to Kit Kat & if I do flash Kit Kat will I still have the Xposed Framework if I do Not uninstall it? Also Do you have a Link to just install SafeStrap? I want to go ahead & get it installed & play with it a little before flashing Kit Kat. I'm gonna search for a Thread on it now. Dont worry about posting a Link I will find something. If you could help me with those other questions I would really appreciate it. Thanks for your replies. I'm a Semi Newb wanting to further my knowledge on this. I love this stuff. lol Thanks a lot!

#1 no on knows at this point.
If you're going to restore to factory....then simply take the OTA to update to KitKat and then use Towel Root to root it.

I didn't say I was going to do a FDR, I'm asking if I did would it increase the odds of Nothing going wrong if I Flashed the ROOTED Kit Kat version that is on XDA. BUT I also didn't know it was Possible to Root Kit Kat. Back when I rooted my Note 3, It was Not possible to Root Kit Kat. NOW I'm curious, I thought if you do a FDR that you would NOT Lose Root? True or False? Because I'm thinking if I didn't lose Root, Did a FDR, accepted Verizon OTA TO Kit Kat, that Knox might would Trip. I don't know but I think it might. Do you know? The only other Negative to performing a FDR & accepting the OTA is I could Never go back to JB, & the SD card Problem Verizon Kit Kat was having but XDA version did Not have. Although they may have fixed that issue by now. I think it's just Best I dig back in there & do a lot more reading since I last did because so much could have changed since then. Thanks & Sorry for all the Questions. Again I said I'm a Newb

Hey, I've been thinking about what you said. The accept the Verizon OTA Update for Kit Kat, then Root with Towel Root. If I was to do that Right now & I'm Rooted would Knox Trip?
In order for me to do that, Would I have to UnROOT 1st?
If I do a FDR would I lose ROOT? I don't think I would but I'm not sure.
Accepting the Verizon Update & Rooting afterwards sounds easier than, Installing SafeStrap, & Flashing KIT KAT. I'm not sure if it would be, but it does sound easier.
Which is Better? Verizon Stock Kit Kat vs XDA Kit Kat version???
Thanks

Need help, not a Newb, but feel like one

Hey folks, I've been here (on XDA) a long time and used to be knee deep in understanding rooting and flashing ROMs, but it's literally been 4 years since I've been around, and I need to upgrade my current Note 3 (Verizon) to Android 5 (if Android 5 runs well on it) OR I need to simply root my Note 3 so I can flash a faster moving ROM.
It's been awhile, I looked at the stickies, and while I still understand the "language", I don't get the process.
Can anyone help me out and point me to only the tried and true methods of either upgrading to Android 5 (off Carrier, I have the phone on Cricket now) OR on how to root and flash a new ROM? (and which ROM is simply a good, fast, stable ROM)
Many thanks for any and all help!

Presuming you are on a pure stock Verion Note 3 (but using a Cricket SIM)... THEN you can go get the last OS/Firmware release for Verizon from sammobile.com (you have to be a member to download.. But membership is free). The release is OF1 and is Lollipop (Android 5.0)
You'll need Odin to Flash it from a PC.

You can just do stock firmware update. There is an unlock and root method on here. Root is easy just need a place and a program u get on here there are YouTube videos for unlocking bootloader and also a post here on how to do it on here
Awesome! Do you know if the battery drain issues was ever fixed?

With Stock... Yes, OB6 had issues, OF1 seemed to have fixed them. The firmware on sammobile.com is not an OTA, so you will/should wipe data first, then reload your apps. At the least.. Factory reset before you flash via Odin.
