24-bit TFT, I think. AMOLED isn't necessarily the bee's knees, even though people like to use it as a buzz word.
I don't really care if it is AMOLED or not, but I like to know what sensor is used in the screen. As far as I know, the droid/milestone had a dual touch screen, and from videos I've seen it looks much less responsive as e.g. the full 16 touch multitouch on the Samsung Galaxy S.
I'm aware that this is not an issue for many people, and I'm not yet sure how important it is for me. But there seem to be differences in the different sensor technologies used, and I would like to know where the droid x stands.
e.g. this article claims that the sensor in the galaxy has a "response time of 7 milliseconds which is 2-3 times faster than current multi-touch displays.", and that it can recognise up to 16 different touches.

It's an IPS LCD like the original Droid.

If it had amloed i wouldnt be getting it. I returned my incredible for this reason. Txt is blurry on amloled....i dont understand how people dont see its inferior.

I agree. I had an Incredible and the text was jagged. Not to mention AMOLED gets "burn-in" which means after a while the status bar will be permanently burned into the top of the screen. The colors are better, and the power draw is lower. Those are the only 2 advantages over LCD, ever where else they fall short.
The lagged text has something to do with how they make AMOLEDs. They use RGB like LCD for each pixel, but they only have 1 green per 2 pixels. So in effect its like the screen has less pixels over all.

AMOLED is a buzz word. LCD work better in the sun and the text is more crisp.
Burn in will not be an issue on any phone. It's just like a TV. If you had say, some sort of icon constantly open on the screen in the exact same location for many hours continuously alright. But on a phone you rarely have anything open without changing for >6 hours anyway. and burn-in requires more than 6 hours, it only happens after usually a year or two of a TV displaying something static like a network logo.
Colors are much richer, but a bit less accurate. This isn't as crucial since you're on a phone and not exactly going for insane color accuracy, and lcd screens in general aren't extraordinarily accurate (seem to be either overly red or blue, or "warm" and "cool")
AMOLED also uses a LOT less power, and I really doubt you're going to see a huge difference in screen legibility in the sun.

engadget has a nice comparison video, all look pretty bad except for maybe the SAMOLED and the iphone 4 is apparently alright. then again, if you literally just shield it a bit with your body (turn away from the sun) all screens are fairly readable. The sun sucks, and screens universally suck in sun compared to indoors.
Last point: AMOLED is really awesome at night. The blacks are indeed REALLY black. So far nothing but the OLED displays can reach that level (since it is 100% black, no light is actually emitted, giving it theoretically infinite contrast ratio).
No need for sour grapes, there are no 4.3 inch OLED phones that I know of in the US anyway, and if you want a large screen the droid x will deliver.
I'd be more concerned about multitouch sensors that amoled vs LCD, those will make or break a phone, I hope motorola invested in some sensors similar to the evo/incredible.

That's what I am worried about... I saw the video of the evo and incredible and the screen response issues.. it was pretty awful to say the least...

Is that IPS like iPhone 4's S-IPS? I know the resolutions are different but is the tech otherwise the same? I've compared my Incredible to the iPhone 4 and I really didn't see a significant difference in color quality.
Droid X has a TFT LCD screen...
Droid Incredible has an AMOLED & STFT LCD screen...
First Droid Inc have the AMOLED and newer releases has STFT... mixture of both...
Touch Screen Sensor
Not sure the exact manufacturer or model, but I found a good test of the touch sensor / multitouch for the Droid X.

Results look great. My last reservation is removed. By the way, there isn't a "hitch" like the guy says, it's the font and changing sides. That's why you don't see it in the second test.
Until we see Pixel Qi screens, it doesn't really matter. Pixel Qi is worlds better than any display available now, including the iPhone 4 and the Galaxy S. I'm hoping the rumored "display like you've never seen" comment from HTC is a smartphone with a Pixel Qi screen.

Edit: by the way, Pixel Qi screens can "turn off" but still display a grayscale image just like the e-ink technology on the Amazon Kindle. It's pure win. People are all excited about the 4G/LTE networks coming, but IMO, most people should be MORE excited for Pixel Qi displays in smartphones.

I've read on several sites about this phone and i'm planning to buy one but the problem is i'm confused whether this device is pumped up with a LCD, TFT capacitive or AMOLED screen? now some websites state that it has AMOLED tft capacitive screen. I would like to have some clarification about this. and some feedback would be appreciative about this device...
The first stock had AMOLED screens, now they are produced with TFT's you may be able to find an AMOLED one via ebay etc.
Many people will say there isn't much difference anyway.

Yes it's brighter etc but also the con being screen burn!
Anyway you will have to buy second hand or old stock for AMOLED

It's actually quite easy to find out if your Blade has the AMOLED or TFT screen.
Go to settings> About phone> Build number
If it ends in 05, it's an AMOLED. If it ends in 08, you've got yourself a LCD. (This is only true for grey devices.)

I hear the moto x 2014 compared to galaxy S5, the screen difference is pretty big.
One uses amoled and one uses super amoled. Hopefully the 2k resolution will help the brightness and vibrancy.
What do you guys think? I haven't held a moto x and S5 together but I absolutely love the S5 screen.

It's harder to push light through more pixels, so sure you can get a stronger backlight, but then you get more power consumption and heat.

Huh? You don't push light through pixels with amoled screens. Per pixel brightness is certainly not affected by resolution, perhaps only with LCD screens.

Amoled displays don't have backlights, the display itself is the source of light.

My mistake, completely forgot that part about AMOLED. Been using IPS screens since I had a Galaxy Nexus, and that screen was junk.. so I've been wanting to stick to IPS. My G3 is gorgeous, so I'm kinda scared to see the N6 with AMOLED.

Mura affects aren't really part of amoled. Oled screens it is like on my ps Vita

AMOLED is the screen technology. "Super AMOLED" is just Samsung's brand name for their own screens using AMOLED technology, not a separate technology. It remains to be seen what the Nexus 6 screen looks like when compared to Note 4.
Are you sure cause the S2 with Super AMOLED was significantly better than their regular AMOLED models like the GNEX.

I've not used AMOLED since my Galaxy Nexus, but it was horrendous. Banding visible all over the screen on grey or beige (light colored) screens.
Plus, it had burn in on the status bar that I could always see on full screen youtube videos etc. Was terrible.
I'm wondering have they improved the hardware technology since then or can I expect that again on the Nexus 6,

It is their marketing term, but does have some modifications

OMFG are people here really this clueless? Samsung calls ALL their AMOLED panels Super AMOLED. That includes the ones they sell to Motorola and Nokia. They are ALL made by Samsung. The reason why the Moto X 2014 doesn't look as good as the Galaxy S5 is because Samsung ALWAYS sells the last generation to their competitors and saves the latest generation for themselves. In other words what you see on the Moto X is the same tech as the Galaxy S4, not the S5. And for those dumb people who keep on saying higher resolution means lower brightness, this is only true for LCD since they use a backlight and it has to shine through each pixel, with more pixels decreasing the brightness overall. AMOLED is completely different in that each pixel is its own light source and when you pack them together, they will be brighter not dimmer, just like how your vanity mirror in your restroom will be brighter with three small 600 lumen bulbs near each other versus just one 900 lumen bulb.

Ah yes, now I remember those black spots too.. what exactly caused those and can we expect this on the N6?
Hopefully screen burn is a thing of the past, especially with the nav and status bars going transparent on the home screen.
If the display is PenTile, that will probably kill it for me right away. I can't stand the fuzziness that comes with that junky setup. I bought a Yoga 2 Pro and noticed it right away which is part of why I returned it. I also hate how AMOLED has a very blue/green hue to it.. guess we'll see how the N6 turns out.

For me both suck... cause of degradation of the organic led.. colors become toned... and burn in issue.. they are simply inadequate.. expecially at that price...
From what I recall Samsung makes all AMOLED displays so you should expect it to be great. Google wouldn't put a bad display on a flagship phone.

screen burn isn't a thing of the past.. beacause the technology il still the same.. organic led degradate with use.. losing brightness and uncalibrating all screen colors (this with homogeneous wear) but some elements like status bar icons and navbar buttons are always in the same position!! And they will burn in inevitably

First of all, there is no "regular" LCD screens. All LCDs use some type of screen technology, wether it's TN, IPS, PLS, VA or something else.
That beeing said, the Moto X Play does have a IPS LCD.

by regular i meant TN/tft etc. since those doesn't have great colours and viewing angles.
The Sony Xperia XZ2 has a crazy crisp display. Just kidding, this is automated text so who knows if this screen is any good. So, you be the judge! A higher rating indicates that it's extremely sharp and clear, and that you cannot see pixels with your naked eye.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Guys do you have problems with screen scrolling? I can see alot blur on screen when I scrool black tekst on white page. It makes me dizzy. Is it because poor pixel response time on that IPS panel? I had before Lenovo Zuk Z2 IPS and Lenovo Zuk Z2 Pro AMOLED and no problems on them at all. I have this on Oreo and Android P beta... This LCD seems to be terrible... also too much of white colours, looks like milk splash on glass. Any way to fix it? Colour calibration does not help on these both issues.

Sounds like a faulty panel. Didn't see anyone complain about the screen yet. Poor pixel response will cause other issues as well, especially with fast paced games, so i doubt thats your issue. Try find another XZ2 to compare with, maybe the demo unit from your local store.
It's a sharp panel. But it has subtle, if hardly noticeable differences vs top end Super AMOLED from Samsung (iPX and S9 series) if you put them side by side and scrutinize closely.
